Abstract:Multiple cropping allows for crop intensification in two dimensions, vertical and horizontal. In multiple cropping, it is necessary to study pests over the entire cropping period, because the pests of one crop might be influenced by the previous crop as well as by companion crops in intercropping patterns. A portion of pest management research in multiple cropping patterns will be predictive in nature. Development of pest management technology for multiple cropping systems must take into account the resources of the farmer. Many variables and their effects on pests need to be determined as a result of introducing new crop species, replacing varieties, and arranging crops in time and space. Research on pest management in multiple cropping systems should take into consideration crop‐crop interactions, be they intercrop, relay, or sequential, and the performance of individual crops.
