Abstract:Dvorzhak et al. show that the age-related decline in the social playfulness of rats depends in part on glycinergic synaptic transmission in the periaqueductal gray (PAG), a structure whose neuronal activity is required for social play. Glycine stimulates social play through NMDA receptors potentiation, which increases neuronal activity in the PAG.
