Abstract:Control and automation technologies are playing a critical role in the trajectory of human civilisation and its impact upon living systems. Interactions between advances in automation and control and society in it's broadest sense are addressed by IFAC's ‘Social Systems’ Coordinating Committee (CC9) and its five Technical Committees (TCs). CC9 is at the crossroads of several disciplines including business and commerce, pedagogy, international development, urban planning, digital culture amongst many others. This paper reports the results of an envisioning of CC9 and its TCs. It begins with an overview of CC9 and it's TCs. Following a strategic review of CC9 TCs, a qualitative analysis of TC reports is outlined. The findings offer a basis for a strategic agenda for social systems (CC9) in its relationship to other technical areas of IFAC. The analysis highlights potential for cooperation between CC9 communities and thirteen non-CC9 TCs, suggesting ways this might be accomplished.

Autonomous Robots

Abstract:Recent technological advances in hardware design of the robotic platforms enabled the implementation of various control modalities for improved interactions with humans and unstructured environments. An important application area for the integration of robots with such advanced interaction capabilities is human–robot collaboration. This aspect represents high socio-economic impacts and maintains the sense of purpose of the involved people, as the robots do not completely replace the humans from the work process. The research community’s recent surge of interest in this area has been devoted to the implementation of various methodologies to achieve intuitive and seamless human–robot-environment interactions by incorporating the collaborative partners’ superior capabilities, e.g. human’s cognitive and robot’s physical power generation capacity. In fact, the main purpose of this paper is to review the state-of-the-art on intermediate human–robot interfaces (bi-directional), robot control modalities, system stability, benchmarking and relevant use cases, and to extend views on the required future developments in the realm of human–robot collaboration.

Abstract:Deep research and communicating new trends in the design, control and applications of the real time control of intelligent sensors systems using advanced intelligent control methods and techniques is the main purpose of this research. The innovative multi-sensor fusion techniques, integrated through the Versatile Intelligent Portable (VIP) platforms are developed, combined with computer vision, virtual and augmented reality (VR&AR) and intelligent communication, including remote control, adaptive sensor networks, human-robot (H2R) interaction systems and machine-to-machine (M2M) interfaces. Intelligent decision support systems (IDSS), including remote sensing, and their integration with DSS, GA-based DSS, fuzzy sets DSS, rough sets-based DSS, intelligent agent-assisted DSS, process mining integration into decision support, adaptive DSS, computer vision based DSS, sensory and robotic DSS, are highlighted in the field of advanced intelligent control.
