Abstract:New heterogenous catalysts based on silver and iron nanoparticles supported on titanium and zirconium dioxides have been investigated. The photocatalytic activity of these materials was evaluated in the photodegradation of ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and amoxicillin drugs. Impregnation was used as a preparation method to achieve the nanometric structure of Fe-Ag/ZrO 2 and Fe-Ag/TiO 2 catalysts. The prepared materials have been characterized using: transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, diffuse reflectance UV–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis/RD), and x-ray fluorescence. The results showed that we obtained nanometric particles based on iron and silver deposited on the surface of TiO 2 and ZrO 2 oxides. These materials have shown surprising activity in the photodegradation of the three drug molecules. Mineralization rates of 98% have been completed. Subsequently, these catalysts showed rather interesting results in the presence of a continuous system on a pilot via the photodegradation of the three organic pollutants. The second part of this work is devoted to the study of the anticorrosive activity of the prepared materials. The catalysts have shown significant resistance to corrosion in a strongly acidic medium. The corrosion-inhibiting activity reached 80% after 3 h of contact with sulfuric acid.
