Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), such as MIL-125(Ti), are advanced photocatalytic materials due to their tunable compositions and functionalities. However, their practical application in photocatalysis is often limited by their wide bandgap and the inherent structural instability. This study presents a strategy to improve the photocatalytic performance of MIL-125(Ti) by hydrothermal reaction combined with an in-situ decomposition to generate nano TiO2, creating a composite with g-C3N5 nanosheets. The obtained composite exhibited a rate constant of 0.00122 min(-1) mg(-1) for the degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride under visible light irradiation, which is 24.4 and 20.3 times that of g-C3N5 and MIL-125(Ti), respectively. Characterization results indicated the formation of an effective composite structure that improved the separation efficiency of photogenerated carriers and promoted the generation of reactive oxygen species. The in-situ generated TiO2 within the MIL-125(Ti)/gC(3)N(5) composite during the preparation and photocatalysis processes not only compensated for the structural damage to the original MIL-125(Ti) but also significantly enhanced its degradation performance under visible light. The recyclability and stability of the composite material were also demonstrated, highlighting its potential for practical photocatalytic applications.

Abstract:TiO 2 /Fe 2 O 3 nanocomposite was fabricated by a hydrolysis-precipitation approach, with TiCl 4 as precursor and Fe 2 O 3 as support. The crystal phase, diameter and morphology of the sample particle were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscope. The results show that the samples are composed of haematite and rutile. The morphology and diameter of rutile particle, coating effect and weight percentages of haematite and rutile are related to the preparing temperature and molar ratio of Fe/Ti. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared photocatalyst was estimated in an aqueous solution at ambient temperature of 303K. The results imply that the photocatalytic activity of the sample is higher than that of phase pure rutile, related to Fe/Ti molar ratio and its preparing temperature. These results can be attribute to the microsturcture of the sample. A synergistic effect exists between titania and haematite in the nanocomposite.

Abstract:Dye wastewater effective treatment is vital and necessary for environmental projection. In current work, a novel and high-efficiency photocatalyst B-TiO2/MIL-100(Fe) composite was proposed and synthesized successfully by a simple co-precipitation method. Compared with the monomer B-TiO2, the photocatalytic performance of the composite was enhanced apparently under simulation solar irradiation. An increment in photocatalytic activity was attributed to the fact that B-TiO2/MIL-100(Fe) not only improved the photocatalytic efficiency of B-TiO2, but also promoted the photo-Fenton reaction of MIL-100(Fe). Besides, the efficiency of methylene blue (MB) mineralization was slightly lower than photocatalytic efficiency, the value of which was over 77.25%.

Abstract:The development of novel photocatalysts with high photocatalytic ability is important in the field of photocatalytic degradation and transformation. In this work, we combined ilmenite phase FeTiO3 and TiO2 nanoparticles (P25) through a cross-linking method to produce novel hexagonal FeTiO3/TiO2 composites coated by nanosized TiO2 particles. Their morphology, crystallinity, and light absorption ability were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS) analyses, respectively. The heterojunction effect between FeTiO3 and TiO2 could promote the spatial separation of photogenerated electrons and holes, gave the FeTiO3/TiO2 composites strong oxidizing ability, and increased absorption of Xe lamp light. When used as photocatalysts toward phenolic compounds and dyes, the 5% FeTiO3/TiO2 composite showed the highest photocatalytic activity. The intermediate product of 4-chlorophenol degradation was also characterized, and the photocatalytic mechanism was proposed. The results indicated that the as-prepared FeTiO3/TiO2 composite materials show promise as a photocatalyst for environmental remediation, which could be applied to water pollution control.

Abstract:Single‐layer MXene‐coated hollow Fe2O3 nanocube catalyst (M‐Fe2O3@MXene) is fabricated via an electrostatic and Fe−O−Ti bonding self‐assembly method. Experiments and theoretical calculations imply that interfacial Fe−O−Ti bonding increases the photocatalytic CO2 reduction (p‐CO2RR) activity by accelerating charge transfer and separation and regulating electronic property of Fe sites. This catalyst outperforms previous reports using Fe‐based photocatalysts with a CO production rate of 240 μmol g−1 h−1. Visible light‐driven photocatalytic CO2 reduction (CO2RR) offers a sustainable and promising solution to environmental and energy challenges. However, the design of efficient photocatalysts is hindered by poor interface interactions in heterojunctions and a limited understanding of reaction kinetics. A modified Fe2O3 photocatalyst, M‐Fe2O3@MXene, is introduced featuring KH‐550‐modified M‐Fe2O3 hollow nanocubes coated with MXene, constructed via an electrostatic and Fe−O−Ti bonding self‐assembly method. This design achieves an unprecedented CO production rate of 240 μmol g−1 h−1 among non‐noble metal catalysts (8.6 folds vs Fe2O3). The Fe−O−Ti sites enhance *COOH intermediate formation and CO production through higher electron deficiency of Fe3+ and rapid charge transfer. This study offers new insights on the use of functional metal oxides and high‐quality Mxene layers to design efficient metal oxide‐based photocatalysts.

Synthesis of BiOCl/TiO2 Heterostructure Composites and Their Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity

Abstract:The BiOCl/TiO2 heterojunction photocatalysts with varying weight ratio were synthesized through a modified sol-gel method. The prepared photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), N-2 adsorption-desorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), photoluminescence (PL) and UV-visible diffused reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS). The photocatalytic activities of the catalysts were evaluated using rhodamine B, tetracycline hydrochloride and formaldehyde as the target pollutants. The characterization results revealed that the BiOCl/TiO2 composite photocatalyst exhibited the higher visible-light-responsive photocatalytic performance than pure BiOCl and TiO2. The results showed that the BiOCl/TiO2 with mass ratio of 70% exhibited the optimal photocatalytic performance. The rate constant of it for rhodamine B degradation is around 11 times as high as that of the pure BiOCl and 46 times than pure TiO2. The enhanced photoactivity should be attributed to the formation of heterojunction between BiOCl and TiO2. The BiOCl/TiO2 hybrid photocatalyst exhibited higher surface area, smaller crystallite size, stronger visible light absorption and improved charge separation efficiency. The excellent activity reveals that BiOCl/TiO2 heterojunction is a promising visible-light-responsive photocatalyst. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The coexistence of pollutants presents a great challenge to the implementation of photocatalysts. In this work, a novel MIL-101(Fe)/TiO2 composite prepared by in situ growth of MIL-101(Fe) on TiO2 was developed for the synergetic oxidation of MC-LR and Cr(VI) reduction. The heterojunction material shows elevated photocatalytic behavior under ultraviolet compared with the unary pollutant system. Furthermore, quenching experiments and electron spin resonance confirm that the enhanced photodegradation behavior is related to the synergistic effect between the photocatalytic reduction and oxidation process, in which MC-LR consumes the holes and Cr(VI) captures electrons, followed by efficient charge separation through the conventional double-transfer mechanism between MIL-101(Fe) and TiO2. This investigation provides a deeper understanding of the construction of MOFs/semiconductor heterojunctions for the pollutants removal in multi-component contaminants system.

Abstract:Photocatalysis provides a cost effective method for both renewable energy synthesis and environmental purification. Photocatalytic activity is dominated by the material design strategy and synthesis methods. Here, for the first time, we report very mild and effective photo-deposition procedures for the synthesis of novel Fe2 O3 -TiO2 nanocomposites. Their photocatalytic activities have been found to be dramatically enhanced for both contaminant decomposition and photoelectrochemical water splitting. When used to decompose a model contaminant herbicide, 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D), monitored by both UV/Vis and total organic carbon (TOC) analysis, 10% Fe-TiO2 -H2 O displayed a remarkable enhancement of more than 200 % in the kinetics of complete mineralisation in comparison to the commercial material P25 TiO2 photocatalyst. Furthermore, the photocurrent is nearly double that of P25. The mechanism for this improvement in activity was determined using density functional theory (DFT) and photoluminescence. These approaches ultimately reveal that the photoelectron transfer is from TiO2 to Fe2 O3 . This favours O2 reduction which is the rate-determining step in photocatalytic environmental purification. This in situ charge separation also allows for facile migration of holes from the valence band of TiO2 to the surface for the expected oxidation reactions, leading to higher photocurrent and better photocatalytic activity.

Abstract:Series TiO2/MIL-125 core-shell composites were fabricated from MIL-125 via in-situ post-solvothermal method. The composites composed of TiO2 as shell and MIL-125 as core demonstrated some advantages like abundant linker defects, mesoporous structure and unsaturated titanium-oxo clusters, which enabled it to be a desired photocatalyst. The photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction performances of as-prepared TiO2/MIL-125 composites with different treatment times were evaluated under Xe lamp irradiation. The results indicated that optimal marigold-flower-like MT-2 (TiO2/MIL-125 composite produced by treating MIL-125 for 2 h) exhibited superior photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction activity than those of pristine MIL-125 precursor, TiO2/MIL-125 composites produced by treating MIL-125 for 1 h, and the completely derived TiO2. The TiO2 nanosheet formed from the outer-to-inner loss of organic ligands in the MIL-125 precursor can boost the separation efficiency of photo-induced carriers. Within this work, the influence of operation factors including pH values, foreign ions and organic acids with small molecular weight on photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction were explored. The apparent quantum efficiency of optimal MT-2 was calculated under different monochromatic light. As well, the possible mechanism of photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction over MT-2 was proposed and confirmed by electrochemical determination, active species trapping experiments and electron spin resonance analyses.

Abstract:The photocatalytic (PC) behavior of CeO2-TiO2 hollow composites with different heterojunction structures are investigated. The composites are fabricated by combining TiO2 hollow spheres and CeO2 nanoparticles with changing the ratio between Ce and Ti. High-resolution microscopic and spectroscopic analysis demonstrates that three types of cerium-bearing structures form on the surface of the titania. The first involves Ce atoms adsorbed onto the surface of TiO2 particles. The second occurs with small CeO2 particles, approximate to 2 nm in size, resulting from the aggregation of the adsorbed Ce atoms, thus forming a CeO2-TiO2 heterojunction. The last type is obtained through the growth of the CeO2 particles up to 10 nm in size. All the CeO2-TiO2 composites exhibit enhanced photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange under visible light irradiation compared to mere CeO2 or TiO2 nanoparticles. The synergistic effect of these three structures leads to a competition between size effects and interface interactions, which affects the band alignment, the number of defects, and, consequently, the PC activity. The highest PC reaction rate constant under visible light reaches up to 0.017 min(-1) and is achieved when the CeO2 nanoparticle size is smaller than its Debye length.
Ultrathin carbon-coated Fe-TiO 2-x nanostructures for enhanced photocatalysis under visible-light irradiation

Abstract:Extending solar-light harvesting and improving charge separation are contributing to high-performance semiconductor photocatalysis. In this work, ultrathin carbon-coated Fe-TiO 2-x nanostructures were prepared via one-pot calcination strategy for tetracycline degradation under visible light. The experimental results showed that the carbon-coated Fe-TiO 2-x composites displayed remarkably enhanced visible-light harvesting, and the forbidden band width drops to 2.60 eV. In addition, the transient photocurrent responses and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy indicated the highest charge separation and lowest interfacial migration resistance of carbon-coated Fe-TiO 2-x -3% composite, and the fluorescence emission spectroscopy and linear sweep voltammetry curves also supported these above findings. The carbon-coated Fe-TiO 2-x -3% sample showed the best photocatalytic performance with a rate constant of 0.02512 min −1 towards tetracycline degradation, approximately 3.02 times that of commercial TiO 2 , mainly attributed to the formation of Fe doping, oxygen vacancies, and relatively high surface areas.

Abstract:The FeOOH/TiO2 composite film material was successfully prepared on the surface of TiO2 nanoarray (TNR) by photoelectric deposition method. The phase composition, microscopic morphology and light absorption of the FeOOH/TiO2 composite film were analyzed by XRD, XPS, SEM, UV–Vis DRS. The photocatalytic performance was evaluated in photocatalytic degradation of MO. Finally, the mechanism of the photocatalytic degradation of the dye on the FeOOH/TiO2 composite film was discussed. Compared with TNR, the FeOOH/TiO2 composite film can effectively improve the migration efficiency of photo-generated carriers due to its heterojunction and suitable energy band structure, and its photoresponse range has been successfully extended to 538 nm. The composite film material exhibits excellent photocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic efficiency of the FeOOH/TiO2 composite film is 32.7% higher than that of the unmodified TiO2 sample.

Abstract:Nano TiO2/Fe3O4 composite particles with different molar ratios of TiO2 to Fe3O4 were prepared via sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and vibration sample magnetometry were used to characterize the TiO2/Fe3O4 particles. The photocatalytic activity of the particles was tested by degrading methyl blue solution under UV illumination (254 nm). The results indicate that with the content of TiO2 increasing, the photocatalytic activity of the composite particles enhances, while the magnetism of the particles decreases. When the molar ratio of TiO2 to Fe3O4 is about 8, both the photocatalytic activity and magnetism of the TiO2/Fe3O4 particles are relatively high, and their photocatalytic activity remains well after repeated use.

Abstract:For the sake of improving the photocatalytic performance of TiO2, we prepared the B/Ag/Fe tridoped TiO2 films on common glass and stone substrates by the sol–gel method. In this work, the optical absorption, recombination of photogenerated electrons (e−) and holes (h[Formula: see text]), crystal types, thermal stability, composition, specific surface area and photocatalytic activity of the modified TiO2 films were investigated. The results indicated that B/Ag/Fe tridoping not only enhanced the absorption of visible light by TiO2, but inhibited the recombination of electron–hole (e−/h[Formula: see text]) pairs. The tridoping also promoted the formation of anatase and prevented the transformation of anatase to rutile at high temperature. The composite TiO2 has a large specific surface area, about three times that of pure TiO2. The photocatalytic activity of the TiO2 films were evaluated by methyl green (MG) and formaldehyde degradation. In all samples, the B/Ag/Fe tridoped TiO2 film exhibited the highest degradation rate of MG under both ultraviolet and visible light irradiation. The improvement of photocatalytic performance of TiO2 films is due to the synergistic effect of the B/Ag/Fe tridoping, which enhances the absorption of visible light and prolongs the lifetime of e−/h[Formula: see text] pairs and facilitates transfer of interface charge.
Enhanced photocatalytic activity of ZnO microflowers by a trace amount of Ti3C2 MXene

Abstract:As a novel metal compound with a narrow bandgap and excellent conductivity, two-dimensional (2D) layered Ti3C2 MXene has received growing attention from researchers. In this work, microflower-like ZnO/Ti3C2 composite photocatalysts were prepared by a one-pot method and characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and XPS techniques. The photocatalytic performances of the ZnO/Ti3C2 photocatalysts were evaluated by the degradation of methyl orange (MO) under UV–visible light irradiation. The photocatalytic activity of ZnO was obviously enhanced with a trace amount of Ti3C2. The pseudo-first-order rate constants of the ZnO/Ti3C2-0.05 and ZnO/Ti3C2-0.5 with Ti3C2 mass percentages of 0.041% and 0.41%, respectively, were 2.9 and 4.2 times higher than that of the ZnO. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of ZnO/Ti3C2 composite was due to the increased transfer of photo-generated charge carriers. Furthermore, the ZnO/Ti3C2-0.5 composite also showed good stability, the degradation efficiency of MO was still maintained 99% even after 10-cycle of reutilization. ZnO/Ti3C2 and other Ti3C2-containing composites may have potiential application in wastewater treatment and environment remediation.

Abstract:Fe-based MOFs (Fe-MOFs) are excellent photocatalysts and have synergy well with Fenton reagents relative to other MOFs. In this work, a series of uniformly covered NH2-Fe-MIL-88B@TpPa-1-COF composites were synthesized using an in-situ anchoring growth strategy, which used F127 as functional molecule to decorate NH2-Fe-MIL-88B nanoparticles to eliminate their surface electrostatic repulsion with Tp molecules during the subsequent coating procedure. Meanwhile, the -NH2 groups in the skeleton of NH2-Fe-MIL-88B could also be used as anchors to covalently connect TpPa-1-COF shell and migration channels for effective charge transfer. This uniformly covered core–shell structure would endow these composites with much more contact area and imine bond linkage between the Fe-MOFs core and COFs shell. Compared with the random packing structure, the uniformly covered Fe-MOF@COF-3 composite possessed a higher proportion of Fe2+ to Fe3+. As a result, the optimized Fe-MOF@COF-3 catalyst could achieve the highest photo-Fenton degradation efficiency of 93.9% for tetracycline hydrochloride (TC⋅HCl), which was much higher than 54.8% of pure NH2-Fe-MIL-88B. In addition, the uniform TpPa-1-COF shell could further effectively enhance the stability of NH2-Fe-MIL-88B by protecting Fe ions from leaching, and the toxicity of the water samples treated with our photo-Fenton degradation process declined obviously. All these merits will endow Fe-MOF@COF-3 photo-Fenton catalyst great potential application value as in the field of environmental governance.

Abstract:Iron-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with low cost and excellent photocatalytic potential are extremely attractive in the field of energy utilization and environmental remediation. In this study, a novel In2S3/MIL-100(Fe) photocatalyst was successfully synthesized by a facile solvothermal method for the first time. Several technologies (such as X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) were used to characterize the as-obtained samples and demonstrate the successful combination of MIL-100(Fe) and In2S3. Experimental results showed that 18% of tetracycline (TC) was adsorbed under dark condition and another 70% of TC was degraded under visible-light irradiation when treating 100 mL of TC solution (10 mg/L) with 30 mg of In2S3/MIL-100(Fe) composites. The corresponding TC removal efficiency was almost 1.9 and 1.6 times higher than that of pure MIL-100(Fe) and In2S3, respectively. The mechanism investigations revealed that the heterojunction composite exhibited superior charge transfer than either MIL-100(Fe) or In2S3, and this caused more efficient separation of electron-hole pairs. As a result, more radicals and holes were generated in the composite, leading to better photocatalytic performance. This work highlights the powerful combination of MOFs and semiconductor, which is a promising approach to fabricate heterojunction photocatalyst for wastewater purification.

Abstract:As a Kind of Most Common Used Photocatalyst, TiO 2 Nanomaterials Existing Disadvantages on Low Light Energy Utilization in Visible Light Range and Difficulty on Recycle. in Our Study, Different Proportions of Fe 3 + and Fe 2 + Ion Were Doped with Nano-Ti0 2 Particles in Structure of Rutile Type through Method of Chemical Precipitation. the Result Showed that Nano-Composites Formed by TiO 2 Coexist with Fe 3 O 4 , with the Average Size of the Composite Particles Nearly 20 Nm. the Photo-Catalyst Performances of the Composite Have Improved Largely, and so the Relatively Optimized Preparation Conditions Were Presented.
