Abstract:We discuss the possibility of the existence of a long-lived top squark ($\tau\ll 10^{10} years$) and its motivation. If the stop is indeed metastable, it forms hadrons. We study properties of the low-energy stop-containing hadrons and their signatures in collider experiments.

Abstract:The most natural supersymmetric solution to the hierarchy problem prefers the scalar top partner to be close in mass to the top quark. Experimental searches exclude top squarks across a wide range of masses, but a gap remains when the difference between the masses of the stop and the lightest supersymmetric particle is close to the top mass. We propose to search for stops in this regime by exploiting the azimuthal angular correlation of forward tagging jets in (s)top pair production. As shown in earlier work, this correlation is sensitive to the spin of the heavy states, allowing one to distinguish between top and stop pair production. Here, we demonstrate that this angular information can give a statistically significant stop pair production signal in the upcoming LHC run. While the appropriate simulation including parton showering and detector simulation requires some care, we find stable predictions for the angular correlation using multijet merging.

Abstract:{\it Why continue looking for supersymmetry?} Over and above the aesthetic and theoretical motivations from string theory, there are several longstanding phenomenological motivations for TeV-scale supersymmetry such as the electroweak scale, and the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) as cold dark matter. Run~1 of the LHC has actually provided three extra motivations, namely the stabilization of the electroweak vacuum, and successful predictions for the Higgs mass and couplings. {\it How to look for it?} There are several examples of emergent supersymmetry, the most recent being on the surfaces of topological insulators, and some sort of effective supersymmetry could be useful for boosting the power of laser arrays. At the LHC, attention is moving towards signatures that had previously been neglected, such as long-lived charged particles - which might be an opportunity for the MoEDAL experiment.

Abstract:Supersymmetric models with low electroweak fine-tuning are more prevalent on the string landscape than fine-tuned models. We assume a fertile patch of landscape vacua containing the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) as a low-energy EFT. Such models are characterized by light higgsinos in the mass range of a few hundred GeV whilst top squarks are in the 1-2.5 TeV range. Other sparticles are generally beyond current LHC reach. We evaluate prospects for top squark searches of the expected natural SUSY at HL-LHC.

Abstract:The search for Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) physics is one of the major tasks of the LHC, CERN. In these proceedings, I review the status of searches for Supersymmetry by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. The efforts in both the hadronic and leptonic search channels are presented. A special focus is placed on the treatment of approximately one inverse femtobarn of early LHC data, and examples of background estimation techniques in such a dataset are given. Phenomenologically, besides "typical" mSUGRA scenarios, signatures based on prompt and non-pointing photons, as well as long-lived leptons and hadrons (R-hadrons) are covered.

Top squarks from the landscape at high luminosity LHC

Abstract:Supersymmetric models with low electroweak finetuning are expected to be more prevalent on the string landscape than finetuned models. We assume a fertile patch of landscape vacua containing the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) as low energy/weak scale effective field theory (LE-EFT). Then, a statistical pull by the landscape to large soft terms is balanced by the requirement of a derived value of the weak scale which is not too far from its measured value in our universe. Such models are characterized by light higgsinos in the few hundred GeV range whilst top squarks are in the 1-2.5 TeV range with large trilinear soft terms which helps to push m_h~ 125 GeV. Other sparticles are generally beyond current LHC reach and the BR(b -> s\gamma ) branching fraction is nearly equal to its SM value. The light top-squarks decay comparably via \tst_1 -> b\tchi_1^+ and \tst_1 -> t\tchi_{1,2}^0 yielding mixed final states of b\bar{b}+MET, t\bar{b}/\ \bar{t}b + MET and t\bar{t}+ MET. We evaluate prospects for top squark discovery at high-luminosity (HL) LHC for the well-motivated case of natural SUSY from the landscape. We find for HL-LHC a 5\sigma reach out to m_{\tst_1}~ 1.7 TeV and a 95\% CL exclusion reach to m_{\tst_1} ~ 2 TeV. These reaches cover {\it most} (but not all) of the allowed stringy natural parameter space!

The final state has two charged leptons (electrons or muons) and two $b$-jets. The results of the search are interpreted in the context of a Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with an additional $B-L$ gauge symmetry that is spontaneously broken. No significant excess is observed over the Standard Model background and exclusion limits on stop pair production are set at 95% confidence level. The corresponding lower limits on the stop mass for 100% branching ratios to a $b$-quark and an electron, muon, or tau-lepton are 1.9 TeV, 1.8 TeV and 800 GeV, respectively, extending the reach of previous LHC searches.

Abstract:This paper reviews some of the most recent results from CDF and D0 experiments on searches for supersymmetry (SUSY) at the Tevatron. We focus on searches for chargino/neutralino, stop, sbottom, and long lived massive SUSY particles, on data samples up to ~1 fb-1. No signal was observed, and constraints are set on the SUSY parameter space.

Abstract:The search for supersymmetry with the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider intensified after the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012. The search programme expanded in both breadth and depth, profiting from the increased integrated luminosity and higher centre-of-mass energy of Run 2, and gaining new sensitivity to unexplored areas of supersymmetry parameter space through the use of new experimental signatures and innovative analysis techniques. This report summarises the supersymmetry searches at ATLAS using up to 140 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV, including the limits set on the production of gluinos, squarks, and electroweakinos for scenarios either with or without R-parity conservation, and including models where some of the supersymmetric particles are long-lived.

An alternative form of supersymmetry with reduced cross-sections and modified experimental signatures

Abstract:There is a convincing case for some form of supersymmetry, but conventional supersymmetry has been plagued by many unsolved theoretical difficulties, and not a single superpartner has been identified up to surprisingly high experimental limits. These failures suggest that it is appropriate to rethink the meaning of supersymmetry at the most fundamental level. Here we consider a radically different form of supersymmetry, which initially combines standard Weyl fermion fields and primitive (unphysical) boson fields. A stable vacuum then requires that the initial boson fields be transformed into three kinds of scalar-boson fields: the usual complex fields $\phi$, auxiliary fields $F$, and real fields $\varphi$ of a new kind. The requirement of a stable vacuum thus imposes Lorentz invariance, and also immediately breaks the initial susy -- whereas the breaking of conventional supersymmetry has long been a formidable difficulty. Even more importantly, for future experimental success, the present formulation may explain why no superpartners have yet been identified: Embedded in an $SO(10)$ grand-unified description, most of the conventional processes for production, decay, and detection of sfermions are excluded, and the same is true for many processes involving gauginos and higgsinos. This implies that superpartners with masses $\sim 1$ TeV may exist, but with reduced cross-sections and modified experimental signatures. For example, a top squark (as redefined here) will not decay at all, but can radiate pairs of gauge bosons and will also leave straight tracks through second-order (electromagnetic, weak, strong, and Higgs) interactions with detectors. The predictions of the present theory include (1) the dark matter candidate of our previous papers, (2) many new fermions with masses not far above 1 TeV, and (3) the full range of superpartners with a modified phenomenology.

Abstract:In the supersymmetry (SUSY) models, because of the mass difference between the left- and right-top squarks, the supersymmetric QCD interactions can generate parity violating effects in the production of tt̄ pairs. We show that SUSY QCD radiative corrections to the parity violating asymmetry in the production rates of the left- and right-handed top quarks via the qq̄→tt̄ process can reach about 3% at the Fermilab Tevatron with s=2 TeV. This could be observable with an integrated luminosity larger than 2fb−1. We also show that in these models the SUSY QCD radiative corrections to the tt̄ production rate are small unless gluinos are very light, of the order of 1 GeV.

Abstract:Supersymmetry (SUSY) provides elegant solutions to several problems in the Standard Model and searches for SUSY particles are an important component of the LHC physics program. The latest results from electroweak and strong SUSY searches are reported here, conducted by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC. The searches target multiple final states and different assumptions about the decay mode of the produced SUSY particles, including searches for both R-parity conserving models and R-parity violating models, and their possible connections with the recent observation of the flavour and muon g-2 anomalies. The talk will also highlight the employment of novel analysis techniques, including advanced machine learning techniques and special object reconstruction, that are necessary for many of these analyses to extend the sensitivity reach to challenging regions of the phase space.

Abstract:Motivated by the observed excess of the di-photon signal in Higgs searches, σγγ/σSM≃1.5, we argue that models with enhanced Γ(h→γγ) alone are the most favorable scenarios when the latest LHC/Tevatron results are all taken into account. We study the phenomenology of a supersymmetric scenario of light stau that predicts a 125 GeV SM-like Higgs boson with enhanced di-photon decay through light stau loops. Since it is extremely challenging to search the Drell–Yan stau pair at the LHC due to the small production rate, we focus on the parameter space with enhanced production of inclusive stau pairs, in particular, via bb¯ fusion or gaugino pairs. We study its phenomenology in both pure leptonic tau τℓ± channels and hadronic tau tagged τh channels. We find the same-sign dilepton from χ˜1±χ˜20→τℓ±τℓ±+X may significantly improve the discovery potential with even 7–8 TeV LHC of O(30fb−1) data. In the case of hadronic tau pair, we use the final state j+τhτh+E̸T to search and find that even with the most optimistic region of M2∼200–300GeV, it requires at least 50 fb−1 data of 14 TeV LHC to reach a significance of 3.5σ. Therefore, we conclude it is difficult to claim discovery only through hadronic tau based on the data by the 2012 shut-down. 5σ reach for our most optimistic region then requires 100 fb−1 data with 14 TeV running.
Search for top squark pair production in a final state with at least one hadronically decaying tau lepton in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

Abstract:A search for pair production of the supersymmetric partner of the top quark, the top squark, in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV is presented in final states containing at least one hadronically decaying tau lepton and large missing transverse momentum. This final state is highly sensitive to scenarios of supersymmetry in which the decay of the top squark to tau leptons is enhanced. The search uses a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb$^{-1}$, which was recorded with the CMS detector during 2016-2018. No significant excess is observed with respect to the standard model predictions. Exclusion limits at 95% confidence level on the masses of the top squark and the lightest neutralino are presented under the assumptions of simplified models. The results probe top squark masses up to 1150 GeV for a nearly massless neutralino. This search covers a relatively less explored parameter space in the context of supersymmetry, and the exclusion limit is the most stringent to date for the model considered here.

Abstract:A search is conducted for new phenomena in events with a top quark pair and large missing transverse momentum, where the top quark pair is reconstructed in final states with one isolated electron or muon and multiple jets. The search is performed using the Large Hadron Collider proton--proton collision data sample at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb$^{-1}$. An analysis based on neural network classifiers is optimised to search for directly produced pairs of supersymmetric partners of the top quark (stop), and to search for spin-0 mediators, produced in association with a pair of top quarks, that decay into dark-matter particles. In the stop search, the analysis is designed to target models in which the mass difference between the stop and the neutralino from the stop decay is close to the top quark mass. This new search is combined with previously published searches in final states with different lepton multiplicities. No significant excess above the Standard Model background is observed, and limits at 95% confidence level are set. Models with neutralinos with masses up to 570 GeV are excluded, while for small neutralino masses models are excluded for stop masses up to 1230 GeV. Scalar (pseudoscalar) dark matter mediator masses as large as 350 (370) GeV are excluded when the coupling strengths of the mediator to Standard Model and dark-matter particles are both set to one. At lower mediator masses, models with production cross-sections as small as 0.15 (0.16) times the nominal predictions are excluded. Results of this search are also used to set constraints on effective four-fermion contact interactions between top quarks and neutrinos.

Abstract:The paper presents a search for supersymmetric particles produced in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 13 TeV and decaying into final states with missing transverse momentum and jets originating from charm quarks. The data were taken with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN from 2015 to 2018 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$. No significant excess of events over the expected Standard Model background expectation is observed in optimized signal regions, and limits are set on the production cross-sections of the supersymmetric particles. Pair production of charm squarks or top squarks, each decaying into a charm quark and the lightest supersymmetric particle $\tilde{\chi}^0_1$, is excluded at 95% confidence level for squarks with masses up to 900 GeV for scenarios where the mass of $\tilde{\chi}^0_1$ is below 50 GeV. Additionally, the production of leptoquarks with masses up to 900 GeV is excluded for the scenario where up-type leptoquarks decay into a charm quark and a neutrino. Model-independent limits on cross-sections and event yields for processes beyond the Standard Model are also reported.

Abstract:We present a detailed study of the anomalous top quark production with subsequent decay at the LHC induced by model-independent flavor-changing neutral-current couplings, incorporating the complete next-to-leading order QCD effects. Our results show that, taking into account the current limits from the Tevatron, the LHC with √s=7 TeV may discover the anomalous coupling at 5σ level for a very low integrated luminosity of 61 pb⁻¹. The discovery potentials for the anomalous couplings at the LHC are examined in detail. We also discuss the possibility of using the charge ratio to distinguish the tug and tcg couplings.

Abstract:This paper provides an overview of supersymmetry (SUSY) and the ongoing efforts to detect SUSY particles at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). SUSY proposes corresponding "sparticles" for each Standard Model particle, with the potential to resolve the hierarchy problem, identify dark matter, and unify forces at high energy scales. We explore the key observables central to SUSY searches at the LHC, such as effective mass ($M_{\text{eff}}$), scalar sum of transverse momenta ($H_T$), and stransverse mass ($M_{T2}$)--each of which is instrumental in distinguishing SUSY particles by their mass scales and decay characteristics. The paper also discusses the challenges of differentiating SUSY signals from Standard Model backgrounds, particularly in scenarios without significant missing transverse momentum ($E_T^{\text{miss}}$).

Abstract:Supersymmetry may be discovered at high energy colliders, through low energy precision measurements, and by dark matter searches. We present a comprehensive analysis of all available probes in minimal supergravity. This work extends previous analyses by including the focus point branch of parameter space and the full array of promising indirect dark matter searches. We find that particle and astrophysical searches underway are highly complementary: each separately provides only partial coverage of the available parameter space, but together they probe almost all models. Cosmology does {\em not} provide upper bounds on superpartner masses useful for future colliders. At the same time, in the cosmologically preferred region, if supersymmetry is to be observable at a 500 GeV linear collider, some signature of supersymmetry must appear {\em before} the LHC.
Search for supersymmetry in final states with disappearing tracks in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

Abstract:A search is presented for charged, long-lived supersymmetric particles in final states with one or more disappearing tracks. The search is based on data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC between 2016 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb$^{-1}$. The search is performed over final states characterized by varying numbers of jets, b-tagged jets, electrons, and muons. The length of signal-candidate tracks in the plane perpendicular to the beam axis is used to characterize the lifetimes of wino- and higgsino-like charginos produced in the context of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. The d$E$/d$x$ energy loss of signal-candidate tracks is used to increase the sensitivity to charginos with a large mass and thus a small Lorentz boost. The observed results are found to be statistically consistent with the background-only hypothesis. Limits on the pair production cross section of gluinos and squarks are presented in the framework of simplified models of supersymmetric particle production and decay, and for electroweakino production based on models of wino and higgsino dark matter. The limits presented are the most stringent to date for scenarios with light third-generation squarks and a wino- or higgsino-like dark matter candidate capable of explaining the known dark matter relic density.
