Abstract:Latz et al. show that the bacterially derived metabolites short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are sensed as danger signals under inflammatory conditions through the NLRP3 inflammasome. Mechanistically, SCFAs inhibited HDACs, causing alterations in transcription that resulted in the loss of cFLIP and IL-10 expression, leading to caspase-8-dependent NLRP3 inflammasome activation.
