Abstract:Urban parks serve as critical spaces for public leisure, and analyzing thermal dynamics in park environments can be crucial for enhancing user experience and facilitating environmental planning. This study investigated the thermal environment of Geum River Park in Sejong City, South Korea, from the perspective of users, by measuring the temperature of frequently used leisure areas such as walkways, exercise areas, and park benches. Unmanned aerial vehicles and thermal infrared sensors were used to construct a precise land use and land cover (LULC) map and perform time-series measurements of land surface temperature (LST). The root mean square error of the constructed orthophoto was 2.7, demonstrating a relatively high accuracy. The LST and precise LULC parameters were measured at 16 points within the park. Of these, the 13 points most frequently used by residents were selected for analysis. The waterside observation deck exhibited the highest LST, with temperatures often exceeding 50 °C during the observation period. Most leisure areas with benches or exercise facilities had record temperatures of 40 °C or higher; grassy expanses had the lowest LSTs. These findings can be used to formulate effective policies on urban park planning and design.
