Abstract:During the surgical process, verification of the patient's surgical information is a crucial step that directly affects the patient's safety and the smooth progress of the surgery. In 2016, the Chinese Hospital Association released the "CHA 2017 Major Measures for Patient Safety Standards," which emphasizes the importance of surgical information verification. This process mainly includes verifying the patient's identity, confirming the surgical site, and checking the general condition. 1 Any errors in surgical information can have devastating consequences for patients and hospitals. 2 This is particularly critical for surgery involving bilateral, multiple structures or multilevel sites, where clear and standardized marking of the surgical site is required before the patient enters the operating room. 3 The purpose of this practice is to prevent surgical errors caused by site confusion. Medical accidents due to surgical information errors occur not only in China but also in other countries. 4 Healthcare professionals, with the involvement of patients and their families, make clear markings on or near the surgical site to prevent the occurrence of surgical site errors. This practice not only underscores the paramount importance accorded to patient safety, but also reflects the professionalism and sense of responsibility of healthcare professionals.
