Abstract: Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a finite thick generalized quadrangle, and suppose that $G$ is an automorphism group of $\mathcal{S}$. If $G$ acts primitively on both the points and lines of $\mathcal{S}$, then it is known that $G$ must be almost simple. In this paper, we show that if the socle of $G$ is $\mathrm{PSL}(2,q)$ with $q\geq4$, then $q=9$ and $\mathcal{S}$ is the unique generalized quadrangle of order $2$.

Abstract:Let 𝒮 be a finite thick generalized quadrangle, and suppose that G is an automorphism group of 𝒮 . If G acts primitively on both the points and lines of 𝒮 , then it is known that G must be almost simple. In this paper, we show that if the socle of G is PSL(2,q) with q≥ 4 , then q=9 and 𝒮 is the unique generalized quadrangle of order 2.

Abstract:We consider a purely algebraic result. Then given a circle or cyclic group of prime order action on a manifold, we will use it to estimate the lower bound of the number of fixed points. We also give an obstruction to the existence of $\mathbb{Z}_p$ action on manifolds with isolated fixed points when $p$ is a prime.

Abstract:Let $X(Q)=QC$ be a group, where $Q$ is a generalized quaternion group and $C$ is a cyclic group such that $Q\cap C=1$. In this paper, $X(Q)$ will be characterized and moreover, a complete classification for that will be given, provided $C$ is core-free. For the reason of self-constraint, in this paper a classification of the group $X(D)=DC$ is also given, where $D$ is a dihedral group and $C$ is a cyclic group such that $D\cap C=1$ and $C$ is core-free. Remind that the group $X(D)$ was recently classified in [12], based on a number of papers on skew-morphisms of dihedral groups. In this paper, a different approach from that in [12] will be used.

Abstract:We prove that the restriction operator for the sublaplacian on the quaternion Heisenberg group is bounded from L p to L p′ if 1 ≤ p ≤ $\tfrac{4}{3}$. This is different from the Heisenberg group, on which the restriction operator is not bounded from L p to L p′ unless p = 1.

Abstract:The fixing number of a graph is the minimum number of vertices that, when fixed, remove all nontrivial automorphisms from the automorphism group of . This concept was extended to finite groups by Gibbons and Laison. The fixing set of a finite group G is the set of all fixing numbers of graphs whose automorphism groups are isomorphic to G . Surprisingly few fixing sets of groups have been established; only the fixing sets of abelian groups and dihedral groups are completely understood. However, the fixing sets of symmetric groups have been studied previously. In this article, we establish new elements of the fixing sets of symmetric groups by considering line graphs of complete graphs. We conclude by establishing the fixing sets of generalized quaternion groups.

Limits of limit sets in rank-one symmetric spaces

Abstract:We consider the question of continuity of limit sets for sequences of geometrically finite subgroups of isometry groups of rank-one symmetric spaces, and prove analogues of classical (Kleinian) theorems in this context. In particular we show that, assuming strong convergence of the sequence of subgroups, the limit sets vary continuously with respect to Hausdorff distance, and if the sequence is weakly type-preserving, the sequence of Cannon-Thurston maps also converges uniformly to a limiting Cannon-Thurston map. Our approach uses the theory of extended geometrically finite representations, developed recently by the second author.

Abstract:A group $H$ of holomorphic automorphisms of a compact $d$-dimensional complex manifold $M$ is called a generalized Fermat group of type $(d;k,n)$ if $H\cong {\mathbb Z}_{k}^{n}$ and there is a Galois holomorphic branched covering $\pi:M \to {\mathbb P}^{d}$, with deck group $H$, whose branch divisor consists of $n+1$ hyperplanes in general position (each one of branch order $k$). We prove that generalized Fermat groups of type $(d;k,n)$ are unique for $(d;k,n) \notin \{(2;2,5), (2;4,3)\}$.

Abstract:A central problem in the study of generalized quadrangles is to classify finite generalized quadrangles satisfying certain symmetry conditions. It is known that an automorphism group of a finite thick generalized quadrangle $\mathcal{S}$ acting primitively on both the points and lines of $\mathcal{S}$ must be almost simple. In this paper, we initiate the study of finite generalized quadrangles admitting a point-primitive and line-primitive automorphism group with socle being a unitary group. We develop a group-theoretic tool to prove that the socle of such a group cannot be ${\rm PSU}(3,q)$ with $q\geq 3$.

Principal series of quaternionic Lie groups induced from Heisenberg parabolic subgroups

Abstract:Let $G/K$ be an irreducible quaternionic symmetric space of rank $4$. We study the principal series representation $\pi_\nu=\text{Ind}_P^G(1\otimes e^\nu\otimes 1)$ of $G$ induced from the Heisenberg parabolic subgroup $P=MAN$ realized on $L^2(K/L)$, $L=K\cap M$. We find the $K$-types in the induced representation via a double cover $K/L_0\to K/L$ and a circle bundle $K/L_0\to K/L_1$ over a compact Hermitian symmetric space $K/L_1$. We compute the Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$-action of $G$ on the representation space. We find the complementary series, reducible points, and unitary subrepresentations in this family of representations.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the topological space of normalized quaternion-valued positive definite functions on an arbitrary abelian group G , especially its convex characteristics. There are two main results. Firstly, we prove that the extreme elements in the family of such functions are exactly the homomorphisms from G to the sphere group , i.e., the unit 3-sphere in the quaternion algebra. Secondly, we reveal a new phenomenon: The compact convex set of such functions is not a Bauer simplex except when G is of exponent . In contrast, its complex counterpart is always a Bauer simplex, as is well known. We also present an integral representation for such functions as an application and some other minor results.

Frattini subgroups of hyperbolic-like groups

Abstract:We study Frattini subgroups of various generalizations of hyperbolic groups. For any countable group $G$ admitting a general type action on a hyperbolic space $S$, we show that the induced action of the Frattini subgroup $\Phi(G)$ on $S$ has bounded orbits. This implies that $\Phi(G)$ is "small" compared to $G$; in particular, $|G:\Phi(G)|=\infty$. In contrast, for any finitely generated non-cyclic group $Q$ with $\Phi(Q)=\{ 1\}$, we construct an infinite lacunary hyperbolic group $L$ such that $L/\Phi(L)\cong Q$; in particular, the Frattini subgroup of an infinite lacunary hyperbolic group can have finite index. As an application, we obtain the first examples of invariably generated, infinite, lacunary hyperbolic groups.

Abstract:A limit group is the limit of a sequence of conjugates of the diagonal Cartan subgroup, C, of SL(3,R). We show C has 5 possible limit groups, up to conjugacy. Each limit group is determined by an equivalence class of nonstandard triangle, and we give a criterion for a sequence of conjugates of C to converge to each of the 5 limit groups.
On Groups in the Qubit Clifford Hierarchy

Abstract:Here we study the unitary groups that can be constructed using elements from the qubit Clifford Hierarchy. We first provide a necessary and sufficient canonical form that semi-Clifford and generalized semi-Clifford elements must satisfy to be in the Clifford Hierarchy. Then we classify the groups that can be formed from such elements. Up to Clifford conjugation, we classify all such groups that can be constructed using generalized semi-Clifford elements in the Clifford Hierarchy. We discuss a possible minor exception to this classification in the appendix. This may not be a full classification of all groups in the qubit Clifford Hierarchy as it is not currently known if all elements in the Clifford Hierarchy must be generalized semi-Clifford. In addition to the diagonal gate groups found by Cui et al., we show that many non-isomorphic (to the diagonal gate groups) generalized symmetric groups are also contained in the Clifford Hierarchy. Finally, as an application of this classification, we examine restrictions on transversal gates given by the structure of the groups enumerated herein which may be of independent interest.
