Abstract:Applying a microscopically motivated semiclassical Langevin description of the linear sigma model we investigate for various different scenarios the stochastic evolution of a disoriented chiral condensate (DCC) in a rapidly expanding system. Some particular emphasis is put on the numerical realization of colored noise in order to treat the underlying dissipative and non-Markovian stochastic equations of motion. A comparison with an approximate Markovian (i.e., instantaneous) treatment of dissipation and noise will be made in order to identify the possible influence of memory effects in the evolution of the chiral order parameter. Assuming a standard Rayleigh cooling term to simulate a D-dimensional scaling expansion we present the probability distribution in the low momentum pion number stemming from the relaxing zero mode component of the chiral field. The best DCC signal is expected for initial conditions centered around [sigma] approximate to 0 as would be the case of effective light ''pions" close to the phase transition. By choosing appropriate idealized global parameters for the expansion our findings show that an experimentally feasible DCC, if it does exist in nature, has to be a rare event with some finite probability following a nontrivial and non-Poissonian distribution on an event by event basis. DCCs might then be identified experimentally by inspecting higher order factorial cumulants theta(m) (m greater than or equal to 3) in the sampled distribution.

Abstract:The vast bulk of visible mass emerges from nonperturbative dynamics within quantum chromodynamics (QCD) -- the strong interaction sector of the Standard Model. The past decade has revealed the three pillars that support this emergent hadron mass (EHM); namely, a nonzero gluon mass-scale, a process-independent effective charge, and dressed-quarks with constituent-like masses. Theory is now working to expose their manifold and diverse expressions in hadron observables and highlighting the types of measurements that can be made in order to validate the paradigm. In sketching some of these developments, this discussion stresses the role of EHM in forming nucleon electroweak structure and the wave functions of excited baryons through the generation of dynamical diquark correlations; producing and constraining the dilation of the leading-twist pion distribution amplitude; shaping pion and nucleon parton distribution functions -- valence, glue and sea, including the antisymmetry of antimatter; and moulding pion and proton charge and mass distributions.

Calculating Fluctuations and Self-Correlations Numerically for Causal Charge Diffusion in Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions

Abstract:We study the propagation and diffusion of electric charge fluctuations in the Bjorken hydrodynamic model with both white and Catteneo noise using purely numerical methods. We show that a global lattice of noise fluctuations is required to fully calculate the two-point correlators of charge. We solve the stochastic differential equations that arise from the charge conservation equation on the lattice. We explicitly identify the self-correlation term in the case of Catteneo noise and provide a physical interpretation. We provide a numerical recipe to remove this contribution from the full two-point correlators. Finally, we calculate the balance functions for charged hadrons. By limiting the speed of signal propagation, we observe the expected narrowing of the balance functions after removing the self-correlations.

Abstract:We study the pair production, string breaking, and hadronization of a receding electron-positron pair using the bosonized version of the massive Schwinger model in quantum electrodynamics in 1+1 space-time dimensions. Specifically, we study the dynamics of the electric field in Bjorken coordinates by splitting it into a coherent field and its Gaussian fluctuations. We find that the electric field shows damped oscillations, reflecting pair production. Interestingly, the computation of the asymptotic total particle density per rapidity interval for large masses can be fitted using a Boltzmann factor, where the temperature can be related to the hadronization temperature in QCD. Lastly, we discuss the possibility of an analog quantum simulation of the massive Schwinger model using ultracold atoms, explicitly matching the potential of the Schwinger model to the effective potential for the relative phase of two linearly coupled Bose-Einstein condensates. https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.110.045017 Published by the American Physical Society under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Formation, dissociation and regeneration of charmonia within microscopic Langevin simulations

Abstract:We present a microscopic and dynamical model to study the formation, as well as dissociation and recombination processes of charmonium states in a heat bath at constant temperature and volume. Within this classical approach, the heavy quarks are described as Brownian particles in a background medium of light constituents and can therefore be described in terms of a Fokker-Planck equation with constant transport coefficients, which is then materialized through with relativistic Langevin simulations. The heavy quarks interact classically over a Coulomb-like screened potential to form a bound state if the relative energy of the pair becomes negative. Dissociation of bound states are possible as a result of screening effects of the potential as well as through scatterings with plasma particles. We demonstrate the full equilibration of the system and show that, for tuning the coupling constant, the obtained equilibrium charmonium yields are in accordance with the Statistical Hadronization Model.

Abstract:At the Large Hadron Collider it is possible to generate BSQ (baryon, strangeness, and electric) charge density fluctuations from gluon splittings into quark/anti-quark pairs, generated within the ICCING model. In this work, we implement BSQ charge dynamics in a fully integrated framework. We propagate these conserved charges within an upgraded version of the v-USPhydro hydrodynamic model, which conserves the BSQ densities exactly. Our hydrodynamic simulation uses the full 4D equation of state $\left\{T,\mu_B,\mu_S,\mu_Q\right\}$ from lattice Quantum Chromodynamics and includes decays from the Particle Data Group 2016+. We study the dynamical trajectories of fluid cells passing through the QCD phase diagram. We discuss future applications for this new framework.

Abstract:A simple effective model for the intermediate-density regime is constructed from the high-density effective theory of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In the effective model, under a renormalization-group (RG) scaling towards low momenta, the original QCD interactions lead to four-quark contact interactions for the relevant quark and hole modes around the Fermi surface. The contact interaction in the scalar channel can be traced back to zero-sound-type collinear quark scattering near the Fermi surface in an instanton background. The quark and hole states in opposite directions of a given Fermi velocity form the collective scalar bosonic mode $\sigma$. The magnitude of $\sigma$ is investigated via the non-perturbative Functional Renormalization Group (FRG) evolution of the effective average action from the ultraviolet (UV) to the infrared (IR). In the mean background-field approximation for $\sigma$, nontrivial minima ($\bar{\sigma} \neq 0$) are found in the IR limit of the effective average action. A nonvanishing $\bar{\sigma}$ corresponds to condensation of quark and hole states in opposite directions of a given Fermi velocity, in a thin shell-like structure in momentum space around the Fermi surface. This looks similar to the shell-like baryon distribution in momentum space assumed in the quarkyonic-matter concept. However, when including a dynamic bosonic $\sigma$-mode in the RG flow, we find that its diffusive nature destroys the quark-hole condensate, i.e., the IR potential does not show any minima beyond the trivial one.

Lattice QED in an external magnetic field: Evidence for dynamical chiral symmetry breaking

Abstract:We simulate quantum electrodynamics (QED) in a strong constant homogeneous external magnetic field on a Euclidean space-time lattice using the rational hybrid Monte Carlo method, developed for simulating lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Our primary goal is to measure the chiral condensate in the limit when the input electron mass m is zero. We observe a nonzero value, indicating that the external magnetic field catalyzes chiral symmetry breaking as predicted by approximate truncated Schwinger-Dyson methods. Such behavior is associated with dominance by the lowest Landau level which causes the effective dimensional reduction from 3+1 dimensions to 1+1 dimensions for charged particles (electrons and positrons) where the attractive forces of QED can produce chiral symmetry breaking with a dynamical electron mass and associated chiral condensate. Asymptotic Dynamics in Scalar Field Theory: Anomalous Relaxation

Abstract:We analyze the dynamics of dissipation and relaxation in the unbroken and broken symmetry phases of scalar theory in the nonlinear regime for large initial energy densities, and after linear unstabilities (parametric or spinodal) are shut-off by the quantum backreaction. A new time scale emerges that separates the linear from the non-linear regimes. This scale is non- perturbative in the coupling and initial amplitude. The non-perturbative evolution is studied in the large the N limit for the O(N) vector model. A combination of numerical analysis and the multitime scale analysis reveals the presence of unstable bands in the nonlinear regime. These are associated with power law growth of quantum fluctuations, that result in power law relaxation and dissipation with non-universal and non-perturbative dynamical anomalous <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://exponents.We" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> find substantial particle production during this non-linear evolu- tion which is of the same order as that in the linear regime. The expectation value of the scalar field vanishes asymptotically transferring all of the initial energy into produced particles via the non-linear resonances in the unbroken symmetry <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://phase.The" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> effective mass for the quantum modes tends asympto- tically to a constant plus oscillating O(1/t) terms. This slow decay causes the power behaviour in the modes which become free for t=infty. We derive a simple expression for the equation of state for the fluid of produced particles that interpolates between radiation-type and dust-type equations according to the initial value of the order parameter for unbroken symmetry. For broken symmetry the produced particles are massless Goldstone bosons with a radiation-type equation of state. We find the onset of a novel form of dynamical Bose condensation in the collisionless regime in the absence of thermalization.

Bjorken variable and scale dependence of quark transport coefficient in semi-inclusive lepton-production of hadron off nuclei

Abstract:Nuclear modification of hadron production in deep inelastic lepton-nucleus scattering can be applied to study the parton propagation mechanism in cold nuclear matter. By means of the analytic parameterization of quenching weight based on BDMPS formalism with the target nuclear geometry effect, the leading-order computations for hadron multiplicity ratios are performed with comparison to the HERMES charged pions production data on the quarks hadronization occurring outside the nucleus. The relation is discovered between quark transport coefficient and the measurable kinematic variables in deep inelastic scattering. Four models are proposed on the quark transport coefficient. The constant model, the power-law model and the double power-law model can be ruled out because of the experimental fact that the transverse momentum broadening increases as a function of the photon virtuality $Q^2$. The quark transport coefficient is determined as a function of the Bjorken variable $x$ and scale $Q^2$. The trend of quark transport coefficient in respect of Bjorken variable $x$ and scale $Q^2$ is qualitatively in partial agreement with HERMES experimental data on transverse momentum broadening. It is hoped that our effort is conducive to understanding of jet quenching phenomenon in relativistic heavy ion collisions.

Dynamical formation of correlations in a Bose-Einstein condensate

Abstract:We consider the evolution of $N$ bosons interacting with a repulsive short range pair potential in three dimensions. The potential is scaled according to the Gross-Pitaevskii scaling, i.e. it is given by $N^2V(N(x_i-x_j))$. We monitor the behavior of the solution to the $N$-particle Schrödinger equation in a spatial window where two particles are close to each other. We prove that within this window a short scale interparticle structure emerges dynamically. The local correlation between the particles is given by the two-body zero energy scattering mode. This is the characteristic structure that was expected to form within a very short initial time layer and to persist for all later times, on the basis of the validity of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation for the evolution of the Bose-Einstein condensate. The zero energy scattering mode emerges after an initial time layer where all higher energy modes disperse out of the spatial window. We can prove the persistence of this structure up to sufficiently small times before three-particle correlations could develop.

Abstract:We present a detailed study of the finite momentum dynamics of the O(4) critical point of QCD, which lies in the dynamic universality class of "model G." The critical scaling of the model is analyzed in multiple dynamical channels. For instance, the finite momentum analysis allows us to precisely extract the pion dispersion curve below the critical point. The pion velocity is in striking agreement with the predictions relation and static universality. The pion damping rate and velocity are both consistent with the dynamical critical exponent ζ=3/2 of model G. Similarly, although the critical amplitude for the diffusion coefficient of the conserved O(4) charges is small, it is clearly visible both in the restored phase and with finite explicit symmetry breaking, and its dynamical scaling is again consistent with ζ=3/2 . We determine a new set of universal dynamical critical amplitude ratios relating the diffusion coefficient to a suitably defined order parameter relaxation time. We also show that in a finite volume simulation, the chiral condensate diffuses on the coset manifold in a manner consistent with dynamical scaling, and with a diffusion coefficient that is determined by the transport coefficients of hydrodynamic pions. Spinodal Instability at the Onset of Collective Expansion in Nuclear Collisions

Abstract:Using transport theory to model central Au + Au collisions in the energy region of 20 - 110 MeV/u, at impact parameters b <= 5 fm, we predict a measurable impact of spinoidal instability as the collective expansion sets in with energy. Two transport models are employed, the pBUU model, solving a Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation, and the Brownian Motion (BM) model, solving a set of Langevin equations to describe the motion of individual nucleons in a noisy nuclear medium. We find without ambiguity, for the first time, that a combination of delayed equilibration, onset of collective expansion and the spinodal instability produces a pair of transient ring structures, made of the projectile and target remnants, with spectator nucleons predicted to end in the entities reminiscent of stones in jewelry, on the rings. The ring structures, calculated in the configuration space and mapped onto the velocity space, could be detected in experimental collective flow data.

Azimuthal anisotropies in p+Pb collisions from classical Yang-Mills dynamics

Abstract:We compute single and double inclusive gluon distributions in classical Yang-Mills simulations of proton-lead collisions and extract the associated transverse momentum dependent Fourier harmonics $v_2(p_T)$ and $v_3(p_T)$. Gluons have a large $v_2$ in the initial state, while odd harmonics such as $v_3$ vanish identically at the initial time $\tau=0^{+}$. By the time $\tau \lesssim 0.4\,{\rm fm/c}$ final state effects in the classical Yang-Mills evolution generate a non-zero $v_{3}$ and only mildly modify the gluon $v_{2}$. Unlike hydrodynamic flow, these momentum space anisotropies are uncorrelated with the global spatial anisotropy of the collision. A principal ingredient for the generation of $v_2$ and $v_3$ in this framework is the event-by-event breaking of rotational invariance in domains the size of the inverse of the saturation scale $Q_s$. In contrast to our findings in p+Pb collisions Yang-Mills simulations of lead-lead collisions generate much smaller values of $v_{2,3} (p_T)$ and additional collective flow effects are needed to explain experimental data. This is because the locally generated anisotropy due to the breaking of rotational invariance is depleted with the increase in the number of uncorrelated domains.

Abstract:Using a ladder-rainbow kernel previously established for the soft scale of light quark hadrons, we explore, within a Dyson-Schwinger approach, phenomena that mix soft and hard scales of QCD. The difference between vector and axial vector current correlators is examined to estimate the four quark chiral condensate and the leading distance scale for the onset of non-perturbative phenomena in QCD. The valence quark distributions, in the pion and kaon, defined in deep inelastic scattering, and measured in the Drell Yan process, are investigated with the same ladder-rainbow truncation of the Dyson-Schwinger and Bethe-Salpeter equations.

Abstract:The QCD first-order phase transition at large baryon densities is expected to proceed by spinodal decomposition. This spinodal phase is likely to leave its signatures on the experimental observables measured in heavy-ion collision experiments. Identifying these signatures requires phenomenological models integrating surface effects resulting from the phase transition into the hydrodynamical description of the expanding quark gluon plasma. We write the equations of relativistic hydrodynamics with spinodal decomposition and solve it in on a background of Bjorken flow relevant for heavy-ion collisions.

Hadronisation in event generators from small to large systems

Abstract:The results of the dynamical core-corona initialisation framework in p+p and Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC energies are presented. We extract the fractions of final hadron yields originating from equilibrated and non-equilibrated matter as functions of multiplicity. We show that the contribution from non-equilibrated matter is non-negligible even in intermediate and central Pb+Pb collisions. The particle production from non-equilibrated matter behaves as a correction on $c_2\{4\}$ that is purely obtained from the equilibrated matter. The result poses a warning on Bayesian parameter estimation with conventional hydrodynamic models. The observed flow coefficients might need a reinterpretation with new dynamical models which incorporate the particle production from non-equilibrated matter.
