Abstract:We evaluate the production cross sections of X(3872) at the LHC and Tevatron at NLO in alpha(s) in NRQCD by assuming that the short-distance production proceeds dominantly through chi'(c1) component in our chi'(c1) - D-0(D) over bar*(0) mixing model for X(3872). The outcomes of the fits to the CMS p(T) distribution can well account for the recent ATLAS data in a much larger range of transverse momenta (10 GeV < p(T) < 70 GeV) and the CDF total cross section data, and are also consistent with the value of k = Z(c (c) over bar) . Br(X -> J/Psi pi(+)pi(-)) constrained by the B-meson decay data. For LHCb, the predicted X(3872) total cross section is larger than the data by a factor of 2, which is due to the problem of the fixed-order NRQCD calculation that may not be applicable for the region with small p(T) (p(T) similar to 5 GeV) and large forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4.5). In comparison, the prediction of the molecule production mechanism for X(3872) is inconsistent with both p(T) distributions and total cross sections of CMS and ATLAS, and the total cross section of CDF.
Measurement of the production cross section of prompt $Ξ^0_{\rm c}$ baryons at midrapidity in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 TeV

Abstract:The transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) differential cross section of the charm-strange baryon $\Xi^0_{\rm c}$ is measured at midrapidity ($|y|<$ 0.5) via its semileptonic decay into ${\rm e^{+}}\Xi^{-}\nu_{\rm e}$ in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The ratio of the $p_{\rm T}$-differential $\Xi^0_{\rm c}$-baryon and ${\rm D^0}$-meson production cross sections is also reported. The measurements are compared with simulations with different tunes of the PYTHIA 8 event generator, with predictions from a statistical hadronisation model (SHM) with a largely augmented set of charm-baryon states beyond the current lists of the Particle Data Group, and with models including hadronisation via quark coalescence. The $p_{\rm T}$-integrated cross section of prompt $\Xi^0_{\rm c}$-baryon production at midrapidity is also reported, which is used to calculate the baryon-to-meson ratio $\Xi^0_{\rm c}/{\rm D^0} = 0.20 \pm 0.04~{\rm (stat.)} ^{+0.08}_{-0.07}~{\rm (syst.)}$. These results provide an additional indication of a modification of the charm fragmentation from $\rm e^+e^-$ and $\rm e^{-}p$ collisions to pp collisions.

Abstract:The $p_{\rm T}$-differential cross sections of prompt charm-strange baryons $\Xi^0_{\rm c}$ and $\Xi^+_{\rm c}$ were measured at midrapidity ($|y| < 0.5$) in proton$-$proton (pp) collisions at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The $\Xi^0_{\rm c}$ baryon was reconstructed via both the semileptonic decay ($\Xi^{-}{\rm e^{+}}\nu_{\rm e}$) and the hadronic decay ($\Xi^{-}{\rm \pi^{+}}$) channels. The $\Xi^+_{\rm c}$ baryon was reconstructed via the hadronic decay ($\Xi^{-}\pi^{+}\pi^{+}$) channel. The branching-fraction ratio $\rm {\rm BR}(\Xi_c^0\rightarrow \Xi^-e^+\nu_e)/\rm {\rm BR}(\Xi_c^0\rightarrow \Xi^{-}\pi^+)=$ 1.38 $\pm$ 0.14 (stat) $\pm$ 0.22 (syst) was measured with a total uncertainty reduced by a factor of about 3 with respect to the current world average reported by the Particle Data Group. The transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) dependence of the $\Xi^0_{\rm c}$- and $\Xi^+_{\rm c}$-baryon production relative to the ${\rm D^0}$-meson and to the $\Sigma^{0,+,++}_{\rm c}$- and $\Lambda^+_{\rm c}$-baryon production are reported. The baryon-to-meson ratio increases towards low $p_{\rm T}$ up to a value of approximately 0.3. The measurements are compared with various models that take different hadronisation mechanisms into consideration. The results provide stringent constraints to these theoretical calculations and additional evidence that different processes are involved in charm hadronisation in electron$-$positron ($\rm e^+e^-$) and hadronic collisions.

Abstract:The transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) differential production cross section of the promptly-produced charm-strange baryon $\Xi_{\rm c}^{0}$ (and its charge conjugate $\overline{\Xi_{\rm c}^{0}}$) is measured at midrapidity via its hadronic decay into ${\rm \pi^{+}}\Xi^{-}$ in p$-$Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon$-$nucleon collision $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}~=~5.02$ TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The $\Xi_{\rm c}^{0}$ nuclear modification factor ($R_{\rm pPb}$), calculated from the cross sections in pp and p$-$Pb collisions, is presented and compared with the $R_{\rm pPb}$ of $\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}$ baryons. The ratios between the $p_{\rm T}$-differential production cross section of $\Xi_{\rm c}^{0}$ baryons and those of $\mathrm {D^0}$ mesons and $\Lambda_{\rm c}^{+}$ baryons are also reported and compared with results at forward and backward rapidity from the LHCb Collaboration. The measurements of the production cross section of prompt $\Xi^0_{\rm c}$ baryons are compared with a model based on perturbative QCD calculations of charm-quark production cross sections, which includes only cold nuclear matter effects in p$-$Pb collisions, and underestimates the measurement by a factor of about 50. This discrepancy is reduced when the data is compared with a model in which hadronisation is implemented via quark coalescence. The $p_{\rm T}$-integrated cross section of prompt $\Xi^0_{\rm c}$-baryon production at midrapidity extrapolated down to $p_{\rm T}$ = 0 is also reported. These measurements offer insights and constraints for theoretical calculations of the hadronisation process. Additionally, they provide inputs for the calculation of the charm production cross section in p$-$Pb collisions at midrapidity.

Abstract:The first measurement of the production of pions, kaons, (anti-)protons and $\phi$ mesons at midrapidity in Xe-Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.44$ TeV is presented. Transverse momentum ($p_{\rm T}$) spectra and $p_{\rm T}$-integrated yields are extracted in several centrality intervals bridging from p-Pb to mid-central Pb-Pb collisions in terms of final-state multiplicity. The study of Xe-Xe and Pb-Pb collisions allows systems at similar charged-particle multiplicities but with different initial geometrical eccentricities to be investigated. A detailed comparison of the spectral shapes in the two systems reveals an opposite behaviour for radial and elliptic flow. In particular, this study shows that the radial flow does not depend on the colliding system when compared at similar charged-particle multiplicity. In terms of hadron chemistry, the previously observed smooth evolution of particle ratios with multiplicity from small to large collision systems is also found to hold in Xe-Xe. In addition, our results confirm that two remarkable features of particle production at LHC energies are also valid in the collision of medium-sized nuclei: the lower proton-to-pion ratio with respect to the thermal model expectations and the increase of the $\phi$-to-pion ratio with increasing final-state multiplicity.

Abstract:The production of the sigma (σ) meson is investigated in the quantum molecular dynamics model for the p+A reactions with the nuclei A being 12 C , 40 Ca and 208 Pb at the incident proton energies Ep = 1.50 GeV . The simulation results indicates a distinctive A dependence of the sigma production, that is, the increase of A is followed by an increase of the production cross-sections. The σ meson production in proton induced reactions is strongly medium-dependent, and the produced σ mesons decaying in a denser medium experience a stronger mass shift towards lower masses. This mass shift is an experimentally accessible observable in the final state pion pairs which did not suffer reabsorption by the surrounding nucleons. It is pointed out that the ratio of the simulation results of measurable σ mesons (in the form of two pions) cross-sections as a function of the sigma invariant-mass from various reactions opens the possibility to address experimentally the mass shift of the σ in a dense nuclear environment.

Abstract:The sigma meson production is investigated in p + 40 Ca and p + 208 Pb at the incident energy 1.5 GeV within the Quantum Molecular Dynamics model. The simulation results indicate a distinctive A dependence of the sigma production that the increase of A is followed by an increase of the production cross section. Measurement of the inclusive cross sections for W and Z boson production in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 and 13 TeV

Abstract:Measurements of fiducial and total inclusive cross sections for W and Z boson production are presented in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5.02 and 13 TeV. Electron and muon decay modes ($ell$ = e or$\mu$) are studied in the data collected with the CMS detector in 2017, in dedicated runs with reduced instantaneous luminosity. The data sets correspond to integrated luminosities of 298 $\pm$ 6 pb$^{-1}$ at 5.02 TeV and 206 $\pm$ 5 pb$^{-1}$ at 13 TeV. Measured values of the products of the total inclusive cross sections and the branching fractions at 5.02 TeV are $\sigma$(pp $\to$ W+X)$\mathcal{B}$(W $\to$ $\ell\nu$) = 7300 $\pm$ 10 (stat) $\pm$ 60 (syst) $\pm$ 140 (lumi) pb, and $\sigma$(pp $\to$ Z+X)$\mathcal{B}$(Z $\to$ $\ell^+\ell^-$) = 669 $\pm$ 2 (stat) $\pm$ 6 (syst) $\pm$ 13 (lumi) pb for the dilepton invariant mass in the range of 60-120 GeV. The corresponding results at 13 TeV are 20480 $\pm$ 10 (stat) $\pm$ 170 (syst) $\pm$ 470 (lumi) pb and 1952 $\pm$ 4 (stat) $\pm$ 18 (syst) $\pm$ 45 (lumi) pb. The measured values agree with cross section calculations at next-to-next-to-leading-order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics. Fiducial and total inclusive cross sections, ratios of cross sections of W$^+$ and W$^-$ production as well as inclusive W and Z boson production, and ratios of these measurements at 5.02 and 13 TeV are reported.

Abstract:The first measurement of the coherent photoproduction of $\rho^{0}$ vector mesons in ultra-peripheral Xe-Xe collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{\rm NN}}}= 5.44$ TeV is presented. This result, together with previous HERA $\gamma$p data and $\gamma$-Pb measurements from ALICE, describes the atomic number ($A$) dependence of this process, which is particularly sensitive to nuclear shadowing effects and to the approach to the black-disc limit of QCD at a semi-hard scale. The cross section of the ${\rm Xe}+{\rm Xe} \to \rho^{0} + {\rm Xe}+{\rm Xe}$ process, measured at midrapidity through the decay channel $\rho^{0}\to\pi^+\pi^-$, is found to be ${\rm d}\sigma/{\rm d}y=131.5\pm 5.6 {\rm (stat.)} ^{+17.5}_{-16.9} {\rm (syst.)}$ mb. The ratio of the continuum to resonant contributions for the production of pion pairs is also measured. In addition, the fraction of events accompanied by electromagnetic dissociation of either one or both colliding nuclei is reported. The dependence on $A$ of cross section for the coherent $\rho^{0}$ photoproduction at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon of the $\gamma A$ system of $W_{\gamma A,n}= 65$ GeV is found to be consistent with a power-law behaviour $\sigma (\gamma A\rightarrow \rho^{0} A) \propto A^{\alpha}$ with a slope $\alpha = 0.96 \pm 0.02 {\rm (syst.)}$. This slope signals important shadowing effects, but it is still far from the behaviour expected in the black-disc limit.

Abstract:We report the p+p and p+d differential cross sections measured in the SeaQuest experiment for J/ψ and ψ(2S) production at 120 GeV beam energy covering the forward x-Feynman (x_F) range of 0.5 < x_F <0.9. The measured cross sections are in good agreement with theoretical calculations based on the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) using the long-distance matrix elements deduced from a recent global analysis of proton- and pion-induced charmonium production data. The σ_ψ(2S) / σ_J/ψ cross section ratios are found to increase as x_F increases, indicating that the q q̅ annihilation process has larger contributions in the ψ(2S) production than the J/ψ production. The σ_pd/2σ_pp cross section ratios are observed to be significantly different for the Drell-Yan process and J/ψ production, reflecting their different production mechanisms. We find that the σ_pd/2σ_pp ratios for J/ψ production at the forward x_F region are sensitive to the d̅/ u̅ flavor asymmetry of the proton sea, analogous to the Drell-Yan process. The transverse momentum (p_T) distributions for J/ψ and ψ(2S) production are also presented and compared with data collected at higher center-of-mass energies.
Particle Production at Large P T in Xe+Xe Collisions with Jet Quenching Using the Higher Twist Approach*

Abstract:The production of pi(0), eta, and phi in the most central (0%-5%) Xe+Xe collisions at root s(N)(N) = 5.44 TeV is investigated in the framework of the perturbative QCD (pQCD) improved parton model at an accuracy of next-toleading order (NLO). The jet quenching effect is effectively incorporated by medium-modified fragmentation functions via the higher-twist approach. Predictions of the nuclear modification factors of pi(0), eta, and phi as functions of the transverse momentum p(T) are made with the jet transport parameter (q) over cap (0), which is extracted from the available experimental data of charged hadrons provided by ALICE and CMS. The particle ratios eta/pi(0), phi/pi(0) as functions of p(T) in Xe+Xe collisions at root s(N)(N) = 5.44 TeV as well as in 0%-5% Pb + Pb collisions at root s(N)(N) = 5.02 TeV are also presented. The numerical simulations of the scaled ratios of charged hadron production in the Xe+Xe 5.44 TeV system over those in the Pb+Pb 5.02 TeV system give a good description of the CMS data, and the scaled ratios of pi(0), eta, and phi production coincide with the curve of charged hadron production.

Abstract:Using a gauged flavor SU(3)-invariant hadronic Lagrangian, we have calculated the cross sections for the strangeness-exchange reactions YY <-> N Xi (Y = Lambda, Sigma) in the Born approximation. These cross sections are then used in the Relativistic Vlasov-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (RVUU) transport model to study Xi production in Ar+KCl collisions at incident energy of 1.76A GeV and impact parameter b = 3.5 fm. We find that including the contributions of hyperon-hyperon scattering channels strongly enhances the yield of Xi, leading to the abundance ratio Xi(-)/(Lambda + Sigma(0)) = 3.38 x 10(-3), which is essentially consistent with the recently measured value of (5.6 +/- 1.2(-1.7)(+1.8)) x 10(-3) by the HADES collaboration at GSI.

Abstract:Using the upgraded Beijing Spectrometer we have measured the total cross section for e(+) e(-) annihilation into hadronic final states at center-of-mass energies of 2.6, 3.2,.3.4, 3.55, 4.6, and 5.0 GeV. Values of R, sigma(e(+)e(-) --> hadrons)/sigma(e(+)e(-) --> mu(+)mu(-)), are determined.

The numerical simulations of the scaled ratios of the charged hadron productions in Xe + Xe 5.44 TeV system over that in Pb + Pb 5.02 TeV give a nice description of the CMS data, and the scaled ratios of $\pi^0$, $\eta$ and $\phi$ productions coincide with the curve of charged hadron productions.

Abstract:Based on electron positron collision data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage rings, the differential cross sections of inclusive $\pi^0$ and $K^0_S$ production as a function of hadron momentum, normalized by the total cross section of the $e^{+}e^{-} \to$ hadrons process, are measured at six center-of-mass energies from 2.2324 to 3.6710 GeV. Our results with a relative hadron energy coverage from 0.1 to 0.9 significantly deviate from several theoretical calculations based on existing fragmentation functions, especially at lower energies.

Abstract:We report on measurements of the $\\ensuremath{\\Upsilon}(1S)$, $\\ensuremath{\\Upsilon}(2S)$, and $\\ensuremath{\\Upsilon}(3S)$ differential, ${(\\frac{{d}^{2}\\ensuremath{\\sigma}}{d{P}_{t}\\mathrm{dy}})}_{y=0}$, and integrated cross sections in $p\\overline{p}$ collisions at $\\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV using a sample of 16.6 \\ifmmode\\pm\\else\\textpm\\fi{} 0.6 ${\\mathrm{pb}}^{\\ensuremath{-}1}$ collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The three resonances were reconstructed through the decay $\\ensuremath{\\Upsilon}\\ensuremath{\\rightarrow}{\\ensuremath{\\mu}}^{+}{\\ensuremath{\\mu}}^{\\ensuremath{-}}$. Comparison is made to a leading order QCD prediction.

Abstract:Using $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb$^{-1}$, we measure the Born cross sections for the process $e^+e^-\to K^-\bar{\Xi}^+\Lambda/\Sigma^{0}$ at thirty-five energy points with a partial-reconstruction strategy. By fitting the dressed cross sections of $e^+e^-\to K^-\bar{\Xi}^+\Lambda/\Sigma^{0}$, evidence for $\psi(4160) \to K^{-}\bar\Xi^{+}\Lambda$ is found for the first time with a significance of 4.4$\sigma$, including systematic uncertainties. No evidence for other possible resonances is found. In addition, the products of electronic partial width and branching fraction for all assumed resonances decaying into $K^{-}\bar\Xi^{+}\Lambda/\Sigma^{0}$ are determined.

Abstract:We measure the inclusive branching fractions of charm mesons into three mesons with large $s\overline{s}$ content, namely, the $\ensuremath{\eta}$, ${\ensuremath{\eta}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ and $\ensuremath{\phi}$. Data were accumulated with the CLEO-c detector. For ${D}^{0}$ and ${D}^{+}$ rates, we use $281\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ taken on the $\ensuremath{\psi}(3770)$ resonance, and for ${D}_{s}^{+}$ rates, we use $195\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ taken at 4170 MeV. We find that the production rates of these particles are larger in ${D}_{s}^{+}$ decays than in ${D}^{0}$ and ${D}^{+}$ decays. The $\ensuremath{\phi}$ rate, in particular, is 15 times greater. These branching fractions can be used to measure ${B}_{s}$ yields either at the $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(5S)$ resonance or at hadron colliders.

Abstract:Photoproduction of the cascade resonances has been investigated in the reactions $\gamma p \to K^+ K^+ (X)$ and $\gamma p \to K^+ K^+ \pi^- (X)$. The mass split of the $\Xi$ doublet is measured to be $5.4\pm 1.8$ MeV/c$^2$, consistent with existing measurements. The differential (total) cross sections for the $\Xi^{-}$ have been determined for photon beam energies from 2.75 to 3.85 (4.75) GeV, and are consistent with a possible production mechanism of $Y^*\to K^+\Xi^-$ through a $t$-channel process. The reaction $\gamma p \to K^+ K^+ \pi^-[\Xi^0]$ has also been investigated in search of excited cascade resonances. No significant signal of excited cascade states other than the $\Xi^-(1530)$ is observed. The cross section results of the $\Xi^-(1530)$ have also been obtained for photon beam energies from 3.35 to 4.75 GeV.

Measurement of differential ZZ+jets production cross sections in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

Abstract:Diboson production in association with jets is studied in the fully leptonic final states, pp $\to$ (Z$\gamma^*$)(Z/$\gamma^*$)+jets $\to$ 2$\ell$2$\ell'$+jets, ($\ell,\ell'$ = e or $\mu$) in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. Differential distributions and normalized differential cross sections are measured as a function of jet multiplicity, transverse momentum $p_\mathrm{T}$, pseudorapidity $\eta$, invariant mass and $\Delta\eta$ of the highest-$p_\mathrm{T}$ and second-highest-$p_\mathrm{T}$ jets, and as a function of invariant mass of the four-lepton system for events with various jet multiplicities. These differential cross sections are compared with theoretical predictions that mostly agree with the experimental data. However, in a few regions we observe discrepancies between the predicted and measured values. Further improvement of the predictions is required to describe the ZZ+jets production in the whole phase space.
