Abstract:Wind power is the source of electricity in many countries, including Ethiopia. It can complement the volatility of hydropower during the dry season, and the provision of cheap energy is essential to expanding industrial centers. Moreover, wind energy estimation is critical and difficult in the energy industry due to the randomness, severe variability, and dependence of wind properties on wind speed. Many techniques have been used to estimate wind power; however, recent research has revealed that the ANN model is more accurate at making predictions. Thus, the objective was to assess the effectiveness of the network types of ANN to estimate the monthly average daily wind power of Adama Wind Farm I. The collected input data were divided into three categories: training (70%), testing (15%), and validation (15%). Network types such as FFBP, CFBP, EBP, and LR were used with seven input parameters in the prediction, and their performances were evaluated using mean MAPE and R2. EBP was extremely operational in the estimation for all wind turbines in Groups GI, GII, and GIII. Moreover, all the proposed network types estimated wind power with an accuracy of (0.0119 ≤ MAPE ≤ 0.0489) and (0.0982 ≤ R2 ≤ 0.9989). Results exhibited high prediction accuracy at the study site. Therefore, it can be concluded that the network types of the ANN model were highly effective in predicting monthly averaged daily wind power for Adama Wind Farm I.
