Abstract:The autonomous decision regarding anchoring speed is one of the key technologies in the design and implementation of an intelligent anchoring system. The speed at which a vessel drops its anchor is termed anchoring speed. In order to find the suitable speed for anchoring, a mathematical model linking anchor chain tension and anchoring speed is established on the basis of the ship kinetic energy model. After fully considering the kinetic energy consumed during the transition from the anchor touching the seabed to its retrieval, and the strength requirements of the anchoring equipment, four different sizes of real ships are selected to calculate the limit value of anchoring speed when the anchor chain tension does not exceed the brake force of the windlass and the holding power of the anchor respectively. By comparing the calculated value of anchoring speed with the empirical value, the reliability of the calculated anchoring speed is verified. Furthermore, the limitations of the calculated value are analyzed and suggestions for anchoring speed are put forward. The research results demonstrate that the established model effectively predicts optimal anchoring speeds, bridging the gap left by traditional experience-based methods. Moreover, the model not only supports the development of intelligent anchoring systems but also allows for customisation based on the specific characteristics of different vessel types.
