We prove the p-adic Cartier isomorphism between the A_inf-cohomology and de Rham-Witt complexes for semistable formal schemes, extending the result of Bhatt-Morrow-Scholze in the smooth case.

Revisiting derived crystalline cohomology

Abstract:We prove that the $\infty$-category of surjections of animated rings is projectively generated, introduce and study the notion of animated PD-pairs - surjections of animated rings with a "derived" PD-structure. This allows us to generalize classical results to non-flat and non-finitely-generated situations. Using animated PD-pairs, we develop several approaches to derived crystalline cohomology and establish comparison theorems. As an application, we generalize the comparison between derived and classical crystalline cohomology from syntomic (affine) schemes (due to Bhatt) to quasisyntomic schemes. We also develop a non-completed animated analogue of prisms and prismatic envelopes. We prove a variant of the Hodge-Tate comparison for animated prismatic envelopes from which we deduce a result about flat cover of the final object for quasisyntomic schemes, which generalizes several known results under smoothness and finiteness conditions.

Abstract:Abstract To understand the p -adic étale cohomology of a proper smooth variety over a p -adic field, Faltings compared it to the cohomology of his ringed topos, by the so-called Faltings’ main p -adic comparison theorem, and then deduced various comparisons with p -adic cohomologies originating from differential forms. In this article, we generalize the former to any proper and finitely presented morphism of coherent schemes over an absolute integral closure of $\mathbb {Z}_p$ (without any smoothness assumption) for torsion abelian étale sheaves (not necessarily finite locally constant). Our proof relies on our cohomological descent for Faltings’ ringed topos, using a variant of de Jong’s alteration theorem for morphisms of schemes due to Gabber–Illusie–Temkin to reduce to the relative case of proper log-smooth morphisms of log-smooth schemes over a complete discrete valuation ring proved by Abbes–Gros. A by-product of our cohomological descent is a new construction of Faltings’ comparison morphism, which does not use Achinger’s results on $K(\pi ,1)$ -schemes.

Abstract:We continue to study the logarithmic prismatic cohomology defined by the first author, and complete the proof of the de Rham comparison and étale comparison generalizing those of Bhatt and Scholze. We prove these comparisons for a derived version of logarithmic prismatic cohomology, and, along the way, we construct a suitable Nygaard filtration and explain a relation between $F$-crystals and $\mathbb{Z}_p$-local systems in the logarithmic setting.

Abstract:Let X be a smooth p-adic formal scheme. We show that integral crystalline local systems on the generic fiber of X are equivalent to prismatic F-crystals over the analytic locus of the prismatic site of X. As an application, we give a prismatic proof of Fontaine's C_crys-conjecture, for general coefficients, in the relative setting, and allowing ramified base fields. Along the way, we also establish various foundational results for the cohomology of prismatic F-crystals, including various comparison theorems, Poincaré duality, and Frobenius isogeny.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop the theory of relative log convergent cohomology. We prove the coherence of relative log convergent cohomology in certain case by using the comparison theorem between relative log convergent cohomlogy and relative log crystalline cohomology, and we relates relative log convergent cohomology to relative rigid cohomology to show the validity of Berthelot's conjecture on the coherence and the overconvergence of relative rigid cohomology for proper smooth families when they admit nice proper log smooth compactification to which the coefficient extends logarithmically.

Abstract:For a smooth and proper scheme over an artinian local ring with ordinary reduction over the perfect residue field we prove - under some general assumptions - that the relative de Rham-Witt spectral sequence degenerates and the relative crystalline cohomology, equipped with its display structure arising from the Nygaard complexes, has a Hodge-Witt decomposition into a direct sum of (suitably Tate-Twisted) multiplicative displays. As examples our main results include the cases of abelian schemes, complete intersections, varieties of K3 type and some Calabi-Yau $n$-folds.

A comparison of Hochschild homology in algebraic and smooth settings

Abstract:Consider a complex affine variety $\tilde V$ and a real analytic Zariski-dense submanifold V of $\tilde V$. We compare modules over the ring $O (\tilde V)$ of regular functions on $\tilde V$ with modules over the ring $C^\infty (V)$ of smooth complex valued functions on V. Under a mild condition on the tangent spaces, we prove that $C^\infty (V)$ is flat as a module over $O (\tilde V)$. From this we deduce a comparison theorem for the Hochschild homology of finite type algebras over $O (\tilde V)$ and the Hochschild homology of similar algebras over $C^\infty (V)$. We also establish versions of these results for functions on $\tilde V$ (resp. V) that are invariant under the action of a finite group G. As an auxiliary result, we show that $C^\infty (V)$ has finite rank as module over $C^\infty (V)^G$.

Abstract:In order to work with non-Nagata rings which are Nagata "up-to-completely-decomposed-universal-homeomorphism", specifically finite rank hensel valuation rings, we introduce the notions of pseudo-integral closure and pseudo-normalisation. We use this notion to give a much more direct and shorter proof that $H^n_{cdh}(X, F) = H^n_{ldh}(X, F)$ for homotopy sheaves $F$ of modules over the $\mathbb{Z}_{(l)}$-linear motivic Eilenberg-Maclane spectrum. This comparison is an alternative to the first half of the authors volume Astérisque 391, whose main theorem is a cdh-descent result for Voevodsky motives. The motivating new insight is really accepting that Voevodsky's motivic cohomology (with $\mathbb{Z}[1/p]$-coefficients) is invariant not just for nilpotent thickenings, but for all universal homeomorphisms.

Abstract:Over any smooth algebraic variety over a p-adic local field k, we construct the de Rham comparison isomorphisms for the étale cohomology with partial compact support of de Rham ℤ_p -local systems, and show that they are compatible with Poincaré duality and with the canonical morphisms among such cohomology. We deduce these results from their analogues for rigid analytic varieties that are Zariski open in some proper smooth rigid analytic varieties over k. In particular, we prove finiteness of étale cohomology with partial compact support of any ℤ_p -local systems, and establish the Poincaré duality for such cohomology after inverting p.

Abstract:We prove that rigid cohomology can be computed as the cohomology of a site analogous to the crystalline site. Berthelot designed rigid cohomology as a common generalization of crystalline and Monsky-Washnitzer cohomology. Unfortunately, unlike the former, the functoriality of the theory is not built-in. We defined somewhere else the "overconvergent site" which is functorially attached to an algebraic variety and proved that the category of modules of finite presentation on this ringed site is equivalent to the category of over- convergent isocrystals on the variety. We show here that their cohomology also coincides.

Abstract:We consider the algebra $A^0 (X)$ of polynomial functions on a simplicial complex $X$. The algebra $A^0 (X)$ is the $0$th component of Sullivan's dg-algebra $A^\bullet (X)$ of polynomial forms on $X$. Our main interest lies in computing the de Rham cohomology of the algebra $A^0(X)$, that is, the cohomology of the universal dg-algebra $\Omega ^\bullet _{A^0(X)}$. There is a canonical morphism of dg-algebras $P:\Omega ^\bullet _{A^0(X)} \to A^\bullet (X)$. We prove that $P$ is a quasi-isomorphism. Therefore, the de Rham cohomology of the algebra $A^0 (X)$ is canonically isomorphic to the cohomology of the simplicial complex $X$ with coefficients in $k$. Moreover, for $k=\mathbb{Q}$ the dg-algebra $\Omega ^\bullet _{A^0 (X)}$ is a model of the simplicial complex $X$ in the sense of rational homotopy theory.

A note on étale $(φ,Γ)$-modules in families

Abstract:Let $\Lambda$ be a complete noetherian local ring with finite residue field of characteristic $p$ and $K/\mathbb{Q}_p$ a $p$-adic field. We show that, by deformation of the structure sheaf on the (transversal) prismatic site of a bounded $p$-adic formal scheme $\mathfrak{X}$, the category of prismatic $(\Lambda,F)$-crystals on $\mathfrak{X}$ is equivalent to $\Lambda$-étale local systems on the generic adic fiber of $\mathfrak{X}$ and that the cohomology of $(\Lambda,F)$-crystals recovers the pro-étale cohomology of the corresponding local systems. The proof follows the strategy used in \cite{bhatt2023prismatic} and \cite{marks2023prismatic}. From this we construct an isomorphism between Iwasawa cohomology of a $p$-adic Lie extension of $K$ and prismatic cohomology. Following \cite{wu2021galois}, we then reprove Dee's classical result \cite{article} on the equivalence between families of Galois representations and étale $(\varphi,\Gamma)$-modules.

Abstract:Deep Very Large Array radio observations are presented for the REFLEX clusters RXCJ0437.1+0043 and RXCJ1314.4-2515. They are at similar distance and show similar X-ray luminosity, but they are quite different in X-ray structure. Indeed RXCJ0437.1+0043 is regular and relaxed, whereas RXCJ1314.4-2515 is characterized by substructure and possible merging processes. The radio images reveal no diffuse emission in RXCJ0437.1+0043, and a complex diffuse structure in RXCJ1314.4-2515. The diffuse source in the latter cluster consists of a central radio halo which extends to the West toward the cluster periphery and bends to the North to form a possible relic. Another extended source is detected in the eastern cluster peripheral region. Although there could be plausible optical identifications for this source, it might also be a relic candidate owing to its very steep spectrum. The present results confirm the tight link between diffuse cluster radio sources and cluster merger processes.
