Abstract:We consider scenarios in which the 125 GeV resonance observed at the Large Hadron Collider is a Technicolor (TC) isosinglet scalar, the TC Higgs. By comparison with quantum chromodynamics, we argue that the couplings of the TC Higgs to the massive weak bosons are very close to the Standard Model (SM) values. The couplings to photons and gluons are model-dependent, but close to the SM values in several TC theories. The couplings of the TC Higgs to SM fermions are due to interactions beyond TC, such as Extended Technicolor: if such interactions successfully generate mass for the SM fermions, we argue that the couplings of the latter to the TC Higgs are also SM-like. We suggest a generic parameterization of the TC Higgs interactions with SM particles that accommodates a large class of TC models, and we perform a fit of these parameters to the Higgs LHC data. The fit reveals regions of parameter space where the form factors are of order unity and consistent with data at the 95% CL, in agreement with expectations in TC theories. This indicates that the discovered Higgs boson is consistent with the TC Higgs hypothesis for several TC theories.

Abstract:We study a model of scalars which includes both the SM Higgs and a scalar singlet as composites of heavy vector-like fermions. The vector-like fermions are bounded by the super-strong four-fermion interactions. The scalar singlet decays to SM vector bosons through loop of heavy vector-like fermions. We show that the surprisingly large production cross section of di-photon events at 750 GeV resonance and the odd decay properties can all be explained. This model serves as a good model for both SM Higgs and a scalar resonance at 750 GeV.

Abstract:We propose novel bosonic Technicolor models augmented by an <math>SU(2)R</math> gauge group and scalar doublet. Dynamical breaking of <math>SU(2)R</math> induced by technifermion condensation triggers <math>SU(2)L</math> breaking via a portal coupling. The scale of the new strong interactions is as high as that of composite Higgs models, and the vacuum stability challenge confronting ordinary bosonic Technicolor models is avoided. Thermal or asymmetric dark matter, whose stability is ensured by a <math>U(1)TB</math> technibaryon symmetry, can be realized. In the latter case, the correct relic density can be reproduced for a wide range of dark matter mass via leptogenesis.

Abstract:We show that the Standard Model (SM) Higgs Lagrangian is identical to the nonlinear realization of both the scale and chiral symmetries ("scale-invariant nonlinear sigma model"), and is further gauge equivalent to the "scale-invariant Hidden Local Symmetry (HLS) model" having possible new vector bosons as the HLS gauge bosons with scale-invariant mass: SM Higgs is nothing but a (pseudo) dilaton. The effective theory of the walking technicolor has precisely the same type of the scale-invariant nonlinear sigma model, thus further having the scale-invariant HLS gauge bosons (technirho's, etc.). The technidilaton mass M_\phi comes from the trace anomaly, which yields M_\phi^2 F_\phi^2 \simeq (2.5)^2 [(8/N_F)(4/N_C)] v^4 via PCDC, in the underlying walking SU(N_C) gauge theory with N_F massless flavors, where F_\phi is the decay constant and v=246 GeV. This implies F_\phi \simeq 5 v for M_\phi \simeq 125 GeV \simeq v/2 in the one-family walking technicolor model (N_F=8, N_C=4), in good agreement with the current LHC Higgs data. In the anti-Veneziano limit, N_C \rightarrow \infty, with N_C \alpha= fixed and N_F/N_C= fixed (\gg 1), we have a result: M_\phi^2/v^2\sim M_\phi^2/F_\phi^2 \sim 1/(N_F N_C) \rightarrow 0. Then the technidilaton is a naturally light composite Higgs out of the strongly coupled conformal dynamics, with its couplings even weaker than the SM Higgs.

Abstract:Abstract We show that the presence of a lightish scalar resonance, $$\sigma $$ σ , that mixes with the composite Goldstone–Higgs boson can relax the typical bounds found in this class of models. This mechanism, inbred in models with a walking dynamics above the condensation scale, allows for a low compositeness scale $$f \gtrsim 400$$ f ≳ 400 GeV, corresponding to a misalignment angle $$s_\theta \lesssim 0.6$$ s θ ≲ 0.6 , contrary to the common lore of a smaller angle. According to recent lattice results, the light $$\sigma $$ σ emerges thanks to a near-conformal phase above the condensation scale, consistent to the requirements from flavour physics. We study this effect in a general way, showing that it appears in all cosets emerging from an underlying gauge-fermion dynamics, in the presence of top partial compositeness. The scenario is testable both on the Lattice and experimentally, as it requires the presence of a second broad Higgs-like resonance, below 1 TeV, that can be revealed at the LHC in the ZZ and $$t\bar{t}$$ t t ̄ channels.

Mono-Photon Events with Light Higgs bosons in Secluded UMSSM

Abstract:We explore the Higgs boson implications of a class of supersymmetric models, which extends the MSSM gauge group by a $U(1)^{\prime}$ symmetry, which is broken at low energy scales by VEVs of four MSSM singlet fields. These singlets also form a secluded sector, and one of them is allowed to interact with the MSSM Higgs fields directly. After the $U(1)^{\prime}$ and electroweak symmetry breaking, the low scale spectra include six CP-even and 4 CP-odd Higgs bosons, whose masses can lie from 80 GeV to 2-3 TeV. We find that the heavy CP-even Higgs bosons can be probed through their decays into a pair of SM gauge bosons currently up to about $m_{h_{i}} \simeq 1.5$ TeV, while their probe can be extended to about $m_{h_{i}} \simeq 2.5$ TeV in near future. The most interesting feature of the low scale spectra in the class of Secluded $U(1)^{\prime}$ models is to include two light CP-odd Higgs bosons whose masses are bounded at about 250 GeV by the current collider and DM experiments, when the LSP neutralino is mostly formed by the MSSM singlets. These light CP-odd Higgs bosons should be formed by the MSSM singlet scalars to be consistent with the current constraints. Despite their singlet nature, they can be traced through their associated production with photons. In our work, we consider their productions at the collider experiments together with photons, and we realize that these light Higgs bosons can potentially be probed during Run-3 experiments of LHC when they are lighter than about 100 GeV. We also show that Run-4 and HL-LHC experiments will be able to probe these light scalars up to about 250 GeV.

Abstract:The presence of colored particles can affect both the single and the pair Higgs productions substantially. For scalar particles, this happens if their portal couplings to the Standard Model Higgs are large and their masses are not too high. In the present work these processes are studied in the case of several leptoquarks which may appear in many beyond Standard Model theories. It is found that the constraints on the portal couplings from the single Higgs production and the decays to various channels measured by the LHC experiments still allow increased Higgs pair production rate. For the masses in the range from 180 GeV to 300 GeV, depending on the strength of such portal couplings, the Higgs pair production may reach an order to several hundred in magnitude larger rate than the Standard Model case for the 8 TeV run. Therefore, combined with the on going searches for leptoquarks by both the CMS and ATLAS, this is one of the possible scenarios to be probed directly by the current data. The current study demonstrates that if colored scalars modify scalar potentials through portal couplings, which has been studied for variety of motivations such as playing a potentially important role in electroweak phase transition, composite models or radiative neutrino masses, this fact may appear as the modified Higgs pair production.

96 GeV Scalar Boson in the 2HDM with U(1)_H Gauge Symmetry

Abstract:In this paper, we study two Higgs doublet models with gauged U(1)_H symmetry, motivated by the excesses around 96 GeV reported by the CMS collaboration in the searches for light resonances decaying to two photons and two \tau's. In this model, one Higgs doublet field is charged under the U(1)_H symmetry to avoid tree-level flavor changing neutral currents. The extra gauge symmetry requires extra chiral fermions, to satisfy the anomaly-free conditions. We analyze the signals of the light resonances, taking into account the contribution of the extra fermions, and discuss the consistency with the experimental results in this model.

Light states in real multi-Higgs models with spontaneous CP violation

Abstract:In models with extended scalar sectors consisting of multiple Higgs doublets that trigger spontaneous electroweak symmetry breaking, it might be expected that the abundance of dimensionful quadratic couplings in the scalar potential could allow for a regime where, apart from the would-be Goldstone bosons and a neutral Higgs-like state, all new scalars have masses much larger than the electroweak scale. In the case of models where CP invariance holds at the lagrangian level but is broken by the vacuum, we show that such a reasonable expectation does not hold. When perturbativity requirements are placed on the dimensionless quartic couplings, the spectrum of the new scalars includes one charged and two additional neutral states whose masses cannot be much larger than the electroweak scale.

Relatively Heavy Higgs Boson in More Generic Gauge Mediation

Abstract:We discuss gauge mediation models where the doublet messengers and Higgs doublets are allowed to mix through a “charged” coupling. The charged coupling replaces messenger parity as a means of suppressing flavor changing neutral currents without introducing any unwanted CP violation. As a result of this mixing between the Higgs doublets and the messengers, relatively large A-terms are generated at the messenger scale. These large A-terms produce a distinct weak scale mass spectrum. Particularly, we show that the lightest Higgs boson mass is enhanced and can be as heavy as 125 GeV for a gluino mass as light as 2 TeV. We also show that the stops are heavier than that predicted by conventional gauge mediation models. It is also shown that these models have a peculiar slepton mass spectrum.

Abstract:We study LHC Higgs signatures from topflavor seesaw realization of electroweak symmetry breaking with a minimal gauge extension SU(2) x SU(2) x U(1). This elegant renormalizable construction singles out top quark sector (instead of all other light fermions) to join the new SU(2) gauge force. It predicts extra vector-like spectator quarks (T, B), new gauge bosons (W', Z'), and a pair of neutral Higgs bosons (h, H). We demonstrate that for the lighter Higgs boson h of mass 125GeV, this model predicts modified Higgs signal rates in h --> \gamma\gamma, WW*, ZZ* channels via gluon fusions, in h --> tau tau mode via vector boson fusions, and in h --> bb mode via gauge boson associate productions. We perform a global fit for our theory by including both direct search data (LHC and Tevatron) and indirect precision constraints. We further analyze the LHC discovery potential for detecting the heavier Higgs state H.

Abstract:Grand-unified models with extra dimensions at the GUT scale will typically contain exotic states with Standard Model charges and GUT-scale masses. They can act as messengers for gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. If the number of messengers is sizeable, soft terms for the visible sector fields will be predominantly generated by gauge mediation, while gravity mediation can induce a small mu parameter. We illustrate this hybrid mediation pattern with two examples, in which the superpartner spectrum contains light and near-degenerate higgsinos with masses below 200 GeV. The typical masses of all other superpartners are much larger, from at least 500 GeV up to several TeV. The lightest superparticle is the gravitino, which may be the dominant component of dark matter.

Di-Higgs Signatures in Neutral Naturalness

Abstract:The Higgs boson was the last fundamental piece of the Standard Model to be experimentally confirmed. LHC is embarked in a quest to probe the possibility that this particle provides a portal to new physics. One front of this quest consists in measuring the interactions of the Higgs with itself and with other SM particles to a high precision. In a more exotic front, the LHC is searching for the possibility that a pair of Higgses (HH) is the evidence of a new resonance. Such resonances are predicted in models with extended Higgs sectors, extra dimensions, and in models with exotic bound states. In this paper we show how scalar quirks in Folded Supersymmetry can give rise to HH resonances. We point out a viable sector of the parameter space in which HH is the dominant decay channel for these {\it squirkonium} bound states. We found that future runs of the LHC could discover HH resonances in the range of 0.5 - 1.6 TeV under reasonable assumptions. Furthermore, for a given mass and width of the HH signal, the model predicts the branching ratio of the subsequent decay modes of the heavy resonance. Finding the extra decay modes in the predicted pattern can serve as a smoking gun to confirm the model.

Abstract:We propose a new model for producing a Higgs boson mass near 125 GeV within the MSSM. By coupling the MSSM Higgs boson to a set of strongly interacting fields, large corrections to the Higgs quartic coupling are induced. Although the Higgs doublets do not participate in the strong dynamics, they feel the effects of the strongly coupled sector via (semi)perturbative interactions. These same strong dynamics are also capable of generating the mu term. Additionally, this strong sector is in the conformal window, which drives the couplings to an infrared fixed point and naturally generates model parameters of the appropriate size.

Abstract:Particle physics models with more than one Higgs boson occur in many frameworks for physics beyond the standard model, including supersymmetry, technicolor, composite Higgs, and "little Higgs" models. If the Higgs sector contains couplings stronger than electroweak gauge couplings, there will be heavy Higgs particles that decay to lighter Higgs particles plus heavy particles such as $W$, $Z$, and $t$. This motivates searches for final states involving multiple $W$, $Z$, $t$, and $\bar{b}b$ pairs. A two Higgs doublet model with custodial symmetry is a useful simplified model to describe many of these signals. The model can be parameterized by the physical Higgs masses and the mixing angles $\al$ and $\be$, so discovery or exclusion in this parameter space has a straightforward physical interpretation. We illustrate this with a detailed analysis of the process $gg \to A$ followed by $A \to h Z$ and $h \to WW$. For $m_{A} \simeq 330\GeV$, $m_{h} \simeq 200\GeV$ we can get a $4.5\si$ signal with 1 fb${}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity at the Large Hadron Collider.

Type-II Seesaw Higgs triplet productions and decays at the LHC

Abstract:The Type-II Seesaw Model provides an attractive scenario to account for Majorana-neutrino masses. Its extended Higgs sector, if sufficiently light, can have a rich and distinctive phenomenology at the LHC while yielding automatically an essentially Standard-Model-Higgs-like state. Several phenomenological studies have been devoted to the scalar sector of this model, as well as experimental searches focusing mostly on the (doubly-)charged states. In this paper we present an exhaustive study of the main production and decay channels of all the non-standard scalar states originating from the $SU(2)_L$ doublet and a complex triplet of the model. We stick to scenarios where lepton-number-violating decays are suppressed, for which present experimental limits are still weak, highlighting theoretical parameter sensitivities that were not previously emphasized in the literature and the uncertainties they can induce for the experimental searches at the LHC. A comprehensive classification of the various cascade decays and corresponding Standard Model particle multiplicities is provided. As an illustration, a detailed prospective search study at the LHC with an ATLAS-like detector is carried out on some benchmark points, for charged, doubly-charged, and, for the first time, neutral state productions

Abstract:The minimal extension of the scalar sector of the standard model contains an additional real scalar field with no gauge quantum numbers. Such a field does not couple to the quarks and leptons directly but rather through its mixing with the standard model Higgs field. We examine the phenomenology of this model focusing on the region of parameter space where the new scalar particle is significantly lighter than the usual Higgs scalar and has small mixing with it. In this region of parameter space most of the properties of the additional scalar particle are independent of the details of the scalar potential. Furthermore the properties of the scalar that is mostly the standard model Higgs can be drastically modified since its dominant branching ratio may be to a pair of the new lighter scalars.

Abstract:Higgs pair production is studied in the extension of the Standard Model by color octet scalar and vector particles in TeV mass range for the LHC. The relevant parameters are their masses and portal couplings to the Higgs boson.The rate is enhanced considerably in some parts of the parameter space compared to the SM which are allowed by the latest measured bounds on the Higgs decay to $ZZ^*$. The model will be tested experimentally at the upcoming LHC run.
Two mass scales for the Higgs field?

Abstract:In the original version of the theory, the driving mechanism for spontaneous symmetry breaking was identified in the pure scalar sector. However, this old idea requires a heavy Higgs particle that, after the discovery of the 125 GeV resonance, seems to be ruled out. We argue that this is not necessarily true. If the phase transition is weakly first order, as indicated by most recent lattice simulations, one should consider those approximation schemes that are in agreement with this scenario. Then, even in a simple one-component theory, it becomes natural to introduce two mass scales, say $M_h$ and $m_h$ with $m_h \ll M_h$. This resembles the coexistence of phonons and rotons in superfluid helium-4, which is the non-relativistic analogue of the scalar condensate, and is potentially relevant for the Standard Model. In fact, vacuum stability would depend on $M_h$ and not on $m_h$ and be nearly insensitive to the other parameters of the theory (e.g. the top quark mass). By identifying $m_h=125$ GeV, and with our previous estimate from lattice simulations $M_h= 754 \pm 20 ~\rm{(stat)} \pm 20 ~\rm{(syst)}$ GeV, we thus get in touch with a recent, independent analysis of the ATLAS + CMS data which claims experimental evidence for a scalar resonance around $700$ GeV.
