Abstract:This talk gives an introduction into the subject of Seiberg-Witten curves and their relation to integrable systems. We discuss some motivations and origins of this relation and consider explicit construction of various families of Seiberg-Witten curves in terms of corresponding integrable models.

Abstract:For any non-degenerate, quasi-homogeneous hypersurface singularity, we describe a family of moduli spaces, a virtual cycle, and a corresponding cohomological field theory associated to the singularity. This theory is analogous to Gromov-Witten theory and generalizes the theory of r-spin curves, which corresponds to the simple singularity A_r-1. We also resolve two outstanding conjectures of Witten. The first conjecture is that ADE-singularities are self-dual; and the second conjecture is that the total potential functions of ADE-singularities satisfy corresponding ADE-integrable hierarchies. Other cases of integrable hierarchies are also discussed.

Abstract:We determine new genus 2 Seiberg-Witten curves for four dimensional rank 2 absolute N=4 superYang-Mills theories using the automorphism twist approach. The conformal manifolds of these curves agree with those predicted by S-duality orbits of global structures, and we use this to identify which of the two S-duality orbits of the $so(5) \simeq sp(4)$ superYang-Mills theory the genus-2 curve corresponds to. We also compare the curves to earlier constructions of Seiberg-Witten curves for these theories as spectral curves of integrable systems. These spectral curves have genus greater than the rank, and so only give a Coulomb branch geometry upon projection to a sublattice of the homology lattice of the curves. We show how to determine the correct sublattice projection, and find that the integrable system curves do not apply to our theories.

Classical and quantum curves of 5d Seiberg's theories and their 4d limit

Abstract:In this work, we examine the classical and quantum Seiberg-Witten curves of 5d N = 1 SCFTs and their 4d limits. The 5d theories we consider are Seiberg's theories of type $E_{6,7,8}$, which serve as the UV completions of 5d SU(2) gauge theories with 5, 6, or 7 flavors. Their classical curves can be constructed using the five-brane web construction [1]. We also use it to re-derive their quantum curves [2], by employing a q-analogue of the Frobenius method in the style of [3]. This allows us to compare the reduction of these 5d curves with the 4d curves, i.e. Seiberg-Witten curves of the Minahan-Nemeschansky theories and their quantization, which have been identified in [4] with the spectral curves of rank-1 complex crystallographic elliptic Calogero-Moser systems.

Constraints on embedded spheres and real projective planes in 4-manifolds from Seiberg-Witten theory

Abstract:We calculate the Seiberg-Witten invariants of branched covers of prime degree, where the branch locus consists of embedded spheres. Aside from the formula itself, our calculations give rise to some new constraints on configurations of embedded spheres in 4-manifolds. Using similar methods, we also obtain new constraints on embeddings of real projective planes and spheres with a cusp singularity. Moreover, we show that the existence of certain configurations of surfaces would give rise to 4-manifolds of non-simple type. Our proof makes use of equivariant Seiberg-Witten invariants as well as a gluing formula for the relative Seiberg-Witten invariants of 4-manifolds with positive scalar curvature boundary.

On integral rigidity in Seiberg-Witten theory

Abstract:We introduce a framework to prove integral rigidity results for the Seiberg-Witten invariants of a closed $4$-manifold $X$ containing a non-separating hypersurface $Y$ satisfying suitable (chain-level) Floer theoretic conditions. As a concrete application, we show that if $X$ has the homology of a four-torus, and it contains a non-separating three-torus, then the sum of all Seiberg-Witten invariants of $X$ is determined in purely cohomological terms. Our results can be interpreted as $(3+1)$-dimensional versions of Donaldson's TQFT approach to the formula of Meng-Taubes, and build upon a subtle interplay between irreducible solutions to the Seiberg-Witten equations on $X$ and reducible ones on $Y$ and its complement. Along the way, we provide a concrete description of the associated graded map (for a suitable filtration) of the map on $\overline{HM}_*$ induced by a negative cobordism between three-manifolds, which might be of independent interest.

Abstract:Some of the most important classes of surfaces in projective 3-space are reviewed: these are isothermally asymptotic surfaces, projectively applicable surfaces, surfaces of Jonas, projectively minimal surfaces, etc. It is demonstrated that the corresponding projective "Gauss-Codazzi" equations reduce to integrable systems which are quite familiar from the modern soliton theory and coincide with the stationary flows in the Davey-Stewartson and Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchies, equations of the Toda lattice, etc. The corresponding Lax pairs can be obtained by inserting a spectral parameter in the equations of the Wilczynski moving frame.

Seiberg-Witten curves with O7$^\pm$-planes

Abstract:We construct Seiberg-Witten curves for 5d $\mathcal{N}=1$ gauge theories whose Type IIB 5-brane configuration involves an O7-plane and discuss an intriguing relation between theories with an O7$^+$-plane and those with an O7$^-$-plane and 8 D7-branes. We claim that 5-brane configurations with an O7$^+$-plane can be effectively understood as 5-brane configurations with a set of an O7$^-$-plane and eight D7-branes with some special tuning of their masses such that the D7-branes are frozen at the O7$^-$-plane. We check this equivalence between SU($N$) gauge theory with a symmetric hypermultiplet and SU($N$) gauge theory with an antisymmetric with 8 fundamentals, and also between SO($2N$) gauge theory and Sp($N$) gauge theory with eight fundamentals. We also compute the Seiberg-Witten curves for non-Lagrangian theories with a symmetric hypermultiplet, which includes the local $\mathbb{P}^2$ theory with an adjoint.

Abstract:We present an intuitive diagrammatic representation of a new class of integrable $\s$-models. It is shown that to any given diagram corresponds an integrable theory that couples $N$ WZW models with a certain number of each of the following four fundamental integrable models, the PCM, the YB model, both based on a group $G$, the isotropic $\s$-model on the symmetric space $G/H$ and the YB model on the symmetric space $G/H$. To each vertex of a diagram we assign the matrix of one of the aforementioned fundamental integrable theories. Any two vertices may be connected with a number of lines having an orientation and carrying an integer level $k_i$. Each of these lines is associated with an asymmetrically gauged WZW model at an arbitrary level $k_i$. Gauge invariance of the full action is translated to level conservation at the vertices. We also show how to immediately read from the diagrams the corresponding $\s$-model actions. The most generic of these models depends on at least $n^2+1$ parameters, where $n$ is the total number of vertices/fundamental integrable models. Finally, we discuss the case where the level conservation at the vertices is relaxed and the case where the deformation matrix is not diagonal in the space of integrable models.

Abstract:This talk reviews recent developments in the field of analytical Feynman integral calculations. The central theme is the geometry associated to a given Feynman integral. In the simplest case this is a complex curve of genus zero (aka the Riemann sphere). In this talk we discuss Feynman integrals related to more complicated geometries like curves of higher genus or manifolds of higher dimensions. In the latter case we encounter Calabi-Yau manifolds. We also discuss how to compute these Feynman integrals.

Seiberg-Witten curves of $\widehat{D}$-type Little Strings

Abstract:Little Strings are a type of non-gravitational quantum theories that contain extended degrees of freedom, but behave like ordinary Quantum Field Theories at low energies. A particular class of such theories in six dimensions is engineered as the world-volume theory of an M5-brane on a circle that probes a transverse orbifold geometry. Its low energy limit is a supersymmetric gauge theory that is described by a quiver in the shape of the Dynkin diagram of the affine extension of an ADE-group. While the so-called $\widehat{A}$-type Little String Theories (LSTs) are very well studied, much less is known about the $\widehat{D}$-type, where for example the Seiberg-Witten curve (SWC) is only known in the case of the $\widehat{D}_4$ theory. In this work, we provide a general construction of this curve for arbitrary $\widehat{D}_{M}$ that respects all symmetries and dualities of the LST and is compatible with lower-dimensional results in the literature. For $M=4$ our construction reproduces the same curve as previously obtained by other methods. The form in which we cast the SWC for generic $\widehat{D}_M$ allows to study the behaviour of the LST under modular transformations and provides insights into a dual formulation as a circular quiver gauge theory with nodes of $Sp(M-4)$ and $SO(2M)$.

Abstract:In this paper we systematically consider various ways of generating integrable and separable Hamiltonian systems in canonical and in non-canonical representations from algebraic curves on the plane. In particular, we consider Stäckel transform between two pairs of Stäckel systems, generated by 2n-parameter algebraic curves on the plane, as well as Miura maps between Stäckel systems generated by (n+N)-parameter algebraic curves, leading to multi-Hamiltonian representation of these systems.

Abstract:In this talk we discuss the construction of a basis of master integrals for the family of the $l$-loop equal-mass banana integrals, such that the differential equation is in an $\varepsilon$-factorised form. As the $l$-loop banana integral is related to a Calabi-Yau $(l-1)$-fold, this extends the examples where an $\varepsilon$-factorised form has been found from Feynman integrals related to curves (of genus zero and one) to Feynman integrals related to higher-dimensional varieties.

M-strings in thermodynamic limit: Seiberg-Witten geometry

Abstract:We initiate the study of M-strings in the thermodynamic limit. In this limit the BPS partition function of M5 branes localizes on configurations with a large number of strings which leads to a reformulation of the partition function in terms of a matrix model. We solve this matrix model and obtain its spectral curve which can be interpreted as the Seiberg-Witten curve associated to the compactified M5 brane theory.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the enumeration of virtual numbers of immersed nodal curves along certain Calabi-Yau K3 fibrations. By using the concept of cosmic strings, we verify the modularity conjeture of the generating function of immersed nodal curves from String theory (Harvey-Moore). Based on the theory defining virtual numbers of nodal curves on algebraic surface (applying to a pencil of lattice polarized K3), a mathematical definition of virtual numbers of immersed rational curves (so-called Gopakumar-Vafa numbers) for Calabi-Yau K3 fibrations is given and it is shown to match up with string theory prediction.

Abstract:We give a new characterisation of the unparametrised geodesics, or distinguished curves, for affine, pseudo-Riemannian, conformal, and projective geometry. This is a type of moving incidence relation. The characterisation is used to provide a very general theory and construction of quantities that are necessarily conserved along the curves. The formalism immediately yields explicit formulae for these curve first integrals. The usual role of Killing tensors and conformal Killing tensors is recovered as a special case, but the construction shows that a significantly larger class of equation solutions also yield curve first integrals. In particular any normal solution to an equation from the class of first BGG equations can yield such a conserved quantity. For some equations the condition of normality is not required. For nowhere-null curves in pseudo-Riemannian and conformal geometry additional results are available. We provide a fundamental tractor-valued invariant of such curves and this quantity is parallel if and only if the curve is an unparametrised conformal circle.

Non-perturbative approaches to the quantum Seiberg-Witten curve

Abstract:We study various non-perturbative approaches to the quantization of the Seiberg-Witten curve of ${\cal N}=2$, $SU(2)$ super Yang-Mills theory, which is closely related to the modified Mathieu operator. The first approach is based on the quantum WKB periods and their resurgent properties. We show that these properties are encoded in the TBA equations of Gaiotto-Moore-Neitzke determined by the BPS spectrum of the theory, and we relate the Borel-resummed quantum periods to instanton calculus. In addition, we use the TS/ST correspondence to obtain a closed formula for the Fredholm determinant of the modified Mathieu operator. Finally, by using blowup equations, we explain the connection between this operator and the $\tau$ function of Painleve $\rm III$.

Abstract:A bstract We show how to map Grothendieck’s dessins d’enfants to algebraic curves as Seiberg-Witten curves, then use the mirror map and the AGT map to obtain the corresponding 4d $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 supersymmetric instanton partition functions and 2d Virasoro conformal blocks. We explicitly demonstrate the 6 trivalent dessins with 4 punctures on the sphere. We find that the parametrizations obtained from a dessin should be related by certain duality for gauge theories. Then we will discuss that some dessins could correspond to conformal blocks satisfying certain rules in different minimal models.

Complex crystallographic reflection groups and Seiberg-Witten integrable systems: rank 1 case

Abstract:We consider generalisations of the elliptic Calogero--Moser systems associated to complex crystallographic groups in accordance to \cite{EFMV11ecm}. In our previous work \cite{Argyres:2021iws}, we proposed these systems as candidates for Seiberg--Witten integrable systems of certain SCFTs. Here we examine that proposal for complex crystallographic groups of rank one. Geometrically, this means considering elliptic curves $T^2$ with $\Z_m$-symmetries, $m=2,3,4,6$, and Poisson deformations of the orbifolds $(T^2\times\mathbb{C})/\Z_m$. The $m=2$ case was studied in \cite{Argyres:2021iws}, while $m=3,4,6$ correspond to Seiberg--Witten integrable systems for the rank 1 Minahan--Nemeshansky SCFTs of type $E_{6,7,8}$. This allows us to describe the corresponding elliptic fibrations and the Seiberg--Witten differential in a compact elegant form. This approach also produces quantum spectral curves for these SCFTs, which are given by Fuchsian ODEs with special properties.
