Abstract:Current limitations of cancer therapy include the lack of effective strategy for target delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs, and the difficulty of achieving significant efficacy by single treatment. Herein, we reported a synergistic chemo-photothermal strategy based on aptamer (Apt)-polydopamine (pD) functionalized CA-(PCL-ran-PLA) nanoparticles (NPs) for effective delivery of docetaxel (DTX) and enhanced therapeutic effect. The developed DTX-loaded Apt-pD-CA-(PCL-ran-PLA) NPs achieved promising advantages, such as (i) improved drug loading content (LC) and encapsulation efficiency (EE) initiated by star-shaped copolymer CA-(PCL-ran-PLA); (ii) effective target delivery of drugs to tumor sites by incorporating AS1411 aptamers; (iii) significant therapeutic efficacy caused by synergistic chemo-photothermal treatment. In addition, the pD coating strategy with simple procedures could address the contradiction between targeting modification and maintaining formerly excellent bio-properties. Therefore, with excellent bio-properties and simple preparation procedures, the DTX-loaded Apt-pD-CA-(PCL-ran-PLA) NPs effectively increased the local drug concentration in tumor sites, minimized side effects, and significantly eliminated tumors, indicating the promising application of these NPs for cancer therapy.
Bio-responsive Bletilla Striata Polysaccharide-Based Micelles for Enhancing Intracellular Docetaxel Delivery

Abstract:The aim of this study was to design a pH- and redox-dual responsive Bletilla striata polysaccharide (BSP)-based copolymer to enhance anti-tumor drugs release at tumor sites and improve the therapeutic effect. The copolymer was synthesized using stearic acid (SA) and cystamine via a disulfide linkage and characterized using 1H-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy and Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy. The BSP-ss-SA copolymer could self-assemble into micelle in an aqueous environment and could encapsulate docetaxel therein. Its inhibitory effects on HepG2 cells and 4 T1 cells were determined. Besides, the anti-cancer effects in vivo and histopathological study of 4 T1-bearing tumor mice were also evaluated. Docetaxel-loaded BSP-ss-SA micelles showed significant pH-sensitive release behavior, supplying a greater drug release percentage in pH 5.0 media compared to pH 7.4 media. BSP-ss-SA micelles exhibited a clear redox-responsive release property in pH 7.4 media whereas the similar cumulative release percentage of docetaxel from BSP-ss-SA micelles in pH 5.0 media in the presence and absence of DL-dithiothreitol. The Docetaxel-loaded BSP-ss-SA micelles clearly inhibited the proliferation of HepG2 and 4 T1 cells compared with docetaxel solution. The results of MTT and histopathological study indicated that BSP-ss-SA copolymer exhibited good blood compatibility. The BSP-ss-SA copolymer may be used as carriers to deliver anti-tumor drugs to special tumor tissues.

Abstract:Polymeric micelles hold great promise in nanocarrier delivery systems for anticancer drugs. A mixed micelle composed of deoxycholic acid-modified chitooligosaccharide (COS-DOCA) and methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-polylactide copolymer (mPEG-PDLLA) was designed and synthesized for encapsulation of paclitaxel. The PTX-loaded mixed micelles have high drug-loading efficiency and encapsulation efficiency as well as small size (∼40nm) and narrow size distribution. The PTX-loaded COS-DOCA/mPEG-PDLLA mixed micelles showed the enhanced antitumor efficacy in A549 lung xenograft model.

Abstract:To improve the antitumor efficacy of doxorubicin (DOX) and provide novel clinical treatment of gastric cancer, halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) loaded with DOX were encapsulated by soybean phospholipid (LIP) and the formed HNTs/DOX/LIP was systematically characterized via different techniques. The in vitro anticancer activity of HNTs/DOX/LIP was examined using an MTT assay. The antitumor efficacy and biocompatibility were monitored by measuring the tumor volume and assessing the blood routine and serum biochemistry using an ectopic implantation cancer model. The results show that when the concentration of HNTs was 3 mg/mL and the concentration of DOX was 1 mg/mL the optimal DOX loading efficiency was as high as 22.01%±0.43%. In vitro drug release behavior study demonstrated that HNTs/DOX/LIP shows a pH-responsive release property with fast drug release under acidic conditions (pH =5.4). MTT assays and in vivo experimental results revealed that HNTs/DOX/LIP exhibits a significantly higher inhibitory efficacy on the growth of mouse gastric cancer cells than free DOX at the same drug concentration. In addition, the life span of tumor-bearing mice in the HNTs/DOX/LIP-treated group was obviously prolonged compared with the control groups. Moreover, HNTs/DOX/LIP possessed excellent hemocompatibility as shown in the blood and histology studies. These findings indicated that the formed HNTs/DOX/LIP possesses higher antitumor efficacy and may be used as a targeted delivery nanoplatform for targeting therapy of different types of cancer cells.

Abstract:Chemically functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) have shown promise in tumor targeted accumulation in mice and exhibit biocompatibility, excretion and little toxicity. Here, we demonstrate in-vivo SWNT drug delivery for tumor suppression in mice. We conjugate paclitaxel (PTX), a widely used cancer chemotherapy drug to branched polyethylene-glycol (PEG) chains on SWNTs via a cleavable ester bond to obtain a water soluble SWNT-paclitaxel conjugate (SWNT-PTX). SWNT-PTX affords higher efficacy in suppressing tumor growth than clinical Taxol in a murine 4T1 breast-cancer model, owing to prolonged blood circulation and 10-fold higher tumor PTX uptake by SWNT delivery likely through enhanced permeability and retention (EPR). Drug molecules carried into the reticuloendothelial system are released from SWNTs and excreted via biliary pathway without causing obvious toxic effects to normal organs. Thus, nanotube drug delivery is promising for high treatment efficacy and minimum side effects for future cancer therapy with low drug doses.
Development and Characterization of Paclitaxel-Loaded Li-pid-Coated Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles for Ph-Responsive Tumor-Targeted Drug Delivery

Abstract:Nanoparticle carriers can selectively deliver the drug cargo to tumor cells, thus having the ability to pre-vent early drug release, reduce non-specific cell binding, and prolong in vivo drug retention. We con-structed paclitaxel (PTX)-loaded lipid-shell mesoporous silica nanoparticles (LMSNs) for targeted an-ti-cancer drug delivery. The physical properties of PTX-LMSNs were analyzed by scanning electron mi-croscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The drug loading (DL%) and entrapment efficiency (EE%) of PTX-LMSNs were measured by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). In vitro drug release test, in vivo imaging, tissue distribution and pharmacokinetics of PTX-LMSNs were also evaluated. The SEM examination showed that MSNs were sphere, whereas TEM showed that they were rich in fine pores. The uniform core-shell structure of PTX-LMSNs was also verified by TEM. The DL capacity of PTX-LMSN was as high as 21.75%, and PTX was released from the nanoparticles in vitro in a pH-dependent manner. The cumulative amount of free PTX increased at lower pH, which is conducive to selective drug release from LMSNs in the acidic tumor tissues. In vivo imaging showed prolonged reten-tion of PTX-LMSNs, which is beneficial to their therapeutic efficacy. In addition, PTX-LMSNs were primarily concentrated in the liver. Pharmacokinetic experiments showed that the half-life of PTX-LMSNs was 23.21% longer and 79.24% higher than that of Taxol. Together, LMSNs are a highly promising antineoplastic drug carrier system.

Abstract:The efficacy of hydrophobic chemotherapy drugs in cancer treatment is often hampered by their poor solubility in the physiological environment, which causes their low delivery efficiency in the body. This manuscript develops an intelligent nanocarrier (∼100 nm) drug delivery system that can highly load a water-insoluble drug, and possesses desirable tumor-targeting properties for cancer therapy. In this system, highly porous silica nanoparticles (pore volume ∼1.4 cm3 g-1) with a dendritic pore structure (denoted as DMSN) are applied as a matrix for drug loading. A facile, vacuum rotary evaporation-mediated casting method is applied to quantitatively load a high content of a hydrophobic drug (i.e., paclitaxel) in the DMSN matrix. A thiol-modified poly(methacrylic acid) (denoted as PMAsh) shell is then assembled and crosslinked via disulfide bonds on the particle surface to improve the dispersibility of the particles in an aqueous environment. After functionalization of the PMAsh shell with the targeting ligand transferrin (Tf), the nanocarriers exhibit accumulation ability on tumor cells, both in vitro and in vivo. Combining the fascinating properties of high drug-loading, excellent colloidal stability, low cytotoxicity, targeting ability and glutathione-responsive PMAsh shell deconstruction properties, the nanocarriers described here hold great promise for the efficient delivery of hydrophobic drugs and tumor treatment.

Abstract:In recent years, nanotechnology has made great progress in the development and application of tumor detection, diagnosis, and treatment, and eventually formed a "tumor nanomedicine." The emerging field of "materials." Nanoparticles have attracted much attention because they can overcome physiological barriers, effectively deliver hydrophobic drugs, and specifically target tumor tissues. At present, nanomedicines mainly include lipid nanoparticles, polymer nanoparticles granules, gold nanoparticles, magnetic nanoparticles, mesoporous silica, and other dosage forms. The use of nanomaterials as carriers in the treatment of lung cancer has unique advantages in achieving targeted drug delivery, slow-release drugs, and improvement of poorly soluble drugs and peptide drugs show obvious advantages in terms of bioavailability and reduction of adverse reactions, and have broad research and development prospects. This paper reports a new type of self-assembled Ptx-SA drug-loaded nanometers based on the carrier-free concept fiber, and it was found that the drug-loaded fiber has better cellophilicity, anti-tumor effect in vitro and in vivo than naked drug, and may be mediated by regulating the expression of related proteins. Therefore, the paclitaxel-loaded nano drug delivery system serves as a new type of nano preparation for treating lung cancer is worth further research.

Oxidized Meosporous Carbon Nanospheres As Carriers for Paclitaxel

Abstract:Objective To prepare oxidized mesoporous carbon nanospheres and investigate potential application as drug delivery carriers for paclitaxel.Methods Physicochemical properties such as morphology,diameter,pore diameter and pore volume were characterized.Drug-loading capacity was measured and drug release behavior in vitro was investigated by dialysis method.In vitro antitumour effect was evaluated by CCK-8 methods.Results The synthesized oxidized mesoporous carbon nanospheres had an average diameter of 140 nm,Zeta potential of-36 mV,high specific surface area of 704.63 m2/g,high drug-loading capacity of 45.6%.Conclusion Oxidized mesoporous carbon nanospheres have promising application in anti-cancer drug delivery system.

Abstract:As a structural analog of graphene and boron nitride, hexagonal boron carbonitride nanosheets (BCNNSs) are supposed to be a potential drug deliverer. In the present work, an improved solid-state reaction method combined with ultrasonic exfoliating was reported for preparing BCNNSs. Vapor-solid (VS) mechanism was proposed to be responsible for the formation of BCNNSs. The BCNNSs were further modified by DSPE-mPEG-5000 to improve their dispersion in aqueous solution. It was found that the BCNNSs-PEG nanocomplex could be efficiently taken in by MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells evidenced by inverted fluorescence microscopy. The PEGylated BCNNSs showed an outstanding ability to load paclitaxel through π-π interaction and hydrophobic interaction, and BCNNSs-PEG-loaded paclitaxel presented higher cytotoxicity in comparison with free paclitaxel. BCNNSs may become a promising candidate for delivering paclitaxel and other hydrophobic drugs.
Bridged bis(beta-cyclodextrin)s-based polysaccharide nanoparticles for controlled paclitaxel delivery

Abstract:The lack of effective and specific carriers is generally considered as the main obstacle hindering further clinical applications in cancer therapy. In this work, a novel polysaccharide nanocarrier was successfully constructed by the noncovalent complexation of disulfide-containing bridged bis(beta-cyclodextrin)s with adamantane-grafted hyaluronic acid. Possessing a three-dimensional hydrophobic microenvironment, the obtained binary nanoparticles could serve as a biocompatible platform for the loading and solubilizing of paclitaxel. More interestingly, spectroscopic and microscopic experiments revealed that the hydrophobic drug could be completely released from the nanocarrier through disulfide bond cleavage and enzymatic degradation. In addition, the active hyaluronic acid units endowed the resultant nanoparticles with desirable cell-specific targeting ability, thus leading to a relatively better anticancer activity toward tumor cells than free paclitaxel. We envision that the present work will provide a new method in the fabrication of more advanced macrocycle-based drug carriers.
PEGylated Lipid Bilayer Coated Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles for Co-Delivery of Paclitaxel and Curcumin: Design, Characterization and Its Cytotoxic Effect

Abstract:Highly ordered mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) with pore diameter of 2.754nm and particle size of 115±15nm were prepared with etching method. Homogeneous PEGylated lipid bilayer with 10-15nm thickness was coated around the surface of MSNs using film hydration method. Systematic optimization and characterization of co-encapsulation process of paclitaxel (Tax) and curcumin (Cur) into PEGylated lipid bilayer coated mesoporous silica nanoparticles (PLMSNs) were performed carrying out single factor test, associated with Box-Behnken Design. The concentration of encapsulated drugs was measured by reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method. Optimal factor settings were as follows: 50mg MSNs, ratio of MSNs to lipid (w/w)=1:1.11, and ratio of lipid to CHO (w/w)=3.93:1. The average experimental EETax, EECur and stability score value were (77.48±2.73) %, (30.70±3.56) % and 4 point respectively based on the conditions mentioned above. Morphology determination of Tax-Cur-PLMSNs revealed that the composite nanoparticles were spherical particals with uniform dispersion. In vitro release experiment indicated that PLMSNs improved dissolution of Tax compared to Tax powder suspension and exhibited sustained release property. Tax-Cur-PLMSNs manifested definite and persistently promoted cytotoxic effect against canine breast cancer cells. This prolonged and enhanced activity of Tax-Cur-PLMSNs might contribute to its sustained release effect.
Synthesis of Nanoparticles of Star-Shaped Mannitol-Core Pla-Tpgs Copolymer for Delivery of Paclitaxel and Activity of Anti-Prostate Cancer

Abstract:The objective of this research is to fabricate novel nanoparticles (NPs) of star-shaped mannitol-functionalized polylactic acid-D-alpha-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 suclinat(PLA-TPGS) copolymer for paclitaxel delivery for prostate cancer treatment, and evaluate their therapeutic effects in prostate cancer cell line in comparison with the linear PLGA NPs and PLA-TPGS NPs. The paclitaxel-loaded M-PLA-TPGS NPs, prepared by a modified nano-precipitation method, were observed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) to be near-spherical shape with narrow size distribution. The drug-loaded NPs were further characterized in terms of size, surface charge, drug content, encapsulation efficiency and in vitro drug release. In vitro drug release exhibited biphasic pattern with initial burst release followed by slow and continuous release. The cellular uptake level of M-PLA-TPGS NPs was demonstrated higher than linear PLGA NPs and PLA-TPGS NPs in PC-3 cells. The data also showed that the paclitaxel-loaded M-PLA-TPGS nanoparticles have higher antitumor efficacy than that of linear PLA-TPGS nanoparticles and commercial Taxol in vitro. The star-shaped copolymer M-PLA-TPGS could be used as a potential and promising molecular biomaterial applied in developing novel nanoformulation for prostate cancer treatment.

Abstract:Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are widely used in drug delivery systems (DDSs) due to their unique chemical and physical properties. Investigation of interactions between biomolecules and CNTs is an interesting and important subject in biological applications. In this study, we used molecular dynamics (MD) simulation to investigate the adsorption mechanism of the anticancer drug paclitaxel (PTX) on pristine and functionalized CNTs (f-CNT) in aqueous solutions. Our theoretical results show that PTX can be adsorbed on sidewalls of CNT in different methods. In the case of f-CNTs, PTX can be adsorbed on the functional groups due to the existence of polar interactions. These interactions in the CNT functionalized with polyethylene glycol (PEG), are more than the other investigated systems. Furthermore, it was found that the solubility of CNTs in aqueous solution is increased by functionalization. This is related to the intermolecular hydrogen bonds between functional groups and solvent molecules. The PEG group has the greatest effect on the solubility of the CNT in aqueous solution due to more polar interactions.

Abstract:Herein, polymeric micelles with glycolipid-like structure and about 40 nm diameter are prepared by self-aggregation from stearate-grafted chitosan oligosaccharides in aqueous medium. The micelles, with high degree of substitution (DS), present specific spatial structure with multiple hydrophobic "minor cores", and thus obtain excellent internalization into cancer cells and accumulation in cytoplasm. Furthermore, the micelles showed pH-sensitive properties, thus favoring intracellular delivery of encapsulated drug via endocytosis. The cell cytotoxicity of paclitaxel encapsulated in micelles was improved sharply and contributed to the increased intracellular delivery of the drug. The present micelles are a promising carrier candidate for targeting therapy of antitumor drugs with a cytoplasmic molecule target.
Fabrication of Magnetite Hollow Porous Nanocrystal Shells As A Drug Carrier for Paclitaxel

Abstract:A facile and simple route is employed to synthesise a new type of magnetite hollow porous nanocrystal shells (HPNSs) as hydrophobic drug delivery vehicles. The morphological evolution of spherical clusters from solid to hollow porous shells is controlled in a straightforward fashion through the reaction time. The obtained magnetite HPNSs possesses high magnetization, well-defined structure, and porous shell, the channels and cavity in HPNSs benefit the drug storage, delivery, and release. The structure of HPNSs was characterized by SEM, TEM and XRD, VSM (vibrating sample magnetometer) data showed that the saturation magnetization values of the Fe3O4 HPNSs are 67.5, 73.2, 79.4, and 88.7 emu/g, corresponding to reaction times of 6, 8, 12, and 16.5 h, respectively. This result clearly proved that the crystallinity could be improved by Ostwald ripening of nanocrystals through a dissolution-recrystallization process, the formation of the hollow porous structure was promoted as well. FT-IR and TGA results showed that the porous shell facilitated paclitaxel diffusion into the cavity of hollow structure, and the drug loading of magnetite HPNSs for paclitaxel is very high (20.2 wt%). The antitumor efficacy of the drug-loaded HPNSs measured by a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay was clearly enhanced, compared with free drugs.
Interface-Engineered Paclitaxel-Based Hollow Mesoporous Organosilica Nanoplatforms for Photothermal-Enhanced Chemotherapy of Tumor

Abstract:Having benefited from the combination of different therapeutic modalities, functionalized nanoplatforms with synergistic strategies have aroused great interest in anticancer treatment. Herein, an engineered, a biodegradable hollow mesoporous organosilica nanoparticle (HMON)-based nanoplatform was fabricated for photothermal-enhanced chemotherapy of tumor. For the first time, we demonstrated that HMONs could serve as nanocarriers for co-delivering of both the paclitaxel and photothermal agent new indocyanine green (IR820), denoted as Paclitaxel/IR820@ HMONs-PEG. The as-prepared nanosystem exhibited a high paclitaxel-loading capacity of 28.4%, much higher than most paclitaxel-loaded nanoformulations. Furthermore, incorporating thioether bonds (S-S) into the HMONs' framework endowed them with GSH-responsive biodegradation behavior, leading to the controllable release of drugs under a tumor reducing microenvironment, and hindered the premature release of paclitaxel. Upon being irradiated with an NIR laser, the obtained co-delivery nanosystem exhibited great photothermal properties generated from IR820. The fabricated nanocomposites could significantly suppress tumor growth under NIR laser irradiation, as validated by in vitro and in vivo assessments. Combined with outstanding biocompatibility, the constructed nanosystem holds great potential in combinational antitumor therapy.
Endosomal pH-Responsive Polymer-Based Dual-Ligand-Modified Micellar Nanoparticles for Tumor Targeted Delivery and Facilitated Intracellular Release of Paclitaxel

Abstract:Purpose The purpose of the present study was to design and fabricate endosomal pH-sensitive dual-ligand-modified micellar nanoparticles to achieve enhanced drug delivery to tumor cells and facilitated intracellular drug release. Methods End-group-carboxylated poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline)-poly(D,L-lactide) and cyclic Arg-Gly-Asp-Tyr-Lys- and anti-prostate specific membrane antigen antibody-modified diblock copolymer poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline)-poly(D,L-lactide) were synthesized and characterized by 1 H NMR and gel permeation chromatography, and self-assembled into micelles. Paclitaxel-loaded dual-ligand-modified micelles were prepared by thin-film hydration method, and characterized by dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscope, pH-dependent in vitro release and stability. Intracellular paclitaxel delivery was measured by flow cytometry and imaged by confocal microscopy. In vitro cytotoxicity was studied in the 22Rv1 xenograft prostate tumor cell lines. Results The prepared dual-ligand-modified micelles with about 30 nm in diameter and rapid intracellular drug release behavior at endo/lysosomal pH were very effective in enhancing the cytotoxicity of paclitaxel against 22Rv1 cells by increasing the cellular uptake, which was verified the correlation with the expression of integrin α v β 3 and prostate specific membrane antigen in tumor cells by flow cytometric analysis and confocal microscopy, compared with single ligand-modified micelles. Conclusion These findings provided valuable information that the application of combining of dual-ligand modifications with pH-sensitivity to polymeric micelles may be a promising approach in the efficient delivery of anticancer drugs for treatment of integrin α v β 3 and prostate specific membrane antigen expressing prostate cancers.
Study on the Mechanism of Action of Paclitaxel-Loaded Polylactic-co-glycolic Acid Nanoparticles in Non-Small-Cell Lung Carcinoma Cells

Abstract:Objective: To study effective carriers that can enhance the antitumor effect of paclitaxel (PTX). Methods: PTX-loaded polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) (PTX-PLGA NPs), constructed using the emulsification solvent evaporation method, were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and dynamic light scattering. Non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) cells were divided into the dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) group, PLGA NPs group, PTX group, and PTX-PLGA NPs group. Cell viability was detected by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT), cell apoptosis was determined by flow cytometry, and cell migration and invasion were assessed using Transwell assay. Results: PTX-PLGA NPs were smooth in the surface and spherical in shape, with a particle size of 268 ± 1.3 nm. Both PTX and PTX-PLGA NPs could effectively inhibit the activity of A549 and H1650 cells. At 12 and 24 h, PTX-PLGA NPs presented weaker inhibition on the activity of NSCLC cells than PTX, but at 48 and 72 h, PTX-PLGA NPs presented stronger inhibition. Compared with PTX, PTX-PLGA NPs were more effective in enhancing apoptosis and inhibiting migration and invasion of NSCLC cells. Conclusion: With good sustained release and the ability to promote cellular uptake, PTX-PLGA NPs can strongly inhibit the malignant activities of NSCLC cells, which can be used as a promising drug carrier.
Biocompatibility and paclitaxel/cisplatin dual-loading of nanotubes prepared from poly(ethylene glycol)-polylactide-poly(ethylene glycol) triblock copolymers for combination cancer therapy

Abstract:Nanotubes were prepared by self-assembly of the copolymer using co-solvent evaporation method. The biocompatibility of the nanotubes was assessed in comparison with spherical micelles and filomicelles prepared from poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PEG-PLGA) and poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(L-lactide) (PEG-PLA), respectively. Several aspects of biocompatibility of the aggregates were considered, including agar diffusion and MTT assay, release of cytokines, hemolysis, protein adsorption, dynamic clotting in vitro, and Zebrafish embryonic compatibility in vivo. The nanotubes present good cell compatibility and blood compatibility in vitro, and almost no toxicity towards Zebrafish embryos development in vivo. Furthermore, dual-loading of hydrophilic cisplatin and hydrophobic paclitaxel was achieved in the nanotubes with high loading content and loading efficiency. The release of both drugs was slower from dual-loaded nanotubes than from single-loaded ones, but the total amount of released drugs in higher for dual-loaded nanotubes than from single-loaded ones. Cellular uptake and inhibition tests showed that the nanotubes were successfully taken up by tumor cells and effectively inhibited cell growth. It is thus concluded that PEG-PLA-PEG nanotubes with outstanding biocompatibility could be promising for co-delivery of hydrophilic and hydrophobic agents in combination cancer therapy.
