Abstract:Background The rising prevalence estimates of multiple sclerosis (MS) globally underscore the imperative for up-to-date epidemiological data specific to the Netherlands. Methods Data from two Dutch healthcare databases (Nivel Primary Care Database and Vektis Database) comprising both general practices and hospital electronic health records in 2019 were combined to assess age- and sex-standardized MS prevalence and incidence estimates. Differences in prevalence estimates based on latitude and between primary versus secondary care records were examined. Results The age and sex-standardized prevalence estimate was 210.4 per 100,000 inhabitants. Incidence estimate of MS was 7.1 per 100,000 person-years within the year 2019. One-third of the MS cohort from primary care records was not documented in the hospital database over two consecutive years. Prevalence estimates were higher in northern areas versus southern areas (respectively 240.6 versus 208.3 per 100,000 inhabitants). Conclusion Aligning results from different global regions, prevalence estimates of MS in the Netherlands have increased significantly over the last decennia, while incidence estimates are stable. The discrepancy between MS records within the primary and secondary care setting could indicate that a substantial proportion of Dutch patients with MS are not under specialized neurological care.

Abstract:Background: High-quality epidemiologic data worldwide are needed to improve our understanding of disease risk, support health policy to meet the diverse needs of people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and support advocacy efforts. Objectives: The Atlas of MS is an open-source global compendium of data regarding the epidemiology of MS and the availability of resources for people with MS reported at country, regional and global levels. Methods: Country representatives reported epidemiologic data and their sources via survey between September 2019 and March 2020, covering prevalence and incidence in males, females and children, and age and MS type at diagnosis. Regional analyses and comparisons with 2013 data were conducted. Results: A total of 2.8 million people are estimated to live with MS worldwide (35.9 per 100,000 population). MS prevalence has increased in every world region since 2013 but gaps in prevalence estimates persist. The pooled incidence rate across 75 reporting countries is 2.1 per 100,000 persons/year, and the mean age of diagnosis is 32 years. Females are twice as likely to live with MS as males. Conclusions: The global prevalence of MS has risen since 2013, but good surveillance data is not universal. Action is needed by multiple stakeholders to close knowledge gaps.

Abstract:Background: The global rising prevalence and incidence of multiple sclerosis (MS) has been reported during the past decades. However, details regarding the evolution of MS burden have not been fully studied. This study aimed to investigate the global, regional, and national burden and temporal trends in MS incidence, deaths, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) from 1990 to 2019 using the age-period-cohort analysis. Methods: We performed a secondary comprehensive analysis of incidence, deaths, and DALYs of MS by calculating the estimated annual percentage change from 1990 to 2019 obtained from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019 study. The independent age, period, and birth cohort effects were evaluated by an age-period-cohort model. Results: In 2019, there were 59,345 incident MS cases and 22,439 MS deaths worldwide. The global number of incidences, deaths, and DALYs of MS followed an upward trend, whereas the age-standardized rates (ASR) slightly declined from 1990 to 2019. High socio-demographic index (SDI) regions had the highest ASR of incidences, deaths, and DALYs in 2019, while the rate of deaths and DALYs in medium SDI regions are the lowest. Six regions which include high-income North America, Western Europe, Australasia, Central Europe, and Eastern Europe had higher ASR of incidences, deaths, and DALYs than other regions in 2019. The age effect showed that the relative risks (RRs) of incidence and DALYs reached the peak at ages 30-39 and 50-59, respectively. The period effect showed that the RRs of deaths and DALYs increased with the period. The cohort effect showed that the later cohort has lower RRs of deaths and DALYs than the early cohort. Conclusion: The global cases of incidence, deaths, and DALYs of MS have all increased, whereas ASR has declined, with different trends in different regions. High SDI regions such as European countries have a substantial burden of MS. There are significant age effects for incidence, deaths, and DALYs of MS globally, and period effects and cohort effects for deaths and DALYs.
Prevalence and mortality of patients with multiple sclerosis in France in 2012: a study based on French health insurance data

Abstract:Data on the prevalence of multiple sclerosis (MS) in France are scarce. National and regional updated estimates are needed to better plan health policies. In this nationwide study, we provided estimates of the prevalence of MS in France in 2012 and mortality rate in 2013. MS cases were identified in the French national health insurance database (SNIIRAM-PMSI) using reimbursement data for disease-modifying treatment, long-term disease status for MS, disability pension for MS, and hospitalisation for MS (MS ICD-10 code: G35). We identified 99,123 MS cases, corresponding to an overall crude prevalence rate of 151.2 per 100,000 inhabitants [95% confidence interval (CI) 150.3-152.2]: 210.0 per 100,000 in women (95% CI 208.4-211.5) and 88.7 per 100,000 in men (95% CI 87.6-89.7). The overall prevalence rate was 155.6 per 100,000 inhabitants (95% CI 154.7-156.6) after standardization on the 2013-European population. We observed a prevalence gradient with a higher prevalence (190-200 per 100,000) in North-Eastern France and a lower prevalence in Southern and Western France (126-140). The crude mortality rate in 2013 was 13.7 per 1,000 MS cases (11.4 in women and 20.3 in men). The standardized mortality ratio was 2.56 (95% CI 2.41-2.72). Our results revise upwards the estimation of MS prevalence in France and confirm the excess mortality of MS patients compared to the general population.

Abstract:Background and purpose Pediatric‐onset multiple sclerosis (PoMS) is associated with high health care use. To plan resource allocation for this patient group, knowledge of the incidence rate and prevalence is important. However, such studies are scarce, few are population‐based, and the methodology varies widely. We aimed to address this knowledge gap by performing a nationwide study of the incidence rate and prevalence of PoMS in Sweden, an area of high multiple sclerosis (MS) incidence and prevalence. Methods MS cases were identified by linking two nationwide registers, the National Patient Register and the Swedish MS Registry. MS cases having their first central nervous system demyelinating event or MS clinical onset before age 18 years were classified as pediatric onset. Incidence rate and prevalence were estimated annually over the study period (2006–2016) for the total population and stratified by sex and age group (<12, 12–15, and 16–17 years). Temporal trends and ratios between sexes and age groups were estimated. Results We identified 238 incident cases from 2006 to 2016, corresponding to an overall crude incidence rate of 1.12 per 100,000 person‐years and an overall crude prevalence of 2.82 per 100,000 population. There was a higher incidence rate among females and the highest age category. The overall incidence rate and prevalence estimates remained stable during the study period. Conclusions Sweden exhibits a consistently high incidence rate and prevalence of PoMS that has remained stable over time. This knowledge serves as a tool to aid in planning resource allocation and health services for this patient population.

Contemporary study of multiple sclerosis disability in South East Wales

Abstract:Background: A contemporary understanding of disability evolution in multiple sclerosis (MS) is an essential tool for individual disease management and planning of interventional studies. We have used prospectively collected longitudinal data to analyse disability progression and variation in a British MS cohort. Methods: Cox proportional hazards regression was used to estimate hazard of Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) 4.0 and 6.0. A continuous Markov model was used to estimate transitional probabilities for individual EDSS scores. Models were adjusted for age at MS onset, sex and disease-modifying treatments (DMTs) exposure. Results: 2135 patients were included (1487 (70%) female, 1922 (89%) relapsing onset). 865 (41%) had used DMTs. Median time to EDSS 4.0 and 6.0 was 18.2 years (95% CI 16.3 to 20.2) and 22.1 years (95% CI 20.5 to 24.5). In the Markov model, the median time spent at EDSS scores of <6 (0.40-0.98 year) was shorter than the time spent at EDSS scores of ≥6 (0.87-4.11 year). Hazard of change in EDSS was greatest at EDSS scores <6 (HR for increasing EDSS: 1.02-1.33; decreasing EDSS: 0.34-1.27) compared with EDSS scores ≥6 (HR for increasing EDSS: 0.08-0.61; decreasing EDSS: 0.18-0.54). Conclusions: These data provide a detailed contemporary model of disability outcomes in a representative population-based MS cohort. They support a trend of increasing time to disability milestones compared with historical reference populations, and document disability variation with the use of transitional matrices. In addition, they provide essential information for patient counselling, clinical trial design, service planning and offer a comparative baseline for assessment of therapeutic interventions.

Abstract:Abstract Information on the population-based incidence of psoriasis vulgaris was limited. This study was to provide a comprehensive understanding of the age-specific and sex-specific incidence of psoriasis vulgaris in Germany. The data were obtained in the context of a morbidity-based risk adjustment by statutory health insurance companies in Germany, comprising information regarding 65 million population. Psoriasis vulgaris diagnoses were made and coded according to the 10th edition of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems. Age-specific and sex-specific incidences were calculated using data from 2009 to 2011. There was a rise in the age- and sex-specific incidences of psoriasis vulgaris through midlife, reaching a peak at the age of 60 and subsequently declining for both genders. The peak incidence for men, at 130 cases per 100,000 person-years, slightly exceeded the peak incidence for women of 117 per 100,000 person-years. An increase in the overall incidence rate can also be observed over the course of the three-year period covered by the data. Considerable variations in the age- and sex-specific incidences of psoriasis vulgaris can be seen across the lifespan. Nevertheless, the overall age-standardized incidence for the German population was low compared to other European countries.

Abstract:Objectives: In 2002, the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence concluded that the multiple sclerosis (MS) disease modifying therapies; interferon-beta and glatiramer acetate, were not cost effective over the short term but recognised that reducing disability over the longer term might dramatically improve the cost effectiveness. The UK Risk-sharing Scheme (RSS) was established to ensure cost-effective provision by prospectively collecting disability-related data from UK-treated patients with MS and comparing findings to a natural history (untreated) cohort. However, deficiencies were found in the originally selected untreated cohort and the resulting analytical approach. This study aims to identify a more suitable natural history cohort and to develop a robust analytical approach using the new cohort.Design: The Scientific Advisory Group, recommended the British Columbia Multiple Sclerosis (BCMS) database, Canada, as providing a more suitable natural history comparator cohort. Transition probabilities were derived and different Markov models (discrete and continuous) with and without baseline covariates were applied.Setting: MS clinics in Canada and the UK.Participants: From the BCMS database, 898 'untreated' patients with MS considered eligible for drug treatment based on the UK's Association of British Neurologists criteria.Outcome measure: The predicted Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) score was collected and assessed for goodness of fit when compared with actual outcome.Results: The BCMS untreated cohort contributed 7335 EDSS scores over a median 6.4 years (6357 EDSS 'transitions' recorded at consecutive visits) during the period 1980-1995. A continuous Markov model with 'onset age' as a binary covariate was deemed the most suitable model for future RSS analysis.Conclusions: A new untreated MS cohort from British Columbia has been selected and will be modelled using a continuous Markov model with onset age as a baseline covariate. This approach will now be applied to the treated UK RSS MS cohort for future price adjustment calculations.
Persons with multiple sclerosis older than 55 years: an analysis from the German MS registry

Abstract:Background Persons with MS (PwMS) ≥ 55 years are underrepresented in therapy studies leading to a lack of evidence. Objective and methods To study the subgroup of PwMS ≥ 55 years in the German MS registry in comparison with PwMS < 55 years. Endpoints of interest were the grade of disability, leading symptoms, clinical and magnetic resonance imaging activity, and use of disease modifying therapy. Results At the time of analysis, data from 40,428 PwMS were available for analysis. In PwMS aged ≥ 65 and PwMS aged ≥ 55 to 64 years, compared with PwMS aged < 55 years, the mean Expanded Disability Status Scale Scores were higher (5.3, 4.2 and 2.7, respectively), while the proportion of individuals with current use of disease modifying therapy was lower (42.6%, 60.9% and 76.7%, respectively). The older patient groups were more likely to be labeled with progressive MS and the frequency of occupational invalidity was high (38.8% in PwMS aged ≥ 55 to 64 years). Gait disorder, fatigue, bladder dysfunction, and spasticity were among the leading symptoms in PwMS aged ≥ 55 years. Conclusion PwMS ≥ 55 years have a high degree of disability, but a large proportion do not receive disease modifying therapy, exposing an unmet need.

Epidemiology of multiple sclerosis in the Campania Region (Italy): Derivation and validation of an algorithm to calculate the 2015-2020 incidence

Abstract:Objective: We aim to validate an algorithm based on routinely-collected healthcare data to detect incidence of multiple sclerosis (MS) in the Campania Region (South Italy) and to explore its spatial and temporal variations. Methods: We included individuals resident in the Campania Region who had at least one MS record in administrative datasets (drug prescriptions, hospital discharge, outpatients), from 2015 to 2020. We merged administrative to the clinical datasets to ascertain the actual date of diagnosis, and validated the minimum interval from our study baseline (Jan 1, 2015) to first MS records in administrative datasets to detect incident cases. We used Bayesian approach to explore geographical distribution, also including deprivation index as a covariate in the estimation model. We used the capture-recapture method to estimate the proportion of undetected cases. Results: The best performance was achieved by the 12-month interval algorithm, detecting 2,150 incident MS cases, with 74.4% sensitivity (95%CI = 64.1%, 85.9%) and 95.3% specificity (95%CI = 90.7%, 99.8%). The cumulative incidence was 36.68 (95%CI = 35.15, 38.26) per 100,000 from 2016 to 2020. The mean annual incidence was 7.34 (95%CI = 7.03, 7.65) per 100,000 people-year. The geographical distribution of MS relative risk shows a decreasing east-west incidence gradient. The number of expected MS cases was 11% higher than the detected cases. Conclusions: We validated a case-finding algorithm based on administrative data to estimate MS incidence, and its spatial/temporal variations. This algorithm provides up-to-date estimates of MS incidence, and will be used in future studies to evaluate changes in MS incidence in relation to different risk factors.

Abstract:Objectives: To model multiple sclerosis (MS) disease progression and compare disease trajectories by sex, age of onset, and year of diagnosis. Study Design and settings: Longitudinal EDSS scores were collected since 1985 for relapse-onset MS patients at MS clinics in South Wales and modelled using a multilevel model (MLM). The MLM adjusted for baseline covariates (sex, age of onset, year of diagnosis, and disease modifying treatments (DMTs)), and included interactions between baseline covariates and time variables. Results: The optimal model was truncated at 30 years after disease onset and excluded EDSS recorded within 3 months of relapse. As expected, older age of onset was associated with faster disease progression at 15 years (effect size (ES): 0.75; CI: 0.63, 0.86; P: <0.001) and female sex progressed more slowly at 15 years (ES: -0.43; CI: -0.68, -0.18; P: 2011) progressed more slowly than those diagnosed historically (<2006); (ES: -0.46; CI: -0.75, -0.16; P: 0.006) and (ES: -0.95; CI: -1.20, -0.70; P: <0.001), respectively. Conclusion: We present a novel model of MS outcomes, accounting for the nonlinear trajectory of MS and effects of baseline covariates, validating well-known risk factors (sex and age of onset) associated with disease progression. Also, patients diagnosed more recently progressed more slowly than those diagnosed historically.

Incidence and prevalence of paediatric-onset multiple sclerosis in two Canadian provinces: a population-based study representing over half of Canada's population

Abstract:Background: Population-based studies estimating the epidemiology of paediatric-onset multiple sclerosis (PoMS) are scarce. Methods: We accessed population-based health administrative data from two provinces in Canada, Ontario and British Columbia (BC). Individuals with PoMS were identified via a validated case definition. The index date ('MS onset') was the first demyelinating or MS specific claim recorded ≤18 years of age. We estimated the age-standardised annual incidence and prevalence of PoMS, and 95% CIs between 2003 and 2019. We used negative binomial regression models to assess the temporal changes in the annual crude incidence and prevalence of PoMS, and the ratios comparing sex groups. Results: From 2003 to 2019, a total of 148 incident PoMS cases were identified in BC, and 672 in Ontario. The age-standardised annual incidence of PoMS was stable in both provinces, averaging 0.95 (95% CI 0.79 to 1.13) in BC and 0.98 (95%CI 0.84 to 1.12) in Ontario per 100 000 person-years. The incidence ratio by sex (female vs male) was also stable over the study period, averaging 1.5:1 (95% CI 1.06 to 2.08, BC) and 2.0:1 (95% CI 1.61 to 2.59, Ontario). The age-standardised prevalence per 100 000 people rose from 4.75 (2003) to 5.52 (2019) in BC and from 2.93 (2003) to 4.07 (2019) in Ontario, and the increase was statistically significant in Ontario (p=0.002). There were more female prevalent PoMS cases than males in both provinces. Conclusions: Canada has one of the highest rates of PoMS globally, and the prevalence, but not incidence, has increased over time. Allocation of resources to support the growing youth population with MS should be a priority.

Abstract:We performed a cross-sectional, “bottom-up” observational study of resource use, costs, and quality of life in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) in Germany. Six centers participated in the study. Patients were asked to complete a questionnaire, and a total of 737 patients returned it (response rate 66%). The questionnaire provided information on all resource consumption, medical, and nonmedical, work absence, informal care related to their MS, and quality of life (EuroQol). Simultaneously, medical charts were also abstracted for a subsample of 202 patients for comparison between answers in the questionnaires and registered data. Levels of disability were assessed using the Expanded Disability Status Scale. The mean age of the cohort was 41.9±14.1 years (disease onset 33.4), mean EDSS score 4.4 (range 1.0–9.5), and mean utility measured by EQ-5D 0.552±0.331). Mean total cost per patient and year was 65,400 DM, adjusted for use of interferons, which was higher in this sample than the current average use in Germany. When this cost is extrapolated to an estimated patient population of 120,000, total costs to society are estimated at 7.85 billion DM. Direct costs represented 57.5%, informal care accounted for 12.1% and indirect costs amounted to 42.5%. Public payers pay for an estimated 24,800 DM per patient or 38% of total costs. All types of costs (direct, informal care, indirect) increased with increasing disability, while utilities decreased.
INCIDENCE OF MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS IN URUGUAY. A PROSPECTIVE POPULATION-BASED STUDY

Abstract:Background The worldwide incidence of multiple sclerosis (MS) is estimated at 0.5-10 cases per 100,000 person-years and is probably increasing. In 2014, a previous study estimated the incidence of multiple sclerosis in Uruguay at 1.2 cases per 100.000 person-years. Objectives We conducted an observational, prospective, population-based study to determine MS incidence from diagnosis in Uruguay. Methods The population studied included people older than 18 years of age, who were living in Uruguay between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2021. The diagnosis was based on 2017 McDonald criteria. Multiple data sources were employed including neurologists, magnetic resonance imaging centers, laboratories performing oligoclonal band testing, neurophysiology laboratories, neurorehabilitation centers, the institution Fondo Nacional de Recursos, and the MS Patients’ Association of Uruguay (EMUR). The capture-recapture method was used to estimate incidence. Results 155 new MS cases were confirmed after review. The median age was 35 (range 18-62). Thirteen patients (8.38%) were diagnosed with late onset MS. The crude incidence rate was 2.89 cases per 100,000 person-years, 3.95 among female and 1.72 among male patients. The incidence rate estimated using the capture-recapture method was 3.18 (95% CI 3.02-3.34). Conclusions According to the Atlas of MS, Uruguay has a low incidence rate (2.0-3.99), even though it is one of the highest in Latin America. Our country aligns with the global trend of increasing incidence. Age and sex distribution were similar to other studies, with a high incidence of patients with late onset multiple sclerosis. The capture-recapture method confirms the exhaustivity of our investigation.

Abstract:Background Identification of multiple sclerosis (MS) cases in routine healthcare data repositories remains challenging. MS can have a protracted diagnostic process and is rarely identified as a primary reason for admission to the hospital. Difficulties in identification are compounded in systems that do not include insurance or payer information concerning drug treatments or non-notifiable disease. Aim To develop an algorithm to reliably identify MS cases within a national health data bank. Method Retrospective analysis of the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) databank was used to identify MS cases using a novel algorithm. Sensitivity and specificity were tested using two existing independent MS datasets, one clinically validated and population-based and a second from a self-registered MS national registry. Results From 4 757 428 records, the algorithm identified 6194 living cases of MS within Wales on 31 December 2020 (prevalence 221.65 (95% CI 216.17 to 227.24) per 100 000). Case-finding sensitivity and specificity were 96.8% and 99.9% for the clinically validated population-based cohort and sensitivity was 96.7% for the self-declared registry population. Discussion The algorithm successfully identified MS cases within the SAIL databank with high sensitivity and specificity, verified by two independent populations and has important utility in large-scale epidemiological studies of MS.

Abstract:Background and Objectives Accurate diagnosis of secondary progression in multiple sclerosis (MS) remains a challenge since standardized criteria are missing. In 2016, the MSBase registry presented an algorithm that enabled the diagnosis of secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) more than three years earlier compared to diagnosis by neurologists. This work aimed to test whether this approach is equally effective in a real-world cohort of MS patients. Methods This longitudinal retrospective study analyzed clinical data of outpatients with MS recorded until October 2020 in the NeuroTransData registry, a Germany-wide network of 153 certified neurologists. Patient data had been captured in time during clinical visits employing a defined standardized clinical data set in the webbased NeuroTransData patient management platform DESTINY®. The time between the diagnosis of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) to SPMS onset was compared with one determined using MSBase criteria (MSBC). Group 1 consisted of patients diagnosed with SPMS during the observation period, whereas group 2 included RRMS patients who did not convert to SPMS during the observation period. Results Of 21,281 patients with MS included in our registry, 194 and 9506 patients were allocated to groups 1 and 2, respectively. 10.3% of patients with RRMS were diagnosed with SPMS simultaneously, whereas 60.8% were diagnosed with SPMS at least 3 months earlier by treating neurologists compared to the MSBC. In group 1, the MSBC showed a low sensitivity of 32.0% and an accuracy of 61.4% but a high specificity of 89.6%. In group 2, the MSBC identified 7.8% of patients with SPMS at some point during the observation time. Moreover, test-retest variability remains a challenge since 29.4% of patients diagnosed with SPMS by treating physicians did not fulfil the MSBC at a later point in time. Discussion These results are inconsistent with earlier SPMS diagnosis using the MSBC compared to clinical diagnosis by treating physicians. Therefore, there remains a need for an operational, structured, and validated approach to SPMS diagnosis.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Global variation in the incidence of multiple sclerosis (MS) is generally ascribed to differences in genetic and environmental risk factors. Here we investigate temporal trends in the incidence of MS and related disorders in British Columbia, Canada, from 1986 to 2010, focusing particularly on the Asian ethnic subpopulation.METHODS:A longitudinal database was screened to identify newly diagnosed cases of MS and related disorders, including neuromyelitis optica and clinically isolated syndromes. Age-standardized, sex-specific mean annual incidence was calculated for the Asian and non-Asian population of British Columbia for 5-year intervals from 1986 to 2010. Temporal changes and cohort differences in incidence rates and demographic characteristics were evaluated.RESULTS:During this period, the incidence of MS and related disorders in the non-Asian population remained relatively unchanged, from 10.41 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 9.87-10.97) to 9.91 (95% CI: 9.46-10.39) per 100,000 (p=0.167). In contrast, incidence in the Asian population doubled during the same period. This increase was driven by a precipitous rise in the incidence of MS in females from 0.71 (95% CI: 0.01-1.50) to 2.08 (95% CI: 1.43-2.91) per 100,000 (p=0.004), including both Canadian-born and immigrant Asians. The incidence of neuromyelitis optica did not change significantly during this period.CONCLUSIONS:The incidence of MS may be increasing among females in the Asian ethnic population of British Columbia.

Abstract:Background The gynaecological care of women with Multiple Sclerosis has received little attention; most reports focussed on pregnancy or sexuality. The objective of the present study was to evaluate if gynaecological follow-up for women of reproductive age with Multiple Sclerosis was adequate. Methods We performed a cross-sectional study on a large cohort of women with Multiple Sclerosis aged 18–40 years. All participants completed online questionnaires on general health status, gynaecological follow-up, and sexuality. Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) scores were extracted from medical records. The study was registered in clinicaltrials.gov with the number NCT05248438, and in the European database ID-RCB with the number 2021-A02912–39. Results Of the 192 patients who completed questionnaires, 157 (82.2%) reported gynaecological follow-up. Of the 155 patients on immunosuppressive treatments, only 31 (20%) underwent annual cervical screening. Of the 140 patients who met the French papillomavirus vaccination age recommendations, only 50 (35.7%) were vaccinated. A total of 128 (66.7%) patients used contraception. However, 16 (8.3%) patients reported unplanned pregnancies since the time of diagnosis. Conclusion Women with Multiple Sclerosis require more information on reproductive health and prevention of cancer. Better contraceptive advice would reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies and avoid foetal exposure to potentially teratogenic treatment.
