Abstract:The radical cascade cyclization of vinyl tethered alkenes has become a promising tool for rapidly assembling nobenzene-fused cyclic skeletons via the cracking of alkenyl C−H bonds, but this approach has been limited to 3-Aza-1,5-dienes and five membered rings have been generated. Here, we developed a radical sulfonylation/cyclization process for unsaturated N-substituted enamides with sulfonyl chlorides to form sulfonylated nonbenzene-fused six/seven-membered rings, which involved regioselective sulfonyl radical addition to the alkene and 6/7-endo cyclization.

Abstract:A highly regioselective iodosulfonylation of allenes in the presence of CuI and 1,10-phenanthroline has been developed for the synthesis of various useful ( E)-α-iodomethyl vinylsulfones in moderate to excellent yields. This practical reaction is fast, operationally simple, and in particular, proceeds under very mild conditions to afford the target products with high regio- and stereoselectivity. The selectivity was illustrated by a conceptual DFT analysis.

Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:An efficient copper-catalyzed regio- and chemoselective multicomponent reaction of 1,6-enynes, diselenides, DABCO center dot(SO2)(2) and cycloketone oxime esters is described. Under mild conditions, this protocol exhibits a broad substrate scope and high functional group compatibility, enabling rapid access to cyanoalkylsulfonylated pyrrolidines in moderate to good yields. This radical-triggered cyclization reaction allows the formation of four new bonds including the C-SO2, C-C and C-Se bonds in a single step. A plausible mechanism is proposed on the basis of control experiments, and a cyanoalkylsulfonyl radical species is involved during the reaction process.

Abstract:By employing CuOAc as the catalyst, we realize a four-component reaction of 1,3-enynes, diselenides, DABCO·(SO2)2, and cycloketone oxime esters, providing facile access to diverse cyanoalkylsulfonylated allenyl selenides in moderate to good yields. This reaction features high functional group tolerance and a broad substrate scope, enabling the regioselective, sequential formation of C-SO2 and C-Se bonds under mild reaction conditions. Moreover, the utility of this methodology is further illustrated through the late-stage functionalization of drug-based molecules.

Abstract:Because of the inherent difficulty in differentiating two olefins, the development of metal-catalyzed asymmetric cyclization of 1,6-dienes remains challenging. Herein, we describe the first rhodium(III)-catalyzed asymmetric borylative cyclization of cyclohexadienone-tethered mono-, 1,1di-, and (E)-1,2-disubstituted alkenes (1,6-dienes), affording optically pure cis-bicyclic skeletons bearing three or four contiguous stereocenters with high yields (25-93%), and excellent diastereoselectivities (>20:1 dr) and enantioselectivities (90-99% ee). This mild catalytic approach is generally compatible with a wide range of functional groups, which allows several facile conversions of the cyclization products. Furthermore, on the basis of our SAESI-MS experiment and computational study, a Rh(I)/(III) catalytic cycle is proposed in this tandem reaction, and the Rh(I) active species catalyzes the overall transformation via sequential oxidative addition of B(2)pin(2), olefin insertion, cyclizing conjugate addition, and reductive elimination. The irreversible conjugate addition determines the overall regioselectivity of borylative cyclization, and the ring strain favors the formation of 5,6-bicyclic structure. This highlights the control of ring strain in diene cyclizations, which provides a useful basis for future reaction designs.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed regioselective Markovnikov 3,4-hydrosilylation of 2-substituted 1,3-dienes has been accomplished. A wide range of 2-substituted 1,3-dienes and trihydrosilanes are compatible under the optimal conditions. The bisphosphine ligand with a rigid backbone provides the Markovnikov 3,4-hydrosilylation product in better yield and selectivity. Besides, the synthetic utilities of the allylsilanes also were demonstrated by their flexible derivatizations.

Abstract:A simple and low-cost tandem sulfonylation/cyclization of 1,5-diene, aryldiazonium salt, and DABCO·(SO2)2 is disclosed. This base-promoted multicomponent reaction can provide a “green” and economic synthesis of sulfonylated pyrrolidones under transition-metal-free and moisture/oxygen-insensitive reaction conditions, thus delivering a wide range of sulfonylated pyrrolidones in moderate to high yields with excellent functional group compatibility. A plausible mechanism involving a radical process is proposed, which demonstrates highly chemoselective trapping of the aryl radical with “SO2” species, and a regioselective sulfonylation/cyclization protocol in this reaction.

Abstract:Copper-catalyzed conjugate protosilylation reaction of alpha,beta-unsaturated sulfonyl ketimines has been developed. The corresponding E- and Z-stereoselective functionalized allylsilane products were obtained in good yields respectively via tuning the ligands used in the reactions. Furthermore, the highly enantioselective (E)-beta-tosylamine-substituted allylsilanes were also achieved in the presence of chiral Pybox ligand. And the corresponding products could be easily transformed into other useful synthons.

Abstract:This work reports a Cu‐catalyzed coupling technique for synthesizing (E)‐dienyl sulfones and β‐chlorosulfones from 1‐arylbutadienes and styrenes, respectively. By employing easily available and inexpensive reagents, this method enables the synthesis of a diverse array of dienyl sulfones and β‐chlorosulfones with excellent functional group tolerance under base‐ and oxidant‐free conditions. It also proves versatile for the late‐stage functionalization of drug molecules and the scale‐up reactions. The method showcases notable selectivity, gentle reaction conditions, and compatibility with various functional groups as demonstrated through 66 examples with excellent display of regioselectivity.

Abstract:Spiro rings such as spiroxindoles and spiroindanones are core skeletons in many pharmaceutically active molecules and natural products. Herein, we developed a copper-catalyzed cascade silylation-cyclization reactions of 1,6-diynes which enabled the rapid construction of silyl-functionalized spirocyclic compounds. A variety of racemic and optical pure spirocyclic oxindoles, indanone, quinolinone, and tetralone derivatives were obtained in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities and high stereoselectivities.

Abstract:This work demonstrates regio- and enantioselective intermolecular three-component oxysulfenylations of 1,3-dienes with alcohols, phenols, acids, and water as O-nucleophiles. These reactions were enabled by the cooperative catalysis of chiral sulfide and phosphoric acid. Various useful sulfur-containing allylic ethers, allylic esters, and allylic alcohols were readily obtained in moderate to excellent yields with high to excellent enantioselectivities and excellent regioselectivities. This protocol provides high chemo-, regio-, and enantioselectivities together with a broad scope and good functional group compatibility.
