Abstract:Ear, Nose &Throat Journal, Ahead of Print. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the educational quality of endonasal endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (EE-DCR) videos on YouTube with Instructional Videos in Otorhinolaryngology by YO-IFOS (IVORY) and LAParoscopic surgery Video Educational GuidelineS (LAP-VEGaS) guidelines and to evaluate the correlation of the 2 guidelines. Methods: EE-DCR videos were queried using search terms on YouTube. Views, likes, likes/dislikes ratio, age, and length of videos were noted. Videos were evaluated using the IVORY and LAP-VEGaS guidelines. Two IVORY scores were created: total (IVORY-1) and organ-specific (IVORY-2). The correlation analysis between video features and guideline scores was performed. Results: A total of 61 EE-DCR videos were evaluated. The mean score of LAP-VEGaS was 10.3 (±SD 2.7), the mean IVORY-1 score was 22.5 (±SD 5.5), and the mean IVORY-2 score was 10.6 (±SD 1.94). Correlation analysis revealed a statistically significant correlation between the IVORY-1 total score and the number of likes, the duration of the video, the age of the video, and the LAP-VEGaS score. Linear regression analysis showed that higher IVORY-1 scores predicted longer video duration, newer video age, and higher LAP-VEGaS scores. There was a significant association between LAP-VEGaS categories and the IVORY-1 total score (P < .001). Conclusion: The quality of EE-DCR videos is generally low to moderate. The IVORY and LAP-VEGaS guidelines were found to be correlated with each other. Both guidelines can be used to evaluate EE-DCR videos and otolaryngology surgical education videos in general. We believe that scales such as IVORY and LAP-VEGaS may be improved according to specific surgical procedures.

Assessing Laryngectomy Patient Education on YouTube: Investigating Quality and Reliability

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to characterize the quality of laryngectomy-related patient education on YouTube and understand factors impacting video content quality. Study design: Cross-sectional cohort analysis. Setting: Laryngectomy-related videos on YouTube. Methods: YouTube was anonymously queried for various laryngectomy procedure search terms. Video quality was evaluated using the validated DISCERN instrument which assesses treatment-related information quality. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize our cohort. Univariate and multivariable linear regression were used to assess factors associated with increased DISCERN score. Significance was set at P < .05. Results: Our 78-video cohort exhibited moderate levels of engagement, averaging 13,028.40 views (SD = 24,246.93), 69.79 likes (SD = 163.75), and 5.27 comments (SD = 18.81). Videos were most frequently uploaded to accounts belonging to physicians (43.59%) or health care groups (41.03%) and showcased operations (52.56%) or physician-led education (20.51%). Otolaryngologists were featured in most videos (85.90%), and most videos originated outside the United States (67.95%). Laryngectomy videos demonstrated poor reliability (mean = 2.35, SD = 0.77), quality of treatment information (mean = 1.92, SD = 0.86), and overall video quality (mean = 1.97, SD = 1.12). In multivariable linear regression, operative videos were associated with lower video quality relative to nonoperative videos (β = -1.63, 95% confidence interval [CI] = [-2.03 to -1.24], P < .001); the opposite was true for videos from accounts with higher subscriber counts (β = 0.02, 95% CI = [0.01-0.03], P = .005). Conclusion: The quality and quantity of YouTube's laryngectomy educational content is limited. There is an acute need to increase the quantity and quality of online laryngectomy-related content to better support patients and caregivers as they cope with their diagnosis, prepare for, and recover from surgery.
Evaluation of Educational YouTube Videos for Distal Radius Fracture Treatment

Abstract:Purpose: Distal radius fractures (DRFs) are one of the most common fractures in adults. Adequate patient education is crucial for adherence to treatment. YouTube is a popular, accessible resource that has become a valuable tool for obtaining health information. The current study evaluated the top 50 YouTube videos on DRF treatment for patient education. Methods: A systematic search was conducted on YouTube using three searches to obtain 150 videos. Duplicate, nonrelevant, paid, and non-English videos were removed, and the top 50 rank-ordered videos were reviewed and characterized in terms of general (views, likes, video length, and publication date), source (publisher affiliation, presenter type, and target audience), and content (media type, topic coverage, advertisements, and bias) parameters. Results: Only 56% of videos were directed toward patients versus 40% for health care providers, highlighting a gap in patient-oriented educational content on YouTube. Most (86%) videos included effective visual aids, aligning with best practices for educational videos. Surgical management was overrepresented in 64% of the videos as opposed to nonsurgical management in 34% of videos. Only 31% of patient-oriented videos discussed surgical complications. Home exercises were emphasized in 75% of the videos discussing recovery topics. Conclusions: Although YouTube has the potential to be an effective resource for disseminating health information to patients, it has several limitations for education in DRF treatment including the lack of patient-oriented educational videos, overrepresentation of surgical treatment, and lack of information on surgical complications. Nonetheless, YouTube may have an important role as a supplementary resource, especially in certain topics such as guiding postoperative recovery with home exercises. Clinical relevance: This study allows health care providers and content creators to proactively address information gaps identified in educational YouTube videos on DRF treatment. It helps characterize the role of YouTube in supporting the treatment and recovery of patients experiencing DRFs.
YouTube videos on gingival grafting procedures: Content and quality analysis

Abstract:Background: Periodontal surgery for gingival defects is widely recognized by dental care professionals and researchers for its effectiveness in treating gingival recession and improving oral health outcomes. YouTube (Google LLC) is 1 of the health information sources patients and clinicians use, and assessing its content quality is crucial. The authors aimed to examine the content and quality of YouTube videos on gingival graft procedures. Methods: The online video streaming platform YouTube was searched using the key word gingival graft. Two independent examiners analyzed a total of 120 videos; a third examiner assessed interrater reliability. Fifty videos that met the inclusion criteria were included in the study. The assessed content topics for these YouTube videos consisted of 13 different categories, and their overall quality was evaluated using the Video Information and Quality Index (VIQI). Statistical analyses were performed using SAS software, Version 9.4 (SAS Institute). Results: There were 23 videos in the high-quality content groups and 27 videos in the low-quality content group. Hospitals and universities uploaded most of the included videos. The most commonly discussed topics in the included videos were the patient's condition (36 [72%]) and area of tissue graft (34 [68%]). The total VIQI score and flow had a significant impact on the overall content score (P < .05). Conclusions: There was a direct correlation between total VIQI scores and total content scores and an inverse relationship between viewing rate and total content scores. Practical implications: To ensure patients receive accurate and up-to-date information about treatment, the authors recommend guiding them toward reliable resources by means of providing direct links to trustworthy websites, creating and sharing playlists of reliable educational videos, and offering printed materials with quick-response codes linking to verified sources. These actions will help patients easily access and trust the information they need for their treatment decisions.
Evaluation of YouTube as a Health Education Resource for Skin Graft Procedures

Abstract:Recent studies indicate that YouTube has become a primary source of healthcare information for patients. Videos about skin graft procedures on YouTube have accumulated millions of views, yet there lacks a publication investigating the educational quality of this content. With current literature revealing misleading healthcare information found on YouTube, this study aims to evaluate the educational quality of videos related to skin graft procedures. YouTube was searched for various terms such as "Skin Graft Procedures" and "Skin Graft Surgery." 105 videos were assessed, with 21 excluded. Four independent reviewers rated the material with the Global Quality Scale (5 = highest quality, 1 = lowest quality) to judge educational value. Viewership, source, modality, and date of upload were also collected from each video and compiled for further analysis. The average Global Quality Scale was 2.60 amongst all videos, with videos led by physicians recording significantly higher scores than those not led by physicians (p<0.01). In comparing educational modalities, physician-led presentations provided the highest educational value, whereas live surgeries and consumer-friendly content contained low educational quality (p<0.01). Assessing videos split into cohorts based on viewership noted a significantly higher Global Quality Scale in videos with lower view counts (p<0.05). Skin graft videos on YouTube largely provide low quality information. Videos performed by physicians, particularly physician-led presentations, significantly improved the educational quality of skin graft content. Physicians must involve themselves in enhancing the quality of online content to better guide patients in navigating treatment options and making healthcare decisions.
Assessment of Lung Cancer YouTube Videos for Patient Education

Abstract:The internet is essential for obtaining information about lung cancer, which is the leading contributor to global cancer deaths. YouTube is a video-streaming platform that is popular among health consumers; however, the reliability of videos is variable, and few studies have evaluated their role in lung cancer education. This study uses a systematic approach to assess the characteristics, reliability and use of best practices of lung cancer YouTube videos for patient education. Using the search term "lung cancer," the first 50 YouTube videos were identified after applying exclusion criteria and removing duplicates. Two reviewers used a video assessment tool to evaluate 10 videos with minimal discrepancies. The remaining 40 videos were evaluated by one reviewer following a design based research approach. Under half the videos were published within 3 years. Mean video length was 6 min and 12 s. Video publishers were commonly from the USA (70%); were affiliated with a health care facility/ organization (30%), non-profit (26%) or commercial organization (30%); had a physician presenter (46%); were targeted towards patients (68%); and had subtitles (96%). Seventy four percent of videos supported optimal learning by including effective audio and visual channels. Lung cancer epidemiology, risk factors, and definitions (nature of the disease and classification) were among the most common topics covered. Prognostic and diagnostic information was covered less than expected. The reliability of the videos (measured by Modified DISCERN score) varied by presenter type; however, these results should be interpreted cautiously due to the absence of gold standard tools. This study encourages those producing health education videos to continue following best practices for video learning and provides strategies for healthcare providers and patients to support patient education.
Assessment of YouTube Videos in Patient Education for Coronary Artery Disease: A DISCERN-Based Cross-Sectional Analysis

Abstract:Introduction Cardiovascular disease has one of the highest mortality rates and continues to grow. Therefore, it is important for the medical community to get involved in widespread patient education efforts. As technology has steadily advanced, YouTube (Google LLC, Mountain View, California, United States) has become a popular source for patients to gather medical information. In this study, we aim to assess the quality of YouTube videos pertaining to coronary artery disease. Methods We searched the following key terms on June 20, 2023, using the view count filter: coronary artery disease, coronary artery disease treatment, cardiac catheterization, and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The top twenty videos for each keyword were recorded. After videos that were over 20 minutes, non-English, procedural videos without words, and duplicates were excluded, forty-five videos remained. Each video was assessed by three viewers using the DISCERN criteria (http://www.discern.org.uk). Numerical data was averaged into composite scores. Two-sided t-tests and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) tests were used to compare mean ratings between groups. A Spearman correlation was done to compare each of the following terms to one another: overall quality of videos, total likes a video received, and total views. Results The mean ratings for coronary artery disease, coronary artery disease treatment, cardiac catheterization, and CABG were 2.30, 2.60, 2.05, and 2.92, respectively, with an overall mean of 2.42. The means between coronary artery disease and coronary artery disease treatment were significantly different (p adj = 0.01). The overall rating for videos with board-certified physicians was significantly higher than those without a board-certified physician (p < 0.001). There was a low correlation between likes and overall ratings (0.03) and views and overall ratings (-0.068). Conclusion The videos on coronary artery disease, coronary artery disease treatment, cardiac catheterization, and CABG had poor overall quality based on DISCERN criteria. The overall ratings from videos with board physicians are higher than those from non-physicians, suggesting that physicians should be encouraged to create content about important medical conditions. There was also a low correlation between the overall quality of a video and the likes and views, respectively, indicating a disconnect between what the public values and the actual value of a video.
YouTube as a source of education in perioperative anesthesia for patients and trainees: a systematic review

Abstract:Background: Online video sharing platforms like YouTube (Google LLC, San Bruno, CA, USA) have become a substantial source of health information. We sought to conduct a systematic review of studies assessing the overall quality of perioperative anesthesia videos on YouTube. Methods: We searched Embase, MEDLINE, and Ovid for articles published from database inception to 1 May 2023. We included primary studies evaluating YouTube videos as a source of information regarding perioperative anesthesia. We excluded studies not published in English and studies assessing acute or chronic pain. Studies were screened and data were extracted in duplicate by two reviewers. We appraised the quality of studies according to the social media framework published in the literature. We used descriptive statistics to report the results using mean, standard deviation, range, and n/total N (%). Results: Among 8,908 citations, we identified 14 studies that examined 796 videos with 59.7 hr of content and 47.5 million views. Among the 14 studies that evaluated the video content quality, 17 different quality assessment tools were used, only three of which were externally validated (Global Quality Score, modified DISCERN score, and JAMA score). Per global assessment rating of video quality, 11/13 (85%) studies concluded the overall video quality as poor. Conclusions: Overall, the educational content quality of YouTube videos evaluated in the literature accessible as an educational resource regarding perioperative anesthesia was poor. While these videos are in demand, their impact on patient and trainee education remains unclear. A standardized methodology for evaluating online videos is merited to improve future reporting. A peer-reviewed approach to online open-access videos is needed to support patient and trainee education in anesthesia. Abstract:BackgroundThe internet is a widely used source for obtaining medical information both by patients and physicians. YouTube® is a valuable information resource which can improve the learning experience of both public and medical professionals if appropriately used. In this study, we want to evaluate quality and accuracy of videos about sleeve gastrectomy procedure.MethodsWe included the first 100 videos returned by YouTube® search engine in response to “sleeve gastrectomy” keyword query to the study. The popularity of the videos was evaluated with an index called the video power index (VPI). Educational quality of videos was measured using the DISCERN score (DISCERN), Journal of American Medical Association (JAMAS) benchmark criteria, and Global Quality Scores (GQS). The technical quality was measured by Sleeve Gastrectomy Scoring System (SGSS) which was utilized by three bariatric surgeons.ResultsThe source in 31% of the videos was a patient. The content in 53% of the videos was surgical technique. According to sources, videos uploaded by a university-affiliated physician had significantly higher DISCERN, JAMAS, GQS, and SGSS scores. Videos uploaded by a university-affiliated physician also had lower video power index than videos uploaded by patients. Surgical technique videos had significantly higher DISCERN, JAMAS, GQS, and SGSS scores. Patient experiences and advertisement videos had higher VPI scores. Also, negative correlations were found between video power index and JAMAS, GQS, and SGSS scores.ConclusionsOnline information on sleeve gastrectomy is of low quality, and its contents are of unknown source and accuracy. However, educational potential of YouTube® cannot be ignored.

Comparing the educational quality of YouTube and Facebook videos on tympanostomy tubes

Abstract:Purpose: Patients often refer to online materials when researching surgical procedures. This study compares the educational quality of online videos about tympanostomy tubes on two popular video platforms: YouTube and Facebook. This study provides clinicians with context about the content and quality of information patients may possess after watching online videos on tympanostomy tubes. Materials and methods: YouTube and Facebook were searched using key terms related to tympanostomy tubes. Videos were screened and scored in triplicate. DISCERN quality, content, production, and alternative medicine scores were assigned. Statistical analysis was conducted using GraphPad Prism. Results: 76 YouTube and 86 Facebook videos were analyzed. DISCERN quality scores (mean = 1.8 vs. 1.4, P < .0001), content scores (mean = 1.7 vs. 1.0, P < .0001), and production scores (mean = 4.8 vs. 4.6, P = .0327) were significantly higher on YouTube compared to Facebook. 33 % of Facebook videos referenced alternative medicine, as compared with 0 % of YouTube videos (P < .0001). Physician/hospital-generated videos had significantly higher DISCERN and content scores than parent-, product-, and chiropractor-generated videos. Views did not correlate with DISCERN or content scores. Conclusion: YouTube is a better platform than Facebook for educational videos about tympanostomy tubes. YouTube videos had higher educational quality, more comprehensive content, and less alternative medicine. One third of Facebook videos advocated for alternative treatments. Importantly, videos on both platforms were of limited educational quality as demonstrated through low DISCERN reliability scores and coverage of few important content areas.
Assessment of Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS) Content on YouTube

Abstract:Background: Online video hosting websites such as YouTube have been increasingly used by medical institutions to spread information about new and exciting topics. However, due to the large number of videos uploaded daily and the lack of peer review, few attempts have been made to assess the quantity and quality of information that is uploaded on YouTube. For this study, our team assessed the available content on the transoral robotic surgery (TORS) procedure. Methods: A qualitative case study model was employed. Videos related to TORS were collected using a unified search protocol. Each video was then analyzed, and metrics of the following data points were collected: views, likes, comments, upload date, length of video, author type, author, and region of origin. Each dataset was analyzed by two distinct authors, and interrater reliability was calculated. Quantitative and qualitative statistics were curated. Results: A total of 124 videos were analyzed for this review. The breakdown of videos was as follows: 15.32% (19) in the educational for patients category, 16.94% (21) in the educational for trainees category, 30.65% (38) in the procedural overview category, 8.87% (11) in the patient experience (PE) category, 10.48% (13) in the promotional category, 12.10% (15) in the other category, and 5.65% (7) in the irrelevant (IR) category. The total number of views across all videos analyzed was 2,589,561. The total number of likes was 14,827, and the total number of comments was 2,606. The average video length was 8.63 minutes. The most viewed category was the PE category at 1,014,738 and the most liked at 1,714. The least viewed category was IR at 21,082. The PE category had the most engagement based on combined comments and likes. The most watched video, with 774,916 views, was in the PE category under the "TORS for Thyroidectomy" search term and was titled "Thyroid Surgery (Thyroidectomy)." Conclusion: As the prevalence of online videos regarding medical devices, procedures, and treatments increases, patients and trainees alike will look toward resources such as YouTube to augment their understanding. Patients, providers, and medical education platforms should take heed of the promise and pitfalls of medical content on YouTube.
Educational quality of Robotic Whipple videos on YouTube

Abstract:Background: Videos on Robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD) may be watched by surgeons learning RPD. This study sought to appraise the educational quality of RPD videos on YouTube. Methods: One-hundred videos showing RPD or 'Robotic Whipple' were assessed using validated scales (LAP-VEGaS & Consensus Statement Score (CSS)). The association between the scores and the video characteristics (e.g. order of appearance, provider type etc) was assessed. The minimum number of videos required to cumulatively cover the entire LAP-VEGaS and CSS was also noted. Results: The videos were of variable quality; median LAP-VEGaS = 0.67 (0.17-0.94), median CSS = 0.45 (0.29-0.53). There was no association between the educational quality of the videos and their order of appearance, view counts, provider type, length or country of origin. Videos lacked information such as patient consent (100%), potential pitfalls (97%) or surgeon credentials (84%). The first 29 videos cumulatively met all the criteria of CSS and LAP-VEGaS scores except for reporting consent. Conclusion: YouTube videos on RPD are of variable quality, without any recognised predictors of quality, and miss important safety information. An impractical number of videos need to be watched to cumulatively fulfil educational criteria. There is a need for high-quality, peer-reviewed videos that adhere to educational principles.
Assessment of the Quality of Sinus Elevation with Lateral Window Approach Procedure Videos on YouTube: A Content-quality Analysis

Abstract:Although the lateral window approach allows for greater graft material delivery and bone formation, it is more challenging and invasive, prompting keen interest among dentists to master this method. YouTube is increasingly used for medical training; however, concerns regarding the quality of instructional videos exist. This study proposes new criteria for evaluating YouTube videos on maxillary sinus elevation with the aim of establishing standards for assessing instructional content in the field. We sourced 100 maxillary sinus elevation videos from YouTube and, following exclusion criteria, analyzed 65 remaining videos. The video characteristics, content quality, and newly developed criteria were evaluated. Statistical analyses, employing ordinal logistic regression, identified the factors influencing the quality of instructional videos and evaluated the significance of our new criteria. Although video interaction and view rate exhibited positive relations to content quality, they were not significant ( P =0.818 and 0.826, respectively). Notably, videos of fair and poor quality showed a significant negative relation ( P <0.001). Audio commentary, written commentary, and descriptions of preoperative data displayed positive but statistically insignificant relationships ( P =0.088, 0.228, and 0.612, respectively). The comparison of video evaluation results based on the developed criteria with content quality scores revealed significant negative relationships for good, fair, and poor videos ( P <0.001, Exp(B)=-4.306, -7.853, -10.722, respectively). Among the various video characteristics, only image quality showed a significant relationship with content quality. Importantly, our newly developed criteria demonstrated a significant relationship with video content quality, providing valuable insights for assessing instructional videos on maxillary sinus elevation and laying the foundation for robust standards.
YouTube as an information source for instrument separation in root canal treatment

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: The reliability and educational quality of videos on YouTube for patients seeking information regarding instrument separation in root canal treatment were evaluated.MATERIALS AND METHODS: YouTube was searched for videos on instrument separation in root canal treatment. Video content was scored based on reliability in terms of 3 categories (etiology, procedure, and prognosis) and based on video flow, quality, and educational usefulness using the Global Quality Score (GQS). Descriptive statistics were obtained and the data were analyzed using analysis of variance and the Kruskal-Wallis test.RESULTS: The highest mean completeness scores were obtained for videos published by dentists or specialists (1.48 ± 1.06). There was no statistically significant difference among sources of upload in terms of content completeness. The highest mean GQS was found for videos published by dentists or specialists (1.82 ± 0.96), although there was no statistically significant correlation between GQS and the source of upload.CONCLUSIONS: Videos on YouTube have incomplete and low-quality content for patients who are concerned about instrument separation during endodontic treatment, or who experience this complication during endodontic treatment.
Quality of YouTube Videos Regarding Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction Using Quadriceps Tendon Autograft Is Unsatisfactory

Abstract:PURPOSE: To assess the validity and informational value of teaching material regarding anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) using quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft provided on the YouTube video platform.METHODS: An extensive systematic search of the YouTube video platform was performed, and all videos that met the criteria were included in the analysis. The analysis of the video content was performed using the DISCERN instrument, Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmark criteria, and Global Quality Score (GQS). The duration of the videos, the date of publication, and the number of likes and views were recorded. Furthermore, videos were categorized based on the source (physicians, companies, patients), the subject (surgical technique, patient experience and overview [overview videos were videos in which multiple aspects were analyzed]), and the type of content (educational or subjective patient experience).RESULTS: A total of 88 videos were included in the analysis. Seventy-one (80.7%) videos were published by physicians, 15 (17.0%) by patients, and 2 (2.3%) by companies. The majority of the videos described various surgical techniques (59%-67.0%), 80.7% of the videos (72%-81.8%) had an educational nature, and the remaining 18.2% described patient experiences. The mean length of the videos was 8.21 ± 7.88 minutes. The mean number of views was 3,988.51 ± 9,792.98 (range 9-56,047), whereas the mean numbers of comments and likes were 30.07 ± 70.07 (range 0-493) and 4.48 ± 14.22 (range 0-82), respectively. The mean DISCERN score, JAMA score, and GQS were 27.43 ±11.56 (95% confidence interval [CI] 25.01-29.85; range: 17-68), 1.22 ± 0.85 (95% CI 1.04-1.40; range 0-3), and 1.82 ± 0.93 (95% CI 1.63-2.01; range 1-4), respectively. For all scores, videos published by physicians had greater quality (DISCERN score, JAMA score, and GQS) (P < .05). Among all of the analyzed videos, overview videos were of the highest quality (P < .05).CONCLUSIONS: YouTube is a fast and open-access source of mass information. The overall quality of the videos on ACLR performed using QT autograft was unsatisfactory, demonstrating low educational quality and reliability. Currently, YouTube cannot be recommended as a reliable source of information on ACLR with the QT.

Abstract:The rise of online platforms like YouTube for health information has prompted scrutiny over the quality of medical/surgical-related video content. Recent research on YouTube videos regarding anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) with quadriceps tendon autograft shows low educational quality and reliability using established assessment tools. Physicians primarily published content, with longer videos, and physician-generated videos, generally correlating with higher quality. However, YouTube's inadequacy as a reliable source for ACLR information underscores the need for alternative educational resources. Orthopaedic health care professionals must play a pivotal role in guiding patients toward credible sources and take aim at improving online content quality. Understanding patient preferences for online resources is essential for enhancing patient education, the patient-provider relationship, and decision-making in orthopaedic care.
A Qualitative Analysis of Ostomy-Related Patient Education Videos on YouTube

Abstract:Objective: To analyze the content, reliability, and quality of the most viewed YouTube videos targeting patients with ostomies intending to learn about ostomy care (OC). Methods: Using the keywords "stoma care," "colostomy care," and "ileostomy care," researchers assessed the publicly visible English-language ostomy patient education videos available on YouTube. A total of 84 videos were independently analyzed by two physicians experienced in OC. Data on video characteristics, source, content, reliability, and quality were collected and recorded for each video separately. Results: Of the 84 videos analyzed, 49 were classified as useful (58.33%) and 35 as misleading (41.66%). There were statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of the time elapsed since upload (P < .017), reliability (P < .001), comprehensiveness (P < .001), Global Quality Scale scores (P < .001), source (P < .001), and lecturer types (P < .011). The reliability, comprehensiveness, and Global Quality Scale scores were statistically higher for videos uploaded by universities, professional healthcare communities, and nonprofit physicians (P < .001). However, the popularity of the OC videos posted on YouTube was not related to their reliability, comprehensiveness, or quality. Conclusions: The open-access nature of the YouTube platform may impair patient education video quality and accuracy. YouTube may be an additional educational tool for OC, but clinicians need to be familiar with specific and reliable resources to guide and educate new patients with ostomies to achieve the best outcomes.

Abstract:Purpose To critically appraise the quality and reliability of YouTube videos regarding peri‐implant diseases and conditions as a source of information for patients, students, and young clinicians. Materials and Methods In March 2023, electronic searches were performed on YouTube website to identify videos related to peri‐implant diseases and conditions. We considered only the relevant 250 English‐language videos with durations between 3 and 30 min for final analyses. Following the eligibility criteria videos were evaluated for their demographic data, including number of views; number of likes, dislikes, and comments; days since upload; duration; and number of subscribers. Moreover, two assessors independently evaluated the quality and reliability of the included videos using the DISCERN and Video Information and Quality Index (VIQI) tools. Statistical analyses were performed using the Kruskal–Wallis test and Spearman correlation analysis (∝ = 0.05). Results A total of 69 videos were included for profound analyses. The average DISCERN and VIQI scores were 35.04 ± 6.3 and 14.18 ± 2.46, with 53 videos categorized as "poor" quality using the DISCERN tool. Abstract:Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the content and quality of videos about bruxism treatments on YouTube, a platform frequently used by patients today to obtain information. Methods: A YouTube search was performed using the keywords "bruxism treatment" and "teeth grinding treatment". "The sort by relevance" filter was used for both search terms and the first 150 videos were saved. A total of 139 videos that met the study criteria were included in the study. Videos were classified as poor, moderate or excellent based on a usefulness score that evaluated content quality. The modified DISCERN tool was also used to evaluate video quality. Additionally, videos were categorized according to the upload source, target audience and video type. The types of treatments mentioned in the videos and the demographic data of the videos were recorded. Results: According to the usefulness score, 59% of the videos were poor-quality, 36.7% were moderate-quality and 4.3% were excellent-quality. Moderate-quality videos had a higher interaction index than excellent-quality videos (p = 0.039). The video duration of excellent-quality videos was longer than that of moderate and poor-quality videos (p = 0.024, p = 0.002). Videos with poor-quality content were found to have significantly lower DISCERN scores than videos with moderate (p < 0.001) and excellent-quality content (p = 0.008). Additionally, there was a significantly positive and moderate (r = 0.446) relationship between DISCERN scores and content usefulness scores (p < 0.001). There was only a weak positive correlation between DISCERN scores and video length (r = 0.359; p < 0.001). The videos uploaded by physiotherapists had significantly higher views per day and viewing rate than videos uploaded by medical doctors (p = 0.037), university-hospital-institute (p = 0.024) and dentists (p = 0.006). The videos uploaded by physiotherapists had notably higher number of likes and number of comments than videos uploaded by medical doctors (p = 0.023; p = 0.009, respectively), university-hospital-institute (p = 0.003; p = 0.008, respectively) and dentists (p = 0.002; p = 0.002, respectively). Conclusions: Although the majority of videos on YouTube about bruxism treatments are produced by professionals, most of the videos contain limited information, which may lead patients to debate treatment methods. Health professionals should warn patients against this potentially misleading content and direct them to reliable sources.

Abstract:Objective The use of online teaching modalities to supplement surgical learning has increased recently, demonstrating promising results. Previous studies have analyzed the value and usefulness of YouTube as an educational source to learners, including teaching surgical skills to Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS) trainees. YouTube videos on endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) still need to be explored as ESS remains a common, yet challenging surgery that OHNS residents encounter regularly. This study aimed to objectively evaluate the usefulness of YouTube videos on ESS for surgical education. Design YouTube was searched using the following keywords: "uncinectomy," "maxillary antrostomy," "anterior ethmoidectomy," and "ethmoid bulla resection." These represent the initial ESS steps residents learn. Each video was assessed for eligibility by two independent reviewers. Outcome Measures The LAParoscopic surgery Video Educational Guidelines (LAP-VEGaS) and ESS-specific criteria were used to assess educational quality. Video popularity index (VPI) was used to calculate video popularity. Results Of the 38 videos that met inclusion criteria, the average LAP-VEGaS score was 6.59 (± ) 3.23 standard deviation. Most videos were designated low quality. There was a weak positive correlation between whether a video included ESS-specific criteria and LAP-VEGaS score ( r = 0.269, p = 0.102). There was a significant positive correlation between VPI and LAP-VEGaS scores ( r = 0.497, p = 0.003). Conclusions Overall, the quality of included videos was poor. OHNS residents should not rely solely or primarily on YouTube videos to learn surgical skills relevant to ESS. To maximize potential of online teaching, high-quality videos should be used to compliment other methods of teaching.
