Effects of Glucocorticoids in Treatment of Tuberculous Meningitis

Abstract:Objective To explore the application of glucocorticoids in the treatment of tuberculous meningitis,improve the cure rate and reduce the adverse outcome.Methods Ten patients with tuberculous meningitis treated for full 12 months recent five years were enrolled in this study.The condition on admission,dose and course of treatment with glucocorticoids,recovery and clinical outcomes were analyzed retrospectively.Results After confirmed diagnosis,all of 10 patients were given the formal anti-tuberculosis treatment,and glucocorticoid was simultaneously administered.After the course of 12 months of anti-TB treatment,most patients recovered well except two with mild disability.Conclusion The early diagnosis and regular chemotherapy is the key of treating the tuberculous meningitis.The rational and early use of glucocorticoids can alleviate the symptoms obviously,improve the cure rate and reduce complications.
