Abstract:A wave function of Bethe ansatz form is used to obtain approximate solutions for a 1+1 dimensional Hubbard model. In this model a helical structure with infinite diameter is constructed to mimic the square lattice. Betheansatz analysis is performed along the helical line. By including the hopping integrals in perpendicular direction, the solutions show some recovery of two dimensional character. At half-filling, the system undergoes Mott transition, the critical value of on-site repulsion obtained by this scheme is smaller than that of the mean-field theory. For a given particle density, the energy level of corresponding one dimensional model is extended to a “band”. The relation of the results to the properties of two dimensional strong-correlation system is discussed.

Abstract:We propose a novel characterization of the exact solution of the one-dimensional Hubbard model with unparallel boundary magnetic fields. The non-diagonal boundary terms break the U(1) symmetry of the system and the number of electrons with fixed spin is not conserved. Thus it is difficult to study the physical quantities in the thermodynamic limit based on the previously obtained inhomogeneous T−Q relation and Bethe ansatz equations. In order to solve this problem, we propose the t−W scheme. The basic idea is that the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix can be expressed by its zero-roots instead of the usual Bethe roots. This method allows us to study thermodynamic properties of the system such as the ground state, surface energy, charge and spin excitations. The t−W scheme is universal and can be applied to the systems either with or without U(1) symmetry.

It is shown that there exists exact wave function of Bethe-ansatz form in the case that a single particle tunnels outside of the well. Abstract:The recently proposed exact quantum solution for two $\delta$-function-interacting particles with a mass-ratio $3\!:\!1$ in a hard-wall box [Y. Liu, F. Qi, Y. Zhang and S. Chen, iScience 22, 181 (2019)] violates the conventional necessary condition for a Bethe Ansatz integrability, the condition being that the system must be reducible to a superposition of semi-transparent mirrors that is invariant under all the reflections it generates. In this article, we found a way to relax this condition: some of the semi-transparent mirrors of a known self-invariant mirror superposition can be replaced by the perfectly reflecting ones, thus breaking the self-invariance. The proposed name for the method is \emph{Asymmetric Bethe Ansatz} (Asymmetric BA). As a worked example, we study in detail the bound states of the nominally non-integrable system comprised of a bosonic dimer in a $\delta$-well. Finally, we show that the exact solution of the Liu-Qi-Zhang-Chen problem is a particular instance of the the Asymmetric BA.

Abstract:Strongly correlated electron systems are generally described by tight-binding lattice Hamiltonians with strong local (onsite) interactions, the most popular being the Hubbard model. Although the half-filled Hubbard model can be simulated by Monte Carlo (MC), physically more interesting cases beyond half-filling are plagued by the sign problem. One therefore should resort to other methods. It was demonstrated recently that a systematic truncation of the set of Dyson-Schwinger equations for correlators of the Hubbard, supplemented by a "covariant" calculation of correlators leads to a convergent series of approximants. The covariance preserves all the Ward identities among correlators describing various condensed matter probes. While first-order (classical), second-order (Hartree-Fock or Gaussian), and third-order (Cubic) covariant approximation were worked out, the fourth-order (quartic) seems too complicated to be effectively calculable in fermionic systems. It turns out that the complexity of the quartic calculation in local interaction models,is manageable computationally. The quartic (Bethe-Salpeter-type) approximation is especially important in 1D and 2D models in which the symmetry-broken state does not exists (the Mermin-Wagner theorem), although strong fluctuations dominate the physics at strong coupling. Unlike the lower-order approximations, it respects the Mermin-Wagner theorem. The scheme is tested and exemplified on the single-band 1D and 2D Hubbard model.

Abstract:We use thermodynamic Bethe ansatz to study nonrelativistic scattering theory of low energy excitations of 1D Hubbard model, using the $S$-matrices proposed by Eßler and Korepin. This model can be described by two types of excitation states, holons and spinons, as asymptotic states. In the attractive regime, the spinon is massive while the holon is massless. The situation is reversed with a repulsive coupling. We derive that the central charge of the Hubbard model in the IR limit is $c=1$ while it vanishes in the UV limit. The contribution is due to the massless degree of freedom, i.e. the holon for the attractive regime, and the massive mode decouples completely. This result is consistent with various known results based on lattice Bethe ansatz computations. Our results make it possible to use the $S$-matrices of the excitations to compute more interesting quantities like correlation functions.

Abstract:We study the spectrum of the integrable open XXX Heisenberg spin chain subject to non-diagonal boundary magnetic fields. The spectral problem for this model can be formulated in terms of functional equations obtained by separation of variables or, equivalently, from the fusion of transfer matrices. For generic boundary conditions the eigenvalues cannot be obtained from the solution of finitely many algebraic Bethe equations. Based on careful finite size studies of the analytic properties of the underlying hierarchy of transfer matrices we devise two approaches to analyze the functional equations. First we introduce a truncation method leading to Bethe type equations determining the energy spectrum of the spin chain. In a second approach the hierarchy of functional equations is mapped to an infinite system of non-linear integral equations of TBA type. The two schemes have complementary ranges of applicability and facilitate an efficient numerical analysis for a wide range of boundary parameters. Some data are presented on the finite size corrections to the energy of the state which evolves into the antiferromagnetic ground state in the limit of parallel boundary fields.

Beyond the instanton gas approach: dominant thimbles approximation for the Hubbard model

Abstract:To each complex saddle point of an action, one can attach a Lefschetz thimble on which the imaginary part of the action is constant. Cauchy theorem states that summation over a set of thimbles produces the exact result. This reorganization of the path integral, is an appealing starting point for various approximations: In the realm of auxiliary quantum Monte Carlo methods it provides a framework to alleviate the negative sign problem. Here, we suggest to constrain the integration to the \textit{dominant} thimbles: the thimbles attached to the saddle points with the largest statistical weight. For the Hubbard model, in a formulation where the the Hubbard Stratonovitch field couples to the charge, this provides a \textit{symmetry} consistent approximation to the physics of the Hubbard model: constraining the integration domain does not explicitly break a symmetry. We can test this approach for the Hubbard model at half-filling on a bipartite lattice. The paper builds on the previously developed instanton gas approach, where an exhaustive saddle point approximation was constructed. We present results, showing that the dominant thimbles approximation provides results that are in remarkable agreement with the exact results for various fermionic observables including spin and charge order parameters and single electron spectral functions. We discuss implications of our results for simulations away of half filling.

Bosonization Based on Bethe Ansatz Equations and Spin-Charge Separation in the Hubbard Model with Finite U

Abstract:We develop a bosonization approach for one-dimensional models based on Bethe ansatz equations. The operator formalism of the exact soluble models in the low energy limit provides a systematic method to calculate the asymptotic correlation functions. As examples with and without internal degrees of freedom, the Calogero-Sutherland (C-S) model and the repulsive Hubbard model are considered respectively. We verify that the low energy behavior of the C-S model is controlled by two classes of c=1 conformal field theories, depending on whether the C-S interactions are among bosons or among fermions. For the Hubbard model, we show the explicit charge-spin separation at low energy for arbitrary U>0. The low energy behavior of the system is described by the (semi-) direct product of two independent Virasoro algebras with c=1.
Exact functional integration of radial and complex slave-boson fields: thermodynamics and dynamics of the two-site extended Hubbard model

Abstract:The functional integral formulation of the Hubbard model when treated in its Kotliar-Ruckenstein representation in the radial gauge involves fermionic, as well as complex and radial slave boson fields. In order to improve on the understanding of the interplay of the three types of fields, and on the nature of the latter, we perform a comprehensive investigation of an exactly solvable two-site cluster, as it entails all pitfalls embodied in this approach. It is first shown that the exact partition function is recovered, even when incorporating in the calculation the square root factors that are at the heart of the representation, when suitably regularized. We show that using radial slave boson fields allows to overcome all hurdles following from the normal ordering procedure. We then demonstrate that this applies to the Green's function as well, and to the correlation functions of physical interest, thereby answering the criticisms raised by Schönhammer [K. Schönhammer, Phys. Rev. B 1990, 42, 2591]. In addition, the investigation generalizes the calculations to the Hubbard model extended by a non-local Coulomb interaction.

Functional Integral Approach to the Single Impurity Anderson Model

Abstract:Recently, a functional integral representation was proposed by Weller (Weller, W.: phys.~stat.~sol.~(b) {\bf 162}, 251 (1990)), in which the fermionic fields strictly satisfy the constraint of no double occupancy at each lattice site. This is achieved by introducing spin dependent Bose fields. The functional integral method is applied to the single impurity Anderson model both in the Kondo and mixed-valence regime. The f-electron Green's function and susceptibility are calculated using an Ising-like representation for the Bose fields. We discuss the difficulty to extract a spectral function from the knowledge of the imaginary time Green's function. The results are compared with NCA calculations.

An Explicit Wavefunction of the Interacting Non-Hermitian Spin-1/2 1D System

Abstract:We present an explicit Bethe-ansatz wavefunction to a 1D spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ interacting fermion system, manifesting a many-body resonance resulting from the interplay between interaction and non-Hermitian spin-orbit coupling. In the dilute limit, the wavefunction is greatly simplified and then factorized into Slater determinants and a Jastrow factor. An effective thermodynamic distribution is constructed with an effective Hamiltonian including a repulsion resulting from Pauli's exclusion principle and a distinctive zigzag potential arising from the resonance. The competition between these effects leads to a transition from a uniformly distributed configuration to a phase separation. The connection to the recent cold atom experimental efforts of realizing on-site atom-loss is discussed.

Abstract:In this study, we explore the precise physical quantities in the thermodynamic limit of the one-dimensional Hubbard model with nonparallel boundary magnetic fields based on the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz solution. A particular emphasis is placed on the half-filling condition to investigate the distinct patterns of Bethe roots in the reduced Bethe ansatz equations for different boundary parameters. The ground state of the system can be divided into five regions according to the distribution of Bethe roots. By analyzing these patterns, we calculate the densities of states, ground-state energy density, and surface energy. The results reveal the existence of stableboundary bound states, which are dependent on specific constraints regarding the boundary magnetic fields.

Bethe ansatz solutions and hidden $sl(2)$ algebraic structure for a class of quasi-exactly solvable systems

Abstract:The construction of analytic solutions for quasi-exactly solvable systems is an interesting problem. We revisit a class of models for which the odd solutions were largely missed previously in the literature: the anharmonic oscillator, the singular anharmonic oscillator, the generalized quantum isotonic oscillator, non-polynomially deformed oscillator, and the Schrödinger system from the kink stability analysis of $\phi^6$-type field theory. We present a systematic and unified treatment for the odd and even sectors of these models. We find generic closed-form expressions for constraints to the allowed model parameters for quasi-exact solvability, the corresponding energies and wavefunctions. We also make progress in the analysis of solutions to the Bethe ansatz equations in the spaces of model parameters and provide insight into the curves/surfaces of the allowed parameters in the parameter spaces. Most previous analyses in this aspect were on a case-by-case basis and restricted to the first excited states. We present analysis of the solutions (i.e. roots) of the Bethe ansatz equations for higher excited states (up to levels $n$=30 or 50). The shapes of the root distributions change drastically across different regions of model parameters, illustrating phenomena analogous to phase transition in context of integrable models. Furthermore, we also obtain the $sl(2)$ algebraization for the class of models in their respective even and odd sectors in a unified way.

The Bethe Ansatz as a Quantum Circuit

Abstract:The Bethe ansatz represents an analytical method enabling the exact solution of numerous models in condensed matter physics and statistical mechanics. When a global symmetry is present, the trial wavefunctions of the Bethe ansatz consist of plane wave superpositions. Previously, it has been shown that the Bethe ansatz can be recast as a deterministic quantum circuit. An analytical derivation of the quantum gates that form the circuit was lacking however. Here we present a comprehensive study of the transformation that brings the Bethe ansatz into a quantum circuit, which leads us to determine the analytical expression of the circuit gates. As a crucial step of the derivation, we present a simple set of diagrammatic rules that define a novel Matrix Product State network building Bethe wavefunctions. Remarkably, this provides a new perspective on the equivalence between the coordinate and algebraic versions of the Bethe ansatz.

Charge density wave solutions of the Hubbard model in the composite operator formalism

Abstract:We investigate the charge density wave phase in the strongly correlated Hubbard model without any other broken symmetry phase. Starting from the atomic Hamiltonian with no hopping, we generate quasiparticle operators corresponding to holons and doublons in the strongly correlated limit of the repulsive Hubbard model. We develop a real space composite operator formalism using the equation of motion technique to include the intersite hopping perturbatively. Our fully self-consistent calculation stabilizes multiple unidirectional translation symmetry broken states within the doping range $\delta=0.07$ to $0.2$. The charge-ordered states become increasingly unfavorable with hole-doping. The unidirectional density waves manifest as periodic modulations of half-filled Mott regions separated by hole-rich regions. Notably, density wave solutions with periods of $3$ to $8$ lattice spacing remain energetically higher than those with larger periods. Quenched disorder on the charge-ordered states induces the merging of the Mott regions and, consequently, forms short-ranged charge modulations. The density of states shows signatures of strongly correlated Mott regions, potentially relevant to the physics of underdoped cuprates.

Abstract:A technique for the fabrication of light-activated maxillary record bases is described. The use of a segmental polymerization process provides improved palatal adaptation by minimizing the effects of polymerization shrinkage. Utilization of this technique results in record bases that are well adapted to the corresponding master casts.
