Abstract:We prove that if A is a subset of the primes, and the lower density of A in the primes is larger than 1/2, then every sufficiently large even integer can be written as the sum of eight primes from A. The constant 1/2 in this statement is the best possible.

Abstract:In 1975 F. Cohen and J.L. Selfridge found a 94-digit positive integer which cannot be written as the sum or difference of two prime powers. Following their basic construction and introducing a new method to avoid a bunch of extra congruences, we are able to prove that if x = 47867742232066880047611079 (mod 66483034025018711639862527490), then x is not of the form +/-p(a) +/-q(b) where p, q are primes and a, b are nonnegative integers.

Abstract:In this paper we construct a cover {a(s) (mod n(s))}(s=1)(k) of Z with odd moduli such that there are distinct Primes p(1),...,p(k) dividing 2(n1) - 1,...,2(nk) - 1 respectively. Using this cover we show that for any positive integer m divisible by none of 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 there exists an infinite arithmetic progression of positive odd integers the mth powers of whose terms are never of the form 2(n) +/- p(a) with a, n is an element of {0, 1, 2,...} and p a prime. We also construct another cover of Z with odd moduli and use it to prove that x(2) - F-3n/2 has at least two distinct prime factors whenever n is an element of {0, 1, 2,...} and x equivalent to a (mod M), where {F-i}(i >= 0) is the Fibonacci sequence, and a and M are suitable positive integers having 80 decimal digits.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the transference principle to investigate the representation of sufficiently large positive integers as the sum of prime powers and integer powers, where the primes are drawn from a positive density subset of the set of all primes , and the integer powers are drawn from a positive density subset of k-th powers.

Abstract:We study whether sufficiently large integers can be written in the form cp+T_x, where p is either zero or a prime congruent to r mod d, and T_x=x(x+1)/2 is a triangular number. We also investigate whether there are infinitely many positive integers not of the form (2^ap-r)/m+T_x with p a prime and x an integer. Besides two theorems, the paper also contains several conjectures together with related analysis and numerical data. One of our conjectures states that each natural number not equal to 216 can be written in the form p+T_x with x an integer and p a prime or zero; another conjecture asserts that any odd integer n>3 can be written in the form p+x(x+1) with p a prime and x a positive integer.

Abstract:A positive integer n is called a covering number if there are some distinct divisors n_1,...,n_k of n greater than one and some integers a_1,...,a_k such that Z is the union of the residue classes a_1(mod n_1),...,a_k(mod n_k). A covering number is said to be primitive if none of its proper divisors is a covering number. In this paper we give some sufficient conditions for n to be a (primitive) covering number; in particular, we show that for any r=2,3,... there are infinitely many primitive covering numbers having exactly r distinct prime divisors. In 1980 P. Erdos asked whether there are infinitely many positive integers n such that among the subsets of D_n={d>1: d|n} only D_n can be the set of all the moduli in a cover of Z with distinct moduli; we answer this question affirmatively. We also conjecture that any primitive covering number must have a prime factorization p_1^{alpha_1}...p_r^{alpha_r} (with p_1,...,p_r in a suitable order) which satisfies $\prod_{0<t<s}(alpha_t+1)\ge p_s-1$ for each s=1,...,r, with strict inequality when s=r.

Abstract:AbstractIn 1950 Erdös proved that if $x\equiv2\,036\,812\ (\mo5\,592\,405)$ and $x\equiv3\ (\mo62)$, then $x$ is not of the form $2^n+p$, where $n$ is a non-negative integer and $p$ is a prime. Abstract:Let [Formula: see text] be a positive integer, and define [Formula: see text] for [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text] denotes the number of distinct prime factors of [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text] represents the total number of prime factors of [Formula: see text] (counted with multiplicity). In this paper, we study these two zeta functions and related arithmetical functions. We show that [Formula: see text] which is similar to the known identity [Formula: see text] equivalent to the Prime Number Theorem. For [Formula: see text], we prove that [Formula: see text] We also raise a hypothesis on the parities of [Formula: see text] which implies the Riemann Hypothesis.

Abstract:In this paper we study practical numbers of some special forms. For any integers b >= 0 and c > 0, we show that if n(2) + bn + c is practical for some integer n > 1, then there are infinitely many nonnegative integers n with n2 + bn + c practical. We also prove that there are infinitely many practical numbers of the form q(4) + 2 with q practical, and that there are infinitely many practical Pythagorean triples (a; b; c) with gcd(a; b; c) = 6 (or gcd(a; b; c) = 4).

Abstract:In this paper, we study a density version of the Waring-Goldbach problem. Suppose that A is a subset of the primes, and the lower density of A in the primes is larger than 1-1/2k. We prove that every sufficiently large natural number n satisfying the necessary congruence condition can be expressed as a sum of s terms of the k-th powers of primes from set A, where s is a positive integer dependent on k.

Abstract:Let $f(t_1,\ldots,t_n)$ be a nondegenerate integral quadratic form. We analyze the asymptotic behavior of the function $D_f(X)$, the number of integers of absolute value up to $X$ represented by $f$. When $f$ is isotropic or $n$ is at least $3$, we show that there is a $\delta(f) \in \mathbb{Q} \cap (0,1)$ such that $D_f(X) \sim \delta(f) X$ and call $\delta(f)$ the density of $f$. We consider the inverse problem of which densities arise. Our main technical tool is a Near Hasse Principle: a quadratic form may fail to represent infinitely many integers that it locally represents, but this set of exceptions has density $0$ within the set of locally represented integers.

Abstract:In this paper, we study partitions of positive integers with restrictions involving squares. We mainly establish the following two results (which were conjectured by Sun in 2013): (i) Each positive integer $n$ can be written as $n=x+y+z$ with $x,y,z$ positive integers such that $x^2+y^2+z^2$ is a square, unless $n$ has the form $n=2^{a}3^{b}$ or $2^{a}7$ with $a$ and $b$ nonnegative integers. (ii) Each integer $n>7$ with $n\not=11,14,17$ can be written as $n=x+y+2z$ with $x,y,z$ positive integers such that $x^2+y^2+2z^2$ is a square.
