Abstract:It is shown that Weng's zeta functions associated with arbitrary semisimple algebraic groups defined over the rational number field and their maximal parabolic subgroups satisfy the functional equations.

Abstract:DNA adsorption and naturation is modeled via two interacting flexible homopolymers coupled to a solid surface. DNA denatures if the entropy gain for unbinding the two strands overcomes the loss of binding energy. When adsorbed to a surface, the entropy gain is smaller than in the bulk, leading to a stronger binding and, upon neglecting self-avoidance, absence of a denatured phase. Now consider conditions where the binding potentials are too weak for naturation, and the surface potential too weak to adsorb single strands. In a variational approach it is shown that their combined action may lead to a naturated adsorbed phase. Conditions for the absence of naturation and adsorption are derived too. The phase diagram is constructed qualitatively.

Abstract:The exceptional group $G_2$ has two maximal parabolic subgroups $P_{long}$, $P_{short}$ corresponding to the so-called long root and short root. In this paper, the second author introduces two zeta functions associated to $(G_2,P_{long})$ and $(G_2,P_{short})$ respectively, and the first author proves that these zetas satisfy the Riemann Hypothesis.

Abstract:We study representation zeta functions of finitely generated, torsion-free nilpotent groups which are rational points of unipotent group schemes over rings of integers of number fields. Using the Kirillov orbit method and p-adic integration, we prove rationality and functional equations for almost all local factors of the Euler products of these zeta functions. We further give explicit formulae, in terms of Dedekind zeta functions, for the zeta functions of class-2-nilpotent groups obtained from three infinite families of group schemes, generalising the integral Heisenberg group. As an immediate corollary, we obtain precise asymptotics for the representation growth of these groups, and key analytic properties of their zeta functions, such as meromorphic continuation. We express the local factors of these zeta functions in terms of generating functions for finite Weyl groups of type B. This allows us to establish a formula for the joint distribution of three functions, or 'statistics', on such Weyl groups. Finally, we compare our explicit formulae to p-adic integrals associated to relative invariants of three infinite families of prehomogeneous vector spaces.

Abstract:Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, and $k[[z]]$ the ring of formal power series over $k$. In this paper, we study equations in the semigroup $z^2k[[z]]$ with the semigroup operation being composition. We prove a number of general results about such equations and provide some applications. In particular, we answer a question of Horwitz and Rubel about decompositions of ``even'' formal power series. We also show that every right amenable subsemigroup of $z^2k[[z]]$ is conjugate to a subsemigroup of the semigroup of monomials.

Zeta elements for elliptic curves and applications

Abstract:Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ with conductor $N$ and $p\nmid 2N$ a prime. Let $L$ be an imaginary quadratic field with $p$ split. We prove the existence of $p$-adic zeta element for $E$ over $L$, encoding two different $p$-adic $L$-functions associated to $E$ over $L$ via explicit reciprocity laws at the primes above $p$. We formulate a main conjecture for $E$ over $L$ in terms of the zeta element, mediating different main conjectures in which the $p$-adic $L$-functions appear, and prove some results toward them. The zeta element has various applications to the arithmetic of elliptic curves. This includes a proof of main conjecture for semistable elliptic curves $E$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ at supersingular primes $p$, as conjectured by Kobayashi in 2002. It leads to the $p$-part of the conjectural Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) formula for such curves of analytic rank zero or one, and enables us to present the first infinite families of non-CM elliptic curves for which the BSD conjecture is true. We provide further evidence towards the BSD conjecture: new cases of $p$-converse to the Gross--Zagier and Kolyvagin theorem, and $p$-part of the BSD formula for ordinary primes $p$. Along the way, we give a proof of a conjecture of Perrin-Riou connecting Beilinson--Kato elements with rational points.

Abstract: According to Sakellaridis, many zeta integrals in the theory of automorphic forms can be produced or explained by appropriate choices of a Schwartz space of test functions on a spherical homogeneous space, which are in turn dictated by the geometry of affine spherical embeddings. We pursue this perspective by developing a local counterpart and try to explicate the functional equations. These constructions are also related to the $L^2$-spectral decomposition of spherical homogeneous spaces in view of the Gelfand-Kostyuchenko method. To justify this viewpoint, we prove the convergence of $p$-adic local zeta integrals under certain premises, work out the case of prehomogeneous vector spaces and re-derive a large portion of Godement-Jacquet theory. Furthermore, we explain the doubling method and show that it fits into the paradigm of $L$-monoids developed by L. Lafforgue, B. C. Ngo et al., by reviewing the constructions of Braverman and Kazhdan (2002). In the global setting, we give certain speculations about global zeta integrals, Poisson formulas and their relation to period integrals.

Abstract:Let $p$ and $q$ be distinct prime numbers, with $q\equiv 1\pmod{12}$. Let $N$ be a positive integer that is coprime to $pq$. We prove a formula relating the Hasse--Weil zeta function of the modular curve $X_0(qN)_{\mathbb{F}_q}$ to the Ihara zeta function of the $p$-isogeny graphs of supersingular elliptic curves defined over $\overline{\mathbb{F}_q}$ equipped with a $\Gamma_0(N)$-level structure. When $N=1$, this recovers a result of Sugiyama.

Values and derivative values at nonpositive integers of generalized multiple Hurwitz zeta functions, applications to Witten zeta functions

Abstract:We aim to provide explicit formulas for values and derivative values along a direction of some generalized Hurwitz multizeta functions at nonpositive integers. We will express these values in terms of Bernoulli polynomials, and the derivative values in terms of Bernoulli polynomials, of derivative values at nonpositive integers of the Hurwitz zeta function, and of derivative values at nonpositive integers of some generalized Barnes zeta functions. Then we will apply these formulas in order to compute the values and the derivative values at $s=0$ of the Witten zeta functions $\zeta_{\mathfrak{g}_2}$ and $\zeta_{\mathfrak{so}(5)}$. As an application, we will find an explicit asymptotic formula for the number of representations of dimension $n$ of the exceptional Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_2$ using a generalized Meinardus-type theorem proved by Bridges, Brindle, Bringmann, and Franke.

$p$-adic zeta integrals on unitary groups via Bushnell-Kutzko types

Abstract:In this paper, we compute certain $p$-adic zeta integrals appearing in the doubling method of Garrett and Piatetski-Shapiro-Rallis for unitary groups. Using structure theorems in the author's work <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2310.09110" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2310.09110">arXiv:2310.09110</a> for $P$-(anti-)ordinary automorphic representations involving Bushnell-Kutzko types, we associate local Siegel-Weil sections at $p$ to such Bushnell-Kutzko types. Then, fixing compatible choices of $P$-anti-ordinary vectors, we find explicit formulae relating the corresponding $p$-adic zeta integral to modified $p$-Euler factors and volumes of $P$-Iwahoric subgroups. Our results extend the ones of Eischen, Harris, Li and Skinner for the ordinary setting by allowing automorphic representations with nontrivial supercuspidal support at $p$.

Abstract:Curves over finite fields are of great importance in cryptography and coding theory. Through studying their zeta-functions, we would be able to find out vital arithmetic and geometric information about them and their Jacobians, including the number of rational points on this kind of curves. In this paper, I investigate if it is possible to construct a curve over finite fields of a given genus $g$ whose zeta-function is given as a product of zeta-functions of $g$ elliptic curves, and find out alternative methods if it is not possible. Basically, I look for conditions which those $g$ elliptic curves should satisfy such that their product (of their Jacobians) is isogenous to the Jacobian of a curve of a given genus $g$. Then from this isogenous relationship I can determine the characteristic polynomial of the Frobenius endomorphism of the Jacobian of the new curve and by this characteristic polynomial I can thus determine the zeta-function of this new curve. By using the zeta-functions of curves in the form as generating functions, the number of rational points on curves can even be found out, which may lead to further researches relating to some applications in cryptography, coding theory and even information theory.

Abstract:Goss zeta values can be found, in some cases, as evaluations of a new type of rigid analytic function on projective curves $X$ over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, called "Pellarin $L$-series". In the case of genus $0$ and $1$, Pellarin and Green--Papanikolas further determined functional identities for Pellarin $L$-series, in partial analogy with the functional equation of Dirichlet $L$-series.

Abstract:Let $p>3$ be a prime. In this paper we develop a new kind of anticyclotomic local $\pm$-Iwasawa theory at $p$ for Hecke characters of quadratic imaginary fields which is valid for all ramification types of $p$ (split, inert and ramified). As an application we deduce the converse of Gross-Zagier-Kolyvagin theorem for these CM forms, which states that Selmer rank one implies analytic rank one. To carry out the Iwasawa theory argument we employ a recent construction of a new type of $p$-adic $L$-function by Andreatta-Iovita, and generalized by Yangyu Fan to Shimura curves in the Appendix, and a ``virtual Heenger family'' made via a limiting procedure from a Heegner family along Coleman-Mazur eigencurve constructed by Jetchev-Loeffler-Zerbes.

Abstract:Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$. Greenberg has posed a question whether the structure of the fine Selmer group over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ can be described by cyclotomic polynomials in a certain precise manner. A recent work of Lei has made progress on this problem by proving that the fine Mordell-Weil group (in the sense of Wuthrich) does have this required property. The goal of this paper is study the analogous question of Greenberg over various $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions of an imaginary quadratic field $F$. In particular, when the elliptic curve has complex multiplication by the ring of integers of the imaginary quadratic field, we obtain analogous results of Lei over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension and anti-cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $F$. In the event that the elliptic curve has good ordinary reduction at the prime $p$, we further obtain a result over the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $F$ unramified outside precisely one of the prime of $F$ above $p$. Finally, we study the situation of an elliptic curve over the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension under the generalized Heegner hypothesis. Along the way, we establish an analogous result for the BDP-Selmer group. This latter result is then applied to obtain a relation between the BDP $p$-adic $L$-function and the Mordell-Weil rank growth in the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:We prove that for any FAb compact $p$-adic analytic group $G$, its representation zeta function is a finite sum of terms $n_{i}^{-s}f_{i}(p^{-s})$, where $n_{i}$ are natural numbers and $f_{i}(t)\in\mathbb{Q}(t)$ are rational functions. Meromorphic continuation and rationality of the abscissa of the zeta function follow as corollaries. If $G$ is moreover a pro-$p$ group, we prove that its representation zeta function is rational in $p^{-s}$. Abstract:Lichtenbaum conjectured the existence of a Weil-étale cohomology in order to describe the vanishing order and the special value of the Zeta function of an arithmetic scheme $\mathcal{X}$ at $s=0$ in terms of Euler-Poincaré characteristics. Assuming the (conjectured) finite generation of some étale motivic cohomology groups we construct such a cohomology theory for regular schemes proper over $\mathrm{Spec}(\mathbb{Z})$. In particular, we obtain (unconditionally) the right Weil-étale cohomology for geometrically cellular schemes over number rings. We state a conjecture expressing the vanishing order and the special value up to sign of the Zeta function $\zeta(\mathcal{X},s)$ at $s=0$ in terms of a perfect complex of abelian groups $R\Gamma_{W,c}(\mathcal{X},\mathbb{Z})$. Then we relate this conjecture to Soulé's conjecture and to the Tamagawa number conjecture of Bloch-Kato, and deduce its validity in simple cases.
