Abstract:There is an urgent need to transition our economy, society, and culture towards systems and actions that facilitate ecological sustainability. Such radical change requires equally radical transformation of approaches to decision making and resource use. Sustainable entrepreneurship (SE) is often presented as the answer to meeting the triple‐bottom‐line challenges that businesses face; however, there are very real limits to what it can achieve. SE is in the early stages of adopting tools at the technological frontier that offer empirical guidance at every point of an entrepreneurial decision‐making process. Big Data (BD) advances the potential for artificial intelligence (AI) to inform decision making, while also charting pathways to achieve desired outcomes. So far, the interactions between AI, BD, and SE have been generally under‐studied. In this primarily conceptual paper, we address the lack of work consolidating and synthesizing these literatures. We suggest that AI and BD readily contribute to further sustainable development of the weak form, but that it also holds great promise for achieving the strong sustainability ideal. We offer two propositions regarding how the integration of AI and BD can inform/support SE. We conclude by mapping out potential avenues for future research.

A Market for Lemons? Strategic Directions for a Vigilant Application of Artificial Intelligence in Entrepreneurship Research

Abstract:The rapid expansion of AI adoption (e.g., using machine learning, deep learning, or large language models as research methods) and the increasing availability of big data have the potential to bring about the most significant transformation in entrepreneurship scholarship the field has ever witnessed. This article makes a pressing meta-contribution by highlighting a significant risk of unproductive knowledge exchanges in entrepreneurship research amid the AI revolution. It offers strategies to mitigate this risk and provides guidance for future AI-based studies to enhance their collective impact and relevance. Drawing on Akerlof's renowned market-for-lemons concept, we identify the potential for significant knowledge asymmetries emerging from the field's evolution into its current landscape (e.g., complexities around construct validity, theory building, and research relevance). Such asymmetries are particularly deeply ingrained due to what we term the double-black-box puzzle, where the widely recognized black box nature of AI methods intersects with the black box nature of the entrepreneurship phenomenon driven by inherent uncertainty. As a result, these asymmetries could lead to an increase in suboptimal research products that go undetected, collectively creating a market for lemons that undermines the field's well-being, reputation, and impact. However, importantly, if these risks can be mitigated, the AI revolution could herald a new golden era for entrepreneurship research. We discuss the necessary actions to elevate the field to a higher level of AI resilience while steadfastly maintaining its foundational principles and core values.

Abstract:In the Fourth Industrial Revolution, recent technologies progress in the spaces of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are changing entrepreneurship and economic growth significantly. Recent research found high levels of concern about how AI impacts the productivity of entrepreneurship and economic growth. This chapter aims to develop a theoretical framework for thinking about AI’s potential implications on the relationship between entrepreneurship and economic growth. First, we model entrepreneurship in new start-ups as the principal cause of business cycles and economic growth. Then, drawing from the Knowledge Spillover Theory, we suggest that AI can bring the benefit of creating new knowledge to entrepreneurship and thus contribute to economic growth. Finally, we address the possible main lines of future developments for AI, entrepreneurship and economic growth.

The paper investigates the wide range of implications of artificial intelligence (AI), and delves deeper into both positive and negative impacts on governments, communities, companies, and individuals. This paper investigates the overall impact of AI - from research and innovation to deployment. The paper addresses the influential academic achievements and innovations in the field of AI; their impact on the entrepreneurial activities and thus on the global market. The paper also contributes in investigating factors responsible for the advancement of AI. Abstract:Abstract Generative artificial intelligence has seen fast paced developments, with it being utilised in numerous contexts, including both entrepreneurship and education. This has led to calls to integrate generative artificial intelligence into entrepreneurship education, to help prepare students to take advantage of future entrepreneurial opportunities. The technology also has the potential to influence pedagogy, teaching practice, and assessment and has raised concerns and questions within education about how educators can train students to use the latest technology to prepare them for the future, whilst managing potential changes to teaching practice. However, given the rapid emergence of the technology, discussion as to the implications for education and particularly entrepreneurship education is limited and there have been calls for further exploration and discussion. This paper addresses these calls by discussing some of the potential implications which generative artificial intelligence brings to entrepreneurship education and the entrepreneurship classroom, at both a macro and curricular level. The advancement of generative artificial intelligence furthers the need for entrepreneurship educators to embrace the technology in a managed way, develop students critical and reflective thinking, and foster the development and assessment of practical and technical entrepreneurial skills, to support student’s effective utilisation of generative artificial intelligence. Educators should also be aware of the potential effects which generative artificial intelligence poses to teaching and assessment.

Abstract:Abstract The world of AI offers new opportunities for companies and is therefore of particular interest to entrepreneurs at potentially every level impacting their business. The following article therefore tries to classify the roles of artificial intelligence (AI) applications on the strategic level and their influence on business models. By means of case studies, current business practice will be examined to give entrepreneurs and researchers an understanding of this technology, by providing practical examples so that they can pursue their own AI path. The analysis is based on case studies that examine the role of AI in a company’s business model, both for new market participants in the form of start-ups and incumbents such as the tech giants. By means of case studies, both sides of the extremes are covered in order to provide a picture of the scope of the applications. Insights from these case studies are processed to develop a classification scheme of the influence of AI on business models. Furthermore, the interaction of the different innovation possibilities of AI is compared and with that the importance for the innovative power of companies. Additionally, strategy types are developed on the basis of the presented classification scheme, but give entrepreneurs a suggestion for their own AI path in terms of AI applications to consider. Further, research could consider the influence of the presented AI roles in business models, especially the AI-driven business model is of interest here.

Abstract:Abstract: The corporate has been changing fast and for the good in start-up culture because of artificial intelligence. The research examines the impact of AI on start-ups and highlights its potential to revolutionise innovation in business. In this paper, our research seeks to determine where marketing-only AI has been applied as data and case studies were not readily available for derivation of compound measures. Results indicate that AI use leads to better decision-making, more Bicer processing, and substantial cost savings. Implementation costs are high, it requires specialised expertise and occasionally ethical considerations. The study provides insights for future work on the benefits and challenges of AI incorporation in start-ups. This has important implications for start-ups, suggesting that while AI offers many opportunities to infuse their offerings with innovation and smart capabilities based on real-time analytics or deep learning paradigms, successful adoption and ultimate stability will demand solid navigation of the associated constraints

Abstract:The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed global business, aiding operational efficiency and innovation. It utilizes machine learning and big data analytics, driving predictive market trends and strategic decision‐making. However, despite the rising discussion and accessibility of AI tools, understanding its impact on international business remains limited. This article explores AI's potential in international business strategies, practices, and activities. To address this aim, we reviewed 37 articles in the existing literature to critically explore AI within the context of international business. More specifically, we explored how AI can be applied to innovation approaches in international business, international market selection, entry modes, foreign exchange, international human resource management, international supply chains, managing across cultures, and more topics. AI has necessitated changes in workplace configurations and the need for organizational and employee adjustments in response to this technology. As a result of the foregoing issues on AI integration within international business, our analysis provided an exploratory discussion around its use, challenges, managerial implications, and suggested areas requiring future studies.

Abstract:<span>The concept of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a business-disruptive technology has developed in academic and professional literature in a chaotic and unstructured manner. This study aims to provide clarity over the phenomenon of business activation of AI by means of a comprehensive and systematic literature review, aimed at suggesting a clear description of what Artificial Intelligence is today. The study analyses a corpus of 3780 contributions through an original combination of two established machine learning algorithms (LDA and hierarchical clustering). The review produced a structured classification of the various streams of current research and a list of promising emerging trends. Results have shed light on six topics attributable to three different themes, namely Implications, Applications and Methods (IAM model). Our analysis could provide researchers and practitioners with a meaningful overview of the body of knowledge and research agenda, to exploit AI as an effective enabler to drive business value.</span>

Abstract:This study aims to explore the design of business models and transformation management of new entrepreneurial ventures driven by artificial intelligence (AI). Through literature analysis, the study delves into the impact of AI applications on business models in new entrepreneurial ventures and explores effective strategies for transformation management. Firstly, the research reviews the concepts and development of artificial intelligence, analyzes the theoretical foundations of business model design for new entrepreneurial ventures, and emphasizes its importance. Secondly, this paper discusses the opportunities and challenges brought by artificial intelligence to traditional business models, as well as the role and influence of artificial intelligence in enterprise transformation management. Finally, focusing on business model innovation, the research reveals methods and strategies for utilizing artificial intelligence technologies in business model innovation. The research findings indicate that artificial intelligence has a significant impact on the design of business models and transformation management in new entrepreneurial ventures, providing innovative opportunities and effective transformation pathways. However, the study also has certain limitations, and future research can further explore other relevant factors and expand the sample size for a more comprehensive understanding.

However, the technology is still in a relatively early state in large enterprises, and largely absent from smaller ones other than technology startups. Surveys suggest that fewer than half of large organizations have meaningful AI initiatives underway, although the percentage is increasing over time. Artificial Intelligence in the Service of Entrepreneurial Finance: Knowledge Structure and the Foundational Algorithmic Paradigm

Abstract:While the application of Artificial Intelligence in Finance has a long tradition, its potential in Entrepreneurship has been intensively explored only recently. In this context, Entrepreneurial Finance is a particularly fertile ground for future Artificial Intelligence proliferation. To support the latter, the study provides a bibliometric review of Artificial Intelligence applications in (1) entrepreneurial finance literature, and (2) corporate finance literature with implications for Entrepreneurship. Rigorous search and screening procedures of the scientific database Web of Science Core Collection resulted in the identification of 1890 relevant journal articles subjected to analysis. The bibliometric analysis gives a rich insight into the knowledge field's conceptual, intellectual, and social structure, indicating nascent and underdeveloped research directions. As far as we were able to identify, this is the first study to map and bibliometrically analyze the academic field concerning the relationship between Artificial Intelligence, Entrepreneurship, and Finance, and the first review that deals with Artificial Intelligence methods in Entrepreneurship. According to the results, Artificial Neural Network, Deep Neural Network and Support Vector Machine are highly represented in almost all identified topic niches. At the same time, applying Topic Modeling, Fuzzy Neural Network and Growing Hierarchical Self-organizing Map is quite rare. As an element of the research, and before final remarks, the article deals as well with a discussion of certain gaps in the relationship between Computer Science and Economics. These gaps do represent problems in the application of Artificial Intelligence in Economic Science. As a way to at least in part remedy this situation, the foundational paradigm and the bespoke demonstration of the Monte Carlo randomized algorithm are presented.

Abstract:Abstract The growing ubiquity of the Internet and the information overload created a new economy at the end of the twentieth century: the economy of attention. While difficult to size, we know that it exceeds proxies such as the global online advertising market which is now over $300 billion with a reach of 60% of the world population. A discussion of the attention economy naturally leads to the data economy and collecting data from large-scale interactions with consumers. We discuss the impact of AI in this setting, particularly of biased data, unfair algorithms, and a user-machine feedback loop tainted by digital manipulation and the cognitive biases of users. The impact includes loss of privacy, unfair digital markets, and many ethical implications that affect society as a whole. The goal is to outline that a new science for understanding, valuing, and responsibly navigating and benefiting from attention and data is much needed.

Abstract:<p class="a-plus-plus">Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (BD&AI) have become so pervasive, and the opportunities they present so transformative, that they are viewed as essential for competitive growth. Since the number of firms adopting BD&AI technologies is growing exponentially, the demand for BD&AI practitioners is also growing at a rapid rate. However, several studies indicate that there is a BD&AI talent shortage and skills gap between labor market requirements and expertise available in the current workforce. This talent shortage and skills gap are now recognized as a crucial impediment in leveraging BD&AI for economic growth at the local, national, and global levels. This research aims to identify BD&AI workforce trends, gaps, and opportunities by using bibliometric analysis and extracting insights from job posting data. The study team first conducted bibliometric research and built word co-occurrence diagrams using BD&AI related articles published in high-impact journals to determine technological changes impacting various industry domains. The team then collected job postings data and summarized the skill sets required to be competitive in industries driven by BD&AI. Finally, the study team evaluated the curricula of BD&AI programs at various colleges and universities educating the future workforce and conducted a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis to bridge the gaps between industry needs and academic training. This multi-step research framework forecasts oncoming technological changes in various industry clusters, workforce skills that are and will be needed, and provides recommendations for a workforce development roadmap so that businesses can gain a competitive advantage through the use of BD&AI.</p>
