Abstract:The correlation between the mean transverse momentum and the harmonic flow coefficients is an observable which is of great interest; it is sensitive to shape fluctuations in the initial state of a relativistic nuclear collision. The measurement of that correlation coefficient in central collisions allows one to infer about the intrinsic deformation of the colliding nuclei. We propose to study the momentum dependent covariance and correlation coefficient between the mean transverse momentum and the harmonic flow in a given transverse momentum bin. Two possible constructions of such observables are provided and predictions are obtained from a viscous hydrodynamic model. We find that such momentum dependent correlation coefficients between the mean transverse momentum and the harmonic flow show a strong and nontrivial momentum dependence. We also explore the effects of granularity (nucleon width) in the initial state, the nuclear deformation, and the shear viscosity on this momentum dependent correlation coefficient. The shape of the momentum dependence of the correlation coefficient for the triangular flow is found to be sensitive to the size of small scale fluctuations in the initial state. On the other hand, the shape of the momentum dependence of the covariance between the mean transverse momentum and the harmonic flow coefficients is found to be sensitive to the value of the shear viscosity and to the granularity of the initial state.

Momentum dependent flow correlations in deformed nuclei at collision energies available at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider

Abstract:Flow fluctuations in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collision can be probed by studying the momentum dependent correlations or the factorization-breaking coefficients between flow harmonics in separate kinematic bins (transverse momentum or pseudorapidity). We study such factorization-breaking coefficients for collisions of deformed U+U nuclei to see the effect of the nuclear deformation on momentum dependent coefficients. We also study momentum dependent mixed-flow correlations for the isobar collision system : Ru+Ru and Zr+Zr, which have the same mass number but different nuclear structure, thus providing the ideal scenario to study nuclear deformation effect on such observables. We use the TRENTO + MUSIC model for simulations and event-by-event analysis of those observables. We find that these momentum dependent correlation coefficients are not only excellent candidates to probe the fluctuation in heavy-ion collision, but also show significant sensitivity to the nuclear deformation.

Abstract:Correlations and fluctuations between produced particles in an ultra-relativistic nuclear collision remain one of the successor to understand the basics of the particle production mechanism. More differential tools like Forward-Backward (FB) correlations between particles from two different phase-space further strengthened our cognizance. We have studied the strength of FB correlations in terms of charged particle multiplicity and summed transverse momentum for proton-proton ($pp$) and proton-lead ($pPb$) collisions at the centre-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV and $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV respectively for the EPOS3 simulated events with hydrodynamical evolution of produced particles. Furthermore, the correlation strengths are separately obtained for the particles coming from the core and the corona. FB correlation strengths are examined as a function of psedorapidity gap ($\eta_{gap}$), psedorapidity window-width ($\delta\eta$), centre-of-mass energy ($\sqrt{s}$), minimum transverse momentum ($p_{Tmin}$) and different multiplicity classes following standard kinematical cuts used by the ALICE and the ATLAS experiments at the LHC for all three EPOS3 event samples. EPOS3 model shows a similar trend of FB multiplicity and momentum correlation strengths for both $pp$ \& $pPb$ systems, though the correlation strengths are found to be larger for $pPb$ system than $pp$ system. Moreover, $\delta\eta$-weighted average of FB correlation strengths as a function of different center-of-mass energies for $pp$ collisions delineates a tendency of saturation at very high energies.

Abstract:The mean transverse momentum of produced particles, , and its event-by-event fluctuations give direct access to the initial conditions of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions and help probe the colliding nuclei's structure. The fluctuations can be studied via multi-particle correlations; so far, only the lowest four orders have been studied. Higher-order fluctuations can provide stronger constraints on the initial conditions and improved sensitivity to the detailed nuclear structure; however, their direct implementation can be challenging and is still lacking. In this paper, we apply a generic recursive algorithm for the genuine multi-particle correlations, which enables the accurate study of higher-order fluctuations without heavy computational cost for the first time. With this algorithm, we will examine the power of multi-particle correlations through Monte Carlo model studies with different nuclear structures. The impact on the nuclear structure studies, including the nuclear deformation and triaxial structure, will be discussed. These results demonstrate the usefulness of multi-particle correlations for studying nuclear structure in high-energy nuclei collisions at RHIC and the LHC, which could serve as a complementary tool to existing low-energy nuclear structure studies.

Abstract:Momentum correlation functions between π, K , and p are calculated for several heavy-ion collision systems, namely B510+B510, O816+O816, Ca2040+Ca2040 , and Au79197+Au79197 in central collisions as well as Au79197+Au79197 collision in different centralities at center-of-mass energy sNN=39 GeV within the framework of a multiphase transport model complemented by the Lednický and Lyuboshitz analytical method. The results present the centrality and system-size dependence of the momentum correlation functions among pairs of π, K , and p , from which the emission source-size can be deduced. It is found that the deduced source sizes increase with the decreasing of centrality for Au + Au system or with the increasing of system size in central collisions with different nuclear size. In addition, through the momentum correlation functions of nonidentical particle pairs gated on velocity, the average emission sequence of nonidentical particles can be indicated. The results illustrate that in the small relative momentum region, protons are emitted in average earlier than π+ and K+ , and K+ are emitted averagely earlier than π+ . Furthermore, it seems that larger interval of the average emission order among them is exhibited for smaller collision systems. Abstract:Nuclear fragmentation and its possible connection to a critical phenomenon or phase transition have been the subject of intense theoretical and experimental research on the interactivity of relativistic heavy nuclei. Relativistic heavy-ion collisions enable studies of the extended state of matter at density and temperature extremes only achieved in the hot early Universe. A significant barrier to knowing the mechanism of nucleus–nucleus interactions is the study of the processes that take place in the spectator and participant regions of interacting nuclei, and in particular, the interplay between these processes. In the present work, we have studied the multiplicity distribution of the slowest target fragments (black particles), and their dependence on the interaction of different target nuclei of emulsion. We have also study the correlation of the multiplicity distribution as a function of the collision geometry. The results are compared with other experimental data as per availability. This study reveals a striking relationship between the target fragmentation processes and collision geometry with multiplicity distributions.

Abstract:The transverse flow in heavy ion collisions can be characterized by the azimuthal anisotropy of the final state particles. A clear signature of the azimuthal correlation between directed and elliptic flow is evidenced in the model calculations. It is found that the azimuthal correlation is sensitive to the type of elliptic flow. The collective transverse expansion in coordinate space affects the azimuthal distributions of the final state particles in momentum space and the space-momentum correlation would develop. The study indicates that the behaviour of elliptic flow in different events depends on the evaluation of event-by-event dynamical fluctuations.

Abstract:Momentum correlation functions of light (anti)nuclei formed by the coalescence mechanism of (anti)nucleons are calculated for several central heavy-ion collision systems, namely $_{5}^{10}\textrm{B}+_{5}^{10}\textrm{B}$, $_{8}^{16}\textrm{O}+_{8}^{16}\textrm{O}$, $_{20}^{40}\textrm{Ca}+_{20}^{40}\textrm{Ca}$ as well as $_{79}^{197}\textrm{Au}+_{79}^{197}\textrm{Au}$ in different centralities at center of mass energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 39 GeV within the framework of A Multi-Phase Transport (AMPT) model complemented by the Lednick$\acute{y}$ and Lyuboshitz analytical method. Momentum correlation functions for identical or nonidentical light (anti)nuclei are constructed and analyzed for the above collision systems. The Au + Au results demonstrate that emission of light (anti)nuclei occurs from a source with smaller space extent in more peripheral collisions. The effect of system-size on the momentum correlation functions of identical or nonidentical light (anti)nuclei is also explored by several collision system in central collisions. The results indicate that the emission source-size of light (anti)nuclei pairs deduced from their momentum correlation functions and system-size is self-consistent. Momentum correlation functions of nonidentical light nuclei pairs gated on velocity are applied to infer the average emission sequence of them. The results illustrate that protons are emitted in average on a similar time scale with neutrons but earlier than deuterons or tritons in the small relative momentum region. In addition, larger interval of the average emission order among them is exhibited for smaller collision systems or at more peripheral collisions.

Abstract:This paper presents our recent efforts to study the momentum distributions as well as the production of neutron-rich rare isotopes with heavy-ion beams in the energy region of 15 MeV/nucleon. Experimental cross sections of neutron-rich nuclides from collisions of a 86 Kr (15 MeV/nucleon) beam with 64 Ni and 58 Ni targets are presented. Experimental data were obtained from the previous work of our group with the MARS mass spectrometer at the Cyclotron Institute of Texas A&M University. On that note, detailed calculations of yields and momentum distributions of neutron-rich projectile-like fragments are presented for the interaction of 86 Kr with 64 Ni and compared with the aforementioned experimental data. The calculations were based on a two-step general approach: the dynamical stage of the primary interaction was described with the phenomenological deep-inelastic transfer model (DIT) and the microscopic constrained molecular dynamics model (CoMD); the deexcitation stage of the excited projectile fragments was described with the statistical binary-decay model GEMINI. The experimental data show an enhancement in the production of neutron-rich isotopes close to the projectile, and interestingly of heavier than the projectile neutron-rich nuclei. The behaviour of the data is relative to the predictions of the CoMD/GEMINI calculation. The study of the momentum distributions offers a novel route to study the reaction mechanism that dominates the production of the fragments of interest in peripheral heavy-ion collisions at intermediate energies. In the future, we plan to analyze experimental data that were obtained from the MAGNEX spectometer at the INFN-LNS in Catania, Italy.
Dynamics of fragments and associated phenomena in heavy-ion collisions using a modified secondary algorithm

Abstract:We discuss the stability of fragments identified by secondary algorithms used to construct fragments within quantum molecular dynamics model. For this purpose we employ three different algorithms for fragment identification. 1) The conventional minimum spanning tree (MST) method based on the spatial correlations, 2) an improved version of MST with additional binding energy constraints of cold nuclear matter, 3) and that of hot matter. We find significant role of thermal binding energies over cold matter binding energies. Significant role is observed for fragment multiplicities and stopping of fragments. Whereas insignificant effect is observed on fragment’s flow.
Correlations between the fragmentation modes and light charged particles emission in heavy ion collisions

Abstract:The correlations between the shape of rapidity distribution of the yield of light charged particles and the fragmentation modes in semi-peripheral collisions for $^{70}$Zn+$^{70}$Zn, $^{64}$Zn+$^{64}$Zn and $^{64}$Ni+$^{64}$Ni at the beam energy of 35MeV/nucleon are investigated based on ImQMD05 code. Our studies show there is an interplay between the binary, ternary and multi-fragmentation break-up modes. The binary and ternary break-up modes more prefer to emit light charged particles at middle rapidity and give larger values of $R_{yield}^{mid}$ compared with the multi-fragmentation break-up mode does. The reduced rapidity distribution for the normalized yields of p, d, t, $^3$He, $^4$He and $^6$He and the corresponding values of $R_{yield}^{mid}$ can be used to estimate the probability of multi-fragmentation break-up modes. By comparing to experimental data, our results illustrate that $\ge$40\% of the collisions events belong to the multi-fragmentation break-up mode for the reactions we studied.

Abstract:Within the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics model (UrQMD) coupled with nucleon coalescence model and Mini-Spanning-Tree model, the yields of light nuclei have been stimulated in Au + Au collisions over an energy range of $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.0\sim7.7\ \rm{GeV}$ and the momentum correlation functions of light nuclei pairs have been calculated by both the Lednický-Lyuboshitz and the Correlation After Burner methods. We compare the yields of light nuclei and their momentum correlation functions at midrapidity in this energy region with experimental data. It is found that there are differences between the results of the two models, and the coalescence method seems less valid at low collision energy. Furthermore, both the peak values of proton-proton correlation functions and the transition point of elliptic flows from out-of-plane to in-plane emission show a turning point around 3-4 GeV, which suggests that there is a relation between momentum correlation function and collective flow of particles.

Studying short-range nuclear correlations using relativistic heavy-ion collisions

Abstract:Recently, a method was developed for implementing arbitrary short-range nucleon-nucleon correlations in Monte Carlo sampled nuclei (as well as deformations of the 1-body nuclear density). We use this method to implement realistic 2-body correlations in a sample of nuclei for use in simulations of relativistic heavy-ion collisions and we quantify the statistical benefits. These results demonstrate that the method can be used to easily implement an arbitrary correlation function, and systematically study the effects of correlations using significantly less resources than is necessary with traditional methods.

Abstract:Correlations of two or more particles have been an essential tool for understanding the hydrodynamic behavior of the quark-gluon plasma created in ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions. In this paper, we extend that framework to introduce a mathematical construction of multi-particle correlators that utilize correlations between arbitrary numbers of particles of interest (e.g. particles selected for their strangeness, heavy flavor, and conserved charges) and inclusive reference particles to estimate the azimuthal anisotropies of rare probes. To estimate the fluctuations and correlations in the azimuthal anisotropies of these particle of interest, we use these correlators in a system of cumulants, raw moments, and central moments. We finally introduce two classes of observables that can compare the fluctuations in the azimuthal anisotropies of particles of interest with reference particles at each order.

Translation of Collision Geometry Fluctuations into Momentum Anisotropies in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions

Abstract:We develop a systematic framework for the study of the initial collision geometry fluctuations in relativistic heavy-ion collisions and investigate how they evolve through different stages of the fireball history and translate into final-particle momentum anisotropies. We find in our event-by-event analysis that only the few lowest momentum anisotropy parameters survive after the hydrodynamical evolution of the system. The geometry of the produced medium is found to be affected by the pre-equilibrium evolution of the medium and the thermal smearing of the discretized event-by-event initial conditions, both of which tend to smear out the spatial anisotropies. We find such effects to be more prominent for higher moments than for lower moments. The correlations between odd and even spatial anisotropy parameters during the pre-equilibrium expansion are quantitatively studied and found to be small. Our study provides a theoretical foundation for the understanding of initial-state fluctuations and the collective expansion dynamics in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract:Using an isospin- and momentum-dependent transport model, we study the effects due to the momentum dependence of isoscalar nuclear potential as well as that of symmetry potential on two-nucleon correlation functions and light cluster production in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions induced by neutron-rich nuclei. It is found that both observables are affected significantly by the momentum dependence of nuclear potential, leading to a reduction of their sensitivity to the stiffness of nuclear symmetry energy. However, the t/He-3 ratio remains a sensitive probe of the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy.

Abstract:We study systematically the average property of fragmentation reaction and momentum dissipation induced by halo-nuclei in intermediate energy heavy ion collisions for different colliding systems and different beam energies within the isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics model (IQMD). This study is based on the extended halo-nucleus density distributions, which indicates the average property of loosely inner halo nucleus structure, because the interaction potential and in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section in IQMD model depend on the density distribution. In order to study the average properties of fragmentation reaction and momentum dissipation induced by halo-nuclei we also compare the results for the halo-nuclear colliding systems with those for corresponding stable colliding systems with same mass under the same incident channel condition. We find that the effect of extended halo density distribution on the fragment multiplicity and nuclear stopping (momentum dissipation) are important for the different beam energies and different colliding systems. For example the extended halo density distributions increase the fragment multiplicity but decrease the nuclear stopping for all of incident channel conditions in this paper.
