Abstract:The vestibular test may trigger some psychosomatic symptoms in adolescents. In order to control these symptoms, some measures such as medicine drug, nutrition and physical activity are used. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of moderate physical exercise program (PEP) on stress levels of high school students. Thus, besides ident ifying the phase and the predominant symptoms of stress, was also analyzed the level of salivary cor tisol. After estimating the prevalence of PAL and t he stress of student population (n = 141) of the 3rd y ear of high school on a private school of Teresina, we selected a sample of all school insufficiently acti ve and stressed, comprised 71 students aged between 17 and 18 years, of both sexes were randomized into ex perimental group (EG) n = 39 and control group (CG) n = 32. Instruments were used: International Physic al Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ-short version), Str ess Scale for Adolescents (ESA) and Salivette ® kit for saliva collection. GE participated in a PEP of moderate intensity (66%to 74% HRmax), for ten weeks consisted of two weekly sessions of 60 minutes. In the sample pre-experiment, the phase and stress symptoms most prevalent were exhaustion and psychological, respectively. In post-experiment the re was an increase of 59% in the absence of phases and symptoms of EG and 34.4% in the exhaustion phase of the GC. The observed level of cortisol concentrations was significantly different between EG and CG after intervention (p <0.001). We conclude, therefore, that exercise of moderate intensity was able to reduce levels of perceived stress and corti sol level in this sample of students.
