Abstract:Dermal papillae,a cluster of specialized fibroblasts at the bottom of hair follicles,play a vital role in the periodical growth of hair follicles via interacting with surrounding cells,and are considered as a signaling center in the control of hair follicle formation and hair growth.Recent studies have shown that many signaling pathways,including Wnt,bone morphogenic protein,Shh,Notch and fibroblast growth factor (FGF),are crucial for dermal papillae to regulate hair follicle formation and hair growth.Targeting these pathways may provide new strategies for promoting the proliferation of cultured dermal papilla cells in vitro,enhancing the ability of dermal papilla cells to induce hair growth,and finally for developing new methods for hair reconstitution in clinical treatment.
