Abstract:Borophene, a two-dimensional (2D) monolayer of elemental boron, has emerged as an intriguing material with superior characteristics including outstanding electronic, optical, chemical, mechanical, and catalytic properties. Due to superior properties, borophene has shown great prospects for a variety of novel applications in the field of energy storage devices, supercapacitors, sensors, and healthcare devices. This review provides an overview of various synthesis techniques to produce borophene nanostructures. Additionally, different simulation approaches have been discussed for studying the structural, electronic, and sensing properties of borophene and its composites. Besides synthesis, this review focuses on exploring the structural and morphological characteristics of borophene materials. Moreover, the uses of 2D borophene in gas sensing, humidity sensing, as well as other chemical sensing have been discussed. Lastly, the current challenges and prospects of this promising 2D nanomaterial have been extensively addressed.

Abstract:Borophene, a two-dimensional material with excellent properties, has attracted significant attention since its synthesis in 2015 due to its potential applications electronics, energy storage, transport, catalysis, plasmonics, superconductivity, sensor, and more. Borophene's unique properties, such as 2D metallic properties, ideal flexibility and strength, antiferromagnetism, and excellent gas-sensing properties, have made it a promising material for use in various fields. In particular, the strength and flexibility of borophene make it an ideal candidate for the design of various devices, and its large surface zone and exceptional conductance make it suitable for use in energy storage devices and electrode material. While borophene is a relatively new material, its synthesis has advanced significantly in recent years. This review introduces several monolayer borophenes synthesized by molecular beam epitaxy on metal substrates, followed by a discussion of two successfully synthesized bilayer borophenes and four borophene-based heterostructures. These developments have opened new possibilities for the integration of borophene into nanodevice applications.

Its exceptional capacities, ionic conductivities, and structural stabilities make borophene a prime candidate for next‐generation energy storage technologies. Monolayer boron nanosheet, commonly known as borophene, has garnered significant attention in recent years due to its unique structural, electronic, mechanical, and thermal properties. This review paper provides a comprehensive overview of the advancements in the synthetic strategies, tunable properties, and prospective applications of borophene, specifically focusing on its potential in energy storage devices. The review begins by discussing the various synthesis techniques for borophene, including molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and chemical methods, such as ultrasonic exfoliation and thermal decomposition of boron‐containing precursors. The tunable properties of borophene, including its electronic, mechanical, and thermal characteristics, are extensively reviewed, with discussions on its bandgap engineering, plasmonic behavior, and thermal conductivity. Moreover, the potential applications of borophene in energy storage devices, particularly as anode materials in metal‐ion batteries and supercapacitors, along with its prospects in other energy storage systems, such as sodium‐oxygen batteries, are succinctly, discussed. Abstract:As a neighbor of carbon in the periodic table, boron exhibits versatile structural and electronic configurations, with its allotropes predicted to possess intriguing structures and properties. Since the experimental realization of two‐dimensional (2D) boron sheets (borophene) on Ag(111) substrates in 2015, the experimental study of the realization and characteristics of borophene has drawn increasing interest. In this review, we summarize the synthesis and properties of borophene, which are mainly based on experimental results. First, the synthesis of borophene on different substrates, as well as borophane and bilayer borophene, featuring unique phases and properties, are discussed. Next, the chemistry of borophene, such as oxidation, hydrogenation, and its integration into heterostructures with other materials, is summarized. We also mention a few works focused on the physical properties of borophene, specifically its electronic properties. Lastly, the brief outlook addresses challenges toward practical applications of borophene and possible solutions.

Abstract:Borophene, a 2D allotrope of boron and the lightest elemental Dirac material, is the latest very promising 2D material owing to its unique structural and electronic characteristics of the X3 and β12 phases. The high atomic density on ridgelines of the β12 phase of borophene provides a substantial orbital overlap, which leads to an excellent electron density in the conduction level and thus to a highly metallic behavior. These unique structural characteristics and electronic properties of borophene attract significant scientific interest. Herein, approaches for crystal growth/synthesis of these unique nanostructures and their potential technological applications are discussed. Various substrate‐supported ultrahigh‐vacuum growth techniques for borophene, such as molecular beam epitaxy, atomic layer deposition, and chemical vapor deposition, along with their challenges, are also summarized. The sonochemical exfoliation and modified Hummer's technique for the synthesis of free‐standing borophene are also discussed. Solution‐phase exfoliation seems to address the scalability issues and expands the applications of these unique materials to various fields, including renewable energy devices and ultrafast sensors. Furthermore, the electronic, optical, thermal, and elastic properties of borophene are thoroughly discussed and are compared with those of graphene and its "cousins." Numerous frontline applications are envisaged and an outlook is presented.

Abstract:Due to ultralow defect formation energy, borophene differs significantly from other 2D (two-dimensional) materials in that it is difficult to distinguish between its crystal and boron (B) vacancy defect. In contrast to other 2D materials like graphene, borophene does not form layers when it is in its bulk state. In addition, borophene NM's atomic structure is different from graphene's in that it consists of connected triangles rather than hexagons. This atomic configuration has gaps where atoms are missing, resulting in a flaw called a "hollow hexagon" (HH). In borophene phases, these HHs can be found in a variety of ratios. The phase intermixing of borophene is a brand-new example of an 'ordered' defect discovered in 2D materials. The majority of 2D materials have flaws or disruptions to the atom arrangement at the boundaries between various domains or phases. Defects play a major influence in determining the properties of materials in a 2D system, because all atoms are virtually on the surface. For instance, the line defects along phase boundaries in borophene have no effect on the material's electrical characteristics at ambient temperature, in contrast to insulating flaws in metallic graphene. The atoms at the borders of borophene easily fit along line faults and adopt the configuration of their neighbors, causing no disruption. Additionally, the line flaws do not disrupt the seamless structure of borophene and maintain its stability and metallic properties. Experimentally, all four borophene phases have been synthesized, and they are all metallic. A list of borophene NM's special characteristics, including its negative Poisson's ratio and extremely anisotropic Young's modulus, is discussed. Here we also emphasized on B's conductive and superconductive qualities. An overview of borophene NM's uses in the energy sectors, including metal ion batteries, and supercapacitors (SCs), is covered in great length at the very end.

Abstract:Borophene, a new member of the two‐dimensional (2D) materials family, has attracted researchers since its first experimental synthesis. Borophene (2D boron nanosheet) differs significantly from other 2D materials due to its low energy requirement to form defects, anisotropy, electron‐deficient structure, multicentered bonding, etc. The uniqueness in properties of borophene compared to other 2D materials makes it suitable for applications in catalysis, sensing, energy storage, etc. The present review summarizes the development of borophene synthesis and emphasizes its applications in catalysis. Different synthesis approaches and their advantages and limitations are discussed briefly as substantial reviews are available on borophene synthesis. The applications of pristine borophene and their modified heterostructure in the field of catalysis were thoroughly reviewed, focusing on the electrocatalysis applications. Finally, the review discussed the future scope of borophene in designing new materials as well as opportunities to be utilized for other application fields. Since there is a lack of a good number of experimental reports on the applications of borophene and its derivatives, a huge opportunity is waiting for the researchers to explore the unknown world of borophene. In this regard, this review will help the researchers in an excellent manner.

Abstract:A monolayer of boron known as borophene has emerged as a novel and fascinating two-dimensional (2D) material with exceptional features, such as anisotropic metallic behavior and supple mechanical and optical capabilities. The engineering of smart functionalized opto-electric 2D materials is essential to obtain biosensors or biodevices of desired performance. Borophene is one of the most emerging 2D materials, and owing to its excellent electroactive surface area, high electron transport, anisotropic behavior, controllable optical and electrochemical properties, ability to be deposited on thin films, and potential to create surface functionalities, it has recently become one of the sophisticated platforms. Despite the difficulty of production, borophene may be immobilized utilizing chemistries, be functionalized on a flexible substrate, and be controlled over electro-optical properties to create a highly sensitive biosensor system that could be used for point-of-care diagnostics. Its electrochemical properties can be tailored by using appropriate nanomaterials, redox mediators, conducting polymers, etc., which will be quite useful for the detection of biomolecules at even trace levels with a high sensitivity and less detection time. This will be quite helpful in developing biosensing devices with a very high sensitivity and with less response time. So, this review will be a crucial foundation as we have discussed the basic properties, synthesis, and potential applications of borophene in nanobiosensing, as well as therapeutic applications.

Abstract:Recently, two-dimensional (2D)-borophene has emerged as a remarkable translational nanomaterial substituting its predecessors in the field of biomedical sensors, diagnostic tools, high-performance healthcare devices, super-capacitors, and energy storage devices. Borophene justifies its demand due to high-performance and controlled optical, electrical, mechanical, thermal, and magnetic properties as compared with other 2D-nanomaterials. However, continuous efforts are being made to translate theoretical and experimental knowledge into pragmatic platforms. To cover the associated knowledge gap, this review explores the computational and experimental chemistry needed to optimize borophene with desired properties. High electrical conductivity due to destabilization of the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO), nano-engineering at the monolayer level, chemistry-oriented biocompatibility, and photo-induced features project borophene for biosensing, bioimaging, cancer treatment, and theragnostic applications. Besides, the polymorphs of borophene have been useful to develop specific bonding for DNA sequencing and high-performance medical equipment. In this review, an overall critical and careful discussion of systematic advancements in borophene-based futuristic biomedical applications including artificial intelligence (AI), Internet-of-Things (IoT), and Internet-of-Medical Things (IoMT) assisted smart devices in healthcare to develop high-performance biomedical systems along with challenges and prospects is extensively addressed. Consequently, this review will serve as a key supportive platform as it explores borophene for next-generation biomedical applications. Finally, we have proposed the potential use of borophene in healthcare management strategies.

Abstract:Since two-dimensional boron sheet (borophene) synthesized on Ag substrates in 2015, research on borophene has grown fast in the fields of condensed matter physics, chemistry, material science, and nanotechnology. Due to the unique physical and chemical properties, borophene has various potential applications. In this review, we summarize the progress on borophene with a particular emphasis on the recent advances. First, we introduce the phases of borophene by experimental synthesis and theoretical predictions. Then, the physical and chemical properties, such as mechanical, thermal, electronic, optical and superconducting properties are summarized. We also discuss in detail the utilization of the borophene for wide ranges of potential application among the alkali metal ion batteries, Li-S batteries, hydrogen storage, supercapacitor, sensor and catalytic in hydrogen evolution, oxygen reduction, oxygen evolution, and CO2 electroreduction reaction. Finally, the challenges and outlooks in this promising field are featured on the basis of its current development.

Abstract:Neighboring carbon and sandwiched between non‐metals and metals in the periodic table of the elements, boron is one of the most chemically and physically versatile elements, and can be manipulated to form dimensionally low planar structures (borophene) with intriguing properties. Herein, the theoretical research and experimental developments in the synthesis of borophene, as well as its excellent properties and application in many fields, are reviewed. The decade‐long effort toward understanding the size‐dependent structures of boron clusters and the theory‐directed synthesis of borophene, including bottom‐up approaches based on different foundations, as well as up‐down approaches with different exfoliation modes, and the key factors influencing the synthetic effects, are comprehensively summarized. Owing to its excellent chemical, electronic, mechanical, and thermal properties, borophene has shown great promise in supercapacitor, battery, hydrogen‐storage, and biomedical applications. Furthermore, borophene nanoplatforms used in various biomedical applications, such as bioimaging, drug delivery, and photonic therapy, are highlighted. Finally, research progress, challenges, and perspectives for the future development of borophene in large‐scale production and other prospective applications are discussed.

Abstract:Borophene is composed purely of boron atoms and arranged in a hexagonal structure with conventional covalent bonds between each boron atom. Recently, researchers have shown a burgeoning research interest in borophene, not only regarding industrial applications but also in the field of biomedicine. Here, we provide an up-to-date summary of the recent advances in borophene-based nano-medicine. We firstly introduce the structural, mechanical, electrical, optical, thermal conductivity, biocompatibility, toxicity, photothermal and photodynamic effects of borophene. Subsequently, we fully discuss the differences between borophene, MXenes and graphene synthesized using traditional methods. Finally, we review the emerging use of borophenes as biosensors and therapeutics. We used strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT) analysis to assess both the current and future marketing potential of 2D based nanomaterials in cancer therapeutics. Current challenges and future perspectives for the use of borophene are additionally discussed.

Abstract:Now a day, borophene and the related materials are of significant interest in scientific domain due to their distinguished properties. Borophene has been treated as most emerging and promising material in energy, sensor, biomedical and many other applications. Borophene has been implemented in storage applications for preparation of high performance supercapacitors (SCs) due to their better flexibility, higher capacitance, and conductivity characteristics which enable them challenging for use as electrodes superior to graphene in Scs. In view of such relevance of borophene in diversified sectors, the work in the present investigation is to survey the literature to know about synthesis, stability, characteristic properties of borophene and the related materials through the possible experimental methods so as to utilize them in the production of high performance supercapacitors. The information received from the survey reveals that the synthesis of borophene from sundry crystallographic structures of boron will impart new insights of borophene for its implementation in large scales. The Raman spectrum and zeta potential method are used for structural and stability analysis of borophene and the associated materials. In particular, Polyaniline (PANI): α borophene nano network electrode is found with high specific capacity and good stability for SCs.

Abstract:Borophene, with its unique properties such as excellent conductivity, high thermal stability, and tunable electronic band structure, holds immense promise for advancing photodetector technology. These qualities make it an attractive material for enhancing the efficiency and performance of photodetectors across various wavelengths. Research so far has highlighted borophene's potential in improving sensitivity, response time, and overall functionality in optoelectronic devices. However, to fully realize the potential of borophene-based photodetectors, several challenges must be addressed. A major hurdle is the reproducibility and scalability of borophene synthesis, which is essential for its widespread use in practical applications. Furthermore, understanding the underlying physics of borophene and optimizing the device architecture are critical for achieving consistent performance under different operating conditions. These challenges must be overcome to enable the effective integration of borophene into commercial photodetector devices. A thorough evaluation of borophene-based photodetectors is necessary to guide future research and development in this field. This review will provide a detailed account of the current synthesis methods, discuss the experimental results, and identify the challenges that need to be addressed. Additionally, the review will explore potential strategies to overcome these obstacles, paving the way for significant advancements in solar cells, light-based sensors, and environmental monitoring systems. Abstract:Recently, borophene (B-R), a two-dimensional (2-D), crystalline allotrope of single-sheet boron, with a synergy of triangular lattice and hexagonal holes, have garnered great attention. The emergence of nanotechnology has resulted in embedment of nanomaterials within polymeric matrices to enhance a plethora of properties in polymeric nanoarchitectures thereby enlarging their scope of applications in a wide variety of sectors. Borophene, an analog of 2-D graphene (GN), has been utilized in functionalizing polymeric matrices to garner B-R polymeric nanoarchitectures with enhanced properties and multifunctional applications. Therefore, this elucidation presents the design, fabrication, characterization, and properties of B-R and B-R polymeric nanoarchitectures and multifacet applications.

Abstract:A two-dimensional crystalline allotrope of boron, Borophene, has attracted much interest lately because of its unique electrical characteristics and possible uses in electronic devices.
