Abstract:The cross section for process e(+)e(-)->mu(+)mu(-)gamma in the framework of noncommutative quantum electrodynamics (NC QED) is studied. It is shown that the NC correction of scattering sections is not monotonous enhancement with total energy of colliding electrons, but there is an optimal collision energy to get the greatest NC correction. Moreover, there is a linear relation between NC QED scale energy and the optimal collision energy. The experimental methods to improve the precision of determining NC effects are discussed, because this process is an O(alpha(3)) NC QED process, high precision tests are necessary.

Abstract:We review the current status and present open challenges of large $N_c$ QCD baryon spectroscopy. After introducing the $1/N_c$ expansion method we first shortly revisit the latest achievements for the ground state properties. Next we discuss the applicability of this method to excited states, presenting two different approaches with their advantages and disadvantages. Selected results for the spectrum and strong and electromagnetic decays are described. We also show further developments supported by the qualitative compatibility between the quark excitation picture and the meson-nucleon scattering picture. We give a quantitative comparison between results obtained from the mass formula of the $1/N_c$ expansion method and quark models and shortly discuss the implications of different large $N_c$ limits.

Abstract:We present first calculations of QCD matrix-elements in perturbation theory at finite Nc beyond 2 loops in the eikonal approximation for e+ e- annihilation processes. For the emission of n soft energy-ordered gluons we solve both the colour and kinematic structures at a given order in perturbation theory by means of a Mathematica program that relies solely on a recently developed Mathematica code, ColorMath, that evaluates the trace of products of colour matrices. At large Nc, our squared amplitudes reduce to those already known in the literature.

Abstract:<p>Over the last decade, numerical solutions of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) using the technique of lattice QCD have developed to a point where they are beginning to connect fundamental aspects of nuclear physics to the underlying degrees of freedom of the Standard Model. In this review, the progress of lattice QCD studies of nuclear matrix elements of electroweak currents and beyond-Standard–Model operators is summarized, and connections with effective field theories and nuclear models are outlined.</p><p>Lattice QCD calculations of nuclear matrix elements can provide guidance for low-energy nuclear reactions in astrophysics, dark matter direct detection experiments, and experimental searches for violations of the symmetries of the Standard Model, including searches for additional CP violation in the hadronic and leptonic sectors, baryon-number violation, and lepton-number or flavor violation. Similarly, important inputs to neutrino experiments seeking to determine the neutrino-mass hierarchy and oscillation parameters, as well as other electroweak and beyond-Standard–Model processes can be determined. The phenomenological implications of existing studies of electroweak and beyond-Standard–Model matrix elements in light nuclear systems are discussed, and future prospects for the field toward precision studies of these matrix elements are outlined.</p>
QCD Running in Lepton Number Violating Meson and Tau Decays

Abstract:Below the electroweak scale, new physics that violates lepton number in two units ($\Delta L = 2$) and is mediated by heavy particle exchange can be parameterized by a dimension-9 low-energy effective Lagrangian. Operators in this Lagrangian involving first-generation quarks and leptons contribute to the short-range mechanism of neutrinoless double beta decay ($0\nu\beta\beta$) and therefore they are strongly constrained. On the other hand, operators with other quark and lepton families are bounded by the non-observation of different lepton number violating (LNV) meson and tau decays, such as $M_1^- \to M_2^+\ell_1^-\ell_2^-$ and $\tau^- \to \ell^+ M_1^- M_2^-$. In this work, we calculate RGE-improved bounds on the Wilson coefficients involved in these decays. We calculate QCD corrections to the dimension-9 operator basis and find RG evolution matrices that describe the evolution of the Wilson coefficients across different energy scales. Unlike the running of operators involved in $0\nu\beta\beta$-decay, the general flavor structure leads to the mixing of not only different Lorentz structures but also of different quark-flavor configurations. Additionally, operators that vanish for the identical lepton case need to be added to the operator basis. We find new constraints on previously unbounded operators and the enhancement of bounds for specific Wilson coefficients. We also find new bounds coming from the mixing between operators with different quark-flavor configurations.

Introductory visual lecture on QCD at large-$N_{c}$: bound states, chiral models, and phase diagram

Abstract:In these lectures, we present the behavior of conventional $\bar{q}q$ mesons, glueballs, and hybrids in the large-$N_{c}$ limit of QCD. To this end, we use an approach based on rather simple NJL-like bound-state equations. The obtained large-$N_{c}$ scaling laws are general and coincide with the known results. A series of consequences, such as the narrowness of certain mesons and the smallness of some interaction types, the behavior of chiral and dilaton models at large-$N_{c},$ and the relation to the compositeness condition and the standard derivation of large-$N_{c}$ results, are explained. The bound-state formalism shows also that mesonic molecular and dynamically generated states do not form in the large-$N_{c}$ limit. The same fate seems to apply also for tetraquark states, but here further studies are needed. Next, following the same approach, baryons are studied as bound states of a generalized diquark ($N_{c}-1$ antisymmetric object) and a quark. Similarities and differences with regular mesons are discussed. All the standard scaling laws for baryons and their interaction with mesons are correctly reproduced. The behavior of chiral models involving baryons and describing chirally invariant mass generation is investigated. Finally, properties of QCD in the medium at large-$N_{c}$ are studied: the deconfinement phase transition is investigated along the temperature and the chemical potential directions, respectively. Within the QCD phase diagrams, the features of different models at large-$N_{c}$ are reviewed and the location of the critical endpoint is discussed. In the end, the very existence of nuclei and the implications of large-$N_{c}$ arguments for neutron stars are outlined.

Long-Distance Nuclear Matrix Elements for Neutrinoless Double-Beta Decay from Lattice QCD

Abstract:Neutrinoless double-beta ($0\nu\beta\beta$) decay is a heretofore unobserved process which, if observed, would imply that neutrinos are Majorana particles. Interpretations of the stringent experimental constraints on $0\nu\beta\beta$-decay half-lives require calculations of nuclear matrix elements. This work presents the first lattice quantum-chromodynamics (LQCD) calculation of the matrix element for $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay in a multi-nucleon system, specifically the $nn \rightarrow pp ee$ transition, mediated by a light left-handed Majorana neutrino propagating over nuclear-scale distances. This calculation is performed with quark masses corresponding to a pion mass of $m_\pi = 806$ MeV at a single lattice spacing and volume. The statistically cleaner $\Sigma^- \rightarrow \Sigma^+ ee$ transition is also computed in order to investigate various systematic uncertainties. The prospects for matching the results of LQCD calculations onto a nuclear effective field theory to determine a leading-order low-energy constant relevant for $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay with a light Majorana neutrino are investigated. This work, therefore, sets the stage for future calculations at physical values of the quark masses that, combined with effective field theory and nuclear many-body studies, will provide controlled theoretical inputs to experimental searches of $0\nu\beta\beta$ decay.

Abstract:A bstract The scaling dimensions of charged operators in conformal field theory have recently been predicted to exhibit universal behavior in the large charge limit. We verify this behavior in the 2+1 dimensional C P N − 1 model. Specifically, we numerically compute the scaling dimensions of the lowest dimension monopole operators with charges Q = 1 , 2 , · · · , 100 to subleading order in large N . The coefficients of the large Q expansion are extracted through a fit, and the predicted universal $ \mathcal{O}\left({Q}^0\right) $ contribution is verified to the subpercent level.

Abstract:I present results for the resummation of soft-gluon contributions to QCD hard-scattering cross sections at next-to-next-to-leading logarithm accuracy. A key ingredient is the calculation of two-loop soft anomalous dimensions for the partonic processes. Explicit expressions and applications are provided for processes that involve massless partons and/or massive quarks.

Structure-dependent electromagnetic finite-volume effects through order $1/L^3$

Abstract:We consider electromagnetic finite-volume effects through order $1/L^3$ in different formulations of QED, where $L$ is the periodicity of the spatial volume. An inherent problem at this order is the appearance of structure-dependent quantities related to form factors and the analytical structure of the correlation functions. The non-local constraint of the widely used QED$_{\textrm{L}}$ regularization gives rise to structure-dependent effects that are difficult to evaluate analytically and can act as a precision bottleneck in lattice calculations. For this reason, we consider general volume expansions relevant for the mass spectrum as well as leptonic decay rates in QED$_{\textrm{C}}$, QED$_{\textrm{L}}$ and QED$_{\textrm{L}}^{\textrm{IR}}$, the latter being a class of non-local formulations generalising QED$_{\textrm{L}}$. One choice within this class is QED$_{\textrm{r}}$, first introduced at this conference, and we show that the effects of non-locality for the $1/L^3$ term in the expansion can be removed. We observe that there are still $1/L^3$ contributions unrelated to the (non-)locality of the studied QED formulations, but rather to collinear singularities in the physical amplitudes.

QED at NNLO and beyond for precision experiments

Abstract:Low-energy experiments allow for some of the most precise measurements in particle physics, such as $g-2$. To make the most of these experiments, theory needs to match the experimental precision. Over the last decade, this meant that even in QED next-to-next-to-leading order calculations (or even more in some cases) became necessary. McMule (Monte Carlo for MUons and other LEptons) is a framework that we have developed to obtain NNLO predictions for a number of processes, such as $e\mu \to e\mu$, $ee\to ee$, and $\mu\to e\nu\bar\nu$. I will discuss some of the challenges faced when dealing with QED corrections and some possible solutions we have implemented in McMule, namely the subtraction scheme FKS$^\ell$, massification, and next-to-soft stabilisation. I will also demonstrate how to calculate the three-loop massification constant that will be required at N$^3$LO.

Recent results in chiral effective field theory for the NN system

Abstract:I describe recent progress towards a theory of the NN force which captures the consequences of QCD's chiral symmetry and the pattern of its breaking, and is formulated as an expansion in a ratio of low and high mass scales, M_{lo}/M_{hi}. This "chiral effective field theory" of the NN system is a firm foundation for explorations of nuclear structure and reactions that are grounded in QCD's low-energy symmetries. While calculations that use a ChiPT expansion for the NN potential have proven very successful, they can only be used with a narrow range of momentum-space cutoffs, which leaves the expansion parameter for observable quantities somewhat murky. Here we seek a truly systematic effective field theory for the NN amplitude, that is manifestly renormalization-group invariant at each order in a demonstrably perturbative expansion.

Progress in meson-meson scattering at large $N_\text{c}$

Abstract:We study the large $N_\text{c}$ scaling of meson-meson scattering amplitudes in a theory with $N_\text{f}=4$ degenerate quark flavors. We focus on two different scattering channels, one having the same quantum numbers as some recently found tetraquark states at LHCb. Using Lüscher's formalism, we study the $N_\text{c}$ dependence of the scattering phase shift and investigate the presence of exotic resonances in the scattering amplitude. We analyze the impact of including two-vector-meson and tetraquark-like operators to extract the finite-volume energies.

Abstract:Bardeen-Buras-Gérard have proposed a large N$_c$ method to evaluate hadronic weak matrix elements to attack for instance the determination of the $\Delta I= \frac{1}{2}$-rule and $\mathrm{Re}(\frac{\epsilon'}{\epsilon})$. Here we test this method to the determination of the form factor parameters $a_+$ and $b_+$ in the decays $K^+ \rightarrow \pi^+ \ell^+ \ell^- $ and $K_S \rightarrow \pi ^0 \ell^+ \ell^-$. The results are encouraging: in particular after a complete treatment of Vector Meson Dominance (VMD).

Electromagnetic Form Factors of Hadrons in Quantum Field Theories

Abstract:In this talk, recent results are presented of calculations of electromagnetic form factors of hadrons in the framework of two quantum field theories (QFT), (a) Dual-Large $N_c$ QCD (Dual-$QCD_\infty$) for the pion, proton, and $\Delta(1236)$, and (b) the Kroll-Lee-Zumino (KLZ) fully renormalizable Abelian QFT for the pion form factor. Both theories provide a QFT platform to improve on naive (tree-level) Vector Meson Dominance (VMD). Dual-$QCD_\infty$ provides a tree-level improvement by incorporating an infinite number of zero-width resonances, which can be subsequently shifted from the real axis to account for the time-like behaviour of the form factors. The renormalizable KLZ model provides a QFT improvement of VMD in the framework of perturbation theory. Due to the relative mildness of the $\rho\pi\pi$ coupling, and the size of loop suppression factors, the perturbative expansion is well defined in spite of this being a strong coupling theory. Both approaches lead to considerable improvements of VMD predictions for electromagnetic form factors, in excellent agreement with data.

Abstract:High-precision nucleon-resonance electroproduction data on a large kinematic domain of energy and momentum transfer have proven crucial in revealing novel features of strong interactions within the Standard Model and unfolding structural details of baryon excited states. Thus, in anticipation of new data reaching to unprecedented photon virtuality, we employ a quark-diquark approximation to the three-valence-quark bound-state problem to compute gamma* p -> R+ and gamma*n -> R+ and gamma*n -> R-0 transition form factors on Q(2)/m(N)(2) epsilon [0, 12], where m(N) is the nucleon mass. Having simultaneously analyzed both charged and neutral channels, we also provide a quark-flavor separation of the transition form factors. The results should be useful in planning new-generation experiments.

Abstract:We study the Heisenberg-Euler effective action in constant electromagnetic fields for QED with N charged particle flavors of the same mass and charge e in the large N limit characterized by sending N → ∞ while keeping Ne 2 ∼ ∼ N 0 fixed. This immediately implies that contributions that scale with inverse powers of N can be neglected and the resulting effective action scales linearly with N . Interestingly, due to the presence of one-particle reducible diagrams, even in this limit the Heisenberg-Euler effective action receives contributions of arbitrary loop order. In particular for the special cases of electric- and magnetic-like field configurations we construct an explicit expression for the associated effective Lagrangian that, upon extremization for two constant scalar coefficients, allows to evaluate its full, all-order result at arbitrarily large field strengths. We demonstrate that our manifestly nonperturbative expression correctly reproduces the known results for the Heisenberg-Euler effective action at large N , namely its all-loop strong field limit and its low-order perturbative expansion in powers of the fine-structure constant.
