Abstract:To reveal the influence of the exchange interaction on the Josephson effect, the d.c. Josephson current in unconventional-superconductor / ferromagnet / unconventional-superconductor junctions is studied. When the two superconductors have d-wave symmetry, the Josephson current is drastically suppressed with the increase of the exchange interaction. On the other hand, when the two superconductors have different parities, e.g. s-wave and p-wave, an enhancement of the Josephson current is obtained with the increment of the exchange interaction due to the break-down of SU(2) symmetry in the spin space.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to study the Josephson effect in superconductor/ferromagnet/superconductor (S/F/S) junctions, especially to explore the influence of exchange interaction on the Josephson current. Specifically, the author focuses on the Josephson effect between unconventional superconductors, which have pairing potentials with internal phases. Two cases are mainly discussed in the paper: 1. **d - wave superconductor/ferromagnet/d - wave superconductor (d/F/d) junction**: - When both superconductors have d - wave symmetry, the Josephson current is significantly suppressed as the exchange interaction increases. - By analyzing the Andreev reflection process, the author finds that when spin - parallel Cooper pairs are formed, both the amplitude of Andreev reflection and the formation of zero - energy states are suppressed, which is due to the destruction of retro - reflectivity in the Andreev reflection process. 2. **s - wave superconductor/ferromagnet/p - wave superconductor (s/F/p) junction**: - When the two superconductors have different symmetries (such as s - wave and p - wave), the Josephson current is enhanced as the exchange interaction increases. - This enhancement is due to the restoration of the first - order Josephson coupling caused by the destruction of SU(2) symmetry in spin space. The paper analyzes in detail the changes of the Josephson current under different conditions by establishing a Josephson current formula applicable to any symmetry. In particular, the author also considers the influence of temperature on the strength of the exchange interaction and predicts that in some cases, the Josephson junction may change from a 0 - junction to a π - junction, and this transformation may be observed in experiments. In conclusion, through theoretical analysis, this paper reveals the role of ferromagnets in Josephson junctions of unconventional superconductors, providing an important theoretical basis for understanding these complex systems.
