Abstract:OH(1720 MHz) masers are created by the interaction of supernova remnants with molecular clouds. These masers are pumped by collisions in warm, shocked molecular gas with OH column densities in the range 10^{16}--10^{17} cm^{-2}. Excitation calculations suggest that inversion of the 6049 MHz OH line may occur at the higher column densities that have been inferred from main-line absorption studies of supernova remnants with the Green Bank Telescope. OH(6049 MHz) masers have therefore been proposed as a complementary indicator of remnant-cloud interaction. This motivated searches for 6049 MHz maser emission from supernova remnants using the Parkes 63 m and Effelsberg 100 m telescopes, and the Australia Telescope Compact Array. A total of forty-one remnants have been examined by one or more of these surveys, but without success. To check the accuracy of the OH column densities inferred from the single-dish observations we modelled OH absorption at 1667 MHz observed with the Very Large Array towards three supernova remnants, IC 443, W44 and 3C 391. The results are mixed -- the OH column is revised upwards in IC443, downwards in 3C391, and is somewhat reduced in W44. We conclude that OH columns exceeding 10^{17} cm^{-2} are indeed present in some supernova remnants and so the lack of any detections is not explained by low OH column density. We discuss the possibility that non-local line overlap is responsible for suppressing the inversion of the 6049 MHz line.
Thermal OH (1667/65 MHz) Absorption and Nonthermal OH (1720 MHz) Emission Towards the W28 Supernova Remnant

Abstract:The W28 supernova remnant is an excellent prototype for observing shocked gas resulting from the interaction of supernova remnants (SNRs) and adjacent molecular clouds (MCs). We present two new signatures of shocked molecular gas in this remnant. One is the detection of main-line extended OH (1667 MHz) absorption with broad linewidths. The column density of OH estimated from the optical depth profiles is consistent with a theoretical model in which OH is formed behind a C-type shock front. The second is the detection of extended, weak OH (1720 MHz) line emission with narrow linewidth distributed throughout the shocked region of W28. These give observational support to the idea that compact maser sources delineate the brightest component of a much larger region of main line OH absorption and nonthermal OH (1720 MHz) emission tracing the global structure of shocked molecular gas. Main line OH (1665/67) absorption and extended OH (1720 MHz) emission line studies can serve as powerful tools to detect SNR-MC interaction even when bright OH (1720 MHz) masers are absent.

Abstract:We report on a second epoch of VLBA observations of the 1665 and 1667 MHz OH masers in the massive star-forming region W75 N. We find evidence to confirm the existence of very strong (~40 mG) magnetic fields near source VLA 2. The masers near VLA 2 are dynamically distinct and include a very bright spot apparently moving at 50 km/s relative to those around VLA 1. This fast-moving spot may be an example of a rare class of OH masers seen in outflows in star-forming regions. Due to the variability of these masers and the rapidity of their motions, tracking these motions will require multiple observations over a significantly shorter time baseline than obtained here. Proper motions of the masers near VLA 1 are more suggestive of streaming along magnetized shocks rather than Keplerian rotation in a disk. The motions of the easternmost cluster of masers in W75 N (B) may be tracing slow expansion around an unseen exciting source.

Abstract:Context.Mixed-morphology supernova remnants (MM SNRs) are a mysterious class of objects that display thermal X-ray emission within their radio shell. They are an older class of SNRs, and as such are profoundly affected by the environment into which they evolve. VRO 42.05.01 is a MM SNR of puzzling morphology in the direction of the Galactic anticentre.Aims.Low-frequency radio observations of supernova remnants are sensitive to synchrotron electrons accelerated in the shock front. We aim to compare the low-frequency emission to higher frequency observations to understand the environmental and shock acceleration conditions that have given rise to the observed properties of this source.Methods.We present a LOFAR High Band Antenna map centred at 143 MHz of the region of the Galactic plane centred atl = 166 ° , b = 3.5° at 143 MHz, with a resolution of 148″ and an rms noise of 4.4 mJy bm−1. Our map is sensitive to scales as large as 6°. We compared the LOw Frequency ARay (LOFAR) observations to archival higher frequency radio, infrared, and optical data to study the emission properties of the source in different spectral regimes. We did this both for the SNR and for OA 184, an H II region within our field of view.Results.We find that the radio spectral index of VRO 42.05.01 increases at low radio frequencies; i.e. the LOFAR flux is higher than expected from the measured spectral index value at higher radio frequencies. This observed curvature in the low-frequency end of the radio spectrum occurs primarily in the brightest regions of the source, while the fainter regions present a roughly constant power-law behaviour between 143 MHz and 2695 MHz. We favour an explanation for this steepening whereby radiative shocks have high compression ratios and electrons of different energies probe different length scales across the shocks, therefore sampling regions of different compression ratios.

Abstract:Both the left-and right-handed circularly polarized radiations of the masers in the ultra-compact hydrogen II region G45.07+0.13, due to the transition from the OH ground state 2 II 3 2 , J = 3 2 , F = 1 → 1, have been observed with the US VLBI array. using the multiplepoint fringe rate method, we have constructed the map of the maser structure with a relative position accuracy of 20 mas. With the fringe rate of the calibration source and that of the maser component with a velocity of 56.7 km s −1 , taken to be the phase reference point, the absolute position of the phase reference point has been calculated as given by α (1950.0) = 19 h 11 m 00.46 s , δ (1950.0) = 10°45′ 43.2″. We have found that most maser components are located in the front of the comet-shaped HII region and that their distance to the center of hydrogen II region is approximately 0.4″. This agrees well with the distance from the vertex of the parabolic ionization wavefront to the young celestial body, as estimated with the bow shock model. By use of the tube-shaped model and under the assumption of fully saturated radiation, the number density of the hydrogen molecules in maser regions has been derived to be 4.5×10 8 cm −3 . Such high density regions are very possibly the thick clouds of neutral molecules swept up by shock waves and are located in the front side of ionization wavefront. In this maser active region a pair of Zeemansplit lines have been found and from the difference of their radial velocities a magnetic field of 3 mG has been inferred. Its direction is away from the Earth. Similar to the observation of G34.3±0.2, the diameter of the maser cluster near the compact hydrogen II region has the order of magnitude of 10 16 cm. This is 50 times larger than the thickness of a neutral gas layer possibly swept up by shock waves. It is still not clear how this can be explained.

Abstract:We perform a molecular (CO and CN) line observation using IRAM 30m telescope toward two small regions near the western edge of supernova remnant (SNR) W50/SS433. CO observation reveals spatial correspondence of two molecular clumps at the local-standard-of-rest (LSR) velocity around +53 km s$^{-1}$ with multiwavelength local features of W50/SS433 system. One of the two clumps appears to be embedded in a void of diffuse radio and X-ray emission. Toward the two clumps, asymmetric broad line profiles of the $^{12}$CO lines are obtained, which provide kinematic evidence of the association between the clumps and the jet-related gas. The $^{12}$CO $J=2-1$/$J=1-0$ line ratios ($> 0.9$) and the kinetic temperatures ($\sim 30$ K) of the clumps are distinctively higher than all those of the clumps at other LSR velocities along the same line of sight, which may be physical signatures of the association. We show that the clump coincident with the void can survive the thermal heating if it is surrounded by hot gas, with an evaporation timescale much larger than the age of SNR W50. We also show that the thermal equilibrium in the high temperature clumps can be maintained by the heating of the penetrating environmental CRs. CN ($J=3/1-1/2$) line emission is detected in the two clumps, and the CN abundances derived are much higher than that in the interstellar molecular clouds (MCs) and that in the SNR-interacting MCs.
The Formaldehyde Masers in NGC 7538 and G29.96-0.02: VLBA, MERLIN, and VLA Observations

Abstract:The 6 cm formaldehyde (H2CO) maser sources in the compact HII regions NGC 7538-IRS1 and G29.96-0.02 have been imaged at high resolution (beams < 50 mas). Using the VLBA and MERLIN, we find the angular sizes of the NGC 7538 masers to be ~10 mas (30 AU) corresponding to brightness temperatures ~10^8 K. The angular sizes of the G29.96-0.02 masers are ~20 mas (130 AU) corresponding to brightness temperatures ~10^7 K. Using the VLA, we detect 2 cm formaldehyde absorption from the maser regions. We detect no emission in the 2 cm line, indicating the lack of a 2 cm maser and placing limits on the 6 cm excitation process. We find that both NGC 7538 maser components show an increase in intensity on 5-10 year timescales while the G29.96-0.02 masers show no variability over 2 years. A search for polarization provides 3-sigma upper limits of 1% circularly polarized and 10% linearly polarized emission in NGC 7538 and of 15% circularly polarized emission in G29.96-0.02. A pronounced velocity gradient of 28 km/s/arcsecond (1900 km/s/pc) is detected in the NGC 7538 maser gas.

Revisiting the Distance, Environment, and Supernova Properties of SNR G57.2+0.8 That Hosts SGR 1935+2154

Abstract:We have performed a multiwavelength study of supernova remnant (SNR) G57.2+0.8 and its environment. The SNR hosts the magnetar SGR 1935+2154, which emitted an extremely bright millisecond-duration radio burst on 2020 April 28. We used the 12CO and 13CO J = 1–0 data from the Milky Way Image Scroll Painting CO line survey to search for molecular gas associated with G57.2+0.8, in order to constrain the physical parameters (e.g., the distance) of the SNR and its magnetar. We report that SNR G57.2+0.8 is likely impacting the molecular clouds (MCs) at the local standard of rest (LSR) velocity and excites a weak 1720 MHz OH maser with a peak flux density of 47 mJy beam−1. The chance coincidence of a random OH spot falling in the SNR is ≤12%, and the OH–CO correspondence chance is 7% at the maser spot. This combines to give <1% false probability of the OH maser, suggesting a real maser detection. The LSR velocity of the MCs places the SNR and magnetar at a kinematic distance of 6.6 ± 0.7 kpc. The nondetection of thermal X-ray emission from the SNR and the relatively dense environment suggests G57.2+0.8 be an evolved SNR with an age . The explosion energy of G57.2+0.8 is lower than , which is not very energetic even assuming a high ambient density . This reinforces the opinion that magnetars do not necessarily result from very energetic supernova explosions.

Abstract:W75N(B) is a massive star-forming region that contains three radio continuum sources (VLA 1, VLA 2, and VLA 3), which are thought to be three massive young stellar objects at three different evolutionary stages. VLA 1 is the most evolved and VLA 2 the least evolved source. The 22 GHz H2O masers associated with VLA 1 and VLA 2 have been mapped at several epochs over eight years. While the H2O masers in VLA 1 show a persistent linear distribution along a radio jet, those in VLA 2 are distributed around an expanding shell. Furthermore, H2O maser polarimetric measurements revealed magnetic fields aligned with the two structures. Using new polarimetric observations of H2O masers, we aim to confirm the elliptical expansion of the shell-like structure around VLA 2 and, at the same time, to determine if the magnetic fields around the two sources have changed. The NRAO Very Long Baseline Array was used to measure the linear polarization and the Zeeman-splitting of the 22 GHz H2O masers towards the massive star-forming region W75N(B). The H2O maser distribution around VLA 1 is unchanged from that previously observed. We made an elliptical fit of the H2O masers around VLA 2. We find that the shell-like structure is still expanding along the direction parallel to the thermal radio jet of VLA 1. While the magnetic field around VLA 1 has not changed in the past 7 years, the magnetic field around VLA 2 has changed its orientation according to the new direction of the major-axis of the shell-like structure and it is now aligned with the magnetic field in VLA 1.
The Effect of 53 micron IR Radiation on 18 cm OH Megamaser Emission

Abstract:OH megamasers (OHMs) emit primarily in the main lines at 1667 and 1665 MHz, and differ from their Galactic counterparts due to their immense luminosities, large linewidths and 1667/1665 MHz flux ratios, which are always greater than one. We find that these maser properties result from strong 53 micron radiative pumping combined with line overlap effects caused by turbulent linewidths of about 20 km/s; pumping calculations that do not include line overlap are unreliable. A minimum dust temperature of about 45 K is needed for inversion, and maximum maser efficiency occurs for dust temperatures in the range 80 - 140 K. We find that warmer dust can support inversion at lower IR luminosities, in agreement with observations. Our results are in good agreement with a clumpy model of OHMs, with clouds sizes about 1 pc and OH column densities about 5e16 cm^2, that is able to explain both the diffuse and compact emission observed for OHMs. We suggest that all OH main line masers may be pumped by far-IR radiation, with the major differences between OHMs and Galactic OH masers caused by differences in linewidth produced by line overlap. Small Galactic maser linewidths tend to produce stronger 1665 MHz emission. The large OHM linewidths lead to inverted ground state transitions having approximately the same excitation temperature, producing 1667/1665 MHz flux ratios greater than one and weak satellite line emission. Finally, the small observed ratio of pumping radiation to dense molecular gas, as traced by HCN and HCO$^+$, is a possible reason for the lack of OH megamaser emission in NGC 6240.
Very Large Array Observations of Galactic Center OH 1720 MHz Masers in Sagittarius A East and in the Circumnuclear Disk

Abstract:We present Very Large Array (VLA) radio interferometry observations of the 1720 MHz OH masers in the Galactic center (GC). Most 1720 MHz OH masers arise in regions where the supernova remnant Sgr A East is interacting with the interstellar medium. The majority of the newly found 1720 MHz OH masers are located to the northeast, independently indicating and confirming an area of shock interaction with the +50 km s−1 molecular cloud (M–0.02–0.07) on the far side of Sgr A East. The previously known bright masers in the southeast are suggested to be the result of the interaction between two supernova remnants, instead of between Sgr A East and the surrounding molecular clouds, as generally found elsewhere in the Galaxy. Together with masers north of the circumnuclear disk (CND) they outline an interaction on the near side of Sgr A East. In contrast to the interaction between the +50 km s−1 cloud and Sgr A East, OH absorption data do not support a direct interaction between the CND material and Sgr A East. We also present three new high-negative velocity masers, supporting a previous single detection. The location and velocities of the high-negative and high-positive velocity masers are consistent with being near the tangent points of, and physically located in, the CND. We argue that the high-velocity masers in the CND are pumped by dissipation between density clumps in the CND instead of a shock generated by the supernova remnant. That is, the CND masers are not coupled to the supernova remnant and are sustained independently.

Abstract:We present measurements of the distribution of the OH masers at 1665 and 1667 MHz towards the cometary ultracompact H II region in the complex G34.3+0.2. The results are based on observations made in both senses of circular polarization with a very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) array having an angular resolution of 5x20 mas(2). 38 maser features are identified in the region. 33 of these lie on an arc at the edge of the cometary H II region. Five are located in a cluster offset toward the north-east by 3 arcsec, and are probably associated with an independent ultracompact H II region. There is a velocity gradient of 30 km s(-1) pc(-1) across the arc. We identify five Zeeman pairs and determine that the magnetic field varies between 1 and 7 mG, but is always directed away from the Earth.The OH masers may arise in clumps in a shell of gas in a bow shock caused by the motion of the exciting star through the molecular cloud. The stand-off distance and the thickness of the shocked shell are roughly consistent with those predicted by such a bow-shock model. Also, the position of the exciting star(s), as estimated from the focus of the parabolic bow shock, closely matches that of the peak emission from the cometary H II region. However, the north-south velocity gradient in the ionized material remains difficult to explain in the context of the bow-shock model.
Astrometric VLBI observations of H$_2$O masers in an extreme OH/IR star candidate NSV17351

Abstract:Results of astrometric very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations towards an extreme OH/IR star candidate NSV17351 are presented. We used the VERA (VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry) VLBI array to observe 22\,GHz H$_2$O masers of NSV17351. We derived an annual parallax of 0.247$\pm$0.035 mas which corresponds to a distance of 4.05$\pm$0.59 kpc. By averaging the proper motions of 15 maser spots, we obtained the systemic proper motion of NSV17351 to be ($\mu_{\alpha}\cos{\delta}, \mu_{\delta}$)$^{\mathrm{avg}}$ $=$ ($-$1.19 $\pm$ 0.11, 1.30 $\pm$ 0.19) mas\,yr$^{-1}$. The maser spots spread out over a region of 20 mas $\times$ 30 mas, which can be converted to a spatial distribution of $\sim$80 au $\times$ $\sim$120 au at the source distance. Internal motions of the maser spots suggest an outward moving maser region with respect to the estimated position of the central star. From single dish monitoring of the H$_2$O maser emission, we estimate the pulsation period of NSV17351 to be 1122$\pm$24 days. This is the first report of the periodic activity of NSV17351, indicating that NSV17351 could have a mass of $\sim$4\,M$_{\odot}$. We confirmed that the time variation of H$_2$O masers can be used as a period estimator of variable OH/IR stars. Furthermore, by inspecting dozens of double-peaked H$_2$O maser spectra from the last 40 years, we detected a long-term acceleration in the radial velocity of the circumstellar matter to be $0.17\pm0.03$ km\,s$^{-1}$\,yr$^{-1}$ Finally, we determined the position and kinematics of NSV17351 in the Milky Way Galaxy and found that NSV17351 is located in an interarm region between the Outer and Perseus arms. We note that astrometric VLBI observations towards extreme OH/IR stars are useful samples for studies of the Galactic dynamics.

Monitoring of the polarized $H_{2}O$ maser emission around the massive protostars W75N(B)-VLA1 and W75N(B)-VLA2

Abstract:Several radio sources have been detected in the HMSFR W75N(B), among them the massive YSOs VLA1 and VLA2 are of great interest. These are thought to be in different evolutionary stages. In particular, VLA1 is at the early stage of the photoionization and it is driving a thermal radio jet, while VLA2 is a thermal, collimated ionized wind surrounded by a dusty disk or envelope. In both sources 22 GHz water masers have been detected in the past. Those around VLA1 show a persistent distribution along the radio jet and those around VLA2 have instead traced the evolution from a non-collimated to a collimated outflow over a period of 20 years. By monitoring the polarized emission of the water masers around both VLA1 and VLA2 over a period of 6 years, we aim to determine whether the maser distributions show any variation over time and whether the magnetic field behaves accordingly. The EVN was used in full polarization and phase-reference mode to measure the absolute positions of the masers and to determine both the orientation and the strength of the magnetic field. We observed four epochs separated by two years from 2014 to 2020. We detected polarized emission from the water masers around both the YSOs in all the epochs. We find that the masers around VLA1 are tracing a nondissociative shock originating from the expansion of the thermal radio jet, while the masers around VLA2 are tracing an asymmetric expansion of the gas that is halted in the northeast where the gas likely encounters a very dense medium. We also found that the magnetic field inferred from the water masers in each epoch can be considered as a portion of a quasi-static magnetic field estimated in that location rather than in that time. This allowed us to study locally the morphology of the magnetic field around both YSOs in a larger area by considering the vectors estimated in all the epochs as a whole.

The Formaldehyde Masers in Sgr B2: Very Long Baseline Array and Very Large Array Observations

Abstract:Observations of two of the formaldehyde (H2CO) masers (A and D) in Sgr B2 using the VLBA+Y27 (resolution ≈0.01'') and the VLA (resolution ≈9'') are presented. The VLBA observations show compact sources (≲10 mas, ≲80 AU) with brightness temperatures >108 K. The maser sources are partially resolved in the VLBA observations. The flux densities in the VLBA observations are about 1/2 those of the VLA, and the line widths are about 2/3 of the VLA values. The applicability of a core-halo model for the emission distribution is demonstrated. Comparison with earlier H2CO absorption observations and with ammonia (NH3) observations suggests that H2CO masers form in shocked gas. Comparison of the integrated flux densities in current VLA observations with those in previous observations indicates that (1) most of the masers have varied in the past 20 years, and (2) intensity variations are typically less than a factor of 2 compared to the 20 yr mean. No significant linear or circular polarization is detected with either instrument.

Abstract:We compare multi-epoch sub-arcsecond VLA imaging of the 22 GHz water masers toward the massive protocluster NGC6334I observed before and after the recent outburst of MM1B in (sub)millimeter continuum. Since the outburst, the water maser emission toward MM1 has substantially weakened. Simultaneously, the strong water masers associated with the synchrotron continuum point source CM2 have flared by a mean factor of 6.5 (to 4.2 kJy) with highly-blueshifted features (up to 70 km/s from LSR) becoming more prominent. The strongest flaring water masers reside 3000 au north of MM1B and form a remarkable bow shock pattern whose vertex coincides with CM2 and tail points back to MM1B. Excited OH masers trace a secondary bow shock located ~120 au downstream. ALMA images of CS (6-5) reveal a highly-collimated north-south structure encompassing the flaring masers to the north and the non-flaring masers to the south seen in projection toward the MM3-UCHII region. Proper motions of the southern water masers over 5.3 years indicate a bulk projected motion of 117 km/s southward from MM1B with a dynamical time of 170 yr. We conclude that CM2, the water masers, and many of the excited OH masers trace the interaction of the high velocity bipolar outflow from MM1B with ambient molecular gas. The previously-excavated outflow cavity has apparently allowed the radiative energy of the current outburst to propagate freely until terminating at the northern bow shock where it strengthened the masers. Additionally, water masers have been detected toward MM7 for the first time, and a highly-collimated CS (6-5) outflow has been detected toward MM4.

Unified Framework for Dislocation-Based Defect Energetics

Abstract:We present a unified framework for the calculation of defect energies for those defects that can be represented as a superposition of isolated dislocations, and obtain both self and interaction energies of combinations of grain boundaries and cracks. We recover in special limits several well known quantities such as the energy of a low-angle tilt boundary, as well as other lesser known results, including boundary/boundary and crack/boundary interaction energies. This approach, in combination with simple dimensional analysis, permits the rapid calculation of defect energetics in the elastic limit.

Abstract:We present Very Long Baseline Array observations of radio continuum and OH line emission toward the OH megamaser (OHM) galaxy IRAS 01298−0744. We recover over 82% of the OH line emission seen in single-dish observations, including multiple strong OH line components and the broad shallow line profile spanning over 1000 km s −1 . The OH emission spatially has four compact components, as well as diffuse emission, and the 3 σ signals are distributed in a rectangular region with size of ∼40 × 30 mas. The spatial-velocity structure is complex and is consistent with that from HCN and HCO + lines in the literature, indicating that the nuclear region of this source is likely still in the merging process characterized by intense nuclear activities. The multiple strong OH peaks are blue-shifted compared to dense millimetre-wave molecular gas tracers, but similar to optical Na I absorption. This suggests that the compact masers might be in an outflow driven by an active galactic nucleus or starburst. We have detected compact radio continuum emissions adjacent to the maser positions with a brightness temperature of around 3 × 10 6 K, similar to other OHM galaxies with very-long-baseline interferometry observations in the literature, which is consistent with a starburst origin.

The OH Megamaser Emission in Arp\,220: the rest of the story

Abstract:The OH Megamaser emission in the merging galaxy Arp220 has been re-observed with the Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network (MERLIN) and the European VLBI Network (EVN). Imaging results of the OH line emission at the two nuclei are found to be consistent with earlier observations and confirm additional extended emission structures surrounding the nuclei. Detailed information about the distributed emission components around the two nuclei has been obtained using a concatenated MERLIN and EVN database with intermediate (40 mas) spatial resolution. Continuum imaging shows a relatively compact West nucleus and a more extended East nucleus in addition to an extended continuum ridge stretching below and beyond the two nuclei. Spectral line imaging show extended emission regions at both nuclei together with compact components and additional weaker components north and south of the West nucleus. Spectral line analysis indicates that the dominant OH line emission originates in foreground molecular material that is part of a large-scale molecular structure that engulfs the whole nuclear region. Compact OH components are representative of star formation regions within the two nearly edge-on nuclei and define the systemic velocities of East and West as 5425 km/s and 5360 km/s. The foreground material at East and West has a 100 km/s lower velocity at 5314 and 5254 km/s. These emission results confirm a maser amplification scenario where the background continuum and the line emission of the star formation regions are amplified by foreground masering material that is excited by the FIR radiation field originating in the two nuclear regions.

Abstract:We carried out observations of the 22 GHz H2O masers in a high-mass protostar S255 NIRS 3 by using VERA. We measured the proper motions of the 22 GHz H2O masers associated with a bipolar outflow. The expansion velocity of the blueshifted bow shock traced by the 22 GHz H2O masers was 28 km s-1 corresponding to a dynamical timescale of 60 years. The direction of the maser outflow is slightly tilted compared with the radio jet, which could suggest a more recent ejection episode during the accretion burst event. The total flux density of the 22 GHz H2O masers has gradually increased from early 2017 and has become almost constant in 2018. For the first time, we reveal extended H2O maser emission at 22 GHz in a star forming region, which is partly resolved out by VERA and even by the most extended VLA configurations. We find that the flux variation of such an extended component is similar to that of the unresolved maser emission. We also conducted observations of the submillimeter continuum and the 321 GHz H2O masers with ALMA at Band 7. The continuum emission does not show significant variations compared with the previous observations performed 5 months before. We mapped the 321 GHz H2O masers in S255 NIRS 3 providing the fourth example, for this maser, of the spatial distribution in a high-mass star-forming region. The lower ratio of the 22 GHz/321 GHz maser luminosity in the blueshifted bow shock suggests a temperature (>1000 K), higher than for the other maser features in this region. We conclude that the bow shock structure traced by the 22 GHz H2O maser features is unlikely to be originating at the interface between the radio jet powered by the recent accretion outburst and the surrounding medium. The brightening of the 22 GHz H2O masers could be due to radiative excitation by photons form the infrared outburst escaping along the cavity created by the newly ejected material.
