Abstract:A dianionic manganese(II) complex having the formula (Na 2 [Mn(HR) 4 ]·3/2H 2 O), with tetrahedral geometry, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductivity, infrared and electronic spectra, cyclic voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The cyclic voltammetric studies revealed that the complex is more stable and irreversible than the corresponding salt and ligand. The redox peak positions of the precursors and the corresponding complex gave an insight in to the transformation of the complex species from the precursors. The cyclic voltammogram of the complex moiety at different scan rates proved the generation of the redox polymeric complex species formed on glassy carbon electrode, with higher conductivity and larger surface area. The effective surface areas of these modified electrodes vary from 0.172 to 0.194 cm 2 . The presence of a complex polymer film on the electrode surface has been confirmed by significant redox process changes, as demonstrated by increase in the electroactive area of the electrode, charge transfer capacity, and anodic/cathodic peak currents at various potential values in comparison to the ligand and salt. Furthermore, the complex modified electrode provided 2.9-fold conductivity enhancement compared to the bare electrode and then validated the electrocatalytic properties of the synthesized complex film. In addition to this, the in vitro antibacterial evaluation of the ligand and the corresponding complex against two Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria revealed that the complex is more active on the bacterial strains studied than the ligand and metal salt, which is lesser than the reference antibiotic, tetracycline.
