Abstract:A skew meadow is a non-commutative ring with an inverse operator satisfying two special equations and in which the inverse of zero is zero. All skew fields and products of skew fields can be viewed as skew meadows. Conversely, we give an embedding of non-trivial skew meadows into products of skew fields, from which a completeness result for the equational logic of skew fields is derived. The relationship between regularity conditions on rings and skew meadows is investigated.
The Eliahou-Kervaire resolution over a skew polynomial ring

Abstract:In a 1987 paper, Eliahou and Kervaire constructed a minimal resolution of a class of monomial ideals in a polynomial ring, called stable ideals. As a consequence of their construction they deduced several homological properties of stable ideals. Furthermore they showed that this resolution admits an associative, graded commutative product that satisfies the Leibniz rule. In this paper we show that their construction can be extended to stable ideals in skew polynomial rings. As a consequence we show that the homological properties of stable ideals proved by Eliahou and Kervaire hold also for stable ideals in skew polynomial rings. Finally we show that the resolution we construct admits a product generalizing the one given by Eliahou and Kervaire in the commutative case.

Abstract:It is evident that skew polynomials offer promising directions for developing cryptographic schemes. This paper focuses on exploring skew polynomials and studying their properties with the aim of exploring their potential applications in fields such as cryptography and combinatorics. We begin by deriving the concept of resultants for bivariate skew polynomials. Then, we employ the derived resultant to incrementally eliminate indeterminates in skew polynomial systems, utilising both direct and modular approaches. Finally, we discuss some applications of the derived resultant, including cryptographic schemes (such as Diffie–Hellman) and combinatorial identities (such as Pascal's identity). We start by considering a bivariate skew polynomial system with two indeterminates; our intention is to isolate and eliminate one of the indeterminates to reduce the system to a simpler form (that is, relying only on one indeterminate in this case). The methodology is composed of two main techniques; in the first technique, we apply our definition of a (bivariate) resultant via a Sylvester-style matrix directly from the polynomials' coefficients, while the second is based on modular methods where we compute the resultant by using evaluation and interpolation approaches. The idea of this second technique is that instead of computing the resultant directly from the coefficients, we propose to evaluate the polynomials at a set of valid points to compute its corresponding set of partial resultants first; then, we can deduce the original resultant by combining all these partial resultants using an interpolation technique by utilising a theorem we have established.

In this article we survey a variety of results about rational inner functions related to interpolation, sums of squares formulas, and boundary behavior. We mostly focus on two variables however in the final section we discuss higher dimensions.

Abstract:Braces are generalizations of radical rings, introduced by Rump to study involutive non-degenerate set-theoretical solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation (YBE). Skew braces were also recently introduced as a tool to study not necessarily involutive solutions. Roughly speaking, skew braces provide group-theoretical and ring-theoretical methods to understand solutions of the YBE. It turns out that skew braces appear in many different contexts, such as near-rings, matched pairs of groups, triply factorized groups, bijective 1-cocycles and Hopf-Galois extensions. These connections and some of their consequences are explored in this paper. We produce several new families of solutions related in many different ways with rings, near-rings and groups. We also study the solutions of the YBE that skew braces naturally produce. We prove, for example, that the order of the canonical solution associated with a finite skew brace is even: it is two times the exponent of the additive group modulo its center.

Irrational rotations and 2-filling rays

Abstract:We study a skew product transformation associated to an irrational rotation of the circle [0,1]/~. This skew product keeps track of the number of times an orbit of the rotation lands in the two complementary intervals of {0,1/2} in the circle. We show that under certain conditions on the continued fraction expansion of the irrational number defining the rotation, the skew product transformation has certain dense orbits. This is in spite of the presence of numerous non-dense orbits. We use this to construct laminations on infinite type surfaces with exotic properties. In particular, we show that for every infinite type surface with an isolated planar end, there is an infinite clique of 2-filling rays based at that end. These 2-filling rays are relevant to Bavard--Walker's loop graphs.

Algebraic Stability for Skew Products

Abstract:In this article we study algebraic stability for rational skew products in two dimensions $\phi : X \dashrightarrow X$, i.e. maps of the form $\phi(x, y) = (\phi_1(x), \phi_2(x, y))$. We prove that when $X$ is a birationally ruled surface and $\phi_1$ has no superattracting cycles, then we can always find a smooth surface $\hat X$ and an algebraic stabilisation $\pi : (\hat \phi, \hat X) \to (\phi, X)$ which is a birational morphism. We provide an example of a skew product $\phi$ where $\phi_1$ has a superattracting fixed point and $\phi$ is not algebraically stable on any model. Our techniques involve transforming the stabilisation issue into a combinatorial dynamical problem for a 'non-Archimedean skew product' $\phi_*: \mathbb P^1_{\text{an}}(\mathbb K) \to \mathbb P^1_{\text{an}}(\mathbb K)$ on the Berkovich projective line over the Puiseux series, $\mathbb K$. The Fatou-Julia theory for $\phi_*$ is instrumental to our approach.

Abstract:In this work, linearized multivariate skew polynomials over division rings are introduced. Such polynomials are right linear over the corresponding centralizer and generalize linearized polynomial rings over finite fields, group rings or differential polynomial rings. Their natural evaluation is connected to the remainder-based evaluation of free multivariate skew polynomials. It is shown that P-independent sets are those given by right linearly independent sets when partitioned into conjugacy classes. Hence finitely generated P-closed sets correspond to lists of finite-dimensional right vector spaces, extending Lam and Leroy's results on univariate skew polynomials. It is also shown that products of free multivariate skew polynomials translate into coordinate-wise compositions of linearized multivariate skew polynomials, which in turn translate into matrix products over the corresponding centralizers. Later, linearized multivariate Vandermonde matrices are introduced, which generalize multivariate Vandermonde, Moore and Wronskian matrices. The previous results explicitly give their ranks in general. P-Galois extensions of division rings are then introduced, which generalize classical (finite) Galois extensions. Three Galois-theoretic results are generalized to such extensions: Artin's theorem on extension degrees, the Galois correspondence and Hilbert's Theorem 90.

Noncommutative symmetric functions and skewing operators

Abstract:Skewing operators play a central role in the symmetric function theory because of the importance of the product structure of the symmetric function space. The theory of noncommutative symmetric functions is a useful tool for studying expansions of a given symmetric function in terms of various bases. In this paper, we establish a further development of the theory for studying skewing operators. Using this machinery, we are able to easily reproduce the Littlewood--Richardson rule, and provide recurrence relations for chromatic quasisymmetric functions, which generalizes Harada--Precup's recurrence.

Abstract:A characterization of right (left) quasi-duo skew polynomial rings of endomorphism type and skew Laurent polynomial rings are given. In particular, it is shown that (1) the polynomial ring R[x] is right quasi-duo iff R[x] is commutative modulo its Jacobson radical iff R[x] is left quasi-duo, (2) the skew Laurent polynomial ring is right quasi-duo iff it is left quasi-duo. These extend some known results concerning a description of quasi-duo polynomial rings and give a partial answer to the question posed by Lam and Dugas whether right quasi-duo rings are left quasi-duo.

Abstract:Sylvester-polynomial-conjugate matrix equations unify many well-known versions and generalizations of the Sylvester matrix equation AX−XB=C which have a wide range of applications. In this paper, we present a general approach to Sylvester-polynomial-conjugate matrix equations via groupoids, vector spaces, and matrices over skew polynomial rings. The obtained results are applied to Sylvester-polynomial-conjugate matrix equations over complex numbers and quaternions. The main role in our approach is played by skew polynomial rings, which are well-known tools in algebra to provide examples of asymmetry between left-sided and right-sided versions of many ring objects.

Abstract:Let R:=F[x;σ,δ] be a multivariate skew polynomial ring over a division ring F . In this paper, we introduce the notion of right and left (σ,δ) -partial derivatives of polynomials in R and we prove some of their main properties. As an application of these results, we solve in R a Hermite-type multivariate skew polynomial interpolation problem. The main technical tools and results used here are of constructive type, showing methods and algorithms to construct a polynomial in R which satisfies the above Hermite-type interpolation problem and its relative Lagrange-type version.

Abstract:We present a representation of skew-orthogonal polynomials of symplectic type ( ) in terms of a matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem, for weights of the form where is a polynomial of even degree and positive leading coefficient. This is done by representing skew-orthogonality as a kind of multiple-orthogonality. From this, we derive a analogue of the Christoffel-Darboux formula. Finally, our Riemann-Hilbert representation allows us to derive a Lax pair whose compatibility condition may be viewed as a analogue of the Toda lattice.

Abstract:We consider skew-products of quadratic maps over certain Misiurewicz-Thurston maps and study their statistical properties. We prove that, when the coupling function is a polynomial of odd degree, such a system admits two positive Lyapunov exponents almost everywhere and a unique absolutely continuous invariant probability measure.

Abstract:We study an action of the skew divided difference operators on the Schubert polynomials and give an explicit formula for structural constants for the Schubert polynomials in terms of certain weighted paths in the Bruhat order on the symmetric group. We also prove that, under certain assumptions, the skew divided difference operators transform Schubert polynomials into polynomials with positive integer coefficients.

Abstract:We study the geometry of the space of rational curves on smooth complete intersections of low degree, which pass through a given set of points on the variety. The argument uses spreading out to a finite field, together with an adaptation to function fields of positive characteristic of work by Rydin Myerson on the circle method. Our work also allows us to handle weak approximation for such varieties.

Abstract:Cylindric skew Schur functions, a generalization of skew Schur functions, are closely related to the famous problem finding a combinatorial formula for the 3-point Gromov-Witten invariants of Grassmannian. In this paper, we prove cylindric Schur positivity of the cylindric skew Schur functions, conjectured by McNamara. We also show that all coefficients appearing in the expansion are the same as $3$-point Gromov-Witten invariants. We start discussing properties of affine Stanley symmetric functions for general affine permutations and $321$-avoiding affine permutations, and explain how these functions are related to cylindric skew Schur functions. We also provide an effective algorithm to compute the expansion of the cylindric skew Schur functions in terms of the cylindric Schur functions, and the expansion of affine Stanley symmetric functions in terms of affine Schur functions.
