Abstract:Dopamine is an important neurotransmitter for organisms and affects their function, so monitoring and detecting dopamine levels is essential. Sensitivity and selectivity of electrochemical sensors for the detection of dopamine usually relies on hybrid nanocomposites. In this context, we designed a micro-regionally restricted hybrid nanocomposite by modulating the micro-nano structure. Using functional groups on nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide (N-rGO) to restrict the random growth of tungsten disulfide nanosheets, we obtained a 2D layered material with bidirectional structural support to achieve high specific surface and high activity for application in robust and novel dopamine electrochemical sensors. A facile electrochemical sensor for dopamine detection was fabricated by modifying a screen-printed carbon electrode with the nanocomposite. The sensor exhibits excellent performance of dopamine detection in the wide range of 1 μmol/L100 μmol/L with a detection limit of 0.2 μmol/L and a high sensitivity of 0.56 μA/μmol/L. The optimized sensor shows a good selectivity, satisfactory long-term stability and reproducibility towards DA and a separation of peak potential of 142 mV with uric acid. In addition, the prepared sensor provides favorable recovery in human serum and artificial cerebrospinal solution (aSCF), indicating great potentials in electrochemical detection and biological sensing applications.

Abstract:Neurotransmitter dopamine (DA) has been implicated in a variety of physiological and pathological processes, realizing its low detection limit and high sensitivity analysis is of great significance for early disease diagnosis. Herein, we propose a simple pyrolysis approach for dispersing Fe-sites onto the N-doped graphene support (denoted as Fe/N-GR) to construct an electrochemical biosensor for DA detection. The fully exposed Fe-sites guaranteed the well-defined active center for electrochemical oxidation of DA. The Fe/N-GR electrochemical biosensor achieves an ultra-low detection limit for DA of 27 pM with a linear range of 50 pM-15 nM. Specifically, the Fe/N-GR electrochemical biosensor exhibits favorable sensitivity and enzyme-level molecular identification ability in the selective detection of DA versus other typical redox-active interferents. What's more, the detection of dopamine in real human serum samples verifies the applicability of the developed sensor. Our results demonstrate a promising means of using fully exposed metal-site subnanometric catalysts for electrochemical sensing applications.
Fabrication and performance evaluation of rGO-PANI supported NiP/TMD based biosensors for electrochemical detection of dopamine

Abstract:In this study, we present a novel approach for electrochemical sensing of DPA through the development of a unique electrode. It (WM-GP@NiMoP) composed of a mixed transition metal dichalcogenides (WS 2 -MoS 2 ) supported by rGO and PANI, embedded via a facile electroless NiMoP plating technique. To evaluate the physico-chemical properties of the coatings, including phase analysis (X-Ray diffraction studies), morphology (Filed emission scanning electron microscopy), topology (Atomic force microscopy) and to assess the catalytic activity of the electrode for DPA sensing. The sensing behavior under various operating conditions, encompassing scan rate and pH of the analyte. The durability and performance evaluation were conducted to identify the consistent performance at an optimal pH value of 7 and it shown remarkable selective sensitivity and suppression of glucose and ascorbic acid interferences. The k 0 values for the reversible electrode systems like dopamine was reasonable (5.3 ×10 −10 cm/s) for the respective oxidation reactions. The CV analysis envisages the sensing potential of electrode towards DPA oxidation due to synergistic effect between PANI and rGO to MTMD on NiMoP coated electrodes. The work highlights the remarkable sensing capabilities of the WM-GP12 @NiMoP electrode in the field of electrochemical detection of DPA. Its exceptional sensitivity towards sensing of DPA establishes it as a significant advancement in electrochemical sensing technology.

Interfacial galvanic replacement strategy for Pd-doped NiFe MOF nanosheets with highly efficient dopamine detection

Abstract:An interfacial galvanic replacement strategy to controllable synthesize palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs)-modified NiFe MOF nanocomposite on nickel foam, which served as an efficient sensing platform for quantitative determination of dopamine (DA). Pd NPs grown in situ on the nanosheets of NiFe MOF via self-driven galvanic replacement reaction (GRR) and well uniform distribution was achieved. This method effectively reduced the aggregation of metallic nanoparticles and significantly promoted the electron transfer rate during the electrochemical process, leading to improved electrocatalytic activity for DA oxidation. Remarkably, the precisely constructed biosensor achieved a low detection limit (LOD) of 0.068 µM and recovery of 94.1% (RSD 6.7%, N = 3) for simulated real sample detection and also exhibited superior selectivity and stability. The results confirmed that the as-fabricated Pd-NiFe/NF composite electrode could realize the quantitative determination of DA and showed promising prospects in real sample biosensing.
Engineering FeOOH/Fe2O3@Carbon Interfaces with Biomass‐Derived Carbon Nanodot/Iron Colloids for Efficient Redox‐Modulated Dopamine Voltammetric Detection

Abstract:The Fe2+/Fe3+ redox couple is effective for voltammetric detection of trace dopamine (DA). However, achieving adequate concentrations with high electroactive surface area (ECSA), DA affinity, and fast interfacial charge transfer is challenging. Consequently, most reported Fe‐based sensors have a high nanomolar range detection limit (LOD). Herein, we address these limitations by manipulating the phase and morphology of FeOOH/Fe2O3 heterojunctions anchored on sp2‐carbon. FeOOH/Fe2O3 is synthesized by variable temperature aging of unique Fe5H9O15/Fe2O3@sp2‐carbon colloidal nanoparticles, which form via chelation between biomass‐derived carbon nanodots (CNDs) and Fe2+ ions. At 27°C and 120°C, Fe5H9O15/Fe2O3@sp2‐carbon transforms into β‐FeOOH/Fe2O3 nanoparticles and α‐FeOOH/Fe2O3 nanosheet, respectively. The β‐FeOOH/Fe2O3 interface exhibits higher eg orbital electron occupancy than α‐FeOOH/Fe2O3, thereby facilitating oxygen adsorption and the generation of Fe2+/Fe3+ sites near the polarization potential of DA. This facilitates interfacial electron transfer between Fe3+ and DA. Moreover, its nanoparticle morphology enhances ECSA and DA adsorption compared to α‐FeOOH/Fe2O3 nanosheets. With a LOD of ~3.11 nM, β‐FeOOH/Fe2O3 surpasses the lower threshold in humans (~10 nM) and matches noble‐metal sensors. Furthermore, it exhibits selective detection of DA over 10 biochemicals in urine. Therefore, the β‐FeOOH/Fe2O3@sp2‐C platform holds promise as a low‐cost, easy‐to‐synthesize, and practical voltammetric DA monitor.

Abstract:The interfacing of polyoxometalates and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) can be considered to be an effective way to generate hybrid structures which colligates the advantages of both components. Here, a hybrid material (polyoxometalate‐based metal–organic framework (POMOF)/rGO) integrating POMOF and rGO is obtained via a simple one‐pot approach. The as‐prepared materials are used as electrochemical active materials to detect dopamine for the first time. It is shown that the hybridization results in a superior catalytic activity for oxidation of dopamine owing to the synergistic effect between POMOF and rGO, as well as favorable interaction of DA with CC network of the composite. The promoted electron transfer, as well as abundant active sites, open channels, and aromatic planes in the hybrid material produce a wider linear detection range of 1 × 10−6 to 2 × 10−4 m with the lower detection limit of 80.4 × 10−9 m (S/N = 3). Moreover, the developed biosensor also exhibits favorable selectivity, reproducibility, and stability. As a non‐noble metal catalyst constructing from function and structure‐matched building blocks, the prepared POMOF/rGO hybrid material demonstrates its highly promising properties for dopamine detection and the result should promote the further development of POMOF‐based sensors.

Abstract:A hollow Co3O4 turtle shell‐like structure (HS‐Co3O4) was synthesized from ZIF‐67 and was employed for the first time to electrochemically real‐time monitor DA. The as‐prepared DA HS‐Co3O4 sensor accomplishes an outstanding limit of detection (LOD) of 3 nM, a broad linear range of 0.01‐360 μM, good stability and high selectivity, and was further used to successfully real‐time monitor DA released from living cells, demonstrating its great potential in practical applications in clinic diagnosis and bioscience research. Abstract:The fabrication and functionalization of three-dimensional (3D) MXene are vital for diverse high-performance applications. Herein, the construction of 3D porous MXene architecture and its functionalization with graphene are synchronously implemented by breath figure method. 3D porous rGO/MXene with multi-scale pores is prepared by simply casting the mixture of GO/surfactant and MXene/surfactant solution under humid environment and the subsequent reduction process. The aggregation inhibition of GO and MXene nanosheets at multi-scale caused by surfactant intercalation and the formation of 3D porous structure, as well as the increase in surface area induced by the introduction of GO, enlarged lamellar spacing and multi-scale porous structure endow porous rGO/MXene with excellent electrochemical performance. The synergy of rGO and MXene leads to further improvement in electrochemical property and its stability. Low detection limit, good anti-interference, repeatability, reproducibility, long-range stability and accuracy of actual sample testing are exhibited when porous rGO/MXene is used for electrochemical detection of DA. Furthermore, the electrochemical performance could be controlled via tuning the porous structure and ratio of GO and MXene. This study not only demonstrates the superiority of porous rGO/MXene toward electrochemical sensing, but also proposes a simple and universal method for controllable construction and functionalization of 3D MXene architecture.

Abstract:The in situ Nickel oxide-zinc oxide-doped reduced graphene oxide (NiO–ZnO/rGO) nanocomposite is synthesized by the hydrothermal method. NiO–ZnO/rGO nanocomposite-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) utilized as electrochemical sensor for dopamine sensing. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), RAMAN spectroscopy, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used for morphological and structural characterizations of NiO–ZnO/rGO nanocomposite. Further investigation of the redox response and the charge transfer characteristics of dopamine (DA) at NiO–ZnO/rGO-modified GCE tested using cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The prepared GCE nanocomposite-modified electrochemical sensor show a linear response of redox peak current for DA in the concentration range of 0.0041–0.054 μM. The active electrochemical surface area of the sensor found to be 2.1 × 10 −6 cm 2 , with low detection limit of 0.0076 μM and high sensitivity of 12.19 μA L cm −2 Mol −1 . The constructed sensor has close to 100% recovery toward DA in voluntarily collected human urine samples. The composite exhibits good reproducibility for sensing DA for month, which is an indication of their repeatability. Also designed sensors show 123% retention current to 100 cycles of CV indicates the good stability of the sensor to DA, which are crucial for the fabrication of further devices.

Abstract:In this study, a simple and multifunctional application for Co-based organic frameworks (Co-MOFs) with molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOTs:PSS) is presented. The Co-MOFs with MoS 2 exhibit excellent peroxidase mimicking and catalytic activities, making them suitable for colorimetric dopamine sensors. From an electrochemical standpoint, fouling-free and selective sensing of dopamine (DA) and norepinephrine (NE) is highly challenging. However, the synergistic effect of morphological tunability of Co-MOFs with hybrid composites of MoS 2 and PEDOTs:PSS offers a wide detection concentration range of 2 nM-350 μM for DA and 20 nM-1000 μM for NE, high sensitivity, excellent anti-fouling, facile kinetic rate reaction, and rapid signal response. A high selectivity rate was achieved in the presence of twenty times higher concentrations of a mixture of ascorbic acid, uric acid, and other bio-chemical co-interferents. Interestingly, ultrasensitive detection limits of 0.23 nM and 2.18 nM (S/N = 3) were achieved for DA and NE, enabling the real-time precise detection of cellular concentrations in PC12 living cells, and biological fluid samples with simple dilution pretreatments. Moreover, the sensor demonstrated satisfactory reproducibility and stability. Finally, the morphological and composite activity-based probes can detect neurotransmitter concentrations in real samples beyond the concentration limit, suggesting a potential clinical sensor tool.

Abstract:Emerging technology to the new era of sensors to detect and quantify neurological reaction-based research has been demanded towards the development of neurotransmitter, dopamine (DA) sensors. In recent decades, electrochemical sensors offer rapid and sensitive detection of DA, however the presence of interfering compounds such as uric acid (UA), and ascorbic acid (AA) poses a great threat for the development of DA sensors. Additionally, reusing the traditional methods leads to challenges like prolonged preparation and expensive instruments. This research work offers nanohybrid two-dimensional (2D) paper-like graphene oxide (GO) and three-dimensional (3D) cerium oxide nanosphere (CeONS) heterostructure composite (G-CeONS) via stoichiometric synthesis for non-enzymatic detection of DA oxidation in the presence of other complex biological compounds. The constructed G-CeONS nanohybrid composite enables enhanced selectivity and sensitivity towards DA detection through its interfacial engineering. Heterostructure formation of 2D nanosheet draped over 3D nanospheres exhibits a wider linear range of concentrations (100-30800 nM) with the low detection limit of 20.98 nM. Further investigation of real time performance on human saliva, and DA injections exhibited prominent results. In addition, the synergetic effect of G-CeONS improves the DA detection accuracy, and reliability towards enabling transformational neurochemical and medicinal applications.

Abstract:Atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors and their hybrid electrodes show great promise in the advancement of neural sensors for detecting neurotransmitters either through implantation on the brain's surface or by direct detection in biological fluids. This research demonstrated the fabrication of a sub-10 nm thick 2D MoO3-WO3 heterostructure electrode via atomic layer deposition (ALD) for the first time to detect dopamine (DA). The developed thin-film with uniform surface morphology possessed monoclinic and orthorhombic crystal structures of WO3 and MoO3, respectively, with the presence of oxygen vacancies and their sub-stoichiometric phases. The MoO3-WO3 sensor showed excellent catalytic activity for the interference-free detection of DA by suppressing the redox activity of common interferences, ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA). The ultra-sensitivity of DA oxidation can be ascribed to the effective electrostatic interaction and chemical coordination between the positively charged DA (at pH 7.0) and the MoO3-WO3. In contrast, the predominant electrostatic repulsive force between the negatively charged AA and UA (at pH 7.0) and the MoO3-WO3 suppressed their electrochemical responses. The sensor showed a nanomolar detection limit (20 nM) and a wide linear range for DA detection, which is highly appropriate for its determination in biological samples. Additionally, the sensor demonstrated excellent electrochemical stability, high reproducibility, and good recoveries of DA determination in diluted human serum samples.

Abstract:Dopamine (DA) detection is significant for the prevention of unfavorable neuronal illness. However, the detection of DA with low concentration still face tremendous challenges. In this study, highly ordered mesoporous Fe3O4 materials were synthesized as a biosensor by using mesoporous silica KIT-6 with different aging temperature as hard template. The ordered mesoporous Fe3O4 with high surface area modified glassy carbon electrode shows the high sensitivity for detecting DA. Fe3O4-40 mesoporous material modified electrode has the highest catalytic activity to DA with a sensitivity of 0.053 nA nM-1 and a detection limit of 0.8 nM (S/N = 3). The results indicating that the mesoporous Fe3O4 material modified electrode exhibits high sensitivity to determine DA at low levels, which can be used for DA real-time monitoring in neutral biological media.

Abstract:Construction and functionalization of a 3D graphene architecture are crucial to harness and extend the unique features of graphene and thus essential for its numerous conventional and novel applications. Herein, a 3D honeycomb-patterned porous graphene architecture is constructed through a facile and low-cost self-assembly process and then integrated with Cu2O nanoparticles via a simple electrodeposition procedure. The 3D porous graphene structure is prepared by the breath figure method using a graphene oxide (GO)-based complex in which GO is modified by a surfactant as the casting material. Benefiting from the intercalation of the surfactant between the GO nanosheets and the fabrication of a 3D porous structure, the aggregation inhibition of GO nanosheets and increases in accessible surface area are realized at both nano- and microscales, resulting in good electrochemical performance. Moreover, the deposition of Cu2O nanoparticles can further improve the electrochemical sensing performance of the porous reduced graphene oxide (rGO) structure. Extremely low detection limit (30.72 nM) with a linear range of 0 μM to 30 μM, excellent anti-interference, repeatability, reproducibility, stability, and high accuracy for actual sample testing are shown when the 3D porous Cu2O/rGO film is applied as an electrochemical sensor for DA detection. This work provides not only a superior electrochemical biosensor but also a simple, yet effective and general strategy for the construction and functionalization of a 3D graphene structure.
Ordered mesoporous carbon-covered carbonized silk fabrics for flexible electrochemical dopamine detection

Abstract:Flexible dopamine (DA) sensors were fabricated with ordered mesoporous carbon-covered carbonized silk fabrics (OMC/CSFs) as the working electrodes. These free-standing OMC/CSF electrodes were derived from the co-assembly of resol and block polymers with CSFs as substrates and subsequent carbonization of the resulting composites. As a result, a homogeneous OMC layer with vertically aligned ordered mesopore arrays grew on the surface of the CSFs, which effectively influenced the electrochemical detection behavior of OMC/CSFs towards DA. Using the flexible OMC/CSF electrodes, the electrochemical DA sensors exhibited high sensitivity, good selectivity, a large linear detection range of 0.2-80 μM, and a low limit detection of 0.11 μM, which were better than those of recently reported flexible DA sensors based on precious-metal-free electrodes.

Abstract:Dopamine (DA) is an important catecholamine neurotransmitter associated with learning, depression, addiction, and memory loss with simultaneously coordinating movement and reward-associated behavior. It is very important to design highly effective and sensitive sensors for the detection of DA. However, it remains a challenge for detecting DA to obtain selectively and rapidly sensing materials. In this work, we chose octahedral-coordinated squarate-based MOFs with dense Lewis active centers as electrode materials to investigate the electrochemical performance of dopamine oxidation. The multiple ligand functional groups in squarate-based MOFs enable noncovalent interaction with diols, amines, and phenyl groups of DA molecules through electrostatic, H-bonding, and/or π–π stacking interactions. The modified electrode exhibits a wide linear current response range between 2 μM and 400 μM for DA, and the sensor shows significant selectivity and stability. This work enriches the application library of redox-active squarate compounds and can give us a better comprehension of the design and selection of electrode materials for electrochemical sensing and even more catalysis-related research.
Fabrication of Novel Superoxide Anion Biosensor Based on 3D Interface of Mussel-Inspired Fe3O4-Mn3(PO3)2@Ni Foam.

Abstract:Preparation of high performance electrochemical biosensing interface for the sensitive and rapid detection of human metabolites is of great interest for health care and biomedical science. In this paper, based on the adhesion technique of marine mussels, we designed and prepared a novel biosensor with a micro/nano-biointerface of Fe3O4-Mn3(PO3)2@Ni foam, which offered a three dimensional (3D) living environment for real cell. The constructed biosensor with a 3D micro/nano-biointerface of Fe3O4-Mn3(PO3)2@Ni foam was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and elemental mapping. Furthermore, the electrochemical experiments by electrochemical method for detection of superoxide anion (O2•−) in situ released by cells were carried out by this biosensor we proposed. Results indicated that the 3D interface of mussel-inspired Fe3O4-Mn3(PO3)2@Ni foam offered an amicable platform for promoting cell adhesion, which was beneficial for enhancing biosensing activity. This proposed sensing platform provided high electroactivity and excellent electron transport with a lower detection limit (0.0170μM), wider linear range 0.04–2.44μM) and short diffusion distance to reaction sites. The case achieved the accurate detection of O2•− (in situ released by cells) based on the combination of mussel-inspired biomimetic adhesion technique, 3D micro/nano-biointerface construction and electrochemical biosensing technique.

Abstract:In order to solve the problem of glucose detection in medical development and meet the urgent demand for new energy storage devices, this paper proposes a new material suitable for glucose sensing and capacitive properties. The sensor was fabricated by depositing Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles onto nickel foam with integrated r-GO via the hydrothermal method, followed by the synthesis of CuO nanoparticles using electroplating. The detection range of the sensor is 0.3–11.3 mM. The sensor's sensitivity is 1000.3 μA mM −1 cm −2 , indicating its responsiveness to changes in analyte concentration. In electrochemical test systems, Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) usually represents the relative intensity of the effective current signal and the background noise, reflecting the accuracy and reliability of the measurement. When the SNR is three, the minimum detection limit is 0.431 μM, highlighting its ability to reliably detect analytes at low concentrations amidst background noise. According to electrochemical workstation tests, the sensor demonstrates robust stability. Furthermore, the electrode material proves suitable for asymmetric supercapacitor devices, when the current density is 2 Ag −1 , the specific capacitance is 660.5 Fg −1 . At the same time, we also explore the cyclic stability of the device, which can retain 92.3 % of its initial specific capacitance after 5000 cycles, showing its remarkable long-term stability. In addition, the prepared nanocomposites can also light the red LED light. The results show that the synthesized CuO/Co 3 O 4 /r-GO/NF electrode can be used for electrochemical glucose sensing and supercapacitors, and plays an important role as a multi-functional material in the fields of medical, food, electronics, transportation and energy, providing key technical support for a variety of applications.
