Abstract:As an emerging technology and business paradigm, Cloud Computing has taken commercial computing by storm. Cloud computing platforms provide easy access to a company’s high-performance computing and storage infrastructure through web services. With cloud computing, the aim is to hide the complexity of IT infrastructure management from its users. At the same time, cloud computing platforms provide massive scalability, 99.999% reliability, high performance, and specifiable configurability. These capabilities are provided at relatively low costs compared to dedicated infrastructures. This article gives a quick introduction to cloud storage. It covers the key technologies in Cloud Computing and Cloud Storage, several different types of clouds services, and describes the advantages and challenges of Cloud Storage after the introduction of the Cloud Storage reference model.

Abstract:As a model of supercomputing based on virtualization,cloud computing provided the IaaS、PaaS、SaaS services via Internet,which will integrate all the large-scale and extensible distributed computing resources such as computing、storage、data and application for cooperative work.It's an entirely new Internet application mode and will be the leading way to access services and information in the near future.With consideration of the status of mixed concepts,a reference definition was put forward after the introduction of the cloud computing basic concept,and then its difference with distributed computing,grid computing,parallel computing and utility computing were analyzed.In the end,the case of mainstream cloud computing platforms were introduced in helping to profound understand what's the cloud computing form platform view.

Abstract:Despite the popularity of platforms as a source of innovation and the growing market presence of Software as Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) continues to face adoption challenges among software firms. Surprisingly, although this segment of cloud computing technology was first introduced in the mid-2000s and PaaS offerings have proliferated on the market since then, expectations of PaaS have not yet been realized. An examination of the challenges and complexities of PaaS is discussed, and a model with supporting propositions is presented, building on the latest IS literature and the success of other software development initiatives such as Open Source (OS). These propositions include multi-sidedness, openness, scalability, revenue-sharing and proactive governance. Finally, we discuss an approach to operationalizing the model moving forward.

Abstract:The emergence of virtualized computing and converged networks has the potential to revolutionize industrial automation systems, offering unprecedented levels of flexibility and scalability that were previously unattainable with traditional infrastructure. Therefore, cloud-fog automation (CFA) platforms are becoming key players not only in coordinating the production task management in upper-layer applications but also in handling real-time control and monitoring by the edge devices. In this article, we discuss how cloud/fog-based virtualization and converged communication networks can allow for flexible deployment of automation use cases and evaluate the impacts introduced by the less deterministic infrastructure from the perspective of control. Four representative use cases are studied using our in-house developed CFA platform to demonstrate the smart coordination of automation in a variety of real-life prototypes. Moreover, the capabilities of the commercial off-the-shelf virtualized computing and converged networks are characterized, which confirms the CFA platform as an essential part of the future industrial infrastructure for hosting heterogenous control applications is not a “daydream”.

Abstract:Compute infrastructure hosted by a cloud provider allows an application to scale without limit. The application developer no longer needs to worry about the up-front investment in a server farm provisioned for a worst-case load scenario. However, managing cloud deployments requires a sophisticated framework that can autoscale the infrastructure and guarantee the up-time of running container images. This paper surveys existing research addressing the management and orchestration of cloud deployments as well as the modelling framework to abstract away the low-level details of the host infrastructure. We investigate blockchain distributed ledgers, quantum computing and Internet of Things application stacks to show how they can utilize cloud deployments.

Abstract:Cloud Computing, the long-held dream of computing as a utility, has the potential to transform a large part of the IT industry, making software even more attractive as a service and shaping the way IT hardware is designed and purchased. Developers with innovative ideas for new Internet services no longer require the large capital outlays in hardware to deploy their service or the human expense to operate it. They need not be concerned about overprovisioning for a service whose popularity does not meet their predictions, thus wasting costly resources, or underprovisioning for one that becomes wildly popular, thus missing potential customers and revenue. Moreover, companies with large batch-oriented tasks can get results as quickly as their programs can scale, since using 1000 servers for one hour costs no more than using one server for 1000 hours. This elasticity of resources, without paying a premium for large scale, is unprecedented in the history of IT. Cloud Computing refers to both the applications delivered as services over the Internet and the hardware and systems software in the datacenters that provide those services. The services themselves have long been referred to as Software as a Service (SaaS). The datacenter hardware and software is what we will call a Cloud. When a Cloud is made available in a pay-as-you-go manner to the general public, we call it a Public Cloud; the service being sold is Utility Computing. We use the term Private Cloud to refer to internal datacenters of a business or other organization, not made available to the general public. Thus, Cloud Computing is the sum of SaaS and Utility Computing, but does not include Private Clouds. People can be users or providers of SaaS, or users or providers of Utility Computing. We focus on SaaS Providers (Cloud Users) and Cloud Providers, which have received less attention than SaaS Users. From a hardware point of view, three aspects are new in Cloud Computing.

Abstract:Cloud computing has draw tremendous attentions from all levels of business and IT industries. Companies like Salesforce and Amazon are on the center of the stage and seem to have demonstrated a successful story on cloud computing. All hardware vendors, including HP and Dell are force to jump on the cloud computing bandwagon as well as enterprise software players, like Microsoft, IBM, Oracle and SAP, are also rush into the seizing battle of this new wave of opportunities. However, is there really an opportunity for new comers, and if so, what is it? Or it is just the same old IT challenges but need to be dealt within a new context by existing vendors? For research community, what are the challenging areas need to be addressed in order to deliver practical values on cloud computing? In this talk, let’s step back from the cloud and review the essential issues when we pursue the cloud computing.

Abstract:Multi-cloud computing is a promising paradigm to support very large scale world wide distributed applications. Multi-cloud computing is the usage of multiple, independent cloud environments, which assumed no priori agreement between cloud providers or third party. However, multi-cloud computing has to face several key challenges such as portability, provisioning, elasticity, and high availability. Developers will not only have to deploy applications to a specific cloud, but will also have to consider application portability from one cloud to another, and to deploy distributed applications spanning multiple clouds. This article presents soCloud a service-oriented component-based Platform as a Service for managing portability, elasticity, provisioning, and high availability across multiple clouds. soCloud is based on the OASIS Service Component Architecture standard in order to address portability. soCloud provides services for managing provisioning, elasticity, and high availability across multiple clouds. soCloud has been deployed and evaluated on top of ten existing cloud providers: Windows Azure, DELL KACE, Amazon EC2, CloudBees, OpenShift, dotCloud, Jelastic, Heroku, Appfog, and an Eucalyptus private cloud.

Abstract:This keynote paper: presents a 21st century vision of computing; identifies various computing paradigms promising to deliver the vision of computing utilities; defines Cloud computing and provides the architecture for creating market-oriented Clouds by leveraging technologies such as VMs; provides thoughts on market-based resource management strategies that encompass both customer-driven service management and computational risk management to sustain SLA-oriented resource allocation; presents some representative Cloud platforms especially those developed in industries along with our current work towards realising market-oriented resource allocation of Clouds by leveraging the 3rd generation Aneka enterprise Grid technology; reveals our early thoughts on interconnecting Clouds for dynamically creating an atmospheric computing environment along with pointers to future community research; and concludes with the need for convergence of competing IT paradigms for delivering our 21 st century vision.

Abstract:Cloud Computing provides an abstraction layer between computing resource and its technical execution details, such as its servers, databases, and networks, in turn enabling resources to be used on demand while avoiding efforts in organization management. However, without Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), organizations will find it almost impossible to reach the cloud.SOA, an elastic, modular approach to distributing IT services, is an essential foundation for emerging technologies like cloud. SOA provides significant advantages over current IT architectures. While it depresses costs, its main benefit is the improvement in swiftness that it provides to organizations, enabling them to respond to the increasing rate of change occurring in nearly every business around the world. Gradually, Cloud Computing and SOA are assuming more noticeable roles in large organizations for the purpose of operational efficiency and cost reduction. These technologies already left behind the status of emergent technologies to consolidate as mature and upheld technologies. It is evident that a growing adoption of cloud platforms and service-oriented architectures is taking place in all market segments. Conversely, little is said, in fact, as SOA and cloud computing are related. Are SOA and Cloud computing approaches complementary to each other, or should they be used separately? Abstract:Cloud computing can be defined as the use of new or existing computing hardware and virtualization technologies to form a shared infrastructure that enables web-based value added services. The three predominant service models are infrastructure, platform, and software-as-a-service. Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) can be defined as the use of servers, storage, and virtualization to enable utility like services for users. Security is a big concern within IaaS, especially considering that the rest of the cloud service models run on top of the infrastructure and related layers. Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) providers offer access to APls, programming languages and development middleware which allows subscribers to develop custom applications without installing or configuring the development environment. Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) gives subscribed or pay-per-use users access to software or services which reside in the cloud and not on the user's device. Understanding the cloud service models is critical in determining if cloud services or hosting are an appropriate business solution, and if so, which model best balances the level of control required versus reduced hardware, configuration, and maintenance costs. Cloud computing offers many benefits to organizations; it has enabled collaboration amongst disparate communities and workgroups, and has overcome challenges that have plagued existing business solutions. However, the security, privacy, and integrity of the cloud are of prime importance and there are many challenges that exist. At the present time there seems to be a lot of momentum behind the adoption of cloud computing despite these. This may simply be a trend, an indication that society truly wants their data to be available whenever from anywhere, or a sign that few understand the associated risks.

Abstract:Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) is the Cloud area concentrating the major growth in the last years in terms of adoption and market share. At the same time Cloud models are evolving towards Hybrid Clouds through the consideration of service expansion across a diversity of Cloud offerings. So far, the majority of multi-cloud approaches have explored IaaS layer, neglecting the rest of the Cloud stack. This limits enterprises to enjoy the benefits of an agile, automated and adaptable infrastructure though flexibility provided by PaaS multi-cloud. This paper presents and compares results of two research projects addressing PaaS multi-cloud architectures: ASCETiC and SeaClouds.

In this way the cloud market is estimated be likely to emerge at a remarkable rate. Under the whole cloud umbrella, PaaS seems to have a relatively small market share. However, it is expected to offer much more as it is compared with its counterparts SaaS and IaaS. This paper is aimed to assess and analyze the future of PaaS technology. Year 2018 named as 'the year of PaaS'. It means that PaaS technology has established strong roots and ready to hit the market with better technology services. Abstract:Cloud Computing is a versatile technology that can support a broad-spectrum of applications. The low cost of cloud computing and its dynamic scaling renders it an innovation driver for small companies, particularly in the developing world. Cloud deployed enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain management applications (SCM), customer relationship management (CRM) applications, medical applications, business applications and mobile applications have potential to reach millions of users. In this paper, we explore the different concepts involved in cloud computing and we also examine clouds from technical aspects. We highlight some of the opportunities in cloud computing underlining the importance of clouds showing why that technology must succeed and we have provided additional cloud computing problems that businesses may need to address. Finally, we discuss some of the issues that this area should deal with.

Abstract:Cloud Computing is a model of service delivery and access where dynamically scalable and virtualized resources are provided as a service over the Internet. This model creates a new horizon of opportunity for enterprises. It introduces new operating and business models that allow customers to pay for the resources they effectively use, instead of making heavy upfront investments. The biggest challenge in Cloud Computing is the lack of a de facto standard or single architectural method, which can meet the requirements of an enterprise cloud approach. In this paper, we explore the architectural features of Cloud Computing and classify them according to the requirements of end-users, enterprises that use the cloud as a platform, and cloud providers themselves. We show that several architectural features will play a major role in the adoption of the Cloud Computing paradigm as a mainstream commodity in the enterprise world. This paper also provides key guidelines to software architects and Cloud Computing application developers for creating future architectures.

Abstract:Software-as-a-service (SaaS) has received significant attention recently as one of three principal components of cloud computing, and it often deals with applications that run on top of a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) that in turn runs on top of infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS). This paper provides an overview of SaaS including its architecture and major technical issues such as customization, multi-tenancy architecture, redundancy and recovery mechanisms, and scalability. Specifically, a SaaS system can have architecture relating to a database-oriented approach, middleware-oriented approach, service-oriented approach, or PaaS-oriented approach. Various SaaS customization strategies can be used from light customization with manual coding to heavy customization where the SaaS system and its underlying PaaS systems are customized together. Multi-tenancy architecture is an important feature of a SaaS and various trade-offs including security isolation, performance, and engineering effort need to be considered. It is important for a SaaS system to have multi-level redundancy and recovery mechanisms, and the SaaS system needs to coordinate these with the underlying PaaS system. Finally, SaaS scalability mechanisms include a multi-level architecture with load balancers, automated data migration, and software design strategies.

The Making of Cloud Applications An Empirical Study on Software Development for the Cloud

Abstract:Cloud computing is gaining more and more traction as a deployment and provisioning model for software. While a large body of research already covers how to optimally operate a cloud system, we still lack insights into how professional software engineers actually use clouds, and how the cloud impacts development practices. This paper reports on the first systematic study on how software developers build applications in the cloud. We conducted a mixed-method study, consisting of qualitative interviews of 25 professional developers and a quantitative survey with 294 responses. Our results show that adopting the cloud has a profound impact throughout the software development process, as well as on how developers utilize tools and data in their daily work. Among other things, we found that (1) developers need better means to anticipate runtime problems and rigorously define metrics for improved fault localization and (2) the cloud offers an abundance of operational data, however, developers still often rely on their experience and intuition rather than utilizing metrics. From our findings, we extracted a set of guidelines for cloud development and identified challenges for researchers and tool vendors.

Abstract:Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space, Ahead of Print. There has been an explosion of scholarship on platform capitalism, with scholars identifying emergent labor practices, organizational forms, and business models. There is broad agreement that successful platform companies quickly dominate their markets, and winner-takes-all scenarios are common. However, market domination should not only be viewed as a condition but also as a process that is defined by specific drivers and practices. With regard to rapid expansion, much is said about network effects and data-intensive business models that are fueled by speculative logics as well as weak regulatory mechanisms. 1 advance the discussion on expansion and hyper-scalability by focusing on the transformation in underlying computing arrangements that shape the growth of platform-based companies. This article establishes cloud computing arrangements as setting the foundational sociotechnical infrastructure that drives rapid expansion.
