Abstract:Advanced functional materials, drives and transmissions, sensors and mechanisms provide solid foundations for developing intelligent robots, for which modelling and simulation tools have contributed greatly to these developments, and facilitated deployments and applications of intelligent robots. Motivated by rapid developments of sensor fusion, intelligent control and machine learning tools and their widely availability at low cost, this special issue aims at disseminating new modelling and simulation methods for developing intelligent robotic systems and their applications. With the emerging applications to robotics, this focused section competitively selects the 10 research papers covering a spectrum of modeling of novel single robots, human-robot interactive systems, and even robotic automation process, which includes modeling of biped and wearable robots, parallel mechanisms, autonomous robots, and robot-environment interaction, as well as modeling with robot visions.

Abstract:The improvement of the development level of mechatronics engineering in the new era has played an important role in promoting the improvement of social production conditions and the increase of productivity. In this context, it is necessary to pay attention to the application of intelligent control engineering and artificial intelligence in order to increase the technical content of mechatronics engineering and improve the level of intelligence in this type of engineering practice. Focusing on the development of mechatronic engineering on AI trend and provide effective technical support for sustainable development can help the production lines to meet the diverse needs of related production practices. In view of this, the article systematically elaborates based on the application of intelligent control engineering and artificial intelligence in mechatronic engineering and gives several real examples of practice applications. It can be a reference for related researchers.

Abstract:Artificial intelligence (AI) is a booming academic field with a wide range of application areas and prospects. Many people, including scientists, technologists, engineers, entrepreneurs and even social managers and scholars of humanities and social science, have shown a strong interest and great enthusiasm for AI-related topics, which has become an important phenomenon of contemporary scientific culture. There is a large collection of documents reflecting on and forecasting the development of AI from different angles. Articles in this special issue, contributed by authors from Shanxi University, reflect the authors’ distinctive and authentic thoughts, aiming to add something new to the database of AI-related documents. Modern science, born during the Renaissance, is the most powerful culture that has transformed humanity and its society. Theoretically, that power comes mainly from science itself, which pursues objective and novel knowledge, is based on solid evidence and rigorous logic and has an inherent self-correcting mechanism. The power of science is manifested in its exclusion of the personal factors of knowledge producers. Through de-subjectivity, knowledge becomes value free in the process of refinement, so that everyone has to accept it. Repeated experiments, peer criticism and sentences in the passive voice are all manifestations of de-valuing and de-subjectivity. Thagard (1989) says that scientific cognition is a kind of ‘cold cognition’ of the scientific community without the influence of emotions, feelings and other factors. However, the results of numerous case studies in the contemporary sociology of scientific knowledge have revealed the presence of gender, class and national interests in the formation of scientific knowledge and even in scientific knowledge itself. Science is not something that is formed in the body and then detached from it. AI, a machine intelligence created by human beings, is a product of science that seems to have nothing to do with the human body, but cannot be separated from it. On the one hand, the hardware and software of AI are created by humans, who have bodies; on the other hand, AI is first and foremost enabled by injecting the intelligence contained in human bodies into machines, before the self-evolution of AI is made possible. Moreover, AI can be imagined only with the simulation of embodied intelligence. Based on this, Zhenhua Zhou, Jianhua Xie and Jing Wang have proposed two possibilities for the future development of machine intelligence by comparing embodied intelligence with current machine intelligence.

Abstract:In the social economic sustained growth, our technology manufacturing industry has been a rapid development, the practice of machinery manufacturing level has been improved, which has made a great contribution to the economic development of our country, and mastered more valuable data theory technology in the practice of inquiry. Especially after entering the background of big data era, the field of mechanical and electronic engineering in China began to develop toward intelligent in practice, and the overall degree of automation and production efficiency have been significantly improved. In recent years, in order to improve the competitiveness of our production, countries have given great attention to the development of mechanical and electronic technology. As a concrete manifestation of scientific and technological progress, artificial intelligence is a successful attempt of multi-disciplinary integration and development, while mechatronics is the transformation of traditional energy into information connection. Therefore, on the basis of understanding the concepts of artificial intelligence and mechanical electronic engineering and according to the development trend of the field of mechanical electronic engineering in recent years, this paper deeply discusses how to reasonably use artificial intelligence technology and improve the comprehensive level of our machinery industry.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the basic connotation and advantages of mechatronics technology in intelligent manufacturing. This paper analyzes the practical application of computer artificial intelligence technology in numerical control technology, sensor technology, production and processing technology, intelligent robot and system integration. This paper takes electromechanical pneumatics as an example to design an artificial intelligence system. First of all, this paper attempts to use the radial basis function-based meshless method to carry out aerodynamic numerical simulation. Then a simple aerodynamic case is processed with Fluent; finally, a simple comparison is made with the results obtained by the mechatronics pneumatic meshless method. It is found that the radial basis function collocation method is a real mechatronics aerodynamic meshless method and the algorithm is simple. The research results of this paper can assist the in-depth study of computer artificial intelligence technology in mechatronics systems.

Abstract:The topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Empowered Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) has drawn more attention recently, with the rapid development of ubiquitous networks and smart vehicles. Researchers around the world have been working on new automotive applications to create a comfortable and safer driving environment. Current challenges include: how to run computing-intensive applications on vehicles; how to enable real-time feedback between vehicles and the traffic management server based on the current Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication modes; and how to provide efficient computing capabilities for resource-consumption applications and reasonable resource allocation for vehicles and infrastructures. Recently, AI has made remarkable achievements in many fields such as image processing, pattern recognition, and natural language processing. It is also involved in computing-intensive applications, such as autopilot and real-time navigation through V2V or V2I. However, AI-Empowered ITS is still in its infancy. How can AI be integrated with ITS and function well in dynamic vehicular network scenarios? In addition, there are still questions on how to design more efficient AI solutions for resource management and coordination in ITS.

Abstract:With the continuous progress of science and technology, the mechanical field is also constantly upgrading from traditional mechanical engineering to the mechatronics engineering and artificial intelligence (AI) is one of them. AI deals with a computer program that possesses own decision-making capability to solve a problem of interest with imitates the intelligent behavior of expertise which finally turns into higher productivity with better quality output. From the inception, various developments have been done on AI system which nowadays widely implemented in the mechanical and/or manufacturing industries with broaden area of application such as pattern recognition, automation, computer vision, virtual reality, diagnosis, image processing, nonlinear control, robotics, automated reasoning, data mining and process control systems. In this study, review attempt has been made for AI technologies used in various mechanical fields such as thermal, manufacturing, design, quality control and various connected fields of mechanical engineering. The study shows the blend mixed of AI technologies like deep convolutional neural network (DCNN), convolutional neural network (CNN), artificial neural network (ANN), fuzzy logic and many more to control the process parameters, process planning, machining, quality control and optimization in the mechanical era for smooth development of product or system. With the implementation of AI in mechanical engineering applications, the error, rejection of components can be minimized or eliminated and system optimization can be achieved effectively turn in economical better quality products.

The aim is to explore how AI techniques can be effectively integrated into mechatronic systems to optimize production processes, improve product quality, and enable adaptive and intelligent manufacturing systems.The paper begins by discussing the fundamental concepts of mechatronic systems and their importance in smart manufacturing. Mechatronic systems combine mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering disciplines to design and develop intelligent systems with enhanced functionality and performance. The integration of AI techniques in mechatronics brings together the power of AI algorithms and control systems to create intelligent and autonomous systems capable of making real-time decisions and adaptations.
