Abstract:
Flexible transient electronic devices have great potential applications in medical care and wearable device field. Herein, silk fibroin, a natural protein, was applied as biocompatible and biodegradable building blocks to construct transparent film with extraordinary mechanical property. During the preparation of film, conductive Ag nanowires have been introduced into the film through a patterned "casting" strategy, endowing the film with good conductivity. The silk fibroin film with patterned Ag nanowires is certified to be an effective and stable interdigital capacitive sensor in normal environment, but can dissolve immediately within water in one minute. The method proposed here is simple, facile and low cost, and will promote the development and application of transient electronics in security of information and wearable device fields.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem this paper attempts to address is the development of a degradable flexible transient electronic device with good mechanical properties. Specifically, the researchers used silk fibroin as a biocompatible and biodegradable substrate to prepare a transparent film. They introduced conductive silver nanowires into the film through a patterned "casting" strategy, endowing it with good conductivity. This silk fibroin-based transient electronic device exhibits excellent stability and mechanical properties in normal environments but decomposes very quickly in water, completely dissolving within 1 minute. This method is simple and cost-effective, and it is expected to promote the development of information security and wearable devices. The main contributions of the paper include: 1. **Material Selection**: The choice of natural protein silk fibroin as the substrate addresses the issues of biocompatibility and degradability of traditional polymer substrates in biomedical and wearable device applications. 2. **Preparation Method**: Conductive silver nanowires were introduced into the silk fibroin film through a patterned "casting" strategy, giving the film good conductivity. 3. **Performance Validation**: Experimental data show that this film has good conductivity and mechanical properties in normal environments but can rapidly decompose in water, meeting the requirements of transient electronic devices. 4. **Application Potential**: The potential applications of this technology in the fields of information security and wearable devices are demonstrated, particularly in reducing electronic waste and improving device security. Overall, this study provides a new approach and method for developing high-performance, environmentally friendly, and transiently degradable flexible electronic devices.
