Abstract:The glycine sodium nitrite crystal reported by Khandpekar and Pati in the paper entitled, Synthesis and characterisation of glycine sodium nitrite crystals having non linear optical behaviour, Opt Commun 285, 2012 288-293 is actually gamma-glycine. In addition, we show that glycine barium ammonium nitrate, glycine sodium zinc sulfate, glycine barium calcium nitrate, glycine acetamide and glycine dimer are dubious crystals.

Solution growth and studies of undoped and lithium nitrate added glycine sodium nitrate single crystals

Abstract:Solution growth by slow evaporation method has been employed to grow semi-organic nonlinear optical crystals of pure and lithium nitrate doped glycine sodium nitrate (GSN). The grown crystals were subjected by single crystal and powder Xray diffraction techniques to identify the crystal structure and diffraction planes. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra were recorded to identify the functional groups of the samples. Ultra Violet (UV)-visible spectral studies for the grown samples were carried out and analyzed. The investigations indicate the inclusion of the dopant into the lattice of GSN and enhancement of optical properties due to the incorporation of the dopant LiNO3 into the lattice of GSN. Second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency was measured by Kurtz-Perry technique. The obtained results from various studies were discussed.

Abstract:The single crystals of tristhiourea lanthanum nitrate (TTLaN) have been grown by solution growth using slow evaporation technique. The optical study revealed that the crystal has high transmission with lower cut-off wavelength of 235.78 nm. The EDAX analysis confirmed the grown compound elements. The presence of functional groups was identified through Fourier transform-infrared technique. The thermal stability of the crystal was determined from thermo gravimetric and differential thermal analysis curve. The second harmonic generation behavior of TTLaN crystal was tested by Kurtz-Perry powder technique. This single novel semiorganic crystal of TTLaN showed very good optical transmission property, high thermal stability and large non-linearity nature.

Abstract:An optically high-quality single crystal of sodium mesitylene sulfonate crystal was successfully grown by a slow evaporation method using methanol as solvent at room temperature. Single-crystal XRD has characterized the material and belongs to a monoclinic structure with a C2 space group. Functional groups were determined using Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy. The optical quality of the generated crystal was evaluated using UV-Vis NIR spectral analysis, which is transparent in the range of 300-1500 nm. We report the optical properties using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) and THz generation using crystal.

Abstract:A series of near-stoichiometric Zn:LiNbO3 (Zn:NSLN) crystals were grown by the top seed solution growth (TSSG) method using K2O as flux. Defect structures and Zn2+ occupation mechanism were analyzed and discussed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), differential thermal analysis (DTA), ultraviolet-visible (UV) absorption and infrared (IR) spectrum measurement. Moreover, we also found that the threshold concentration of ZnO in NSLN were between 2 and 3mol%.

Abstract:The scientific community believes that high-quality, bulk layered, semiconducting single crystals are crucial for producing two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets. This has a significant impact on current cutting-edge science in the development of next-generation electrical and optoelectronic devices. To meet this ever-increasing demand, efforts have been made to manufacture high-quality SnS2 single crystals utilizing low-cost CVT (chemical vapor transportation) technology, which allows for large-scale crystal production. Based on the chemical reaction that occurs throughout the CVT process, a viable mechanism for SnS2 growth is postulated in this paper. Optical, XRD with Le Bail fitting, TEM, and SEM are used to validate the quality, phase, gross structural/microstructural analyses, and morphology of SnS2 single crystals. Furthermore, Raman, TXRF, XPS, UV–Vis, and PL spectroscopy are used to corroborate the quality of the SnS2 single crystals, as well as the proposed energy level diagram for indirect transition in the bulk SnS2 single crystals. As a result, the suggested method provides a cost-effective method for growing high-quality SnS2 single crystals, which could lead to a new alternative resource for producing 2D SnS2 nanosheets, which are in great demand for designing next-generation optoelectronic and quantum devices.

Abstract:Sodium p-nitrophenolate p-nitrophenol dihydrate (SPPD) semi-organic single crystal was grown by adopting slow-evaporation solution growth technique (SEST) at 35 °C. Powder X-ray diffraction was used to analyze its lattice parameters, phase and crystal system, and it turned out that the grown crystal crystallizes in monoclinic non-centrosymmetric space group C2. UV–Vis spectrum was used to examine its optical properties and it was found that in the visible region, it exhibits high transmittance with a wide band gap of 2.29 eV. Mechanical and thermal stability was confirmed by the Vickers microhardness and TG-DTA, respectively. The non-covalent interactions have been investigated by graphing the data using reduced density gradient (RDG) and Multiwfn. Quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) through topological research has been used to estimate the inter and intramolecular charge transfer of sodium p-nitrophenolate p-nitrophenol dihydrate (SPPD). Abstract:Large size single crystals of bis(thiourea)zinc(II) chloride (BTZC), a potential nonlinear optical material, have been grown successfully by the Sankaranarayanan Ramasamy (SR) method. Powder X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared analyses confirmed the material of the grown crystal. Thermal stability was assessed by the thermogravimetric differential thermal analysis. The high-resolution X-ray diffraction and dielectric measurements indicate that the crystal grown by the SR method has good crystalline perfection and low density of defects.

Abstract:Thallium doped Cesium Iodide (CsI:Tl) radioluminescent microcrystals are promising candidate for scintillation applications that include medical imaging, nuclear safety and high energy particle detection applications. This paper introduces, for the very first time, an antisolvent recrystallization method to synthesize microcrystals of CsI:Tl. The antisolvent recrystallization method is useful for synthesizing microcrystals at room temperature under atmospheric pressure and humidity conditions with high product yield approaching ∼90 %. The polycrystalline nature of the CsI:Tl microcrystals is confirmed from the X-ray diffraction analysis, wherein the crystallite size is found to be in the range of 20–25 nm. The scanning electron microscopy revealed the size of microcrystals in the range of 1–13 μm. The doping concentration of thallium (with 0.06, 0.10, 0.20, 0.50 and 1.00 mol%) strongly affects the luminescence yield. At higher concentration of doping, a shift towards long wavelength is observed. The strongest luminescence yield is observed in the sample of 0.2 mol% Thallium doping, which is around 76 % of luminescence compared to single crystal of CsI:Tl. This work provides a low-cost alternative to the growth of radioluminescent microcrystals in comparison with the existing single crystal growth approaches.

Abstract:A new compound, semicarbazidium 3,5-dihydroxy-2,4,6-trinitrophenolate hemihydrate (SCDHTNP center dot 0.5H(2)O), was synthesized by the reaction of the aqueous solutions of semicarbazide with trinitrophloroglucinol. Its structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, DSC and TG-DTG techniques. The crystal is monoclinic with space group P2(1)/n and the empirical formula C7H9N6O10.50. The unit cell parameters are: alpha = 1.3791(3) mn, b = 0.9256(2) nm, c = 2.0468(4) nm, beta = 106.93(3)degrees, V = 2.4995(9) nm(3), Z = 8, D-c= 1.835 g/cm(3), M-r = 345.20, F(000) = 1416, s = 0.945, mu(Mo K alpha) = 0.174 mm(-1). The final R and wR are 0.0401 and 0.0896. Its structure consists of two semicarbazidium cations, two 3,5-dihydroxy-2,4,6-trinitrophenolate anions and one crystal water molecule, which are interconnected by electrostatic forces and hydrogen bonds into layer structure, making the title compound very stable. Under a linear heating rate, the thermal decomposition processes of SCDHTNP center dot 0.5H(2)O have one endothermal dehydration stage and two intensive exothermic decomposition stages at 178-241 degrees C to evolve abundant gas products.

Abstract:A novel mild solution route, polyol route, was developed to synthesize nanoscale tin sulfides (SnS and SnS2) flaky crystallines. XRD procedure reveals that the products are well crystallized. TEM observation shows that the products are of uniform flaky structure with irregular drapes. And the possible formation mechanism is also discussed.

Abstract:Single-crystal trigonal (t) Se nanobelts have been synthesized on a large scale by reducing SeO2 with glucose at 160 degrees C. Electron microscopy images show that the nanobelts are similar to 80 nm in diameter, similar to 25 nm in thickness, and up to several hundreds of micrometers in length. HRTEM images prove that the nanobelts are single crystals and preferentially grow along the [ 001] direction. The time-dependent TEM images revealed that the formation and growth of t-Se nanobelts were governed by a solid-solution-solid growth mechanism. The redox reaction directly produced amorphous (alpha) Se nanoparticles under hydrothermal conditions. t-Se nanobelts were formed by dissolution and recrystallization of the initial alpha-Se nanoparticles under the functional capping of poly( vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP). The nanobelts obtained exhibit a quantum size effect in optical properties, showing a blue shift of the band gap and direct transitions relative to the values of bulk t-Se.
