Abstract:This paper dedicates itself to filling the gap in reliable data-driven diagnoses through uncertainty quantification for different rotor fault identifications. Three signal-processing techniques were studied with a synthetic dataset to feed the Bayesian neural networks (BNNs). The signal-processing methods used were the EMD (empirical mode decomposition), the full spectrum transform, and the continuous wavelet transform. The simulated data were used to train the models to identify unbalance, misalignment, bowing, and crack. During the creation and analysis of the Bayesian models, there was a need to evaluate the models regarding uncertainty between the classes. Then, a new metric was created: the mean uncertainty confusion matrix. The new metric enabled the analysis of the model's operating mechanism in the separation zone, concluding that the most robust model, in terms of classification mechanism, resilience to noise, and uncertainty expression, was created from the full spectrum transform features. Finally, a BNN fed by wavelet images was trained to classify faults in different machines with different types of ball bearings using the SCA bearing data set and evaluated by the mean uncertainty confusion matrix, validating the technique in a real-world situation.
