What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem this paper attempts to address is: how to prepare antifreeze hydrogels through bionic strategies to overcome the issue of traditional hydrogels losing functionality at low temperatures. Specifically, due to their high water content, hydrogels are prone to freezing at low temperatures, resulting in the loss of conductivity, transparency, flexibility, and other excellent properties. This limits the application range of hydrogels in practical uses such as flexible electronics and sensors. Therefore, the paper reviews the research progress on antifreeze hydrogels in recent years, introducing various synthesis strategies, including the addition of salts, alcohols, ionic liquids, and modifications of polymer networks. It discusses the advantages and disadvantages of these strategies and their application prospects in broadening the temperature range. Finally, the paper proposes future development directions for antifreeze hydrogels, aiming to provide researchers with a quick understanding of antifreeze hydrogels and their related synthesis strategies, inspire new research ideas, and promote further expansion of hydrogel application fields.
