Abstract:We appreciate Yi Wang's insightful reflections on our recent manuscript, "Sex-differential testosterone response to long-term weight loss," and his thoughtful consideration of its findings. While we recognize the valuable suggestions, we would like to provide further clarification on the scope and intent of our study, particularly in light of the existing gaps in the literature. Our study aimed to address the relative scarcity of data examining long-term changes in sex hormones, with a follow-up period exceeding 12 months. This is an area with limited prior research, particularly regarding hormonal responses to weight loss interventions. Our cohort included participants who underwent three of the most commonly performed bariatric procedures, as well as those who engaged in dietary interventions. The weight loss outcomes observed in our cohort were comparable to those reported in randomised controlled studies of patients undergoing these interventions [1].
