Abstract:This study is to examine Hamlet's delay through the world of time in which the crime was committed and within which Hamlet must work his revenge; and the timeless world where he has been shown the crime and commanded to revenge it: It is the character of Hamlet that causes the procrasti-nation of his revenge. Hamlet is unable to carry out the Ghost's command to revenge his death and to put an end to luxury and incest in Denmark. Because he allows his milld to become fainted with passion which springs from his inability to bear the knowledge of his mother's implication in the corruption that is at the heart of Denmark. His understanding is dimmed as he sinks into an abyss of cynicism, despair and misanthropy. In his central soliloquy he agonizes his life and death through suicide, only to allude to make the same equation of sleep and death. From the grave-scene Hamlet gets ready to receive the view of Providence that he can say... "there is a special Providence in the fall of a sparrow..." He regains his faith in the providence, and he discovers a new pattern in the world which is untainted by the Ghost's command. He can perform an act of revenge for the purpose of eradicating root of evil in Elsinore, and of purging the evil of the world. Now he is transformed into a new man...a man of action. In Ⅴ. ⅱ. this play has been begun: not by Hamlet's words but the action of his enemies. His revenge is successful. Hamlet accomplishes the coordination of sleep and death as his tormented soliloquy.
