Abstract:In this paper we study the classification of the f-minimal hypersurface immersed in the manifold M-n x R, where (M-n, g) is an Einstein manifold with positive Ricci curvature. By using the F functional and F-stability which were introduced by Huisken and Colding-Minicozzi respectively, we prove that among all complete f-minimal hypersurfaces with polynomial volume growth, only M-n x {0} is F-stable.

Abstract:In this paper we describe a proof of the formulas of Witten [W1], [W2] about the symplectic volumes and the intersection numbers of the moduli spaces of principal bundles on a compact Riemann surface. It is known that these formulas give all the information needed for the Verlinde formula. The main idea of the proof is to use the heat kernel on compact Lie groups, in a way very similar to the heat kernel proof of the Atiyah-Singer index formula and the Atiyah-Bott fixed point formula. The Reidemeister torsion comes into the picture, through a beautiful observation of Witten, as the symplectic volume of the moduli space. It plays the role similar to that played by the Ray-Singer torsion in the path-integral computations on the space of connections. The basic idea is as follows. Consider a smooth map between two compact smooth manifolds f : M → N . Let H(t, x, x0) be the heat kernel of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on N with x0 a fixed regular value of f . Abstract:We consider stable minimal surfaces of genus 1 in Euclidean space and in Riemannian manifolds. Under the condition of covering stability (all finite covers are stable) we show that a genus 1 finite total curvature minimal surface in $\mathbb R^n$ lies in an even dimensional affine subspace and is holomorphic for some constant orthogonal complex structure. For stable minimal tori in Riemannian manifolds we give an explicit bound on the systole in terms of a positive lower bound on the isotropic curvature. As an application we estimate the systole of noncyclic abelian subgroups of the fundamental group of PIC manifolds. This gives a new proof of the result of [5] that the fundamental cannot contain a noncyclic free abelian subgroup. The proofs apply the structure theory of holomorphic vector bundles over genus 1 Riemann surfaces developed by M. Atiyah [2].

Abstract:We prove local measure bounds on the tubular neighbourhood of the singular set of codimension one stationary integral n -varifolds V in Riemannian manifolds which have both: (i) finite index on their smoothly embedded part; and (ii) -null singular set. A direct consequence of such a bound is a bound on the upper Minkowski content of the singular set of such a varifold in terms of its total mass and its index. Such a result improves on known bounds, namely the corresponding bound on the -measure of the singular set established by Song (Duke Math J 172(11):2073–2147, 2023), as well as the same bounds established by Naber and Valtorta (J Eur Math Soc 22(10):3305–3382, 2020) for codimension one area minimising currents. Our results also provide more structural information on the singular set for codimension one integral varifolds with finite index (on the regular part) and no classical singularities established by Wickramasekera (Ann Math 179:843–1007, 2014).

Abstract:We extend our family rigidity and vanishing theorems in [LiuMaZ] to the Spin c case.In particular, we prove a ^-theory version of the main results of [H], [Liul, Theorem B] for a family of almost complex manifolds.0. Introduction.Let M, B be two compact smooth manifolds, and TT : M -» B be a smooth fibration with compact fibre X.Let TX be the relative tangent bundle.Assume that a compact Lie group G acts fiberwise on M, that is, the action preserves each fiber of TT.Let P be a family of G-equivariant elliptic operators along the fiber X.Then the family index of P, Ind(P), is a well-defined element in K(B) (cf.[AS]) and is a virtual G-representation (cf.[LiuMal]).We denote by (Ind(P)) G £ K(B) the G-invariant part of Ind(P).A family of elliptic operator P is said to be rigid on the equivariant Chern character level with respect to this G-action, if the equivariant Chern character ch 5 (Ind(P)) G H*(B) is independent of g G G. Abstract:In this paper, we study the stability and minimizing properties of higher codimensional surfaces in Euclidean space associated with the $f$-weighted area-functional $$\mathcal{E}_f(M)=\int_M f(x)\; d \mathcal{H}_k$$ with the density function $f(x)=g(|x|)$ and $g(t)$ is non-negative, which develop the recent works by U. Dierkes and G. Huisken (Math. Ann., 20 October 2023) on hypersurfaces with the density function $|x|^\alpha$. Under suitable assumptions on $g(t)$, we prove that minimal cones with globally flat normal bundles are $f$-stable, and we also prove that the regular minimal cones satisfying Lawlor curvature criterion, the highly singular determinantal varieties and Pfaffian varieties without some exceptional cases are $f$-minimizing. As an application, we show that $k$-dimensional minimal cones over product of spheres are $|x|^\alpha$-stable for $\alpha\geq-k+2\sqrt{2(k-1)}$, the oriented stable minimal hypercones are $|x|^\alpha$-stable for $\alpha\geq 0$, and we also show that the minimal cones over product of spheres $\mathcal{C}=C \left(S^{k_1} \times \cdots \times S^{k_{m}}\right)$ are $|x|^\alpha$-minimizing for $\dim \mathcal{C} \geq 7$, $k_i>1$ and $\alpha \geq 0$, the Simons cones $C(S^{p} \times S^{p})(p\geq 1)$ are $|x|^\alpha$-minimizing for any $\alpha \geq 1$, which relaxes the assumption $1\leq\alpha \leq 2p$ in \cite{DH23}.

Fine Structure of Singularities in Area-Minimizing Currents Mod$(q)$

Abstract:We study fine structural properties related to the interior regularity of $m$-dimensional area minimizing currents mod$(q)$ in arbitrary codimension. We show: (i) the set of points where at least one tangent cone is translation invariant along $m-1$ directions is locally a connected $C^{1,\beta}$ submanifold, and moreover such points have unique tangent cones; (ii) the remaining part of the singular set is countably $(m-2)$-rectifiable, with a unique flat tangent cone (with multiplicity) at $\mathcal{H}^{m-2}$-a.e. flat singular point. These results are consequences of fine excess decay theorems as well as almost monotonicity of a universal frequency function.

Abstract:Let dimensions $d \ge 3$ and codimensions $c \ge 3$ be positive integers, and define the exceptional set $E = \{3, 4\}$. We prove that, for $d \notin E$ with arbitrary $c$, or for $d \in E$ with $c \le d$, for any $d$-dimensional integral homology class $[\Sigma]$ on a compact (not necessarily orientable) $(d+c)$-dimensional smooth manifold $M$, there exist open sets $\Omega_{[\Sigma]}$ in the space of smooth Riemannian metrics such that all area-minimizing integral currents in $[\Sigma]$ are singular for metrics in $\Omega_{[\Sigma]}$. This resolves a conjecture by White regarding the generic regularity of area-minimizing surfaces and provides a sharp dimension-wise answer. As a corollary, we determine the moduli space of area-minimizing currents in the vicinity of any area-minimizing transverse immersion with dimension $d \ge 3$ and codimension $c \ge 3$ that satisfies an angle condition of asymptotically sharp order in $d$. Analogous conclusions apply to mod $2$ area-minimizing surfaces.

They prove that area-minimizing mod $v$ currents are smooth outside of a singular set of codimension at least $1.$ Classical examples like triple junctions demonstrate that their result is sharp.

A Variational Theory for The Area of Legendrian Surfaces

Abstract:We study a new notion of critical point for the area of surfaces under the Legendrian constraint, called parametrized Hamiltonian stationary Legendrian varifolds (PHSLVs). We establish several fundamental properties of these objects, including their sequential compactness and an optimal regularity result, showing that they are smooth immersions away from a locally finite set of branch points and Schoen Wolfson conical singularities. This generalizes in particular the regularity theory of Schoen Wolfson for minimizers to general critical points. This theory can be used to show two new variational results: every minmax operation with the area of (closed, immersed) Legendrian surfaces in a closed Sasakian 5-dimensional manifold is achieved by a Hamiltonian stationary map with this regularity; also, the minimal area in any given exact isotopy class of Legendrian immersions of $S^2$ is realized by such a map. Along the way, we prove an effective monotonicity formula for general two-dimensional stationary varifolds in the Legendrian setting, as well as the closure of integral stationary varifolds among rectifiable ones, in spite of the lack of compactness of the latter.

Abstract:A taming symplectic structure provides an upper bound on the area of an approximately pseudoholomorphic curve in terms of its homology class. We prove that, conversely, an almost complex manifold with such an area bound admits a taming symplectic structure. This confirms a speculation by Gromov. We also characterize the cone of taming symplectic structures numerically, prove that complex 2-cycles can be approximated by coarsely holomorphic curves, and provide a lower energy bound for such curves.

Abstract:We identify spaces of half-translation surfaces, equivalently complex curves with quadratic differential, with spaces of stability structures on Fukaya-type categories of punctured surfaces. This is achieved by new methods involving the complete classification of objects in these categories, which are defined in an elementary way. We also introduce a number of tools to deal with surfaces of infinite area, where structures similar to those in cluster algebra appear.

Flat interior singularities for area almost-minimizing currents

Abstract:The interior regularity of area-minimizing integral currents and semi-calibrated currents has been studied extensively in recent decades, with sharp dimension estimates established on their interior singular sets in any dimension and codimension. In stark contrast, the best result in this direction for general almost-minimizing integral currents is due to Bombieri in the 1980s, and demonstrates that the interior regular set is dense. The main results of this article show the sharpness of Bombieri's result by constructing two families of examples of area almost-minimizing integral currents whose flat singular sets contain any closed, empty interior subset $K$ of an $m$-dimensional plane in $\mathbb{R}^{m+n}$. The first family of examples are codimension one currents induced by a superposition of $C^{k,\alpha_*}$ graphs with $K$ contained in the boundary of their zero set. The second family of examples are two dimensional area almost-minimizing integral currents in $\mathbb{R}^4$ whose set of branching singularities contains $K$.

Abstract:We consider an area-minimizing integral current $T$ of codimension higher than $1$ in a smooth Riemannian manifold $\Sigma$. In a previous paper we have subdivided the set of interior singular points with at least one flat tangent cone according to a real parameter, which we refer to as ``singularity degree''. This parameter determines the infinitesimal order of contact at the point in question between the ``singular part'' of $T$ and its ``best regular approximation''. In this paper we show that the set of points for which the singularity degree is strictly larger than $1$, is $(m-2)$-rectifiable. In a subsequent work we prove that the remaining flat singular points form an $(m-2)$-null set, thus concluding that the singular set of $T$ is $m-2$-rectifiable.

Abstract:Let $(M^{n+1},g)$ be a closed Riemannian manifold of dimension $3\le n+1\le 5$. We show that, if the metric $g$ is generic or if the metric $g$ has positive Ricci curvature, then $M$ contains infinitely many geometrically distinct constant mean curvature hypersurfaces, each enclosing half the volume of $M$. As an essential part of the proof, we develop an Almgren-Pitts type min-max theory for certain non-local functionals of the general form $$\Omega \mapsto \operatorname{Area}(\partial \Omega) - \int_\Omega h + f(\operatorname{Vol}(\Omega)).$$
