Abstract:This paper is about a method for solving infinite series in closed form by using inverse and forward Laplace transforms. The resulting integral is to be solved instead. The method is extended by parametrizing the series. A further Laplace transform with respect to it will offer more options for solving a series.

Abstract:where / ( / ) is a differentiate function defined on the real number interval [a, b), and x may be a real or complex number with x*0 and x*l. Obviously, the case for x = l of (1.1) could be generally treated by means of the well-known Euler-Maclaurin summation formula. The object of this paper is to find a general summation formula for (1.1) that could be applied readily to some interesting special cases, e.g., those with f{i)-t (2 ei?), / ( / ) = logf (V>1), and f(t) = q (0<q<l)9 respectively. Related results will be presented in Sections 3-5. Recall that for the particular case f(t) = t and [a, b) = [0, oo) with/? being a positive integer, we have the classical result (cf. [1], [2], [4])

Abstract:We propose a general method for constructing the semi-analytical solution of the inverse Laplace transform, realized through the powerful exponential approximation invented by Wang et al. in 1993. Bearing their credits, this method inherits all the merits such as analytical expression, avoiding free parameters, simple calculation with high accuracy, and the availability of error estimation. Illustrating calculations indicate the potential applications to the vast problems in the fields of mathematical physics as well as engineering and medicine.

Abstract:Laplace- and Helmholtz-type boundary value problems with singularities are considered. A sequence of approximations to the exact boundary conditions at an artificial boundary is given. Then the original problem is reduced to a boundary value problem in a domain away from the singularities. Furthermore, finite-element approximations are applied to this problem and error estimates are obtained. Finally, some numerical examples show the effectiveness of this method.

Abstract:We derive finite difference equations of infinite order for theta-hypergeometric series and investigate the space of their solutions. In general, such infinite series diverge, and we describe some constraints on the parameters when they do converge. In particular, we lift the Hardy-Littlewood criterion of the convergence of -hypergeometric series for , , to the elliptic level and prove the convergence of infinite very-well poised elliptic hypergeometric -series for restricted values of . Analytical Calculation of the Inverse Nabla Laplace Transform

Abstract:The inversion of nabla Laplace transform, corresponding to a causal sequence, is considered. Two classical methods, i.e., residual calculation method and partial fraction expansion method are developed to perform the inverse nabla Laplace transform. For the first method, two alternative formulae are proposed when adopting the poles inside or outside of the contour, respectively. For the second method, a table on the transform pairs of those popular functions is carefully established. Besides illustrating the effectiveness of the developed methods with two illustrative examples, the applicability are further discussed in the fractional order case.

Abstract:This work introduces a new functional series for expanding an analytic function in terms of an arbitrary analytic function. It is generally applicable and straightforward to use. It is also suitable for approximating the behavior of a function with a few terms. A new expression is presented for the composite function's n'th derivative. The inverse-composite method is handled in this work also.

On the Laguerre Method for Numerically Inverting Laplace Transforms

Abstract:The Laguerre method for numerically inverting Laplace transforms is an old established method based on the 1935 Tricomi–Widder theorem, which shows (under suitable regularity conditions) that the desired function can be represented as a weighted sum of Laguerre functions, where the weights are coefficients of a generating function constructed from the Laplace transform using a bilinear transformation. We present a new variant of the Laguerre method based on: (i) using our previously developed variant of the Fourier-series method to calculate the coefficients of the Laguerre generating function, (ii) developing systematic methods for scaling, and (iii) using Wynn's ϵ-algorithm to accelerate convergence of the Laguerre series when the Laguerre coefficients do not converge to zero geometrically fast. These contributions significantly expand the class of transforms that can be effectively inverted by the Laguerre method. We provide insight into the slow convergence of the Laguerre coefficients as well as propose a remedy. Before acceleration, the rate of convergence can often be determined from the Laplace transform by applying Darboux's theorem. Even when the Laguerre coefficients converge to zero geometrically fast, it can be difficult to calculate the desired functions for large arguments because of roundoff errors. We solve this problem by calculating very small Laguerre coefficients with low relative error through appropriate scaling. We also develop another acceleration technique for the case in which the Laguerre coefficients converge to zero geometrically fast. We illustrate the effectiveness of our algorithm through numerical examples.

Abstract:Eight infinite series involving harmonic-like numbers are coherently and systematically reviewed. They are evaluated in closed form exclusively by integration together with calculus and complex analysis. In particular, a mysterious series W is introduced and shown to be expressible in terms of the trilogarithm function. Several remarkable integral values and difficult infinite series identities are shown as consequences.

Abstract:This paper focuses on the equavilent expression of fractional integrals/derivatives with an infinite series. A general framework for fractional Taylor series is developed by expanding an analytic function at the initial instant or the current time. The framework takes into account of the Riemann-Liouville definition, the Caputo definition, the constant order and the variable order. On this basis, some properties of fractional calculus are confirmed conveniently. An intuitive numerical approximation scheme is proposed subquently. Finally, several illustrative examples are presented to validate the effectiveness and practicability of the obtained results.

Abstract:In this paper we derive error estimates for infinite element method used in the approximation of solutions of interface problems. Furthermore, approximations of stress intensity factors are given. The infinite element method may be considered as a certain scheme of mesh refinement, but it has the advantages that the refinement is easy to be constructed that the stiffness matrix can be calculated efficiently, and that an approximate solution which has a singularity at the singular point can be also obtained.

Abstract:The aim of this article is to investigate the issues of multiplicative inverses and composition in the set of formal Laurent series. We show the lack of uniqueness of inverse series to formal Laurent series. Some necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of inverse series to a certain type formal Laurent series are provided. Moreover, we define a general composition of formal Laurent series and investigate the Right Distributive Law and the Chain Rule for formal Laurent series. Finally, we provide a sufficient condition for the boundary convergence of formal Laurent series.

On the series solutions of integral equations in scattering

Abstract:We study the validity of the Neumann or Born series approach in solving the Helmholtz equation and coefficient identification in related inverse scattering problems. Precisely, we derive a sufficient and necessary condition under which the series is strongly convergent. We also investigate the rate of convergence of the series. The obtained condition is optimal and it can be much weaker than the traditional requirement for the convergence of the series. Our approach makes use of reduction space techniques proposed by Suzuki \cite{Suzuki-1976}. Furthermore we propose an interpolation method that allows the use of the Neumann series in all cases. Finally, we provide several numerical tests with different medium functions and frequency values to validate our theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, the effective application of numericalinversion of Laplace transforms, based on Fourier series expansionsdeveloped by Dubner, Abate and Durbin, is studied for problems ofviscoelastic mechanics. A crucial free parameter is involved in this sort ofmethod and required to be reasonably valued for particular application inadvance since its improper choice leads to obvious errors. An optimal modelto determine the free parameter is constructed in the paper and itsapplicability is validated by the numerical inversion of two types of simplefunctions. As examples to illustrate the practical implementation ofproposed method, the quasi-static and dynamic analysis, within the scope ofaxisymmetric problem, are performed for viscoelastic laminated circularcylindrical shells under uniformly axial pressure and viscoelastic cylindersubjected to inner pressure with abrupt loading respectively. Numericalexperiments show that the optimal model yields valid free parameter, and theproduction of free parameter and calculation time $t$ lies in a definite range.Also it is concluded that the free parameter can be set to be inverselyproportional to $t$ with the proportional coefficient chosen among an effectiverange or determined directly by the result from optimal model for specificcalculation time, and the range of this proportional coefficient isconsidered to be irrelevant to parameter T.

Abstract:A simple, fast semianalytical method is introduced for solving boundary value problems in volving the Laplace equation. This method used parts of the boundary condition alternatively to obtain the final solution satisfying the real boundary condition. This method results in a series form of the solution that is easy to compute. The method was used to solve several engineering examples with boundary conditions of the first and the second kinds and various domains including circles, circles with several holes, and cylinders with a spherical cutout. These examples, required a maximum of 21 terms and 10 cycles of the boundary conditions to get accurate results. The results show that the method is a practical way to solve Laplace boundary value problems. 
