Abstract:Electrode materials for supercapacitors with one-dimensional porous nanostructures, such as nanowires and nanotubes, are very attractive for high-efficiency storage of electrochemical energy. Herein, ultralong Cu-based porous coordination polymer nanowires (copper-L-aspartic acid) were used as the electrode material for supercapacitors, for the first time. The as-prepared material exhibits a high specific capacitance of 367 F g(-1) at 0.6 A g(-1) and excellent cycling stability (94% retention over 1000 cycles). Moreover, porous CuO nanotubes were successfully fabricated by the thermal decomposition of this nanowire precursor. The CuO nanotube exhibits good electrochemical performance with high rate capacity (77% retention at 12.5 A g(-1)) and long-term stability (96% retention over 1000 cycles). The strategy developed here for the synthesis of porous nanowires and nanotubes can be extended to the construction of other electrode materials for more efficient energy storage.

Abstract:The conductive two-dimensional metal-organic framework (Ni-CAT) nanocones were decorated on the flower petals surface of layered double hydroxide (NiCo-LDH) based nanoflowers, just like the surface microstructure of lotus leaves. This interesting composite structure displays excellent specific capacitance of 882 F g(-1) at a current density of 1 A g(-1), resulting from the synergistic between Ni-CAT and NiCo-LDH. An assembled asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) using NiCo-LDH@Ni-CAT as positive electrode, which also diaplays high energy density of 23.5 Wh kg(-1) at power density of 394.6 W kg(-1) and long-term cycling stability up to 82% after 10,000 cycles. Therefore, this work demonstrates an excellent method of the designing and fabricating hybrid electrode materials based on conductive two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks and layered double hydroxides to apply in supercapacitors.

Abstract:Hierarchical copper oxide @ ternary nickel cobalt sulfide (CuO/Cu₂O@NiCo₂S₄) core-shell nanowire arrays on Cu foam have been successfully constructed by a facile two-step strategy. Vertically aligned CuO/Cu₂O nanowire arrays are firstly grown on Cu foam by one-step thermal oxidation of Cu foam, followed by electrodeposition of NiCo₂S₄ nanosheets on the surface of CuO/Cu₂O nanowires to form the CuO/Cu₂O@NiCo₂S₄ core-shell nanostructures. Structural and morphological characterizations indicate that the average thickness of the NiCo₂S₄ nanosheets is ~20 nm and the diameter of CuO/Cu₂O core is ~50 nm. Electrochemical properties of the hierarchical composites as integrated binder-free electrodes for supercapacitor were evaluated by various electrochemical methods. The hierarchical composite electrodes could achieve ultrahigh specific capacitance of 3.186 F cm-2 at 10 mA cm-2, good rate capability (82.06% capacitance retention at the current density from 2 to 50 mA cm-2) and excellent cycling stability, with capacitance retention of 96.73% after 2000 cycles at 10 mA cm-2. These results demonstrate the significance of optimized design and fabrication of electrode materials with more sufficient electrolyte-electrode interface, robust structural integrity and fast ion/electron transfer.

Abstract:Transition metal sulfides (TMSs) are considered as attractive materials in the areas of energy storage because of their unique redox properties, excellent electronic conductivity, as well as environmental friendliness. However, poor cyclic stability and limited electrochemical active sites hinder their further application. To address this issue, a flower-like hierarchical CuCo2S4 structure is constructed by a two-step hydrothermal method. In this nanostructure, CuCo2S4 grows outward to form a tightly bound hierarchical structure on the nickel foams (NFs). This oriented structure can provide more laminar gaps for electrolyte ion diffusion, exposing more reaction sites to increase the ion transport efficiency between the layers, reducing the ion transport resistance and improving the reaction kinetics. Thus, the CuCo2S4 electrode exhibits excellent energy storage performance, exhibiting a high specific capacity of 1415.6 F g−1 at 1 A g−1. After 10,000 cycles of 10 A g−1, it still has 91.9% of the initial performance. In addition, an asymmetrical supercapacitor (ASC) was constructed by choosing CuCo2S4 as the anode and RGO as the cathode, which has the maximum energy density (61.8 Wh Kg−1) at 812.1 W Kg−1 and significant cycling endurance (92.05% retention) at 10,000 turns. Briefly, the researchers successfully constructed an array of CuCo2S4 flower-like hierarchical nanostructures and confirmed their potential application in supercapacitors.

Abstract:Due to the importance of energy storage systems based on supercapacitors, various studies have been conducted. In this research CuO, NCNO and the flower like CuO/NCNO have been studied as a novel materials in this field. The resulte showed that the synthesized CuO nanostructutes have flower like morphology which studied by FE-SEM analisis. Further, the XRD pattern confirmed the crystalline properties of the CuO/NCNO nanocomposite, and the Raman verified the functional groups and vibrations of the components of CuO/NCNO nanocomposite. In a two-electrode system at a current density of 4 A/g, the capacitance, power density, and energy density were 450 F/g, 3200 W/kg, and 98 Wh/kg, respectively. The charge transfer resistances of CuO and NCNO/CuO electrodes obtained 8 and 2 Ω respectively, which show that the conductivity and supercapacitive properties of nanocomposite are better than pure components. Also, the stability and low charge transfer resistance are other advantages obtained in a two-symmetrical electrode investigation. The stability investigation showed that after 3000 consecutive cycles, only 4% of the initial capacitance of the CuO/NCNO electrode decreased.

High–performance 3D CuO/Cu Flowers Supercapacitor Electrodes by Femtosecond Laser Enhanced Electrochemical Anodization

Abstract:Changing morphology and chemical compositions of electrode active sites is an effective approach to enhance the performance of supercapacitors. Herein, a novel method has been proposed to prepare 3D porous copper oxides electrodes of supercapacitors. CuO flowers were directly grown on copper foam by the combination of femtosecond laser processing and electrochemical anodization. A femtosecond laser was used to create micro/nanoprotrusions served as the precursors for the following anodization. During anodization, the morphology and performance of the electrodes were optimized by controlling current densities and anodization times. The grown CuO flowers acted as the active materials of binderless and additive free supercapacitor electrodes. Benefiting from the unique morphology, providing plentiful redox active sites and enabling electrolyte ion access easily, a high specific capacitance of 3348.57 mF cm(-2) at the current density of 1 mA cm(-2) was achieved. The specific capacitance of the electrode is superior to that of electrochemical anodization. The electrode exhibits excellent rate capacity (82.5%), good cycle ability (120%), and superior coulombic efficiency (97%) during 1400 cycles. In addition, the electrode also delivers a high energy density of 56.97 mu Wh cm(-2) at the power density of 175 mu W cm(-2). These results indicate that this versatile combined fabrication process is suitable for improving the electrochemical performances of copper oxides-based 3D electrodes, which have promising applications in commercial devices. Abstract:We introduce a novel strategy of fabricating nanoporous carbons loaded with different amounts of CuO nanoparticles via a hard templating approach, using copper-containing mesoporous silica as the template and sucrose as the carbon source. The nature and dispersion of the CuO nanoparticles on the surface of the nanoporous carbons were investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). XRD results reveal that nanoporous carbons with embedded CuO nanoparticles exhibit a well-ordered mesoporous structure, whereas the nitrogen adsorption measurements indicate the presence of excellent textural characteristics such as high surface area, large pore volume and uniform pore size distribution. The amount of CuO nanoparticles in the nanochannels of the nanoporous carbon could be controlled by simply varying the Si/Cu molar ratio of the mesoporous silica template. Morphological characterization by SEM and TEM reveals that high-quality CuO nanoparticles are distributed homogeneously within the nanoporous carbon framework. The supercapacitance behavior of the CuO-loaded nanoporous carbons was investigated. The material with a small amount of CuO in the mesochannels and high surface area affords a maximum specific capacitance of 300 F g<sup>-1</sup> at a 20 mV s<sup>-1</sup> scan rate in an aqueous electrolyte solution. A supercapacitor containing the CuO-loaded nanoporous carbon is highly stable and exhibits a long cycle life with 91% specific capacitance retained after 1000 cycles.

Abstract:In recent decades, there has been a lot of interest in novel high-performance active electrode materials for green energy storage devices. This is the first instance of a 3D mesoporous flower-like CuCo 2 S 4 @CuCo 2 O 4 /rGO heterostructure that has been developed and constructed with suitable nanoscale interfaces and a controllable chemical composition. The electrode has large electrochemical surface area, enhanced conductivity, short ion diffusion path, and rapid electron and ion transport rate due to its unique architecture and components. These features combine to give the electrode its exceptional electrochemical properties, including specific capacitance of 1545 Fg −1 at 1 Ag −1 , excellent cycling stability, and high rate capability. The increased active surface area of the nanostructure, the potent synergistic interaction between CuCo 2 S 4 and CuCo 2 O 4 , and the superior conductivity of rGO are all responsible for the enhanced electrochemical performance. These special nanoflowers serve as the cathode and activated carbon (AC) serves as the anode in an asymmetric supercapacitor device that offers significant power density (487 Wkg −1 ), long-term stability (83% capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles), and energy density (33.5 Whkg −1 ). These findings suggest that high-performance supercapacitors could find extensive use.

Abstract:Hierarchical CuNiO2 nanospheres composed of large number of spikes, which look like a dandelion flower-like morphologies are grown on nickel foam via a facile and low-cost hydrothermal technique. These CuNiO2 electrodes are used as an efficient electrode material for supercapacitor without using any binders or conducting polymer additives. The structural, composition and morphological behaviors of the CuNiO2 electrodes are characterized using X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy methods. The CuNiO2 nanoarchitectures provide the abundant active sites, high conductivity and rapid charge transport, which resulting the low-charge transfer resistance at the interface of electrode–electrolyte. Cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge–discharge plateaus from the CuNiO2 electrode exhibit the Faradic battery-type redox behavior, which is distinct form the profiles of carbon based materials. As a battery-type electrode, the dandelion flower-like CuNiO2 nanoarchitectures exhibits the outstanding electrochemical performances with a high specific capacity (∼111.52 mA h g−1 at 2 A g−1), superb rate capability (∼81.4% retains even at 10 A g−1), and excellent cycling life (∼89.13% at 6 A g−1 over 3000 cycles), respectively. Therefore, with the above findings, CuNiO2 material has remarkable application potential in supercapacitors and could be effectively applied in other energy storage technologies.

Abstract:Copper-based compounds have attracted increasing attention as electrode materials for rechargeable devices, but their poor conductivity and insufficient stability inhibit their further development. Herein, an effective method has been proposed to improve the electrochemical properties of the copper-based electrodes by coating carbon materials and generating unique micro/nanostructures. The prepared Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC with hierarchical hollow structure possesses excellent electrochemical performance, attributing to the composition and structure optimization. The superior charge storage performance has been assessed by theoretical and experimental research. Specifically, the Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC exhibits remarkably higher electrical conductivity and lower adsorption-free energy for O* and OH* than those of Cu2O. Moreover, the Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC delivers a high specific capacitance of 1261.3 F·g-1 at the current density of 1 A·g-1 and also has great rate performance at higher current densities, which are much better than those of the Cu2O nanocubes. In addition, the assembled hybrid supercapacitor using Cu2S/Cu7S4/NC as the anode exhibits great energy density, power density, and cycling stability. This study has proposed a novel and feasible method for the synthesis of high-performance copper-based electrodes and their electrochemical performance regulation, which is of great significance for the advancement of high-quality electrode materials and rechargeable devices.
Facile hydrothermally grown CuO/Co3O4 nanocomposite as an effective electrode material for enhanced supercapacitor applications

Abstract:In this study, we developed a transition metal oxide based CuO/Co 3 O 4 nanocomposites (NCs) by a facile hydrothermal method and the synthesized samples have been used as electroactive material for supercapacitor applications. The as-synthesized CuO/Co 3 O 4 NCs were characterized by various techniques such as XRD, FESEM, XPS, etc. FESEM shows the uniform morphology of CuO/Co 3 O 4 (1:3) NCs. Powder XRD confirms the formation of CuO/Co 3 O 4 NCs without any impurities. XPS revealed the chemical state of metallic species. The electrochemical properties studied by CV, GCD and EIS analysis, confirms the pseudocapacitive behaviour with high specific capacitance at low scan rate. The FESEM image of CuO/Co 3 O 4 NCs shows mixture of two different morphologies, spherical and cubical. These specific morphologies provide more active sites for electrochemical redox reactions. For comparison, CuO/Co 3 O 4 NCs with different molar ratios were prepared and electrochemical properties were also analysed. The synergistic effect between metal oxides has enhanced the specific capacity of the nanocomposite. Electrochemical investigation of the synthesized samples and the influence of the molar ratios of CuO to Co 3 O 4 in the composites were examined. The electrode of CuO/Co 3 O 4 NCs exhibited high specific capacitance of 860 F/g at a current density of 2 A/g, which is higher than the previous reports in hydrothermal method. These results highlighted that the outstanding electrochemical performance of CuO/Co 3 O 4 NCs, can be considered as a promising electrode material for electrochemical energy storage supercapacitors.

Abstract:We proposed a facile strategy to synthesize porous zinc-doped copper sulfide (Zn–CuS) nanoflowers using a cationic surfactant (CTAB) by hydrothermal route. The end product is used as electrode material in supercapacitor in KOH as electrolyte. Initially it is found that inorganic dopant (Zn2+) plays a vital role in controlling or modifying the morphology of CuS which has resulted in the newer materials exhibiting multi-functional, high-performance stabilizer character further than what traditional single nanomaterials possess. Morphological analysis illustrates flower-like structures that the size of Zn–CuS nanostructure is about 14–20 nm. When utilized as an electroactive material for electrochemical capacitors, the Zn–CuS electrode delivers a specific capacitance (Cs) 826.31 Fg−1 at 5mAcm−2, which is higher than the CuS electrode 328.26 Fg−1 at 5mAcm−2. The outstanding electrochemical behavior is essentially by reason of the porous nature of synthesized nanostructures, which gives quick diffusion pathway to electronic and ionic transport on electrode and electrolyte interfaces. This exploration work affirms that the Zn–CuS electrode can serve as more attractive material for supercapacitive applications.
Hierarchical Structured Sm 2 O 3 Modified CuO Nanoflowers As Electrode Materials for High Performance Supercapacitors

Abstract:By a simple and cost effective chemical precipitation-hydrothermal method, novel hierarchical structured Sm2O3 modified CuO nanoflowers are prepared and investigated as electrode materials for supercapacitors. The physical properties of prepared materials are characterized by XRD, FE-SEM, EDX and FTIR techniques. Furthermore, electrochemical performances of prepared materials are investigated by cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge/discharge and electrochemical impedance spectrum in 1.0M KOH electrolyte. The resulting Sm2O3 modified CuO based electrodes exhibit obviously enhanced capacitive properties owing to the unique nanostructures and strong synergistic effects. It is worth noting that the optimized SC-3 based electrode exhibits the best electrochemical performances in all prepared electrodes, including higher specific capacitance (383.4 Fg(-1) at 0.5 Ag-1) and good rate capability (393.2 Fg(-1) and 246.3 Fg(-1) at 0.3 Ag-1 and 3.0 Ag-1, respectively), as well as excellent cycling stability (84.6% capacitance retention after 2000 cycles at 1.0 Ag-1). Hierarchical CuO nanosheets encasing nanorods via a singular potential-cycling activation: Innovations in supercapacitor energy density and longevity

Abstract:Copper oxides (CuO), by virtue of their exceptional electrical conductivity, benign environmental profile, and economic viability, have emerged as indispensable constituents in the design and development of binder-free electrodes for advanced supercapacitor systems. The ongoing quest for the synthesis of CuO nanomaterials through gentle yet economically feasible methodologies held considerable promise for broadening their applicability within the domain of energy storage devices. In this investigation, a novel architectural innovation was achieved through the integration of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) within the framework of an in-situ electrooxidation process, culminating in the formation of a distinctive CuO-CNT nanorod configuration. Subsequent to this fabrication, the electrode material was subjected to an extensive cyclic voltammetry (CV) activation for 2000 cycles, which precipitated a profound morphological evolution. This process resulted in the emergence of 2D hierarchical nanosheet arrays enveloping 1D nanorods, a configuration herein designated as CuO-CNT-2000. This meticulously engineered lamellar structure conferred upon the material an extraordinary specific surface area, quantified at 219.6 m 2 g− 1 , and an impressive specific capacitance of 709.1 F g− 1 . Moreover, the asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) assembled utilizing this advanced material exhibited a remarkable energy density, measured at 38.09 Wh kg− 1 . Notably, even after enduring 60,000 charge-discharge cycles, the device demonstrated a retention of 82.36 % of its initial energy density, coupled with a Coulombic efficiency of 99.43 %, thus attesting to its superior electrochemical stability and longevity. The efficacy of the CV activation technique in facilitating significant morphological refinement, augmenting the specific surface area, and enhancing the electrochemical performance of the material suggests a broad applicability of this method to a diverse array of other electrode materials, potentially revolutionizing the design and fabrication of next-generation energy storage systems.

Abstract:Layered double hydroxide (LDH) materials, despite their high theoretical capacity, exhibit significant performance degradation with increasing load due to their low conductivity. Simultaneously achieving both high capacity and high rate performance is challenging. Herein, we fabricated vertically aligned CuO nanowires in situ on the copper foam (CF) substrate by alkali-etching combined with the annealing process. Using this as a skeleton, electrochemical deposition technology was used to grow the amorphous α-phase CoNi-LDH nanosheets on its surface. Thanks to the high specific surface area of the CuO skeleton, ultrahigh loading (̃16.36 mg cm-2) was obtained in the fabricated CF/CuO@CoNi-LDH electrode with the cactus-like hierarchical structure, which enhanced the charge transfer and ion diffusion dynamics. The CF/CuO@CoNi-LDH electrode achieved a good combination of high areal capacitance (33.5 F cm-2) and high rate performance (61% capacitance retention as the current density increases 50 times). The assembled asymmetric supercapacitor device demonstrated a maximum potential window of 0-1.6 V and an energy density of 1.7 mWh cm-2 at a power density of 4 mW cm-2. This work provides a feasible strategy for the design and fabrication of high-mass-loading LDH composites for electrochemical energy storage applications.
Copper Oxide Nanoparticles Anchored on Porous Carbon Nitride Nanosheets for Supercapacitor Applications

Abstract:Electrochemical energy storage devices are vital for renewable energy integration and the deployment of electric vehicles. Ongoing research seeks to create new materials with innovative morphologies capable of delivering high specific capacitance for the next generation of customizable energy devices. Carbon nitride is an excellent candidate for electrochemical energy storage devices; however, it has limitations such as layer stacking, poor electric conductivity, a restricted number of electroactive sites, and static electrochemical reaction rates. This research objective is to make porous structures in carbon nitride nanosheets and integrate them with CuO particles to increase surface area and improve electrochemical performance. The use of thermal heating, acidic treatment, and hydrothermal processes accomplishes this. Along with X‐ray diffraction peaks of the CuO phase, a prominent peak (002) at 27.67° indicates the presence of graphitic‐structured carbon nitride. TEM images show that CuO particles are evenly attached to the surface of g‐C3N4 nanosheets with lattice intervals of 0.336 and 0.232 nm, which are the (002) and (111) orientations of the g‐C3N4 and CuO phases, respectively. Adding CuO nanoparticles to porous g‐C3N4 nanosheets avoids layer stacking and provides micro‐ and mesopore channels, increasing the specific surface area (42.60 m2 g-1). The CuO@ porous g‐C3N4 electrode delivered 817 F g-1 of specific capacitance at 1 A g-1 and admirable capacitance retention (92.3% after 6000 cycles) due to the synergistic impact of its unique composition and structural characteristics. Because of its outstanding electrochemical performance and fascinating discoveries, CuO@ porous g‐C3N4 may be employed as a cathode material for high‐performance supercapacitors.

Abstract:Metal organic frameworks (MOF's) have gained considerable attention in the field of energy storage and supercapacitors applications. Herein, we synthesized copper oxide (CuO) through the precipitation method and concurrently derived from the solvothermal prepared copper-benzene dicarboxylate (Cu-BDC) by calcination. The integration of MOF-derived nanostructures with traditional CuO to form a hybrid electrode material, has not been extensively explored. The synthesized materials were characterized using x-ray Diffractometry, FTIR, XPS, Brunauer, Emmett, and Teller and morphological analysis was conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) affirming the composite's nature. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, galvanostatic charge-discharge, and cyclic voltammetry were used to evaluate the electrochemical properties of electrode material. With a specific capacitance of 691 Fg-1for CuO obtained from Cu-BDC (benzene dicarboxylic acid) and 236 Fg-1for CuO via the precipitation method, measured at a scan rate of 5 m Vs-1in 6 M KOH was found to be the optimal performance solution for the electrode material. The mesoporous structures are crucial for their absorption ability and improved ion transport, resulting in optimized electrochemical performance. Finally, we demonstrate significant improvements in specific capacitance and cycling stability compared to pure CuO-based electrodes, highlighting the potential of this composite structure for advanced supercapacitor applications.

Abstract:Nanostructured Copper oxides are promising materials for supercapacitors due to their high theoretical capacitance, low cost and environment friendly properties, especially for those prepared via template free method. In this work, an in-situ growth of self-assembled 3D Cu2O@Cu foams nanocomposite without template has been developed and the synthesis mechanism has been discussed in detail. The electrode exhibits a high capacitance of 0.66F cm(-2) (about 200 F g(-1)) and significant stability (after 12000 times cycling, remaining 87.9% of the initial value). Extraordinary performances and relative cost of the raw material indicate its potential in commercial applications for energy storage. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this work, the unique hierarchical core–shell nanorods arrays consisting of Ni–Fe layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets shell and CuO nanorods core have been designed and synthesized on the copper foam substrate by two-step in situ electrochemical processes. The resulting CuO@Ni–Fe LDH electrodes can be directly used as binder-free electrodes for high performance supercapacitors, and the prepared samples revealed an improved specific capacitance (2.682 F cm−2), good coulombic efficiency of 82.7%, and long cycling lifespans. The unique structures can provide massive active sites for redox reactions, shorten the diffusion pathway for ions and improve the mechanical strength of the sample. Therefore, the CuO@Ni–Fe LDH electrode has a good potential for high performance energy storage devices.
