Abstract:In this study, we provide numerous updates and additions to the checklist of click-beetles (Elateridae) of Iran based on the most up-to-date family classification as well as on the recent taxonomic studies dealing with the species diversity of the click-beetles from Iran. The updated checklist of Iranian Elateridae includes 293 species classified in 62 genera and seven subfamilies, i.e., Agrypninae (15 genera, 42 species), Cardiophorinae (six genera, 68 species), Dendrometrinae (16 genera, 35 species), Elaterinae (21 genera, 124 species), Hemiopinae (one genus, 4 species), Lissominae (one genus, two species), and Negastriinae (two genera, 18 species). The following new combinations are proposed for species hitherto included in Conoderus Eschscholtz, 1829 (since Conoderus is currently a synonym of Monocrepidius Eschscholtz, 1829): Monocrepidius posticus (Eschscholtz, 1822) comb. nov. and Monocrepidius productus (Peyerimhoff, 1931) comb. nov. The following new combinations are proposed for species hitherto included in Hemicrepidius Germar, 1839: Pseudathous agajevi (Platia, 2008) comb. nov., Pseudathous koenigi (Schwarz, 1897) comb. nov., Pseudathous nigritulus (Reitter, 1890) comb. nov., and Pseudathous rahmei (Németh & Platia, 2014) comb. nov. Approximately one third (96) of the listed species are currently endemic to Iran.

Abstract:During field survey of eriophyoid mites in northeast Iran (Razavi Khorasan, Iran, summer 2023), two new eriophyoid mite species (Acari: Eriophyoidea: Eriophyidae) on Zygophyllum atriplicoides Fisch. et C.A.Mey. subsp. atriplicoides (Zygophyllaceae) were discovered, illustrated and described herein. They are Aceria kalatiensis sp. nov. , which caused rounded galls on both sides of the leaves, and Aculus sirzariensis sp. nov. , which was vagrant on the same samples. Furthermore, we provided a checklist of eriophyoid mite species associated with Zygophyllaceae plants of the world.

Abstract:The present work is the third and final part in a series of monographs on the Iranian scale insect fauna (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha) by the same authors: Part 1, the armoured scales (Diaspididae), was published in 2021, and Part 2, the mealybugs (Pseudococcidae and Rhizoecidae) and Putoidae, was published in 2022. Here we cover ten families: Asterolecaniidae, Cerococcidae, Coccidae, Cryptococcidae, Eriococcidae, Kermesidae, Margarodidae, Monophlebidae, Ortheziidae and Phoenicococcidae, bringing the total number of scale insect families recorded in Iran to 14. A key is provided to separate all 14 families. For each of the ten families in the present work, keys to identify the genera and species found in Iran are provided. These are accompanied by detailed descriptions, illustrations, distribution data, information on natural enemies, economic importance and the host-plants recorded in Iran. The main purpose of this work is to provide agricultural staff concerned with pest control and quarantine inspection in Iran (and elsewhere) with a reliable means of species identification. Among the recorded species in the present work, Ceroplastes elytropappi (Brain, 1920) and Mesolecanium nigrofasciatum (Pergande, 1898) (Coccidae) are considered to be doubtful records for Iran. Pulvinaria aligarhensis Avasthi & Shafee, 1985 and Pulvinaria urbicola Cockerell, 1893 are both recorded from Iran for the first time.

Abstract:Although checklists of the Iranian ladybird beetles (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) have been made twice in recent years, they have a number of shortcomings. Moreover, since these checklist were published, several ladybird species have been added to the Iranian fauna and several previously reported have been excluded. We therefore compiled an updated checklist of Coccinellidae found in Iran and its individual provinces based on available literature and previously unpublished records. The unpublished data allowed the addition of one species, Hyperaspis guttulata Fairmaire, 1870, to the Iranian fauna. On the other hand, some species previously reported from Iran are unlikely to occur there due to their general distribution and lack of information on their introduction into the region. We found 14 such misreported species in the literature, mostly of the Nearctic and Neotropical origin. Our revised checklist contains 149 species, of which 19 have only generally been reported as occurring in Iran (without attribution to provinces). The ladybird fauna of the different Iranian provinces has been studied very unevenly, with the number of reported species ranging from 7 (Bushehr) to 59 (Fars).

Abstract:The Odontiinae species of Iran are reviewed. Tegostoma pseudosarobiella Alipanah & Nazari sp. n. and T. tremewani Alipanah & Nazari sp. n. are newly described. Tegostoma moeschleri (Christoph, 1862) is considered as a senior synonym of T. uniforma Amsel, 1951 syn. n., T. lepidalis lepidalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1851) as a senior synonym of T. lepidalis apurpurealis Amsel, 1970 syn. n., and Aeschremon belutschistanalis Amsel, 1959 as a senior synonym of Tegostoma marginalis Amsel, 1961 syn. n. The genus Autocharis Swinhoe, 1894 and five species, namely Aporodes dentifascialis Christoph in Romanoff, 1887, Cynaeda forsteri de Lattin, 1951, Aeschremon ochrealis Asselbergs, 2008, A. desertalis Asselbergs, 2008 and Autocharis fessalis (Swinhoe, 1887) are newly reported for the fauna of Iran. The redescription of female of Tegostoma confluentalis Hampson, 1913, male genitalia of Aeschremon belutschistanalis, and female genitalia of Epimetasia abbasalis Amsel, 1974 are presented. The hitherto unknown female of A. belutschistanalis and the hitherto unknown male of E. abbasalis are described and illustrated. The intraspecific variations of the species if present are discussed and additional new diagnostic characters to separate the closely related species are presented. Data on the geographical distribution of the Iranian species of this subfamily as well as their distribution maps are provided.

Abstract:Abstract The family Aeolothripidae (Thysanoptera, Terebrantia) included seventeen species in four genera from Iran. Here, four species are recorded from Iran for the first time: Aeolothrips albicinctus Haliday, A. cursor Priesner, A. montivagus Priesner and A. gloriosus Bagnall. A checklist of all Iranian species of the family Aeolothripidae, with geographical distributions for each species is provided. New distribution records of eight species in Iran are reported.

Abstract:Echinophora scabra (Apiaceae) is one of the endemic species to the Iranica plateau with limited distribution range in Afghanistan and Pakistan which is the most eastern edge of the genus existence and penetration. In addition to its geographic distribution, morphologic, anatomic and micromorphologic characters of the plant, especially its umbellulas and mericarps features, make this species a remarkable candidate for further studies. Some of the most important and taxonomically valuable characters of its umbellulas and mericarps are: number of the male pedicels, absence of the sepals in umbellula’s central flower, petals shape, size of the sepals in male flowers, style length and indumentum, hypodermal collenchyma, relative size of the vascular bundles and vallecular vittae, width to thickness ratio of the endosperm, mericarp’s hair length and size of the platelets secretion on the mericarp surface. Here, we provided an emended taxonomic description improved with anatomical and micromorphological characters of the umbellulas and mericarps. Besides, we designated a lectotype and presented a comparison character table as well as a distribution map.

Abstract:The 22 species of the tortricid tribe Cnephasiini recorded from Iran are reviewed. Cnephasia razowskii, sp. n., is described and illustrated. Five species, i.e., C. communana (Herrich Schäffer, 1851), C. genitalana Pierce Metcalfe, 1922, C. tianshanica Filipjev, 1934, C. kenneli Obraztsov, 1956 and Eana incanana (Stephens, 1852), are newly reported for the fauna of Iran. New distributional data are presented for all other species. The previously unknown females of C. facetana Kennel, 1901 and C. kenneli are described and illustrated. A re-description of the female genitalia of C. grandis Osthelder, 1938 is provided owing to its poor original description.

Host-plant relationships among Aeolothrips Haliday species of Iran are discussed. The record of A. montivagus from Iran was revised. Abstract:Four species of the genus Longidorus were recovered from southern (Bushehr province) and southeastern (Southern Khorasan province) Iran. The first species, L. paratabrizicus n. sp. represents a new member to the genus and is characterised by 4.8–5.6 mm long females with anteriorly flattened lip region separated from the rest of the body by depression, amphidial fovea pocket-shaped without lobes, tail conical, dorsally convex, ventrally almost straight with bluntly rounded tip and males in population. By having similar lip region and tail shape, the new species most closely resembles five species viz. L. artemisiae, L. globulicauda, L. patuxentensis, L. sturhani, and L. tabrizicus. It represents the cryptic form of the last species. The second species belongs to L. mirus, recovered in both southern and southeastern Iran, representing the first record of the species after its original description. As an update to the characteristics of this species, it's all juvenile developmental stages were recovered and described. The criteria to separate L. mirus from two closely related species, L. auratus and L. africanus, are discussed. The third species belongs to L. persicus, a new record in southern Iran. The fourth species, L. orientalis was recovered in high population density in association with date palm trees in Bushehr province. The phylogenetic relationships of the new species and recovered populations of L. mirus and L. persicus were reconstructed using two ribosomal markers and the resulted topologies were discussed.

Abstract:New species and new records of Palaearctic Campopleginae (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) are reported in this paper: Porizon dahaka Vas, sp. nov. is described from Iran, with a complementary modification to the identification key of the genus; seven Western Palaearctic species, namely Bathyplectes rufigaster Horstmann, Casinaria paramorionella Riedel, Diadegma mediterraneum (Constantineanu), Diadegma neomajale Horstmann, Diadegma tamariscator (Aubert), Eriborus obscuripes Horstmann, and Hyposoter fitchii (Bridgman) are reported for the first time from the Eastern Palaearctic region (Iran); four species already known from the Eastern Palaearctic region, namely Diadegma aculeatum (Bridgman), Diadegma elegans Dbar, Dusona stragifex (Förster), and Meloboris pektusana Vas, are reported for the first time from Iran, the latter with the complementary description of the hitherto unknown male. Additionally, further data are provided on the distribution of Lemophagus eburnipes Vas, a species recently described from Iran.

Abstract:This paper presents an annotated checklist of the antlions (Neuroptera: Myrmeleontidae) of Armenia. In total, 39 myrmeleontid species are known to occur in Armenia, with 18 of them recorded in 2017 and 2018 by the second author. All faunistic data for these records are provided. Three species, namely Solter pulcher Hölzel, 1967, Euroleon parvus Hölzel, 1972, and Gymnocnemia variegata (Schneider, 1845), are documented for Armenia for the first time. The occurrence of Nemoleon poecilopterus (Stein, 1863), Distoleon kabulensis Hölzel, 1972 and Distoleon formosus Hölzel, 1972 in Armenia is confirmed after more than 80 years. The occurrence of Synclisis baetica (Rambur, 1842) and Myrmecaelurus uralensis (Hölzel, 1969) is substantiated by concrete records for the first time. Myrmecaelurus spectabilis Navás, 1912 should be excluded from the Neuroptera checklist of Russia due to misinterpretation of text on locality labels. Photographs of very rare or hitherto undetailed species are provided.

Abstract:Two new species of the genus Aeolothrips are described from northeast of Iran. A. bhattii sp.n. from flowering Caroxylon dendroides is remarkable for its strikingly bicolored body with brown head and last three abdominal segments. A. laurencei sp.n. from flowers of Elaeagnus angustifolia is characterized by its large and dark brown body, all yellow tarsi and fore wings with two brown transverse bands connected posteriorly.

Abstract:Southwest Asia is one of the most important centers of diversity for leafy spurges (Euphorbia subgen. Esula), and Iran is one of the richest countries both for species and endemics in the subgenus. Section Esula, the second largest of the 21 sections of this subgenus, comprises c. 96 taxonomically and phylogenetically poorly understood species with complicated patterns of morphological variation. The Euphorbia osyridea alliance is an Iranian-centered group harboring the well-known endemic and semi-endemic species, E. buhsei, E. osyridea, and two poorly understood and yet undescribed taxa. In a phylogenetic framework based on nuclear ribosomal ITS (internal transcribed spacer) and plastid ndhF sequences, inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) polymorphisms were used to investigate genetic structure and genetic diversity in seven populations of the endemic and semi-endemic species of E. osyridea alliance. Phenetic analysis (principal component analysis) was used to assess morphological differentiation of the alliance. Neither nuclear nor plastid sequences provided sufficient resolution to disentangle the diversification patterns within the E. osyridea alliance. The combined evaluation of phylogenetic study, ISSR analysis, and morphological data confirmed that studied populations of E. osyridea alliance can be divided into four different groups including two new endemic species, E. khabrica sp. nov. and E. austro-iranica sp. nov. Typification, description, data on distribution and habitats, key to species as well as pertinent comments are given.

Abstract:The family Aphididae (Hemiptera) represents one of the most diverse groups of sap-sucking insect pests referred to as aphids or plant-lice, with 366 species reported in Pakistan, associated with wide array of agricultural and horticultural crops, including fruit and forest trees, weeds, grasses, shrubs, and vines. This work aims to provide an updated checklist of aphids and their associated host plants documented across various regions of Pakistan. The checklist consolidates information from various published literature sources, including annotated checklists, regional distribution data, and host plant records from Pakistan. In this study, we present an annotated checklist of 366 aphid species, belonging to 134 genera and 11 subfamilies, associated with a total of 359 host plant species stretched over 84 families in Pakistan.
