Abstract:We revisit a Harnack inequality for antisymmetric functions that has been recently established for the fractional Laplacian and we extend it to more general nonlocal elliptic operators. The new approach to deal with these problems that we propose in this paper leverages Bochner's relation, allowing one to relate a one-dimensional Fourier transform of an odd function with a three-dimensional Fourier transform of a radial function. In this way, Harnack inequalities for odd functions, which are essentially Harnack inequalities of boundary type, are reduced to interior Harnack inequalities.

Abstract:In 2004, Rosas and Sagan developed the theory of symmetric functions in noncommuting variables, achieving results analogous to classical symmetric functions. On the other hand, in 2004, Desrosiers, Lapointe and Mathieu introduced the theory of symmetric functions in superspace, which involve both commuting and anticommuting variables, extending the classic theory. Here, we introduce symmetric functions in noncommuting variables in superspace. We define the classical symmetric functions in noncommuting variables to superspace: monomials, power sums, elementaries and complete homogeneous, which generalize both the ones studied by Rosas and Sagan and the ones studied by Desrosiers, Lapointe and Mathieu. We also define Schur--type functions in noncommuting variables in superspace.

Abstract:Permutation-invariant, -equivariant, and -covariant functions and anti-symmetric functions are important in quantum physics, computer vision, and other disciplines. Applications often require most or all of the following properties: (a) a large class of such functions can be approximated, e.g. all continuous function, (b) only the (anti)symmetric functions can be represented, (c) a fast algorithm for computing the approximation, (d) the representation itself is continuous or differentiable, (e) the architecture is suitable for learning the function from data. (Anti)symmetric neural networks have recently been developed and applied with great success. A few theoretical approximation results have been proven, but many questions are still open, especially for particles in more than one dimension and the anti-symmetric case, which this work focusses on. More concretely, we derive natural polynomial approximations in the symmetric case, and approximations based on a single generalized Slater determinant in the anti-symmetric case. Unlike some previous super-exponential and discontinuous approximations, these seem a more promising basis for future tighter bounds. We provide a complete and explicit universality proof of the Equivariant MultiLayer Perceptron, which implies universality of symmetric MLPs and the FermiNet.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the nonlinear systems involving fully nonlinear nonlocal operators {F_α(u(x)) = v^p(x) + k_1(x)u^r(x), x ∈ℝ^N,G_β(v(x)) = u^q(x) + k_2(x)v^s(x), x ∈ℝ^N. and {F_α(u(x)) = v^p(x)|x|^a + u^r(x)|x|^b, x ∈ℝ^N\{ 0} ,G_β(v(x)) = u^q(x)|x|^c + v^s(x)|x|^d, x ∈ℝ^N\{ 0} ,. where ki(x) ≥ 0, i = 1, 2, 0 < α, β < 2, p, q, r, s > 1, a, b, c, d > 0. By proving a narrow region principle and other key ingredients for the above systems and extending the direct method of moving planes for the fractional p-Laplacian, we derive the radial symmetry of positive solutions about the origin. During these processes, we estimate the local lower bound of the solutions by constructing sub-solutions.
Generalization of nonlocally related partial differential equation systems: unknown symmetric properties and analytical solutions

Abstract:Symmetry, which describes invariance, is an eternal concern in mathematics and physics, especially in the investigation of solutions to the partial differential equation (PDE). A PDE's nonlocally related PDE systems provide excellent approaches to search for various symmetries that expand the range of its known solutions. They composed of potential systems based on conservation laws and inverse potential systems (IPS) based on differential invariants. Our study is devoted to generalizing their construction and application in three-dimensional circumstances. Concretely, the potential of the algebraic gauge-constrained potential system is simplified without weakening its solution space. The potential system is extended via nonlocal conservation laws and double reductions. Afterwards, nonlocal symmetries are identified in the IPS.\@ The IPS is extended by the solvable Lie algebra and type \Rmnum{2} hidden symmetries. Besides, systems among equations can be connected via Cole-Hopf transformation.\@ Ultimately, established and extended systems embody rich symmetric properties and unprecedented analytical solutions, and may even further facilitate general coordinate-independent analysis in qualitative, numerical, perturbation, etc., this can be illustrated by several Burgers-type equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider equations involving a class of nonlocal Monge-Ampere operators. We first establish some maximum principles, such as a narrow region principle and a decay at infinity. Then, by using the direct method of moving planes, we obtain the symmetry of solutions in an ellipsoid region and in the whole space. We also prove that the positive solutions are non-existence on the upper half space.

Abstract:The noncommutative symmetric functions $\textbf{NSym}$ were first defined abstractly by Gelfand et al. in 1995 as the free associative algebra generated by noncommuting indeterminants $\{\boldsymbol{e}_n\}_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ that were taken as a noncommutative analogue of the elementary symmetric functions. The resulting space was thus a variation on the traditional symmetric functions $\Lambda$. Giving noncommutative analogues of generating function relations for other bases of $\Lambda$ allowed Gelfand et al. to define additional bases of $\textbf{NSym}$ and then determine change-of-basis formulas using quasideterminants. In this paper, we aim for a self-contained exposition that expresses these bases concretely as functions in infinitely many noncommuting variables and avoids quasideterminants. Additionally, we look at the noncommutative analogues of two different interpretations of change-of-basis in $\Lambda$: both as a product of a minimal number of matrices, mimicking Macdonald's exposition of $\Lambda$ in Symmetric Functions and Hall Polynomials, and as statistics on brick tabloids, as in work by Eğecioğlu and Remmel, 1990.

Towards Antisymmetric Neural Ansatz Separation

Abstract:We study separations between two fundamental models (or \emph{Ansätze}) of antisymmetric functions, that is, functions $f$ of the form $f(x_{\sigma(1)}, \ldots, x_{\sigma(N)}) = \text{sign}(\sigma)f(x_1, \ldots, x_N)$, where $\sigma$ is any permutation. These arise in the context of quantum chemistry, and are the basic modeling tool for wavefunctions of Fermionic systems. Specifically, we consider two popular antisymmetric Ansätze: the Slater representation, which leverages the alternating structure of determinants, and the Jastrow ansatz, which augments Slater determinants with a product by an arbitrary symmetric function. We construct an antisymmetric function in $N$ dimensions that can be efficiently expressed in Jastrow form, yet provably cannot be approximated by Slater determinants unless there are exponentially (in $N^2$) many terms. This represents the first explicit quantitative separation between these two Ansätze.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the symmetry properties of positive solutions for nonlocal parabolic equations in the whole space. We obtain various asymptotic maximum principles for carrying out the asymptotic method of moving planes. With the help of these results, we show that if the equation converges to a symmetric one, then the solutions will converge to radially symmetric functions. The methods and techniques used here can be easily applied to study a variety of nonlocal parabolic equations with more general operators and nonlinear terms.

Abstract:Inspired by a classical identity proved by James Simons, we establish a new geometric formula in a nonlocal, possibly fractional, setting. Our formula also recovers the classical case in the limit, thus providing an approach to Simons' work that does not heavily rely on differential geometry.

Abstract:In the Hopf algebra of symmetric functions, Sym, the basis of Schur functions is distinguished since every Schur function is isomorphic to an irreducible character of a symmetric group under the Frobenius characteristic map. In this note we show that in the Hopf algebra of noncommutative symmetric functions, Nsym, of which Sym is a quotient, the recently discovered basis of noncommutative Schur functions exhibits that every noncommutative Schur function is isomorphic to a noncommutative irreducible character of a symmetric group when working in noncommutative character theory. We simultaneously show that a second basis of Nsym consisting of Young noncommutative Schur functions also satisfies that every element is isomorphic to a noncommutative irreducible character of a symmetric group.

Abstract:We study mixed local and nonlocal elliptic equation with a variable coefficient $\rho$. Under suitable assumptions on the behaviour at infinity of $\rho$, we obtain uniqueness of solutions belonging to certain weighted Lebsgue spaces, with a weight depending on the coefficient $\rho$. The hypothesis on $\rho$ is optimal; indeed, when it fails we get nonuniqueness of solutions. We also investigate the parabolic counterpart of such equation.

Abstract:We define and study symmetrized and antisymmetrized multivariate exponential functions. They are defined as determinants and antideterminants of matrices whose entries are exponential functions of one variable. These functions are eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator on corresponding fundamental domains satisfying certain boundary conditions. To symmetric and antisymmetric multivariate exponential functions there correspond Fourier transforms. There are three types of such Fourier transforms: expansions into corresponding Fourier series, integral Fourier transforms, and multivariate finite Fourier transforms. Eigenfunctions of the integral Fourier transforms are found.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, Volume 56, Issue 6, Page 6995-7013, December 2024. The present study concerns the nonlocal-to-local convergence of a family of exchange energy functionals in the limit of very short-range interactions. The analysis accounts for both symmetric and antisymmetric exchange. Our result is twofold. First, we extend the Bourgain–Brezis–Mironescu formula to encompass the scenario where antisymmetric contributions are encoded into the energy. Second, we prove that, under physically relevant assumptions on the families of exchange kernels, the family of nonlocal functionals gamma-converges to their local counterparts. As a by-product of our analysis, we obtain a rigorous justification of Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interactions in chiral magnets under the form commonly adopted in the variational theory of micromagnetism when modeling antisymmetric exchange interactions.

Abstract:We give non-symmetric versions of the Cauchy kernel and Littlewood's kernels, corresponding to the types $A_n$, $B_n$, $C_n$ and $D_n$, of the classical groups. We show that these new kernels are diagonal in the basis of two families of key polynomials (one of them being Demazure characters) obtained as images of dominant monomials under isobaric divided differences. We define scalar products such that the two families of key polynomials are adjoint to each other.

Integrability of Nonabelian Differential-Difference Equations: the Symmetry Approach

Abstract:We propose a novel approach to tackle integrability problem for evolutionary differential-difference equations (D$\Delta$Es) on free associative algebras, also referred to as nonabelian D$\Delta$Es. This approach enables us to derive necessary integrability conditions, determine the integrability of a given equation, and make progress in the classification of integrable nonabelian D$\Delta$Es. This work involves establishing symbolic representations for the nonabelian difference algebra, difference operators, and formal series, as well as introducing a novel quasi-local extension for the algebra of formal series within the context of symbolic representations. Applying this formalism, we solve the classification problem of integrable skew-symmetric quasi-linear nonabelian equations of orders $(-1,1)$, $(-2,2)$, and $(-3,3)$, consequently revealing some new equations in the process.

Nonlocal Differential Operators with Integrable, Nonsymmetric Kernels: Part I--Operator Theoretic Properties

Abstract:Recent decades have provided a host of examples and applications motivating the study of nonlocal differential operators. We discuss a class of such operators acting on bounded domains, focusing on those with integrable kernels having compact support. Notably, we make no explicit symmetry assumptions on the kernel and discuss some implications of this decision. We establish a nonlocal-to-local convergence result, showing that these operators coincide with the classical derivative as the nonlocality vanishes. We also provide a new integration by parts result, a characterization of the compactness of these nonlocal operators, an implication for the nonlocal Poincaré inequality, and a variety of examples. This work establishes several key results needed to analyze nonlocal variational problems, given in Part II. We hope that this paper can serve as a relatively gentle introduction to the field of nonlocal modeling.
