Abstract:Suppose that the vertex set of a graph G is V (G) = {vi, center dot center dot center dot, v(n)}. Then we denote by d(v(i)) the degree of v(i) in G. Let A(G) be the adjacent matrix of G and D(G) be the n x n diagonal matrix with its (i, i)-entry equal to d(v(i)). Then Q(A)(G) = D(G) + A(G) is the signless Laplacian matrix of G. The signless Laplacian spectral radius of G is the largest eigenvalues of Q(A)(G). In this paper we describe the unique graph with maximum signless Laplacian spectral radius among all connected bipartite graphs of order n with a given matching number and vertex connectivity, respectively.

Abstract:The spectral radius of a graph is the largest eigenvalue of adjacency matrix of the graph and its Laplacian spectral radius is the largest eigenvalue of the Laplacian matrix which is the difference of the diagonal matrix of vertex degrees and the adjacency matrix. Some sharp bounds are obtained for the (Laplacian) spectral radii of connected graphs. As consequences, some (sharp) upper bounds of the Nordhaus–Gaddum type are also obtained for the sum of (Laplacian) spectral radii of a connected graph and its connected complement.

Abstract:Let $F_{a_1,\dots,a_k}$ be a graph consisting of $k$ cycles of odd length $2a_1+1,\dots, 2a_k+1,$ respectively, which intersect in exactly one common vertex, where $k\geq1$ and $a_1\ge a_2\ge \cdots\ge a_k\ge 1$. In this paper, we present a sharp upper bound for the signless Laplacian spectral radius of all $F_{a_1,\dots,a_k}$-free graphs and characterize all extremal graphs which attain the bound. The stability methods and structure of graphs associated with the eigenvalue are adapted for the proof.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple connected graph of order $n$ and $\partial(G)$ is the spectral radius of the distance matrix $D(G)$ of $G$. The transmission $D_i$ of vertex $i$ is the $i$-th row sum of $D(G)$. Denote by $D_{\max}(G)$ the maximum of transmissions over all vertices of $G$, and $\partial^Q(G)$ is the spectral radius of the distance signless Laplacian matrix $D(G)+\mbox{diag}(D_1,D_2,\ldots,D_n)$. In this paper, we present a sharp lower bound of $2D_{\max}(G)-\partial^Q(G)$ among all $n$-vertex connected graphs, and characterize the extremal graphs. Furthermore, we give the minimum values of respective $D_{\max}(G)-\partial(G)$ and $2D_{\max}(G)-\partial^Q(G)$ on trees and characterize the extremal trees.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected graph and let $k$ be a positive integer. Let $T$ be a spanning tree of $G$. The leaf degree of a vertex $v\in V(T)$ is defined as the number of leaves adjacent to $v$ in $T$. The leaf degree of $T$ is the maximum leaf degree among all the vertices of $T$. Let $A(G)$ be the adjacency matrix of $G$ and $D(G)$ be the diagonal degree matrix of $G$. Let $Q(G)=D(G)+A(G)$ be the signless Laplacian matrix of $G$. The largest eigenvalue of $Q(G)$, denoted by $q(G)$, is called the signless Laplacian spectral radius of $G$. In this paper, we investigate the connection between the spanning tree and the signless Laplacian spectral radius of $G$, and put forward a sufficient condition based upon the signless Laplacian spectral radius to guarantee that a graph $G$ contains a spanning tree with leaf degree at most $k$. Finally, we construct some extremal graphs to claim all the bounds obtained in this paper are sharp.

Abstract:The signless Laplacian spectral radius of a graph $G$, denoted by $q(G)$, is the largest eigenvalue of its signless Laplacian matrix. In this paper, we investigate extremal signless Laplacian spectral radius for graphs without short cycles or long cycles. Let $\mathcal{G}(m,g)$ be the family of graphs on $m$ edges with girth $g$ and $\mathcal{H}(m,c)$ be the family of graphs on $m$ edges with circumference $c$. More precisely, we obtain the unique extremal graph with maximal $q(G)$ in $\mathcal{G}(m,g)$ and $\mathcal{H}(m,c)$, respectively.

Abstract:A bag Bagp,q is a graph obtained from a complete graph Kp by replacing an edge uv by a path Pq. In this paper, we show that for all the connected graphs of order n≥5 with signless Laplacian index q1(G) and radius rad(G), q1(G)⋅rad(G) is maximum for and only for the graph Bagn−2s+3,2s−1, where s=⌈n/4⌉. This solves a conjecture in [6] on the signless Laplacian index involving the radius.

Abstract:Let G be a simple graph with n vertices, m edges, diameter D and degree sequence d(1), d(2), ..., d(n), and let lambda(1)(G) be the largest Laplacian eigenvalue of G. Denote Delta = max{d(i) : 1 <= i <= n}, ((alpha)t)(i) = Sigma(i similar to j) d(j)(alpha) and ((alpha)m)(i) = ((alpha)t)(i)/d(i)(alpha), where alpha is a real number. In this article, we first give an upper bound on lambda(1)(G) for a non-regular graph involving Delta and D; next present two upper bounds on lambda(1)(G) for a connected graph in terms of d(i) and ((alpha)m)(i); at last obtain a lower bound on lambda(1)(G) for a connected bipartite graph in terms of d(i) and ((alpha)t)(i). Some known results are shown to be the consequences of our theorems.

Abstract:Let G=(V,E) be a graph. A signed dominating function on G is a function f:V→{-1,1} such that ∑u∈N[v]f(u)⩾1 for each v∈V, where N[v] is the closed neighborhood of v. The weight of a signed dominating function f is ∑v∈Vf(v). A signed dominating function f is minimal if there exists no signed dominating function g such that g≠f and g(v)⩽f(v) for each v∈V. The upper signed domination number of a graph G, denoted by Γs(G), equals the maximum weight of a minimal signed dominating function of G. In this paper, we establish an tight upper bound for Γs(G) in terms of minimum degree and maximum degree. Our result is a generalization of those for regular graphs and nearly regular graphs obtained in [O. Favaron, Signed domination in regular graphs, Discrete Math. 158 (1996) 287–293] and [C.X. Wang, J.Z. Mao, Some more remarks on domination in cubic graphs, Discrete Math. 237 (2001) 193–197], respectively.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, Volume 38, Issue 1, Page 590-608, March 2024. We prove two conjectures in spectral extremal graph theory involving the linear combinations of graph eigenvalues. Let [math] be the largest eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of a graph [math] and [math] be the complement of [math]. A nice conjecture states that the graph on [math] vertices maximizing [math] is the join of a clique and an independent set with [math] and [math] (also [math] and [math] if [math]) vertices, respectively. We resolve this conjecture for sufficiently large [math] using analytic methods. Our second result concerns the [math]-spread of a graph [math], which is defined as the difference between the largest eigenvalue and least eigenvalue of the signless Laplacian of [math]. It was conjectured by Cvetković, Rowlinson, and Simić [Publ. Inst. Math., 81 (2007), pp. 11–27] that the unique [math]-vertex connected graph of maximum [math]-spread is the graph formed by adding a pendant edge to [math]. We confirm this conjecture for sufficiently large [math].

Abstract:Let G be a simple connected undirected graph. The Laplacian spectral ratio of G is defined as the quotient between the largest and second smallest Laplacian eigenvalues of G , which is an important parameter in graph theory and networks. We obtain some bounds of the Laplacian spectral ratio in terms of the number of the spanning trees and the sum of powers of the Laplacian eigenvalues. In addition, we study the extremal Laplacian spectral ratio among trees with n vertices, which improves some known results of Z. You and B. Liu (2012).

Abstract:The normalized distance Laplacian of a graph G is defined as DL(G)=T(G)−1/2(T(G)−D(G))T(G)−1/2 where D(G) is the matrix with pairwise distances between vertices and T(G) is the diagonal transmission matrix. In this project, we study the minimum and maximum spectral radii associated with this matrix, and the structures of the graphs that achieve these values. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Reinhart that the complete graph is the unique graph with minimum spectral radius, and we give several partial results towards a second conjecture of Reinhart regarding which graph has the maximum spectral radius.
